So I was thinking of buying this capacitive stylus: http://www.amazon.com/Acase-Capacit...aybook/dp/B003ULE6GU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
But I was wondering if there are any decent note taking apps designed for use with a pen. Because if there aren't, it's kind of pointless, I don't think there's really anything else I would use the stylus for, except maybe drawing.
Thanks!
I'm not sure of a good app, but I do own this stylus. Once I get my Transformer tomorrow, I will let you know how well it works.
Not sure to what extent you plan to use notes, but I use "Note Everything Pro" and absolutely love it!

Handwritten notes
If you're talking about handwritten notes, some people from the xoom forum suggested handrite, check it out and tell me if it works with the transformer. There is a free version with ads. Also many users suggest get rid of the auto insert feature through the settings for the app and it becomes much more usable.
Amazon 1-click Order is dangerously easy. Just ordered it. I'll play around with the note taking apps and let you know what I find. Tablet's coming tomorrow, stylus should arrive on Tuesday.
I'm using flext9 it can be used as swipe which works faster than the one installed on the transformer and it also has a writing to text feature that's pretty cool.I take my notes on evernote which also has a share button to email/ share it to a computer. You can also create an account and sync your documents up to access anywhere.
I can't believe this, from the time since the beginning of Android to now, NO ONE has created a combinable Text & Handwriting note program.
Where is the app that lets you draw and type within the same note? This was possible in Windows Mobile, 10 years ago!!!
All the programs available seem to at best be able create drawing notes separately from typing note, WTF?

Hey dummy, read the post above yours.
I can confirm this. FlexT9 works great on the Transformer. It does an AWESOME-fast Swype style. Then it also has a handwriting-recognition mode that allows you to write within any app.
Screw note-taking apps, when you have a keyboard like this you don't need them.
The post above mine previous (#6) mentions two things:
FlexT9: an input method, not a program that supports scribble drawing & text notes
EverNote: an notes program, without any scribble drawing support
Care to enlighten me with your wisdom again?
+1 for flexT9, it is now my keyboard of choice too, much quicker than handwriting or typing in my opinion.
There is another note taking app called Tabnotes, currently under development. It looks very promising and could potentially be the killer notepad app. Works really well with handwriting with a stylus.
A trial is available on the market for you to try out, the program has been developed with tablets in mind.
At present you cannot use keypad entry, I have emailed the developer of the app for this function, we'll see what happens.
i am using writepad with Evernote and it works flawlessly. I was nervous because the writepad application cost $10. But if you go to the developers site you can test it free for24 hours.

Do you know if this will sync with multiple devices?
Edit - I found out it currently does not sync with multiple devices.
I've been waiting for 3.1, hoping that the "enhanced multitasking" would help with apps like Quickoffice and Polaris Office saving edits. Basically, it seems that if you are editing a document in either app and open/use other apps without saving each and every time you're ready to open another app, you run the real risk of losing those edits.
I've been running some tests with 3.1 on my TF, and it doesn't seem to matter where the app is in the recent apps list (meaning, whether it was the last app or the 10th app ago), more often than not edits (changed/added text) are simply lost. Sometimes a doc is returned completely empty, even if it was saved (but opening the saved doc does return to the last saved point).
This is really, really frustrating and a real weakness of the platform if there's no workaround. Perhaps both developers need to change their app to work better in this regard, but this is the first time since switching to Android that I've missed webOS. Such things just don't happen with webOS...

This is a big problem.
I am trying to find a good note taking app to go along with my GT-P6210, and I came across the Supernote app on the Asus Transformer. I have heard some great things about it, but I can't find it in the app market. Does anyone know if its compatible with the Tab 7 plus?
Also, if you know of any good note taking apps for a college environment, feel free to suggest. I am looking to be able to make bullets and sub bullets (something evernote cant do) and I would like to be able to write or draw directly into my notes with a stylus.
Evernote w/ skitch allows me to write/draw, but the downfall is that it groups all my drawings seperate from my notes.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Supernote is specific to that tablet but there is an extracted apk though it's not optimized for our tab. Search the forums for it.
You can try quill.

I looked up quill and I may be wrong, but it looks like you can only write. But I found a Supernote apk so ill try that out and let you guys know how it is.
It's working, but not fit to screen... deleted.
Supernote is such a good app...........but it doesn't fit the screen. The sidebar gets cut off so you can't use certain features. It would be amazing if it was optimized for our size tablets
I like Supernote so much I've adapted to using it on the GTP with parts of the app being off screen. I'm hoping that if Asus ever releases the Memo 7" tablet to market there will be a version of Supernote for it. They've teased it at the 2011 & 2012 CES.
alternative to supernote
The app that I use more is Catch Notes, cause it lets me syncro with my phone, but it is not on the same league.
Give GNotes a try. I just recently discover it. It has bullets, you can type, handwrite, attach a picture, a video or some sound.
But actually, I was so busy trying to find a good app, that I didn't realize how good the stock application included in the tablet is. I'm taking about the one that can be found in the bottom bar. You can attach pictures, you can synchronize (haven't try yet), you can write anyplace in the sheet, handwrite (better than GNotes) and it floats on top of the other windows, allowing you to take notes while you are reading an article, for example.

I totally agree with you. The stock app is totally good! It even syncs well with Google docs.

I am a software developer, and have been creating Android apps for businesses since 2008. Up until recently all of the apps I have created have been for businesses to serve specific needs.
When I recently bought my TF300T I quickly wanted to start leaving the laptop home, but there are just a few things left I still cannot do on Android.
So my question to you is, what would you like to be able to do in Android that you cannot yet do?
I'd like to see a word processor that supports features such as: multiple columns, page numbering, a ruler, fonts, spacing, margins, multiple paper sizes, printing directly to a wireless or shared printer etc.
Some of these features are available for various Office suite word processors, but I have yet to find one that supports them all. It's getting better, but we're not there yet.
A robust office suite, really, is the only thing that's missing for me.
Google bought quickoffice, so I hope to see a Drive/office hybrid. MS is also working on office for android tablets afaik.
So office apps might not be the best choice as a software dev.
Has someone made a nice music player app that takes advantage of the tablet screen? Basically multiple frames so you can see what's playing (with basic controls) on one side of the screen, and be able scroll through your playlist or music directory on the other side of the screen.
Something like that with pop up windows (or frames) for additional features (like an Equalizer) would be pretty nice.
Actually not sure if the TF300 has a good music player, as I haven't received mine yet, but on my other tablet, everything I've found seems to be made for phones, and I hate having to cycle through different screens just to browse the playlist
I really want an app that synchronises handwritten note taking with audio, like the echo smartpen does. Then I could use it in meetings really effectively.
I think there is an ipad app that does this (grr...) but nothing for Android

Google Play Music, which comes on the tablet, is tablet-optimized. The tablet also comes with MusicFX, which is an equalizer, and it integrates with Play Music.

I'd hardly call Google Music tablet optimized, it scales well but doesnt use space very efficiently.
This is the only one I know of, but its really ugly
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...jects.musicplayerforpad&feature=search_result
But yeah, I'd also like to see a better office editor. Quickoffice is a little too light on features to be taken seriously for more than minor edits.
The docks USB port does not recognize my camera and I do not like the way the tablet just puts your pictures in one big conglomeration. I would like a tablet that recognizes any digital camera and places your photos into files by date like a PC does. I use the tablet for work and I have to upload photos to my reports and then send the reports to my office. I have been able to type reports but it takes so many steps to get pictures from my camera into the tablet and then load them onto my reports that I am not able to do my reports quickly unless I am at home at my compute doing them.
I would love to get my hands on an Android clone of the airsketch app another teacher in my building has for his ipad.

Biggest problem with Android apps right now is they aren't optimized for tablets. Most of the apps are designed for phones.
Yeah, but that should change as tablets get cheaper and more popular.
I would like at least a word processor (if not a whole office suite) That;
1: Had all but the most advanced of a PC's word processors features such as full formatting, the ability to add fonts, full text options; the whole nine yards.
2: It having a nice ICS tablet layout. Not a clunky phone UI that has the features but not the layout to be of any use.
3: Full usb (or our dock) and bluetooth keyboard support with hotkeys and shortcuts (ie: Ctrl+V for paste etc etc...)
4: A supportive dev who would listen to community input and have a way to contact them easily where the other members of the community could also see the discussion (ie: a forums).
If you actually intend to do this (I REALLLLLLLY hope you do, its sorely needed) then I myself will plan on donating to the projects development as it goes along.

Right now I am putting the finishing touches on a project I hope to release this coming week sometime. It will be a tool specifically for Tablets and geared towards software developers mostly.
I am responding to you because the app I am about to release does support all of the typical hotkeys like Ctrl-V etc.
The biggest problem with creating an office suite for tablets is supporting all of the various file types that are out there (Office 2000/2003/2007 etc.) If it was just a matter of supporting one file type, and having the ability to import/convert from/to the other file types than it would be much easier. The problem is that would add an extra step for users to deal with.
I also think that Google will be releasing a very nice Office Suite for Android very soon. I think with the push for Chrome OS, and the already stated fact that Google plans to merge Chrome OS into Android points to that even more.

some apps require sd card to work (like this one or this one), because they put the data on sd card, so i want an app that have the abiltiy to use the internal memory as an "virtual sd card",
i know sd cards are not expensive, but i just feel like it's not necessary to use a sd card while there's still a lot of space on my device (like this one has 32 GB) and sometimes you forget your sd card or because of whatever reason you don't want to use your sd card.
so an app like that would be very useful (at least for me, i really need it )
i'd also like to see the list of apps you've created
I would like a virtual server running.
I have a particular need and idea to get some of my phone apps working on the tablet.
My idea is to create a virtual space something like Stick It! or Super Video, those app allow you to open a window and play your videos inside a hovering and movable window.
I took a measurement, and since owning an Asus TF300T with the keyboard dock, my tablet is mostly in landscape mode .
In landscape mode I can fit 3 windows of virtual space (or however you want to call it technically) of my phone in portrait mode.
So the apps on my phone where the developer is; for whatever reason, not interested in making those apps tablet ready, I can run those apps and see them the way they would look on the phone.
Because of the space that I measured, I can run 3 portrait phone apps at once. And just tap to switch between windows.
Does this sound like something that would benefit users?
Thanks

There's a few apps I can think of off the top of my head. A gallery, a calculator & an app that brings all your social feeds together.
For the gallery, I'd like something similar to the stock gallery app except with the option to view it in list or folder view or something similar. Sorting options like sort by name, type etc and the ability to flick through them in that order would be good too.
For the calculator, heaps of buttons on the screen would be nice, and maybe they could be scrollable to reveal more buttons. Right now most calculators are just simple calculators with giant buttons lol. I'd really appreciate a scientific or graphic calculator on Android.
I'm also yet to find a decent tablet app that brings all your social feeds together. Something like the desktop Tweetdeck where you can have multiple panes would be great plus the ability to view profiles, messages, notifications etc.
I'd be willing to pay for any of these as long as their recently priced. (Not gonna pay $20 for a gallery lol)
If any of these are already on the market a reply or link would be appreciated lol, maybe I'm not digging hard enough.

Sorry for double post but I'd love something like this. Like multitasking with 3 vertical apps running in phone mode would be beautiful. Maybe not a virtual server (do you mean online?), but just running an app in a phone version rather than tablet. That way we could have apps like Launcher 7 etc run on tabs. Or maybe have 2/3 of the screen having a browser and the other 1/3 of space occupying a phone app. Great idea man.
It would seem pretty hard to code or implement though.

I am looking at the Note 10.1 for purchase and I am trying to get information about handwriting recognition using the S Pen and saving what has been written to a .txt document or RTF doc or doc file. Searching for this answer on this forum and others has not helped - at least I have not found the answer. What I want to be sure that I can do is handwrite a document - for example an article for publication - and save the handwriting recognition text version and be able to use it then on a PC in software like Word or Notepad. Can this be done using the included Polaris Office app? What I have seen so far about the S Notes app is that it only saves to pdf or jpg files. Is that true?
Then somewhere I saw that files cannot be attached to emails sent from the Note 10.1 - is this true? If I installed an app like K9 Email on the Note 10.1 which has file attachment capabilities on other Android devices will I be able to attach the text files from the Note 10.1 that I have written using handwriting recognition (if txt files are possible using handwriting recognition)?
I am not interested (at least now) in annotating documents - I need to be able to create new text documents with the S Pen and be able to save and edit them as text both on the Note and then on a PC.
Thanks!
Hi 1776,
You can write straight into Polaris Office (or any other office app, google docs etc) using the handwriting recognition keyboard option and save into whatever format those apps support.
I've become an S Pen junkie over the last month for taking notes and docs for my work. A Note 10.1 a month ago, and a Note 2 phone (for easy noting on the move) this week.
I find the S Pen option ( Language and input | Samsung Keyboard Settings | Handwriting | Recognition type | Complete recognition) best for this (as opposed to 'Stroke recognition' option)
Good luck with it!
You can also save the files to a cloud service and retrieve them anywhere using this...
For that matter, you can even move your PCs My Documents folder to Dropbox, and use Dropsync on your tablet to do a completely automatic 2-way sync so that you can edit the files from the PC or at tablet at any time

Thanks to all! I knew I would get a fast response from this forum to answer my question. I now know from you that I can use the SPen to write into Polaris or an office suite or Google Docs and get my articles ready. There is a good price right now at Costco and I am going to take advantage of it.
Thanks again!
Sorry to bring this back up again - I went to Best Buy today and wanted to try the S Pen with Polaris Office. I opened Polaris Office and looked for the gear symbol to start handwriting recognition at the bottom of the keyboard next to the microphone symbol for voice recognition. It was not there. Only the microphone was there. I went into S Pen settings on the Note 10.1 and did not see much to set. A salesman came over and asked him how to get this display model to let me use the S Pen in Polaris Office and he said it cannot do that. He insisted the pen only works in S Note. I told him differently, explained what I expected to find and all of the more knowledgeable people than him (I did not say that part) that are on this forum say it works with Polaris and other apps. He tried and found nothing to get it to work.
So now I have a new question - does this now work with an update that perhaps their display did not have? He also tried it on the Note 8 that was on diplay and said it did not work.
You all say it works and I am sure it does. I would just like to see it do it before I plunk down almost 500 bucks.
What is needed to do to make it work? And if there was an update and the displays were not updated - would it then not work?
TIA!!!
Long press on the microphone button on the keyboard gives you a selection box. One of the choices switches the keyboard to pen entry.

FYI I found the default pen settings to be less than optimal for my writing style. Keep this in mind while trying it out. You'll likely customize it to your liking once you own it.

Thanks once again. I went to a different Best Buy today and did as was described here and long pressed the mike key - and there was the button to start handwriting recognition. I worked fairly well. Thank you to bsaman who warned me about having to customize the settings to get it to write smoothly. In the store, words were split, wrong letters were put in, but I can see that with some adjustment it will work just fine and I test saved a doc handwritten in Polaris and saw in the file manager that it was saved as a .doc file which is what I need it to do.
One other question - every time my hand leaned on the glass when writing with the pen in the input box that was across the lower half of the screen, it brought up a new screen scrolling up from the bottom. I assume that this can be turned off?
The only thing I can think of is the Multi-window option bar that pops up when you touch the carret in the navbar. Don't know about disabling it though.
