well ive owned the g1 ever since it first came out. but im tired of roms slowing down on me after a few days. At the moment i dont have too much money to play with though. whats a good phone you guys would recommend that i can buy cheap like off craigslist or ebay etc. that would give me good performance in terms of speed and is being worked on?
like i hear the roms for N1 that the speed is never a problem only stability. and that is freakin sweet, but i dont have the money for that yet.
what's your range for cheap android phones? Samsung Galaxy Spica sounds quite good after rooted.

for verizon, there is the lg ally. $50 with a contract and its about the same hardware as the motorola droid.
for t mobile there's not too much that I could find

Saw the Ally at best buy for 29.99
spica is a bit sluggish even on 2.1. dont let the 800mhz chip fool you into thinking that its fast. moved to a nexus one after a few weeks with the spica.
havnt tried the lower end HTC ones but id go for those. the legend looks like the best if you could get that.
damn well after some searching around it seems like i might aswell try and get a nexus one, it's not too big of a difference. Im tired of waiting around for a good phone to come to tmobile.
Hey guys I know this is off topic but im a new tmobile customer and I now have the samsung 4g. My question is I only had this phone for 2 weeks. There is a special to get T~Mobile G2 google phone free. Would anyone here help me decide either keep the Samsung or get the G2 google phone from T~Mobile.
Thanks in advance

Brother its all in what u want. I would recommended checking the specs for both at http://www.phonearena.com/phones and also this sgs4g is pretty amazing with the tweaks and mods I have already it is buttery smooth and the screen is brilliant. But like I said check the specs and figure which one fits you better.

THE GODS ENVY US!!!!!!!!!
Well the G2 has more roms but the SGS4G is more powerful and will probably start getting roms soon so i would recomend keeping it if you have a some patience

If you want a mans phone get the samsung. It seems built more for adults. The G2 reminds me of a teens phone. Just my opinion of course. GREAT roms for the phone already though. But we will be getting some good stuff here soon.
Thanks guys im keeping my Samsung the G2 is a nice phone. But I love my samsung front facing camera I do like video chatting with my girl. Plus getting a little show every now and then since both are going to different colleges. I do like the ginger bread rom on my samsung.

I love my phone and all but in all honesty, return the phone and get the htc sensation or lg g2x. Much much better phones at the same price that are also a little more future proof than this phone.

Same price? I got my SGS4G on flex pay for 50$.
EDIT: Once CM7 comes to our phones it will be future proof. Hell the G1 has 2.2.1 on it thanks to CM.

Hell I have gingerbread running smooth on my old g1that I still play with thanks to COS-DS. Runs good on the g1 actually...check the g1 dev forum if you still have one of those phones.
And yeah the g2 is a nice phone for its form factor. If you like a physical keyboard it has a really nice one. But the with g2x be careful. There are reports of alot of hardware problems, screen problems and other issues. Read up on the g2x before jumping in to that one.

2.3 on the G1? Wow. Didn't think people used it actually still. My friend has 2.3.4 for his Cliq.
I am considering trading my evo for a nexus s 4g and would like to know if the issues with the radio are as bad as people are making them out to be, would love to hear some input. The nexus s seems like a great phone but i would hate to get a phone that had terrible speeds.

Radio fix is rolling out today, i just traded my Evo for the NS4G and I couldnt be happier. Make the trade, youll be glad you did. (I am and I am a HUGE sense fan).
Hey man I own a nexus s 4g and a evo 4g and, nexus s 4g is a lot much better phone, I hardly use the evo, I haven't had any problem with the nexus the 3d graphics are incredible, quadrant score is over 4000, get the nexus

just traded my Evo for a NS4G....like it so far, miss some of the sense aspects though...i have spent most of my time trying to find widgets and apps that do the same things as sense...still think it is pretty crappy that there is no facebook sync...getting used to it though...
my biggest complaint is that i find it hard to txt on this phone compared to my Evo...the lil keys seem to throw me off...have tryd various keyboards but nothing to replicate my Evo, BTW, was using GB keyboard on my Evo...
just applied the new update so will see if this solves the issue of radios..
overall i love this phone...traded my Evo because i was bored with it...lol have done everything i could do with it and didnt want to use my upgrade yet, not impressed with the evo3D or the photon, maybe gonna wait for the SGII...or maybe this phone will take me into the winter and christmas phones...who knows...impressed so far though...
Thanks for the input guys, lemme know how the update goes I'd love to see the radio issues solved

New nexus devices will be out soon. So I know u guys are gonna probably blow me off as taking a wild guess but believe me, I would of never guessed this lol.
So first, the new nexus built by Samsung again. I read last night on android central and they're guessing but its true.
Now the weird part.
A nexus tablet released around the same time built by LG.
I'm a little bummed HTC isn't in there too but wait..
There is a third phone, possibly LG possibly someone else. All wearing the nexus badge.
Having one kinda makes it special. Add a tablet and that's kinda cool too. Add another phone and now its losing some appeal.
Obviously ill own at least one of them right away, but anyone else think that's weird?

Also, dont worry , there is absolutely no way.. ever.. I am going to 'blow you off '

what no HTC Nexus!?!?!?!
Come on Google if you arent giving it to HTC you are so dropping the BALL!
HTC already got the Nexus 1
it's up to the lowest/highest bidder for the next Nexus 3
Google-Motorola
In the future will be Motorola Nexus ...
Hmmm.. seems I shouldve known that writing "blow me off" would get that kinda response LOL.. if all it took was to be a nice guy id be spending less time on here and more time , as my Russian friend puts it, " getting mouth release" lol..
Anyways, ya one of the Samsung reps I deal with thru work filled me in on the nexus phone and about LG making the nexus tab.
I don't know about u guys but i don't remember ever owning an LG I liked..
I played with the optimus 3d and it seemed pretty decent but still love my nexus s and EVO 3d a lot more.
Let's hope the nexus tab is gonna look and feel nice.
As for the mystery nexus phone, I'm supposed to get a look at some pics of the nexus prime and nexus tab next week.. hope the third one is in there too. And no I won't get to see ice cream sandwich lol.. the pics aren't of the devices on.. I wish ;P

This thread is fun. My hope is that Verizon finally gets a friggin Nexus. My Dinc rules but man I want a pure google phone.
Since I owned a HTC Hero and a Google Nexus One I wanted something new. So I changed to a Windows phone. The LG Optimus 7 is a great phone, really easy in use, great build quality,... I just have 1 problem, I miss Android to much So, because the Nexus S is so low in price I was wondering if it's still a good choice? I know the hardware is a bit outdated, but it seems that it's still is a great phone with a lot of ROM developement.
What do you guys think?

Wait for the nexus prime imho
Sent from my Nexus S 4G powered by Matr1x/CO2 using Tapatalk
Ow, forgot to tell about that. I don't like phones with such big screens. The nexus S has imo perfect screensize. If the Nexus prime had smaller screensize I would have waited.
And the low price of the Nexus S is nice too.
Then why wait?
Because I wanted to hear some other opinions
Is it still worth it? If you look at the price imo then yes.
I just sold my evo 3d and got a nexus. IMO the nexus is a better device. I don't even want to root it, yet.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I am also concerned about the size of the new Nexus ... time will tell. In the meantime I swapped my Evo for an NS4g. With Oxygen and Franco's latest kernel ... I could be happy with this phone for a long time.

I have an LG Optimus 7 and switched to the Nexus S. Mainly for the same reasons you are looking at. I think the LG is a fantastic phone, but I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with WP7 and wanted to get back to Android. I chose not to wait for the Prime for the same reason as you. I don't like the big screen. The 4.0" on the Nexus S is perfect for me. Its specs aren't that far behind. Here in North America there aren't a lot of phones with front facing camera, which the Nexux S has. It has NFC which I think is going to take off this year. It is going to get an official ICS upgrade if you don't want to root to get it.
The flexibility of Android is fantastic compared to the locked down Windows Phone....I'm so glad to be back with Android, and the Nexus S.
Dave
well sinc the galaxy nexus doesnt have a bezel it doesnt make the phone that much larger
Ok thx guys
I think I will put my Optimus 7 for sale then and go for the Nexus S.
I'd get it still... I have a nexus a 4g and had an epic 4g before that...stock Android has so much going for it that I could only recommend another stock phone like the prime... But as you said, it's not what you are looking for right now.
The build quality on the nexus a is great and it feels like a very solid phone. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone looking at Android in general. Much better than the other non nexus phones I've used

I luv reading these types of threads. Reminds me how great these phones are
I just picked up a Nexus S today and for the few hours I have played with it I am loving it. I don't like big phones either and was a little intimidated by the size but I think it is perfect for me even with tiny hands.
There were no surprises for me either, it is the pure android experience and so easy to use. I recommend the Nexus S to most Android users and would recommend the Galaxy Nexus to those who want the bigger screen.
