[Q] removing .apks - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

hey all,
i know just enough to get into trouble so i need some guidance before i proceed...been reading all day, but i'm still confused.....i was able to root my EVO through the command line, but this time i said screw it and used one click root for my sidekick....no problems there, but how do i remove .apks from the sidekick? i see the superuser icon in my apps and i tried to uninstall some stupid bloatware, but the button was grayed out....do i have to do this through the command line? thank you!

Download Titanium Backup from the market. You can remove bloatware that way.

How to rename/remove apps using only the phone

I want to rename the extensions or remove some of the apps in my droid 2 like the Amazon app. I have just rooted the device and installed Epic Unleashed 2.5. What free application(s) allow me to do this? I have seen many threads about removing useless apps via the computer, but I don't want to do this. The lines of code seem intimidating to me . If you can give me a step by step guide and a list of some crappy applications that I can remove I would appreciate it.
-igis
I just rooted this morning (first time), then used root explorer from the Marketplace to go into the system/apps folder and add ".bak" to the end of the APK and ODEX files that I wanted gone via the "rename" function. I think root explorer was like $3 or something is all...

Ok, but do you know any applications that do this AND are free?

None so far all the Root explorers cost something. That's why I stick to my computer because I already paid for it.
It really isn't too difficult and once you develop an understanding of what you are doing you will gain the ability to troubleshoot on your own and create your own fixes or help others with rooting, or exploring new devices that come out.

I just rooted my Droid2 (first timer) and yes you can change the file extensions manually to get rid of them. If you're rooted, you can use Terminal Emulator (free from Market). It's reversible. I just followed these directions: limitlessdroid.com/2010/08/28/rooting-101-bloatware/
Not messing around with it too much.. I only removed Blockbuster.apk.

U can also use titanium backup to remove stock apps. The free version allows u to remove any app providing that u are fully rooted.

[Q] Bloatware removal question

In the past, I've always used Titanium Backup to remove bloatware from my phones. With the new temproot released, it looks like Titanium will have issues until a more permanent solution is devised. Is simply deleting the folders via a root explorer a safe/thorough method of removing these annoyances?
good question...
No. Look in the developmen section, there's a thread on how to use pm disable command.

As far as I know, Titanium backup MAY work in freezing app but thats about it. I've disabled everything from ADB in SDK. If you need a guide on how to do this either look in the xda general forum or pm me. I'll tell you know when setting up the SDK you must download HTC sync to get the correct drivers on your computer. Also I would not delete any folders completely. It may lead to problems but my assumptions is that you won't even be able to delete the folder completely.
That being said I have a question of my own:
Is it safe to disable htc sense launcher and just keep launcher pro as your default? Since I use launcher pro that is lol.
Is there any way to remove these freaking apps?! I'm not using Twitter, Facebook and all that crap. How can I get rid of this? Not necessarily using that Titanium thingy.

If you already did the fre3vo temp root method, you can follow the instructions in this thread to disable the apps you dont want http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150805
How would I do that rooting? Or more importantly: Will I get into trouble if I do it? Any disadvantage?
Look in the development section, both topics are explained and discussed there.

[Q] How to remove bloatware on unrooted inspire

Hey. I did a search and didn't find an answer to this question. I just got my Inspire last week and am still working up the courage to root it since it is my only phone, and I don't want to brick it.
So in the meantime, how do I uninstall apps that I don't want/ need that are on the phone? Things like blockbuster and friendstream, and stocks? The phone wont let you uninstall them in application manager, and I tried creating a folder to move them out of the /system/app folder so they wouldn't run on restart, but it won't let you move them either. And, of course, since it isn't rooted yet, Titanium backup won't work either.
Is there a way to get rid of these apps that I don't want that are stock on the phone?
Thanks!

Thats why we root, my friend. Grab the hack kit and jump in. There are stock Roms that are rooted and already have the bloat removed. And then you can try some other Roms... lots of good stuff out there.

Help using Rooted Amaze

Okay, so I have gone through Hansoon2000 (ty btw) All in One kit for T-Mobile Amaze and did steps 1 - 5 and then flashed a recovery, but I don't know where to go now. I would like to start deleting stock apps that I don't want and are taking up space. Can someone give me a few tips on what to do next? I am assuming I need to be in SU mode or something like that.
Thanks.

If you have Superuser installed, go ahead and download Titanium Backup. Whenever you enter a root app, a SU prompt will appear asking if you want to grant Superuser Permissions.
Its not really SU mode, apps just want the ability to do Super things.
Titanium Backup will allow you to uninstall apps, but when deleting system apps you have to be careful not to do something stupid, like uninstall the settings app. Titanium backup actually does a lot more, you can backup/restore apps and their data, freeze apps (pro only), and more backing up. Its the one app you absolutely need on a rooted device.

I think you may be looking for something like this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759 it's made by an awesome dev and is stock sans bloat and very tweakable.

[Q] simple root question

How can I root my HTC one m8 but still have it be the same as when I bought it. For example, I still want to receive updates and I want everything to work the same but I'll be rooted . Basically I just want to remove the bloatware and install cool roms. I don't want anything else to change. Is this possible?
I like everything about this phone so I dont want to change anything
You can't really root and still accept otas. Verizon is without a doubt after the root methods so an OTA will probably break root. You also won't be accepting OTAs when you're on a custom ROM. You can either just root with weak sauce or s off and unlock with fire water.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
you can most def root (very easy Process) and remove the bloatware and keep everything else stock. while you cant update ota, just keep checking on here, somebody will post an updated bloatfree rom that runs as close to stock as possible. The best of both worlds my friend.

You can do what I did...First I downloaded WeakSauce.apk directly to my phone, then downloaded SuperSU from the play store. Then I downloaded Titanium Backup and used it deleted the bloatware off of my phone..very easy.

If you are rooted but haven't changed the contents of \system in any way (i.e. NOT gotten rid of any apps), AND aren't running a custom recovery, the OTA's should take. The OTA's appear to look at the system directory to see if there are any modifications and fail the OTA flash if there are. So, if you are essentially stock everything except for root access, you should be okay.
That having been said, I didn't see anyone post about a successful OTA update after rooting; and most folks once they're rooted just can't help get a custom recovery (how else can you Nandroid?) or make the slightest tweak(s) to the system.
As someone said above, usually when there's an OTA, the devs have put it out as a flashable mod within 24 hours; and as someone ELSE said above, best NOT to take the OTA's because they are notorious for breaking root.
Yeah, OTA's are a nice touch, and that's how I run my Nexus 7, but on my phone they're a pain in the neck --- I want things my way, and I'm not willing to give that up.

Your current setup does not permit writing to the \system partition. That's fine. (And that's especially good if you really are determined to take OTA updates and keep it pure stock but rooted.) To "get rid" of the bloatware, or any other system app you don't want to see you can do two things: (1) hide the app in the app drawer (that's done from the menu in the app drawer). And (2) Using app manager from settings, navigate to "all" apps, work your way down the list of apps and each one you want to disable: (a) turn off notifications; and then (b) press "disable." I think one or two just can't be disabled, e.g. Visual Voice Mail, but for the most part, you'll be able to make the bloat seem to "disappear" and you won't have affected your system partition, plus, they'll still be gone when you reboot.
