Help with Evo setup/issues with cm7 (evervolv atm) - General Questions and Answers

Hey Everyone,
This is probably my first or second post here ever. I have just recently really gotten into trying different roms and flashing my phone. I can generally find my answer in posts already around but am having issues that I cannot find answers to.
1. I have a voice mail icon that will not go away. I have flashed Evio sense based Rom and Evervolv cm7 based rom and it will show up with both. I called Sprint and had them try to clear some stuff out (it was fun trying to keep them from figuring out I wasn't in sense anymore ) which has actually lead me to not have any data connection except for 4g. I am doing a recovery of an old sense rom that I have a nandroid of to check and see if a profile update will fix this issue though. My main concern is the voice mail icon. I do not use google voice and have my inbox completely empty. I also have called myself and left a message and gone in and dialed in and checked it and it still is there. Am I going to need to do a full reinstall from scratch to avoid having this? My guess is it could somehow be saved in my TI backup that I have and showing up after I restore the data. Is this possible?
2. I really do not like the interface for the phone in cm7. I know I can get Go Contacts or Dialer One to replace the contact search and the initial plug in of the number but once I call it switches to the same in phone interface and this is the interface that I really want to change. It seems like every thread that I have found just suggest changing to Dialer One or another app like this but does not change the actual in phone look. It also seems really unresponsive sometimes taking up to 5 or 10 seconds to end a call and leaving me standing there poking the end call button over and over until it responds. Does anyone else have this issue?
3. The final issue I am having is with MMS and from what I have read it seems to be an issue with cm7 in general. Is there any workaround for this? The other parts I feel like there is probably something that I am just missing and can deal with but if I cannot get MMS working then its probably going to be a deal breaker for cm7 until it is fixed.
In closing I would like to thank the community here. There is a lot of hard work and dedication to helping others that goes on and I really appreciated any help that you can give me! I know my questions are wordy and long but I wanted to explain what I have done to try to fix these issues on my own before coming here to you all. Thanks again!

I have the voicemail icon issue as well. I have had it with other roms. When I loaded up this time, the first thing I did was set up Google Voice and I didn't have the issue. All of the sudden, a couple of hours later, the ROM forgot I was using Google Voice and then what do you know...the beloved voicemail icon shows up. I have seen several "solutions" for this, but none of them work. Why isn't there a setting to clear the icon or an app that will do it?...or is there?...or maybe a command in Terminal Emulator.
I am using TAKEphONE as my dialer as I have had success with it. As far as I know you can't change the actual phone app. Sense is just a skin on top of the phone app as far as I can tell because when you have Google Voice ask you if you want to use Voice or Sprint, you can see the stock Android phone app for a few seconds.
I do not have any experience today with MMS so I am not sure about that.

The issue with the VM icon is still seeming to haunt me however I flashed Ginger-Ale and if you go settings>call>voice mail icon reset you can get rid of it. I am however unsure if this will be a permanent fix or if it will work after another flash but I will know in about 15 min once I flash the new one by Deck.
I also found that if I went into titanium backup and froze phone.apk (I did this to see if by chance I could get Dialer One to not use the regular CM7 in call phone interface that it removed the Voice Main icon but also caused the phone to repeatedly FC. I ended up having to flash to a nandroid backup which of course brought back the VM icon but it at least let me know where the issue was coming from.

Completely not an answer, but just so you know...
Any time you call Sprint and they do any communication with your phone, they pull the phone's info - rom version, radio, kernel, etc. This information helps them troubleshoot the problems you're having. Usually this will tell them which official release you have on your phone - if you've updated via OTA, etc. So they may not have known that what you're running isn't Sense, but they do know it's a custom rom and that you're rooted. Whether or not the person you were talking to pulled this information, took note of it on your account, or even cares, is something no one can answer. But it is a possibility.
So if you're ever having software issues and you take it in to Sprint (even if you've unrooted) and they refuse to fix it - you'll know why. Of course, you'd have to get a combination of asshole Sprint employees to have issues, but it is a possibility.
I've heard of the tech mentioning the custom rom to some people, so you know that even if they don't say anything, they know.

Most annoying thing about Android - All SMS Messages Randomly Deleted

Whether I'm running Handcent, chomp, or the standard app, at some point (it seems while refreshing/fetching SMS) my messages disappear, nowhere to be found. This has happened twice this month. I have "auto delete old messages" disabled and CM 6 installed. What is causing this?? I have people's numbers in here that I need and it takes 20 minutes to restore messages (those messages aren't even remotely new). Maybe it's a CM issue but I feel like this has happened before on stock 2.2 but I don't quite remember. Regardless I'd like to know what's causing this and XDA is my best bet. I've seen postings all over in Google results about this issue. I'm running a Nexus one with a newly flashed radio on FRF91 build.
If it's Google's code issue then I'd like to see Cyanogen or the CM team patch this; that would be awesome.
i've had this happen to me too! I could remember this happening to me even on 2.1 on my droid. it annoyed me quite a bit. i've never come across the answer or anyone else who has had the same problem. so you'd be my first.
I hope someone else has the answer
no such problem with mine!

Issues with phone menus & voicemail in CGM10

Since I'm apparently not allowed to post this kind of question in the CGM thread due to being a new user, here it goes.
CGM10, Verizon GS3. Latest nightly (although I've had this problem with every CGM since I switched over on the 26th.
If I call any number that has a phone menu, such as voicemail, or anything else that has a "press x to go to xxxxxxxx", it does not recognize that I'm putting in numbers. This means I can't delete voicemail, I can't navigate through other phone systems, etc.
Anyone have this issue, and more importantly, anyone have a fix?
I've tried other dialers such as Dialer One and ExDialer, but they only seem to serve as front-ends for dialing. Once I'm in the call it reverts to the broken JB/CGM one.
By "CGM10" do you mean "CM10" as in "CyanogenMod 10"?
I use the Official CyanogenMod Nightlies (right now I am on 9-02), and I tried using my voicemail. It worked fine when dialing stuff while in a call.
bon courage !

Voyage Vietnam-Jonque Ginger Halong-Jonque Cai Be Princess
Yeah, CGM10/CM10. I've seen it listed both ways.
After doing about 4 or 5 factory resets, I've found that it starts happening after I go in to change my voicemail to include my password. But, even when I remove the , the phone functionality remains broken, and requires I reformat the phone to fix it.
Looks like I get to refromat the phone again. Wheeeee. I've wasted almost 5 or 6 hours fighting this stupid thing...but at least this time I know what not to do, but that's going to be a pain in the ass, and I'd like to know why it's happening and get it fixed, as I'm not a fan of losing functionality.

JB and sense4+ bugs

So i wanted to see if im the only one who get some of the bugs below:
1) keyboard(any keyboard) falling animation stops in the middle and disappear instead of going all the way down whic is kind of ugly and make it looks like lagging.
2) and the more crucial is this(photo attached) - contacts names in people section randomly getting blank and the only way to know which contact it is, is to enter the contacts edit and see the name there.
couldn't be more annoying!
any other bugs we should know?
just noticed there is a bug thread already. please move this to there, sorry.

Em ya wow to that bug. If you have TWRP or CWM try wiping cache and dalvik.
all stock never touched anything.
Since I updated to Jelly Bean I experience very bad reception. Almost all the time "ermerncy calls only". Factory reset doesn't work. Looking at costom roms atm...
I've got a stupid bug (on stock) when you click power off and the screens black u click power button it shows lock screen then powers of again have to do soft reset to make it boot properly again

Which rom are you on?
Maps broken
I have a HTC One S locked to Orange/T-Mobile/EE network which is stock ROM, haven't had the need to mess around with it just yet. It received the OTA update to JellyBean 4.1 on Christmas Day, which installed fine without any problems.
Now I find that regardless of what I do, the maps and navigation crashes within a couple of minutes of use. This part is annoying since it seems to work and then anywhere between 1 minute and 5 minutes it simply stops with a force close message. I did a factory reset to see if this would clear the problem, but it hasn't.
The details of my phone are:
Android Version 4.1.1
HTC Sense Version 4+
Software Number 3.16.401.8
HTC SDK API Level 4.63
Kernel Version 3.4.10
Build Number 3.16.401.8
Maps Version 6.14.2
Would be interested to hear from anyone else who has this problem, or more so from anyone who has it and managed to cure it. Else I will have to look at downloading an alternative ROM, one which has working maps!
There is a thread regarding the google map issue already.
I often have loss signal...any idea?
I've seen a topic already.. but the keyboard, especially in WhatsApp is so horribly slow on JB.. not just the One S, Galaxies etc. have it too.
I'm definitely having signal issues. Anyone else's WiFi taking a long time to automatically connect? On ICS wifi used to connect as soon as the phone was unlocked but now I'm waiting up to a whole minute for it to connect!
no problems with wifi here.
i already said im using all stock never touched device.
very weird

I searched the HTC One S forums for maps crashing and found one which is to do with Cyangenmod ROM as opposed to the stock ROM. I've posted it in here simply because it only started after the JB 4.1.1 update was completed over Xmas. (If I search again for maps crashing, I now get two which is the original thread and this one.)
If you can point me to the thread which deals with this problem, then I would appreciate it greatly, as it is really getting on my nerves. More so since I've removed all updates for Google Maps, they're now back to the stock JB version, and it still crashes.
Cheers
ok, so i just backed up my contacts to my sim card and deleted from phone and google account than i imported from sim and re synced and now the people bug is gone.

AT&T Voicemail notifications on Jelly Bean Rom?

I tried asking this in the Dev area related to the specific Rom I tried ([JellyBean][4.2.2]Unofficial CM10.1) and didn't get an immediate response ... so I thought I'd ask a more generic question....
New to Samsung Infuse 4G custom roms... but needed to update my wife's phone so I came here. I'm quite fond of CM 10.1 on my Acer A500... so it seemed a great fit.
So far, the rom I chose ([JellyBean][4.2.2]Unofficial CM10.1) is working well for her, but for one thing... instead of getting AT&T voicemail notifications, she gets an SMS from 1001005080. I assume this is the vm notification, just not being handled correctly by her phone (as it does occur when vm is left). NOTE: Not interested in going the google voice solution... just want her vm notifications back.
Can someone recommend a Jelly Bean Rom for the Infuse 4G for which AT&T Voicemail notifications are known to be working? Or a way to fix the issue on my [JellyBean][4.2.2]Unofficial CM10.1 setup?
Thanks in advance!
i have seen this problem on other peoples phones before, and they liked it, as if they setup it up that way, have you tried calling your provider and see if its setup that way on their end or not? also you may have to reset your vm settings (ie call your vm and reset to default over the phone) it shouldnt be anything to do with the rom
I hope you won't mind if I bring up one of my own problems regarding voicemail. When I was running gingerbread (stock, unrooted) I randomly got a voicemail notification one day and it never went away. After rooting and going to JB thru ICS, my first JB ROM was Slim Bean (this was a few months ago, so a really outdated version). The voicemail notification disappeared. After that, I changed ROMs and then the voicemail notification reappeared. Ever since then, I have not been able to get rid of it. I was using Google voice when I originally got the notification, but since then I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but the notification has never gone away. Whenever I reboot the phone, the notification shows up about 30 sec - 1 min after rebooting and never goes away.
Thanks for anything you can do to help.
Functionally it doesn't affect my phone, it just is an annoyance and takes up space in the notification drawer.

Setup that way>
The voicemail notifications were previously working normally on her AT&T official GB Rom and as well on a rooted GB ROM I installed on her phone. It's only when I installed the JB based ROM that the issue occurred. I don't know why one would like it that way... you get a msg when VM is left and then another one when you login and listen/delete it. Seems a hassle to then have to manually delete the msgs (and to my wife as well!).
Setup on their end>
Again, no change there.
Reset vm Settings>
Worth a try. I'll see if it changes anything.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Well... nothing I tried to change in voicemail made any difference. So I took a different approach... this Infuse has been flakey the entire time my wife had it, so for $.99 I upgraded her to a Samsung Galaxy S III refurbished phone. Hugely better... and ... true voicemail notifications are back! No weird SMS msgs. So something weird must have happened in my upgrade to JB.
Love the III though !

MMS and Notification issues on Note 10+

Hello, I've had the unlocked Note 10+ for a few weeks and have had chronic issues since day one and not really sure what to do about it. A lot of the issues seem to get worse over time. Not sure if the problems are related, but it feels like it.
First, I have MMS issues mostly with any other app but the built in messaging app and even that one isn't perfect. Using Textra for instance will get me MMS timeouts sending and receiving and sometimes messages don't send or come in. This seems to happen with or without wifi enabled.
Next, I'm getting delayed notifications on many if not all apps. Notifications will some in here or there, then all of a sudden I'll get all the notifications for the day all at once. So suddenly my phone is going crazy receiving 50 notifications from different apps all at once. Related to that, if I get a notification and click on it to open the related app, often nothing happens. Then like an hour or more later the app I clicked on for the notification will pop open in the middle of doing something else. It will also get hung up installing or updating apps. A reboot will usually clear this but at some point it get's stuck again and will take hours to install an app if it does at all.
I've done all the usual things like disabling battery optimization for the apps in question, set the phone to high performance mode. Uninstalled and reinstalled things, cleared the cache partition, reset network settings, checked APN settings, even now have factory reset the phone, twice, got a new SIM card. Talked to Samsung and they tell me I need to mail it to their repair depot in Texas if I think it's hardware.
So no idea where to go with this. Seems hard to believe it's a hardware problem and sending the phone away for a week or more doesn't seem like a great option, especially when they might just send it back as it works OK for awhile after a reboot.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
After you reset the phone, did you install apps manually from store or let it go off a backup?
Also, just an idea but maybe the tower servicing you is acting up.. Unless it's been happening in multiple areas.

That is a good point, I did let it install automatically from the Google backup. It wasn't a true restore the way I would generally think of it as everything was installed from scratch, but maybe some settings are getting put back that are messed up. It happens out of the are as well, but I did talk to my carrier and they claimed the did some stuff at the tower that might help. I usually think that means they go get coffee then tell me to reboot the phone. Maybe this evening I'll try a fresh install with no restore. Sort of sucks of course as that's a lot more work to get going, but what the hell at this point. Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply. I have a note 10+ myself now unlocked and seeing some texting issues where I don't receive text or mms from Apple phones. Hasn't happened with Android to Android though.

So none of that reinstall stuff helped me. On texting I finally tried the Google Messages app with chat features enabled when it was leaked. Messages alone didn't work, but enabling RCS did and now it actually works better than ever. I hate giving up on textra, but I like the sheer speed of sending giant MMS messages now.
On the notifications thing, the thing that finally got that working right was disabling the Google app. As soon as I did that, all is working as expected. Of course that breaks some Google stuff, but at the moment that's what I have to do to make this work. Even upgrading to Android 10 betas didn't allow me to turn that back on.
