1.root using superoneclick, (usb debugging should be on, then turn it off after rooting is done)
2.install recovery
3.download those two links:
3.4.3-11 fixed sbf
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?phevjdgubw7ve0h
3.4.3-20 nandroid
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?5reujjf04zyug7b
4.extract the nandroid and put the files only on your sdcard (create folders if do not exist):
/clockworkmod/backup/nandroid
5.boot into system recovery, wipe cache, data, all, then restore the nandroid back up you've just downloaded
6. flash the fixed sbf you've just downloaded

Delete this thread altogether, please. I'm working out some kinks and will post a custom rom later.
what is working, what not?
Thx
sent from my DEFY using XDA App
Thanks
What can I say.
I came from 2.34. Flashed your backup, then 3.4.2 boot only, then wiped.
What works:
1. Camera was fixed using cammera fix.
2. Phone app is recognizing my numbers from contacts even if they have country prefix before.
3. GSM and 3G connection worked out of the box.
What seems not to work:
1. Calendar seems not to be able to sync with google calendars. Maybe it's my bad but I only have Sync Contacts and Sync Gmail in my google account.
2. From my point of view there is still lots of bloatware (not necessary the blur stuff)
Thanks! Keep up the good work.
Sorry if I tell something wrong but when I delete or rename FamilyCalendarProvider, then I can't use the calender because I've got no possibility to sync it.
If i restore your buckup i'll be able to downgrade after?

Yes you will be able to downgrade after but only if you install the boot only sbf and not the entire rom.
So the steps are.
1. restore the backup provided in this thread.
2. when rebooting the phone will boot loop.
3. remove battery.
4. restart in sw update mode (power + up)
5. flash boot only sbf. (you can find it in the other thread )
6. reboot phone in recovery mode(power + down).
7. wipe data and cache.
8. reboot.

Yes you will. I just reverted back to 2.34.
Nice, very nice... but if I have flashed the 3.4.2 t-mobile froyo I will not be able to flash an sbf from 2.34 for example, right? (I've not flashed, only asking to know how all really works)
Thanks
Thats the question if you will be able to flash after, any sbf with the rsd lite
or not?

Yes, if you just restore nandroid backup and install boot only sbf, you'll be able to go back for an earlier ROM, I tried it.
BTW camera is not working for me (blank screen) with this ROM for some reason.
little explanations

Let's make some light!
If you install the full rom you can find here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922430
named p3_jordan_umts_jordan-user-2.2.1-3.4.2-107_JDN-4-000000-release-keys-signed-T-Mobile-US.sbf
You wont be able to downgrade!
RSD Lite will still work but it will only allow you to install this rom and not an earlier version like 2.34. Most probably will allow you to install future newer roms.
In order to be able to install anything you want at any time you want use boot only sbf or the full roms 2.21 or 2.34 or CN_2.2. Also take care that 2.51 is also locked (can not go down to 2.21 or 2.34 anymore)
Muznyu, flash the camera fix sbf and camera will start working.

you need to flash a camera fix (the sbf file, not flash fix) from either china froyo or tmo froyo as described earlier.

This is what I was thinking.
Thanks you very much for your explanation.
I think removing FamilyCalendarProvider.apk and FamilyCalendarProvider.odex makes calendar app unable to sync with google calendar. Could someone upload these files???

is the calendarbug already fixed?

So I have one of those dreaded 2.51 stock ROMs, what now?

Greetings,
I just bought and legally unlocked a Motorola Defy from Spain, and the carrier was Vodafone.
Checking the ROM in it, it says the following:
System version:
Blur_Version.2.51.1.MB525VF360Blur.Vodafone.en.ES
While the build number says:
JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1
So it's a 2.51.
What exactly does this mean?
I've searched the forum up and down and I still don't quite get it.
The only info I got was:
walter79 said:
!!!!!!!!! Flash only if you come from a 2.21 or 2.34 rom "That is because it has version 2 for CG31 and CG39, if you are on stock 2.51 those versions are 3 and if you flashed leaked froyo those are 4 and you cannot flash any firmware with lower versions. if you are on 2.21 or 2.34 you can flash this, otherwise you will brick your phone. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I don't understand what this means. What's version 2 and 3? What's CG31 and CG39?
There's no official 2.2 Froyo update for my phone, and AFAIK there's no news saying when that may happen.
I don't want Blur (I want to be able to use stock Android widgets), and I don't want the Vodafone or any other operator's stuff.
I know there's no stock ROM without those things so I'll have to do with a modded ROM (I'm very compelled to getting this one).
I'd also like to have the oportunity to reflash the phone to its stock ROM, in case I need to send it to warranty.
I flashed my girlfriend's Milestone with the latest UK official ROM through RSD Lite (after the phone bricked when I used the official update procedure!), and it was a rather simple procedure.
So given that I have one of those "bad" 2.51 ROMs, what additional procedures do I need to make, besides the sbf flashing through RSD Lite?
don't worry mate.. i have 2.51 too.
where to start it..
um.. maybe this.
CMIIW.
SBF is just like RAR and ZIP, it is packaging file.
inside SBF there many files, two of those are CG31.SMG & CG39.SMG.
some newer release SBF (froyo) might have EARLIER "version" of CG31.SMG and CG39.SMG
than CG31.SMG and CG39.SMG on your phone (2.51).
which mean it can't be done to flash it (flash to earlier version).
as long as you not flashing CG31.SMG and CG39.SMG when you apply froyo (leaked or official) update. it's fine..
i think someone here (fritolays) found method to FIX the SBF to exclude CG31.SMG and CG39.SMG. name of that SBF is FIXED SBF.
so if you want to upgrade to froyo, do not flash FULL SBF.
but use clockwork recovery to wipe data and wipe cache, then apply the nandroid backup, then flash the FIXED SBF using RSD Lite 4.9.
----------------------------------------
my advice before you doing anything,
do a factory reset, get root, install custom recovery,
then just create a nandroid backup of your stock 2.51 with custom recovery,
and make sure you have a FULL SBF of 2.51 of your region, and you have FIXED SBF 2.51 of your region.
so if you want to go back to eclair stock:
-install custom recovery, go to custom recovery, wipe data and wipe cache,
-apply restore nandroid backup of your stock
-flash the FIXED SBF 2.51 of your region.
-----------------------------------------
Ok, I now have a nice brick, for the moment.
After rooting, installing the clockwork mod and backing up my original ROM, I flashed a "fixed" SBF from the 3.4.3-11 version.
After the flash, the phone just hangs in the motorola symbol on and off (by about 2 minutes).
I tried both this SBF:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12596803&postcount=845
and this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12357943&postcount=62
Both give me the same result: Motorola logo on and off, and no boot.
The bootloader is still accessible.
RSD Lite says to power up the phone manually, but it does so by itself.
Is there some hidden ritual that I don't know of? (like unplugging the USB at a certain time or pressing some buttons?)
Any suggestions?
I've seen this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12620475&postcount=7
But I don't even know if it's a fixed ROM or not.. should I try it?
Tried the following ROM with the same result:
3.4.2_155-Fixed.CEE_DEBLUR.sbf
I'm starting to get a bit preocupied here.
Help?
Try restoring a nandroid backup first, then right when you reboot go into stock recovery and flash the fixed sbf for that nandroid backup you installed and it should work fine. It sounds like you may have flashed a fixed sbf before you installed a nandroid backup. Hope this helps.

How can I restore the nandroid I did previously?
The clockwork restore boot has been uninstalled, and the restore boot I have right now only has "wipe data", "wipe cache" and "apply update.zip"..
As far I know, you can't enter custom recovery from a boot loop. I don't know if this is correct, but the only way i see to you is flash the full SBF of your stock rom, that you can find here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
Tons of JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1, choose that best fits your phone and go. Next time, BEFORE flashing the fixed SBF, restore nandroid.

oh damn..
you just bricked your phone right...
the steps are wrong... the steps are:
root>install custom recovery>apply nandroid backup of froyo>reboot but immediately go to bootloader>flash fixed sbf of froyo.
you have to restore nandroid backup of froyo 3.4.3-11 first before you flash the fixed SBF of 3.4.3-11.
from your explanation,
you create backup of your 2.51 then flash the fixed sbf of 3.4.3-11?
if it is true, the ROM is still eclair 2.51 and you install the 3.4.3-11 firmware,
i think that's the problem.
you should restore nandroid backup of froyo 3.4.3-11 first before you flash the fixed sbf of 3.4.3-11.
after that, you follow what pays thread says to do to install his rom.
just because your defy cannot be started,
what you can do now is just flash your phone back to eclair 2.51 first with full SBF, not fixed.
the condition now is you have FIXED firmware of 3.4.3-11, but with 2.51 ROM inside.
just because it is fixed, you still have a chance going back to eclair 2.51
search Full SBF Eclair 2.51 of your region, and flash it with RSD Lite.
hope and make sure your battery is full enough to flash the full SBF, maybe 60-80% is enough.
because with that condition, i think the battery is not charging, even you charge it.
after everything is back to normal (eclair 2.51)
then if you still want to use pays, follow this method
-root
-install custom recovery, reboot to custom recovery
-restore nandroid backup of froyo 3.4.3-11 (if you can't find it pm me)
-immediately flash fixed sbf of froyo 3.4.3-11
-now your phone should froyo 3.4.3-11
-install pays rom with custom recovery
I flashed this sbf and I now have a working phone with a 3.4.2-155 firmware. Phew...
So I should have "restored the nandroid backup of 3.4.3-11" while still having the 2.51 firmware and only then I should have flashed the fixed firmware?
Sorry, this is really confusing for me.
With this 3.4.2-155 firmware, can I still do that procedure to get the pays rom?

oh no...
you flash the FULL SBF of 3.4.2-155??
you should flash FULL SBF of 2.51...
i think you lost your downgradeability now...
but you still can use pays,
just follow like pays thread says.
just because you lost your downgradeability,
you shouldn't even care to flash the full SBF 3.4.3-11 now..
(you don't have to use any nandroid backup now to upgrade to newer build)
ToTTenTranz said:

yea, you should do that...
while still having 2.51 firmware,
you should restore the nandroid backup of 3.4.3-11 first,
and then you flash the fixed sbf of 3.4.3-11.
Now you are +1 that can't go back to 2.1 \o/ (like me kkkk)
If you have flashed the full SBF from 2.51.1 you could still have a chance.
And yes, you can go to any ROM that is 2.2 now, test Pays, LiquidArc and BluelessGinger from JBoogie3 and Barebones from Fritolays(my favourite). Don't worry about nandroid backups anymore, just do the full SBF when you install a new ROM (it's what I do).
But as soon as the Spanish Vodafone release a Froyo ROM, I should be able to flash to that and still get the warranty if I need to, right?
Truth be told, I would never want to go back to 2.1, except for warranty procedures.
The problem is that, only if you can find a SBF from Vodafone ES you will have your warranty. And this is just a possibility, since this SBF was not released yet. Good luck for you (and for me, since I'm in the same situation, heheheh)

as long as the official spanish vodafone SBF have the latest version of CG31.SMG and CG39.SMG inside (newer than CG31.SMG and CG39.SMG inside 3.4.3-11), it should be fine..
otherwise there's workaround though.
if just in case the CG31 and CG39 are in lower version,
you should restore nandroid of official froyo spanish (when it released)
then you flash the fixed sbf of that release.
i am sorry for your lost...
but you can still go back to 2.51 though..
but not in proper "real eclair 2.51"
i will post this method if you ask.
Helps to read all the threads on the process as there are many. Now the problem lies your on froyo and can't get back to eclair if you need to send it in for repair. The main thing tho is your back up and running.

[Q] Rom flash fail----Help

I have a lg g2x that I previously rooted and installed clockwork mod on. Today I tried to flash the weapon rom and it failed. I followed the directions posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207125
Instructions on flashing
1. Download zip and place on sdcard
2. Reboot into clockwork recovery
3. Perform a factory reset
4. Navigate to mounts and storage and format /system
5. Choose Install zip from sdcard <-----This is where it failed. I got the message installation aborted. Now the phone hangs on the lg start up screen (with the blue bar)
the file on the sd card weapon g2x_30_r1-1022.zip (didn't unzip or edit name)
I have clockwork mod 3.1.0.1 on my phone and can hold the volume down & power to boot to clockwork.
EDIT: what format should the card be formatted ? I pulled it out the phone to add the file so I doubt that's it J/W
I ASSUME I can flash other roms....but I want this one and I got a feeling since I did everything right with this rom others would fail also.
any help is greatly appreciated
you need to update the Clock work mod first of all, and second you messed up by attempting boot a phone that has no rom on it... just redownload the rom and update the CWM to 5.0.2.0
the phone hangs at lg start up screen and doesn't start......how do I update clockwork mod?....so by saying I had no rom on the phone that file (weapon g2x_30_r1-1022.zip) is an update to a rom ?
Can I download another rom to the SD card from a computer and boot from clockwork mod?
I fixed my phone. I downloaded the stock gingerbread LG-P999-V21e file and my phone is up and running with root.
Before I tried to flash my phone I had a stock froyo when I did my nandroid backup with clockwork mod 3.1.0.1
Before I try to flash more roms I will download the newest clockwork mod. Do I have to perform the nandroid backup again? Or is the current backup sufficient ?
EDIT: I just noticed the camera folder (NOT saved to SD) and some ringtones from soundboards are still on my phone...but how? a cache?

delete the last backup and nandroid again. The last backup you did was with another version of the CWM so it won't restore with the new version of CWM that you just updated.

[Q] Going back from custom rom to stock. need some direction please.

Hello all,
sorry if this is a repeated question. I tried to read as much as I can in the Q&A and general sections, but could not find it.
I have a NS that was running CNA 1.4 for sometime. I got tired from the performance and I decided to give phone to my better half. Since my wife does not care much about custom roms, I decided to go back to stock so I can give her a care-free phone. She would be capable of doing the OTA updates on her own.
so, these are the steps I did to get to custom:
1. phone came with 2.3.4
2. unlock BL using ADB
3. root and install CWM
4. Nandroid backup
5. OTA update to 2.3.6
6. Nandroid backup
7. Custom ICS rom
when I tried to go back to stock I did a restore to step 6 above, the OTA was pushed automatically to my phone, but when I tried to install, the phone rebooted but did nothing and it seemed stuck at the android with an ! in a triangle.
I removed the battery, restored back to step 4 above and tried again and I got the same results.
I know I am probably forgetting something but I am not sure what is it.
Could someone please offer some direction?
thanks in advance.
Flash official factory images with fasttboot .
You cant get official OTAs when your device is rooted
thanks guys for your reply.
but what is the main cause for not being able to install OTA updates?
1. is it because the BL in unlocked?
2. or because of root?
if because of root, has anyone tried that app from the Market? could it be used to regain root after OTA?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper
thanks again.
You can get ota just fine on a stock (unmodified) rom with root. You will loose root when it updates. Then just reroot it.
Bootloader state is irrelevant.

thanks for the info.
one last question, when I rooted my 2.3.4, it also installed CWM recovery.
Does CWM interfere with the OTA update or just the root?
if it interferes, I'll have to find a way to go back to stock recovery, right?
Yes and no.
For the OTA process to go as "normal' stock recovery needs to be there. Normal as in get the OTA notifcation/auto download reboot and install.
No as in if you manually download or place the ota zip file on your internal storage it will flash in cwm like any other zip.
Also since ICS you currently have to flash the ota zips with aftermarkt recoverys if you do it manually. The pick zip from sd card in stock recovery is broken now.
In the stock rom under /system/etc there is a script that overwrites custom recovery with the stock one on every boot. Rename that file to .bak or something instead of its default .sh If you want to stock recovery back just change the file extenstion back and reboot the phone fully. Next time you boot back into recovery it will be stock again.
Or you don t go to stock recovery and flash the updates by yourself on your phone. Downloaf them and then flash them through CWM. But i think u havent got CWM anymore after grtting an official update. You ll get the original recovery again
thanks again guys.
currently I can go back to either 2.3.4 or 2.3.6 stock roms but both have CWM and root.
ultimately what I want to do is:
1. be able to un-root (probably using this market app)
2. download OTA on phone, do normal "reboot and install"
3. boot up with updated OTA rom.
4. regain root (probably using the same market app)
so, what I understand from prev posts, that I must put back the stock recovery (which I do not mind) for my steps above to work.
can I use ADB and fastboot to push the stock "recovery.img"? and where to find it?
I'll do some searching in the forums, but if someone happens to have link to the thread, it would be fantastic.
thanks again
Why dont you keep the root and flash the official firmware that you downloaded per CWM. So you dont have to unroot and root again later. Or do a factory wipe.
ok guys, so whatever I tried to do I was not able to get the stock recovery back to go with the "normal OTA download on phone, reboot and install thing", so here is what I ended up doing.
1. I had 2.3.6 (GRK39F), rooted stock rom, cwm recovery.
2. Download/install "OTA Rootkeeper" free app from Google Play Market. link below
3. Using "OTA Rootkeeper" app, did a "backup root", then "temp un-root"
4. Download official signed Google ICS update package to upgrade from 2.3.6 (GRK39F) to 4.0.4 (IMM76D) and move it to sd card. link below
5. Reboot into cwm recovery
6. Install update from sd card and choose Zip from #4
7. Go back and reboot system
8. After upgrade to ICS is complete, use "OTA Rootkeeper" app, did a "restore root" and voila
9. So now I have rooted stock ICS rom, and cwm recovery.
notes:
these steps should also work on whatever stock GB rom you have as long as:
a. rooted
b. have cwm
c. download the proper update package in step 4 above.

thanks again guys, couldn't have done without your help
good luck for anyone trying to do the same.
1.Download appropriate rom for your phone
i9020T or i9023
http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/NexusS/roms/ota/2.3.6/i9020t_i9023.zip
and i9020a
http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/NexusS/roms/ota/2.3.6/i9020a.zip
2.Copy it to sdcard
3.Install it through recovery (CWM)
4.Restart system
5.Reboot phone into bootloader
6. Hit recovery and once you get the lil droidy and the !, Push Vol up + Power until you get blue menu
7. Go to wipe data/fact reset
8.Reboot to bootloader
9.then go into adb and type fastboot oem lock
By this time you shouldve completely returned your phone to stock and you are able to get ota updates and everything!!! YAY!!!!

if you wanna go back to 100% stock unrooted, download any rom from that thread and install through cwm then reboot and you will be stock and unrooted with stock recovery and then just lock the boot loader and you will be 101% factory stock and ready to receive ota updates. I would recommend the 2.3.6 because it will give you the 4.0.4 ota right after you reboot.

[Q] Can't find my nandroid backup on TWRP (XT1032)

Hi, I have a moto g x1032 with TWRP as a custom recovery and I have installed an unofficial CM 12 rom. I made a nandroid backup with TWRP before flashing CM 12 and I want to restore my device back to the stock motorola firmware because I have some battery issues with the custom rom and the Lollipop OTA update is coming soon anyway.
Here's my issue : I saved the nandroid backup on my computer and I just copied it back on my internal storage in the TWRP folder, but when I boot in TWRP and go to restore I can't see my backup. :/
I think I made a mistake because I renamed the folder to Android/BACKUPS/Moto g/2014-11-27--06-21-08 KXB21.14-L1.40 and I suppose TWRP only recognizes the original folder name (can't find the original name anywhere).
Can someone confirm the issue comes indeed from there, and if so, tell me the name of this stupid folder ?
Thanks

Hey mate,
To get the ota you'll need stock recovery so it would be best to just flash a stock zip and stock recovery
But to answer your question, on my moto 1032..the folder is ..... TWRP/BACKUPS/TA93008Q52
Thanks, I made a small nandroid backup of just my boot partition to get the number, changed the name of the file and it worked.
I didn't know that I had to go back to stock recovery for the update, is there any way to do that without wiping the data ?

Yes, however you'll have to revert all system modifications you made to the ROM (Root, Xposed, e.t.c.)

The ROM is untouched, I made the nandroid backup just after I installed TWRP, I just double-checked and it's unrooted. The only modification I made was changing the bootlogo animation (I put back the original one instead of the "unlocked bootloader" one).
I know it's not the original request of the thread but can you point me where I can find a way to do it ?
Where to revert the bootloader locked image?...I don't think you need to....only to flash the stock recovery .....
Stock recovery file for x1032 can be found here....after reverting to backup, flash this (bye bye twrp )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649763
But if you need to put back the unlocked warning, try this thread, open the app then make a blank zip (with the logo bin files for logo unlocked blank)
And flash that in twrp.

I just mentioned the fact that I changed the bootloader logo but I don't think it matters when installing OTA updates.
I found a stock recovery in the thread you mentioned, but it is a zip file (I opened it and there is a recovery.img file and a folder named META-INF). Can I just flash the recovery.img through fastboot or is there any other step to the process ?

Flash the zip file you downloaded in twrp (your custom recovery)....
Or you can extract the recovery image and flash via fastboot
