[Q] Can't find my nandroid backup on TWRP (XT1032) - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a moto g x1032 with TWRP as a custom recovery and I have installed an unofficial CM 12 rom. I made a nandroid backup with TWRP before flashing CM 12 and I want to restore my device back to the stock motorola firmware because I have some battery issues with the custom rom and the Lollipop OTA update is coming soon anyway.
Here's my issue : I saved the nandroid backup on my computer and I just copied it back on my internal storage in the TWRP folder, but when I boot in TWRP and go to restore I can't see my backup. :/
I think I made a mistake because I renamed the folder to Android/BACKUPS/Moto g/2014-11-27--06-21-08 KXB21.14-L1.40 and I suppose TWRP only recognizes the original folder name (can't find the original name anywhere).
Can someone confirm the issue comes indeed from there, and if so, tell me the name of this stupid folder ?
Thanks

Hey mate,
To get the ota you'll need stock recovery so it would be best to just flash a stock zip and stock recovery
But to answer your question, on my moto 1032..the folder is ..... TWRP/BACKUPS/TA93008Q52

Thanks, I made a small nandroid backup of just my boot partition to get the number, changed the name of the file and it worked.
I didn't know that I had to go back to stock recovery for the update, is there any way to do that without wiping the data ?

Yes, however you'll have to revert all system modifications you made to the ROM (Root, Xposed, e.t.c.)

The ROM is untouched, I made the nandroid backup just after I installed TWRP, I just double-checked and it's unrooted. The only modification I made was changing the bootlogo animation (I put back the original one instead of the "unlocked bootloader" one).
I know it's not the original request of the thread but can you point me where I can find a way to do it ?

Where to revert the bootloader locked image?...I don't think you need to....only to flash the stock recovery .....
Stock recovery file for x1032 can be found here....after reverting to backup, flash this (bye bye twrp )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2649763
But if you need to put back the unlocked warning, try this thread, open the app then make a blank zip (with the logo bin files for logo unlocked blank)
And flash that in twrp.

I just mentioned the fact that I changed the bootloader logo but I don't think it matters when installing OTA updates.
I found a stock recovery in the thread you mentioned, but it is a zip file (I opened it and there is a recovery.img file and a folder named META-INF). Can I just flash the recovery.img through fastboot or is there any other step to the process ?

Flash the zip file you downloaded in twrp (your custom recovery)....
Or you can extract the recovery image and flash via fastboot

[Q] Converting CWM backup to flash zip ??

Hi everyone! I aware that maybe this is a stupid question, but i have to ask...Is there a way to convert a CWM backup to a flash zip to use with the CWM install zip option??? I'm asking this because I have a particular problem and is that I can't do backups or restore with my CWM so i can't install almost any custom rom that is in the developers forum.
I don't know why i have this problem, even I posted a thread asking for help about this, but I guess I'm the only one experiencing this issue and the only rom I successfully installed is the Victory Rom and is a flashing zip.
By the way I installed the CWM with the Atrix Bootstrap and I applied the patch RAZR-CWMOnBoot-Global-J.Y.Daddy.zip to have the CWM on every boot and I don't experience any GPS issue (I guess i don't know exactly what is the issue) and for the record when I'm trying to do a CWM backup i get the "check sum error" when the CWM tried to finish the backup process, and when i'm attemping to restore a backup the CWM starts without problem but then I get the "Error while restoring /system".
I hope you can helpme with this problem.
Thank's in advanced.

after you apply the atrix bootstrap use rom manager and install the recovery for the droid bionic and you will be able to back up and restore roms. advance restore also works incase you do a wipe, install a rom, and then want your data restored.

You could convert it... but you would have to write an updater-script, and get an updater-binary (you can basically steal it from any flashable zip.)

Should I remove the patch for CWM on every boot? Or i just download the recovery with rom manager ?

Well I tried this with no success , I installed the recovery for the droid bionic and then I reboot into recovery with rom manager and make a cwm backup, the result was an error when generating the md5Sum and my battery went from 60% to 3%, that kinda surprise me it's the second time that happens, the first time was when i was updating from stock 2.3.5 to 2.3.6.
Worth the shot i guess but until i can fix this i guess i'm screwed :'( .

That is an interesting point because everything I've done, the rooted, the atrix bootstrap recovery and the CWM on boot patch has been with version stock rom 2.3.6 I never tried do it with the 2.3.5 so i guess i'll be downgrading tonigth to stock 2.3.5.
thank's, when i'm done i will inform of my result.
cheers.

It works!!!! it was the stock 2.3.6 update that was stopping me from backup or restore in CWM maybe it changes something in the bootloader that screw the CWM, but now i'm testing the Lithium rom 1.2 . Thank you all for your help and tips.

Sorry for bringing this up again but I need the answer to the
original question on converting a CWM backup to flashable zip...
my question:
My CWM Backup consistes of 7 files:
boot.img
recovery.img
system.yaffs2.img
data.yaffs2.img
cache.yaffs2.img
nandroid.md5
.android_secure.vfat.tar
my guess is that the first two go directly into the update.zip
then What about the other three yaffs2 files and the .android_secure.vfat.tar file
how are they extracted/combined into the zip file??
ps.about the updater-script and updater-binary, can I take them both from any flashable zip?

Its possible, I have done it, and the only foders you need are system and data...
It will be a pain, tho, your gonna wanna do it through Linux, updater script needs to have the right commands in it to do this, so its def not a drag and drop process, even tho some of it is..

all you need to do is use unyaffs on the system.img and optionally data.img and if will unarchive them, then back it into a zip with the boot.img and build the updater-script!

[Q] Need Xperia J stock ROM back

I flashed few custom ROMs in last few days. I used to restore to stock ROM using CWM recovery using backup but now backup itself is not working and I want my data with stock ROM back anyhow. I have nandroid backup copy on my pc. Is there any way I can restore it from PC?
I downloaded original firmware i.e. ST26i_11.0.A.7.5_CE.ftf but when I try to flash using flashtool, device gets disconnected automatically. I am not able to flash. Plz tell me the solution.

rom manager from google play lets you download backup's from pc or cloud storage but im not sure if its for the free users as i have the premium licence but its worth a check. with the flashtool problem try reinstalling the drivers or flashtool its self.
Not the same question, but similar.
When installing CM10 FXP on my stock 4.0.4 Xperia J, i did fastboot flash boot boot.img then entered cwm and made backup.
As far as i know, flashing boot.img erases only kernel and init image, so except wrong boot.img (4.1 JB kernel) in cwm backup, all other data is intact. And now, if i want to get back to more-or-less stock is it sufficient to use vengence (or any other 4.0) kernel boot.elf, rename it to boot.img and put its md5sum into file containing image md5 sums?
Plus, is it possible to get stock firmware 7.5 kernel in boot.img format to create functioning stock backup?

You can use vengeance, or open the .ftf you used for flashing and extract kernel.sin from it.That's the stock kernel.Open it with 7zip or similar, and you can see the kernel.sin straight from there. It's flashable from flashtool.

[Q] Get back to Sock OS with Backup

Hi,
Before I flashed my first rom, I backed up the stock OS, and I still have it. If I wanted to flash it back onto my phone, can I just use the ClockworkMod recovery and choose restore? I know after that it will still have an unlocked bootloader and will be rooted, but I just wanna know if I need to use RUU to flash the stock rom which I still have because I backed it up.
Thanks!

I am assuming you made the backup of the stock with ClockworkMod.
Yes, you can restore it and do not have to RUU and you will be fine. Most likely you have fastboot flashed a new boot.img when you installed the new Rom. If you are S-on a restore will not be able to change your boot.img back.
You will need to fastboot flash the backup's boot.img.
This is why it is good to have your backup on your pc. When you open that backup file on your pc, you will see the boot.img file that you need to flash.
If you have changed your recovery or updated it you most likely will have to flash the recovery that made the backup.
The exceptions to the rule would be something like: Maximus HD, where you would need to downgrade your firmware, clear storage in bootloader when you have the stock recovery installed. Reinstall your custom recovery and restore your backup.

im not sure but if they were both rooted with a custom recovery installed im sure you could make a backup of the first one and put it on the bad ones SD card. i could be wrong havent tried it yet xD
Its tht simple..
Shortest method..
Create a backup of ur working device in ext sd card (via CWM)
then, then put tht sd card in non working one..
Boot into recovery and restore...
All Done!!
Best Of Luck!!
I neglected to mention that the messed up tablet has a cyanogen rom on it.
That's part of the reason I want to copy the other tablets firmware because it has the stock firmware.
That tablet isn't rooted.
So if I put a custom recovery like TWRP on it and backup everything then put that backup on the messed up tablet,
when I restore from that it will get rid of the CM rom system and replace EVERYTHING with what is on the Stock working tablet?
Am I understanding that correctly?

I know this is old but you are correct. In order to backup system files from a working device, it would need to be either rooted or have a custom recovery installed, example twrp.
