I've got my Google Voice linked to my phone using my Sprint number and everytime I recieve a call I first have to press 1 to accept it...
Is there a way around this or is this required when using GV on our phones? I dont like that extra step. I'll deal if I dont have a choice but I would prefer for it not to be that way.
Go into your Google Voice account online and turn off call screening.
I had the same issue just log into GV and click on the gear and then its under calls or phone

You have to go to voice.google.com, preferences, select the phone, then the option is under calls
I would like the old google voice app back.
you know the one where you can just use it for vm....the new one you cant do that with.

yeah but are you getting voicemails? care to share your apk at all?
Here's the apk I used. You also need your data from a working vvm backup.
EDIT: Yes I am getting voicemails.
Have you had any luck with it?

I have the Nexus S 4g. Since vvm is not installed, I had Google Voice take over my voicemail. Now, when I install this apk, it won't provision. Not surprising I guess since Sprint now thinks that Google has my number. How do I reverse this? I don't see any way in GV to undo my number from it.

There is no way to do it from the app, go to google.com/voice log in and you can disable there. I did not like Google voice prefer sprint but can't get it to work. From what I have seen only way to get sprint vvm to work on this phone is if u previously had a titanium backup from another phone like someone above mentioned.

You know what I did, I used unyaffs to get into a clockwork recovery backup made on my previous phone(an epic) and did some digging. The fie you will need is in data/data called 'com.coremobility.app.vnotes'. I deleted the one that installing the app created and put in the one I dug out of my backup and it seems to be working fine. I have received two voicemails with it. Hope this is helpful
Edit: ignore the above, there is more to it apparently...not working as it should
Dam that sounded so promising bro,i wish we could fig this out I will dog into my back ups from my epic also

Major bummer. I am just about ready to turn this phone in because of this VM issue. Tried GV as my primary but it drove me crazy, especially since it took over sms as well.
I may have a titanium back up on my old Evo SD card. Where does one find the data file?
yeah, that doesnt seem to work, i pulled old data files and added to new vm apk but it actually sends voicemail alert to old phone, so there has to an esn # included somewhere that i cant find....
but yeah the app is there just not functioning
Why the hell wasn't there visual voicemail in the first place?!?!?!

Im running youmail and its real close to original VVM from sprint it just has to send you a txt to notify you of a new voicemail or you can config to check for new mails at intervals
I've tried several things. and Gvoice doesnt seem to find my phone number. it keeps failing on the step to where it txts a message to gvoice to activate it.
Try YouMail plus

i did... it didnt tell me i had voicemail for 2 days. PLUS scared the LIVING HELL OUT OF MY MOM!!!! i died laughing.. my mom told me that my voicemail said "Hello Thresea, Kyle cant come to the phone right now but leave a message" or something on the lines of it.
You mean she didn't say "who's that nice girl answering your phone ? " lol

That's probally the main reason why I use YouMail... And for me at least I rarely ever have any problems getting notifications... But another reason why I use it is that Google voice tells me that my device can't be configured. YouMail does it with one button push... So idk, lol... Plus i like the nifty caller ID thing and stuff
Sent from my PG06100 using xda premium
i have to agree it is nifty. BUT one issue i have and idk if its youmail or if its CM7 or if its the Cyclonic rom im using. but it becoming annoying is when i receive a call no matter what if they are in my contacts or not. it says would like to accept this call press 1 now.
Hmm... That's interesting... I'm gonna play around and see if i can duplicate that.. Ill edit in a bit
One quick question. Do you get the rotary answer call thing or does it just say press one to answer?
I'm still a noob at a lot of this, I'm just trying to help, if someone more knowledgeable knows, lol, they're probally better off helping... Ill still look around though, I'm trying to learn everything
Edit: well it isn't CM7 I can't even find a setting to make that happen.. And YouMail can't take calls... I'm gonna check out Cyclonic but idk, if it really is that annoying you could also do a fresh install of the rom, wipe everything, would only take maybe 10 minutes

It has to do with the provisioning or some such wording. Try to dial one these numbers, I can't remember which is the newest that will fix your issues: *282678861049 or *282679540127 listen for the stutter and then try a test call. Sorry I can't remember I'm old! LOL

the first number was for verizion and the 2nd was youmail activation.
yeah that second number is for sprint it tells sprint to forward your voicemail to youmail that why you get the dial 1 msg. Man been a while since i had these probs, but if you go to the youmailsupport and search there are issue fixes . Sorry to be longwinded and disregard if you don't wanna use it.
Ahh, i think i understand, i misunderstood... OK, dial 1 for voicemail... From the YouMail app hit menu-help-forward to YouMail... Maybe that will work?

Well kinda like this ,once you get the youmail account set up on-line you dial *whichever number worked for sprint (lol) from your phone. Then on your phone menu>settings>Call>My Carrier tap then voicemail settings anduse the number that youmail gave think it's 714-xxx-xxxx .

Are you sure you're not already using Google Voice? Because the call announcement is a feature of Voice. Try going to google.com/voice under Settings -> Calls and see if you've got Call Screening enabled.

There are several texting apps in the Play Store. My personal favorite is TextNow. The only caveat is that you tell it what area code you are in, and they assign you a "phone number" and that is the number your texts come from. You may end up getting a phone number from the area code you enter, or you may not, it just depends upon what's available. As long as the people you text know it's "you" and list it as one of your "phone numbers" it does not really matter.
You can even buy "credits" and make and receive voice calls using this number.

But, that's the whole point. It's not a "phone" it's a tablet. I know it has a phone number however, that was the reason for my question, because its not really a phone.

So, I should use Tablet Talk if I want to associate my phone's phone number on my tablet, OR, I can install Google Voice on my tablet and use my Google Voice number on my tablet?
Sorry if I'm being confusing!

This is my first HTC device and the first time on Verizon, coming from the nexus line. So far, of course loving the build quality! So, so, so good! But my question is very simple and just an annoyance, maybe there's nothing to fix this. Group messaging works perfect, nothing wrong with it, its just every time I click on the conversation it says converting to MMS, I don't care that its doing that, but the message that pops up every time is starting to annoy me... Is there any fix for this? Couldn't find anything in the settings

Not the Verizon one, but stock one that comes with HTC. I'm use to hangouts cause coming from nexus and I didn't mind that at all. Reason I'm not using the Verizon messaging app is cause the rep at Verizon was messing with my phone while the number was being ported and basically setting it up for me cause he has an m8, said he was saving me a few headaches

Just go back to using Hangouts. That is what I use, no problems at all.

More likely that VZW rep is responsible for your current headache!
Go back to the store and ask what he messed up!
Does anyone else get prompted to accept/decline visual voice mail EVERY single time you get a voice-mail? How many times must I decline?? I don't want to pay for this thing and I've never had it forced in my face so many times with other Verizon phones.
Oh, it asks me after I check my voicemail and delete whatever I had in there, too. Ridiculous.
Download Google Voice, set it up. This was you avoid Verizon voicemail completely, get the same features, and its free.
I honestly don't even care about the features (I've used GV before). I just need this prompt to not be coming up twice every single time I get a VM. Did you hit "accept"? I always hit reject (since I don't want to use it).
Don't know. I use Verizon VVM multiple times a day and it never prompts me.
Did you maybe freeze/debloat something?

Premium visual voice mail is the only paid part..... You can get basic visual for free. And actually it's supposed to be used on all smartphones now. Cuts down on the calls on the cell site.
Personally I use google voice because I don't run out of space and get texts sent to me transcribed but I have been doing that for ten years about.
For people who don't want to go through the setup of gv visual is offered free for basic.
Easier to check anyway don't know why you wouldn't want it xD
