He's already posted the instructions. Some people were wary, but if you watch the videos it appears to be working for CWM that is. the ROM does flash but I would be cautious, it's not going to work for everything.

OK that's impressive. Looks legit. Seeing is believing. Nice work sir! Will this work with cwm 3 as well?

Yeah but will is restore properly and boot after restore??
wanna know a secret? what ever he is flashing doesnt have a data dir in the zip
The Vibrant CWM maps /data to /dev/blk/mmcblk0p2. it maps /dbdata to dev/blk/stl10
The 4G doesnt have /dbdata, and /data is mapped to /dev/blk/stl10 and it doesnt have mmcblk0p2
If you try to restore or flash anything with a data dir, it WILL FAIL.
God I swear, why do I even bother.

Isn't it possible to take the splash from the SGS4g and put it on the vibrant? I know I did this for my own custom splash screen on my HTC Desire HD. Sorry not trying to shoot it down just skeptical

Yes clockword recovery is working and data files can be restored. I will post the video for this thsoon. The only thong that is not working is flashing rom.zip data applications i.e. additional 3rd party applications which are noT android. This being said all installed LATER 3rd party applications can be backed up and restored using this clockword recovery.

First off I am VERY NOOB. I mean no disrespect to the OP. I have been stalking this forum for a bit now and I thought this was impossible. Sorry if wrong.
My reply is for the knowledgable skeptics.
Here it goes.
The videos are convincing. I've watched both several times and frankly I don't know what to look for technically.
However I do" have an eye, a good eye" and it strikes me funny that during the entirety of both videos the part above our screen , the tmobile name , our light sensor and front having camera appears to ALWAYS be fuzzy, slightly obscured and even digitally.."fogged"?
Question could these videos be "Hollywood".. Special effects?
Like I said. I'm VERY NOOB. I don't know anything about this stuff other than what I've been reading on OUR FORUM.
And I make ABSOLUTELY NO ACCUSATIONS at all. (I WANT THIS!!!)
I'm just pointing out a fact of the videos..unless it's my phone.
Again. IF I'M WRONG I APOLOGIZE. But there ARE the lovecomppoopy types around and I'm just trying to give knowable skeptics something physical to look at.
I HOPE I'M WRONG

i.e. you created a working CWM?, you used Krylons CWM? you dont have any explanations in your post. how can we try it out to see if it works when all we have to go on is what Krylon360 and DrHonk are releasing.

Sorry if this should be in a different thread. Not trying to get flamed. So I am coming from a captivate and am just wondering how is flashing stuff on the inspire different from the captivate? Typically most of my flashing was just done thru CWM on the captivate itself or thru ODIN. I know ODIN doesnt exist for the inspire, but what differences can I expect coming into? how do I get to recovery or download? Any answers on how the flashing experience is different would be much appreciated
Once you've rooted it's pretty much the same as captivate install rom manager and install Rom with cwm recovery. There isn't a need to flash back to stock. Just clear data and cache.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
yup, clockwork mod makes life a hell of a lot easier.
And this restore a heck of a lot better than the captivate did. I don't even use titanium backup anymore. All my txt messages and apps automatically restores including wallpaper

Thanks guys, my only question is how to get CWM on this phone after root. Im assuming its thru a kernel?
same way you do it on the captivate get rom manager from the market. Install CWM Recovery.
There's no need for special recoveries like on the captivate as there's no lagfix craziness to deal with. HTC uses Android/Linux standard file systems

Totally agree, ill never get samsung again. I would probably flash a different rom on my captivate every other day to find out which one had what bugs and what didnt work correctly, lol. The Inspire is a lot harder to root then the captivate, but is well worth it when you do, for one roms are higher quality and all 100% working, even cm7 rc1. There is no download mode for inspire, you can manually boot into bootloader mode and from there you can enter CWM Recovery.
So i looked at the HTC hack kit, are there any better instructions for rooting? just didnt see anything laid out in that thread.
Another question for yall: On the captivate when wifi was active the 3g symbol would disappear. This doesnt happen on my inspire. Does that mean hspa is still running while im connected to wifi? Battery drain is my issue with this
there's a readme in the hack kit. Very easy to follow
There is youtube two part video walkthrough, thats what i used. I learn easier if i can see it happening.
Sent from Inspire 4G using XDA App
On the vibrant (captivate) a bad kernel or Rom could mean boot loop and no hope of getting into clockwork and we would have to use odin. This doesn't happen on the inspire?
Sent from my Inspire '4g'.
ive had boot loop happen twice so far and both times i manually went into boot loader and went to CWM recovery and wiped data and reflashed then everything was fine. The one time i reflashed and still got boot loop i just restored back up and then flashed and was good to go. I made a backup right after i rooted so i wouldnt have to do it again, i suggest you do the same just to be safe.

lol dont mind the hijacking. the more questions asked the better.
the market auto restores your apps when you sign in with your google account, i cant really explain how it does this, but it sure is nice.
when you check back up my settings when you sign into google for teh first time, it starts keeping a list of market apps you've installed and restores them if you do a factory reset. doesn't seem to catch all of mine all the time though.
still have some questions regarding Flash
I read the rooting thread as well as saw the video, what I could understand is that in captivate we were rooting and then upgrading the ROM.
But here we are rooting and the downgrading.. Are we loosing any functionality? Its little difficult to understand..
can someone pls help?
You are actually downgrading the ROM then rooting THAT. After you have root, and have clockwork mod recovery installed you can install any rooted rom you like. There are a few to choose from in the Dev section.
The current Android release on the Inspire hasn't been "cracked" yet so you need to downgrade to get root.
im new at this please bear with me.
i rooted my shift last week. everything was fine, im not ready to get too crazy into flashing stuff yet (since the risk for bricking is higher with android). i like to take my time read, study, test small things here and there.
today i was browsing the forums and came across the battery icon mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892297
so i downloaded it, i had rom manager installed, and installed the battery icon manager.
i chose the icon i wanted rebooted, it looked ok, so i wanted to try the other icon and loaded that one, phone rebooted and got stuck on the sprint splash screen.
i can boot into the bootloader, not sure what steps i need to take next to restore my os.

once you're in bootloader, select recovery, then backup restore. Then restore. Then restore your backup that we're all sure you made before you made those mods right? RIIIIIGHT?????
You have to get to boot loader to get to recovery to wipe and flash your rom... (hold vol down and press power) in case you didn't know..you should being that its rooted..I dunno

Boot in to CWM Recovery go to backup/restore /advanced restore, select restore /system only. Once that is complete clear the cache, reboot. you can then delete your dalvik cache (note: clearing the dalvik cache doesn't work via CWM currently). That's it.
If you didn't make a back up, just re flash the rom. If you were still stock, just flash preludedrew's or nfinitefx's base. You can even still keep your data. Just make sure from now on to back up before doing any mods.

so did you get any luck with that rom?
how come when unzipping it the file name is kf1?
outgoing call log works thank god and wifi bars are strong a little diffrent than the first release
This is great news. Means that they are actively working on 2.3 and that the KF1 leak wasn't just an isolated thing.
Will flashing this (without the .pit) cause a data wipe? Anyway to load this up without losing data?
This isn't rooted and there's no super simple way to root it, right?

Ok. So which one of you is correct?
And what good is a backup without root ability to restore the backup?
Last time I asked about the wipe, a couple of people confidently said that using ODIN ALWAYS wipes data. I am pretty sure that I upgraded to the current stock ROM using ODIN without a wipe, plus have updated my Vibrant a few times via ODIN without a wipe.
So what's really correct here?

My skyrocket has only had crazy fc's once but seems like some are more susceptible to the fc's more than others. Wgich leads back to a subpar version of cwm...if running this script before flashing prevents crazy fc's, then it's a pretty big deal for our device. Mostly as a supplement to a cwm that requires wiping all partitions 3 times each in HOPES of a clean wipe.

Can this script be added to the CWM touch version that was created. It seems that the CWM touch still has the same problem of not completely wiping data from the SkyRocket. If this script were to be incorporated into it, it might solve the CWM "wipe" problem?

That's the first I've heard this. I have the latest cwm touch and wrong dates show. Actually I keep seeing people use RM and the recovery isn't flashing right.
Sent from my S3 running Eclipse 2.1
same me
Same me as well,:crying:
I thought that was normal since those numbers are no where near a type of date, I just rename it once booted into ROM.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using XDA Premium App
i suffering same issue too

Install rom manager from the market and flash the latest recovery through that. Walla, they're back to normal. Only fixable by Samsung or vzw? Wtf do people get this stuff? This question gets asked every other day and there are STILL people who think its some unsolvable bug.

That's incorrect. The date issue is still there regardless of how it's flashed in. Some people have reported issues with restoring after renaming. Consensus seams to be if you keep the default cwm assigned name and add your own to the end of it without any spaces, any reported issues dissappear.
Boom! Jellybomb biatch!
annoying for sure. I just rename the moment I am done and booted back up.
TWRP date is also wrong but you can rename them anything you want at time backup.
The guy meant backup FROM RM, it allows you to rename the backup file before it gets created, then reboots into recovery and creates the backup.
please try to search for your problem before posting... I'm typically the last to complain about that, but geez us...

TWRP does everything rom manager does except download roms which have been seen to cause bricks. Backups are named before creation also but already booted into recovery. One stop shop. Easier wipe.

I got to jump on that one of these days to see what all the fuss is about, I'm just loving cwm touch too much! I assume when changing, your existing nandroids will become useless, so would make sense to copy onto your cpu incase they are needed down the road...?
