[Q] [Security Advisory] MS KB 2524375 re fraudulent digital certificates - General Questions and Answers

MS has released patches for Windows Phone 7 & Windows Mobile 6.X to revoke fraudulent digital certificates.
https://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/advisory/2524375.mspx
Windows Phone 7 should update automatically (I think). Windows Mobile 6.X can be updated below. Not positive if the patch will or should work for WM 6.5:

So, can one of you gurus confirm if all WM 6.X & WP 7 users should apply this? Also, is this something chefs should start cooking into ROMs?

...the migration to Windows Vista is largely in progress and Windows XP a thing of the past. It is time to wake up!
migration to vista can only be for beta users, escro code only hit oem's on 1st of November.
RTM is available to oem on 8th Nov....
So there cannot be migration as it's not released yet!

Beeing a VOX owner i`m wondering...
Supported XDA Devices for this new OS. Any guesses?
What are the implications of this? What new software will arise of this orwill this merely be greater support to crippled WM6 devices (smartphones) as opposed to their more network friendly PPC counterparts?
LEMME KNOW!
windows mobile is based on win CE
the current wm6 is based on ce5.2
the upcomming wm7 will be based on ce6 or maybe the new ce6 r2
ce itself could never run on a windows mobile device as it's just the core

Information on Windows Mobile 6.5 leaked

Hi Guys,
This is just a heads up. According to msmobiles, windows mobile 6.5 is out there.
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/7803.html
World Exclusive: Windows Mobile 6.5 in pictures ...
While the arrival of Windows Mobile 6.5 for the year 2009 was announced here and there, then confirmed by Steve Balmer himself at the PDC 2008, Smartphone France is very pleased to present exclusive World 2 first screenshots of what should be Windows Mobile 6.5.
If for the moment there is no real information on the new version of Windows Mobile, what is happening is that Microsoft has finally decided to redesign the interface of the aging systems to try to catch up with his lags behind its competitors.
At visual we can see that Windows Mobile 6.5 is very close to what should be Windows Mobile 7. Does it mean that Microsoft has decided to completely revise their copy as regards WM7 and we propose intermediate version which should be initially WM7? In all what whatever happens in a case closely monitor ... although it will take many months before seeing a new version of Windows Mobile on the market.
MOD Edit: Revised thread title to avoid confusion.
Information about the OS has been released, the OS has not.

Upgrading my O2 Xda Mini S from Windows Mobile 5

I have an O2 Xda Mini S, running Windows Mobile 5.
I would like to upgrade the O/S to 6.5, without disrupting my phone's ability to make calls and without deleting my address/phone# book.
As I understand it, it is technically impossible to upgrade from 5 to 6.5 directly, but it is possibly to do so incrementally, from 5 to 6.0, from 6.0 to 6.1, and finally from 6.1 to 6.5.
Could someone here guide me through how I do this? Indeed, from where do I get the upgrades? I've looked for guidance on the O2 website, and found absolutely nothing!
Alternatively, would it be possible/sensible to install a Linux-based O/S to replace Windows Mobile completely?

Will Winmo 6.X apps run on Windows Mobile 7?

Probably. I use applications made for Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5, and both work fine. Windows CE is backwards compatible for the most part, so things that worked on CE 4.2 (WM 2003) and 3.0 (PocketPC 2002) probably work on 5.2 (all 6.x builds of WM). I don't know what CE version WM7 will run, probably CE 6.x.
