I've noticed that a lot of custom roms also have a lot of extras and mods that can be added to the rom.
My question is how do you flash those, is the process exactly the same as flashing a rom?
For example cleardroid has an optional modpack, do I just use cwm to flash the modpack just like I would a rom?
Yes it is...If it doesn't work, you can mount \system first, then flash and you should be gold.

A few questions as this is all new to me.
Do all ROMS require you to flash a new kernal?
Do you flash a kernal the same way as you flash a radio? (PD98IMG File and Hboot?)
I appreciate the input...
ROMS should and typically will come with the recommended kernel, however, some kernels do work that aren't the packaged one. Always be careful when flashing a new one (backup, backup, backup!) because sometime they don't always get along with the ROM you have running.
Also, most of them should be flashable .zips that can be ran through CWM.
At least in my experience with various kernels
Hope this helped!
Kernels are included with every rom I have ever tried, and if you want to use a different kernel than the one in the rom, you have to make sure that is compatible. A good rule of thumb is if it a sense based rom (custom user interface that comes stock on the inspire) you have to use a sense based kernel. If it is a ASOP rom (Android Open Source Project, like Cyanogenmod 7, or MUIU) you must use a ASOP kernel. They will specify in the OP. And I have never heard of flashing them through HBOOT, or FASTBOOT. In my experience it is always through CWM recovery, and you flash them just as you would a rom, theme, or anything else. Move the .zip file to the root of your SD, choose install zip from sd card, scroll down to choose zip from sdcard, then choose the file. When it is done hit back and then reboot. Easy Peezy.

kernal == kernel
Most users will flash kernels through clockwork like a rom. I flash them through fastboot, you can fastboot flash zimage(or boot), or fastboot boot zimage , which lets you boot the kernel before actually writing it, fastboot flashing requires eng s-off, which you probably don't have or need
I know a while back when i installed cm7 on my vibrant i had to do a lot of steps with clrad and flashing kernels one at a time... if i install with "rom manager" do i need to do any other step? does it change the kernel and everything for me already???
All ROMs have Kernels, otherwise they wouldn't work. If you want CM7 you can flash the latest Nightly using Rom Manager and aside from selecting to flash the gapps package too, there's no need to flash anything else.
Custom Kernels can be flashed from Recovery after the fact if you feel the need to try them.
I'd like to remove the trinity Kernel for JellyBean. I enjoy it's overclock but I hate it when my phone just randomly reboots. Is there a way to remove it. I have created a backup before I flashed it, but I'd like to remove it without having to restore to that backup.
Thanks
flash your rom without wiping, then flash gapps

I should have mentioned, I'm running stock. No custom rom installed
Just flash a different custom kernel or the stock kernel. If you want a different custom kernel, and you want something stockish, you wan try SimpleKernel or thalamus kernel. As for the stock, I think you can find a flashable zip somewhere here in the NS forum.
Sorry if this has already been asked before. If you already have a custom ROM with stock kernel, and now you want to install a custom kernel, would you just boot into custom recovery then flash it on top of the existing ROM just like flashing Gapps? or do you have to wipe the ROM first, flash the kernel then ROM after that? Here's another question. Custom ROMs come with their own kernels, would my custom kernel get overwritten when I upgrade my ROM to a newer version (for example from cm10.1-20130226 to cm10.1-20130309?

Correct just copy the kernel to your sdcard clear cache in recovery and flash away.
I tried your ROM and rebooted twice and still looking good. Hope it'll still survive after the 3rd reboot. However, I notice some delay before the first ring back, probably due to weak signal in my area. I'll try more at different locations in the next few days to see how it goes. I really appreciate your contribution and all coders with TeamChopsticks who have nailed down the root cause of audio loss in the cm10.1 nightlies for skyrocket.
I'm having problem with Carbon ROM. My video doesn't playback I only see purple screen. However taking pictures is fine but both the qualities are low. I already set to HD. I flashed AOKP from toyes and REVOLT they had no problems with the video.

There's no official ICS/JB for this device, so yes, if you want ICS/JB you need to flash a custom ROM. You don't need to flash inspiremod, but if you do, you need to flash it after you flash the ROM, not before. It basically makes a few minor changes to convert a ROM from a Desire HD ROM to an Inspire 4G ROM, like branding and sound files. If you don't have a recovery and you're already rooted, you need to install one. You can install them from apps, choose the one you want: ROM Manager for ClockworkMod, 4ext updater (apk from the 4ext website) for 4ext, GooManager for TWRP. Then once you have a recovery, full wipe (system, data, cache) from recovery, then flash the ROM, then gapps if you need it (check the OP of the ROM thread), then inspiremod if you want it.
I should also note that all this information is easily found by searching on the forums. I'm just typing it all out because I'm feeling generous this morning. But here on XDA you are generally expected to search and read and learn for yourself.
