[Q] 119.99 at Amazon.com - T-Mobile LG G2x

Just wondering if there were any downsides to upgrading to the G2x through amazon.com for $119.99? You can do an individual or family line upgrade.

I just bought from Amazon and returned it. The upside is that the price is low and you have a 30 day return period. The down side, IMO, is that you have to hold on to the line and phone for 6 months or pay $250. This meant that, in the next 6 months, I couldn't give my wife the G2x for her line and then get the Sensation, SGII, etc. for my line without being charged the $250. I could deal with breaking the contract if I had / wanted to do so, however, I didn't want any additional financial constraints. Just my .02¢

how would Amazon know that you gave it to your wife? And how would they know you are using a different device on your line if you just do a sim switch? do they have access to that carrier data?

also, does this mean you can upgrade phones every 6 months from amazon for their subsidized price?

I don't believe so! They still have to go through T-Mobile to upgrade or activate new line!
So if you don't quality or you already did an upgrade then I'm guessing they'll turn you down!
But I could be wrong, I guess someone needs to read the fine print and let us know!

This is incorrect. Amazon only stipulates that the line upgraded/opened/added must remain active for at least 6 months. There is absolutely nothing stopping you from swapping phones on that line, you just can't close the line/account before the 6 months are up. Unless you plan on jumping ship from Tmo before then, this shouldn't be a problem.
I used amazon for my G2X and their service is awesome. First phone suffered from reboots/lockups so I called them and they overnighted a replacement with return postage for the broken phone at absolutely no charge and no questions asked.

Well, that's not what I was told by the Amazon representative. I flat out told them that is what I was going to do...swap phones on that line and they told me I could not do it without being charged. Whether or not the rep was right or wrong, I do not know. I just knew that there was a high probability that I would be either swapping phones and/or bailing on the contract so I didn't want to get caught with any extra fees.
As for the service from Amazon, they were great and very responsive.

Here's the exact verbiage from Amazon's site:
When you purchase your device with service from AmazonWireless.com, we automatically pass along an instant discount from the carrier to you. This discount has been provided to you based on your agreement to (a) activate a new, or extend an existing, line of service for this device with the carrier, and (b) maintain this service in good standing for a minimum of 181 consecutive days. If you do not activate or extend a line of service in connection with this device, or if your service is canceled/disconnected before 181 consecutive days, AmazonWireless.com will charge you $250 per device, plus applicable taxes.

Charge and the 9/30 date

Couple weeks back when a vzw leaked pic popped up showing the release date of the bionic it also showed other phones and dates, the charge had a 9/30 date. Would that be the date when the price drops or an EoL date? Im thinking of make the switch to the charge in the coming weeks
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
Doubt is the EOL... Probably discounted pricing. If the Charge is still 299 probably gonna drop to 199. But thats a guess
Yeah, it's most likely a price drop date, but without context, there's no way to tell until the day actually happens next week.
Maybe we'll get lucky and it's the date of the 2.3 OTA rollout.

They don't list software updates that specifically on those sheets. You'd see something maybe as specific as a month, or a quarter.
Could be wrong but I remember seeing the charge for 199 at best buy.

I don't know why anybody would buy a phone directly from Verizon when AmazonWireless almost *always* has a much lower price.
Droid Charge at Verizon: $299.99 with a 2-year contract.
Droid Charge at Amazon: $0.01 (yes, one penny) with a 2-year contract for new lines, $119.99 with a 2-year contract for individual account upgrades, $179.99 for family account upgrades.
Or another example, to illustrate that this isn't just the case with older phones; Droid Bionic at Verizon: $299.99.
Droid Bionic at Amazon: $149.99 new customer, $219.99 solo upgrade, $249.99 family upgrade.
No matter how you slice it, them's good savings over Verizon's price.

Look at the terms of the 2-yr agreement for that price The best place to buy phones on contract is Costco that I've seen. You don't get a discount, but their return policy is the best I've seen, and you almost always get a lot of "free" accessories to go with your new phone.
Agreed about AmazonWireless. This Charge in my hand cost me 1 cent.
There are a couple of hitches though, nothing terrible, but worth noting. The fine print on the purchase agreements states that should you fail to keep your (Verizon, in my case) account active and in good standing for six months, you may be subject to being charged the FULL Retail price for your device. OK, you either opened a new 2 year contract as you purchased the phone, or you added a line...either way your in for 2 years, just pay your bills. But if you think about it, that ~$250 would be on top of the ETF from Verizon!
The other note is anecdotal... I recently got a 1 cent deal for the Sony XPeria Play for my wife, added a line to do it, no problem. One month later, to the day, she and I got fed up with the charging issues that phone is known for, so I called AmazonWireless for a replacement. The customer service rep was very helpful, but she did mention that I just made the cutoff of 30 days for free replacements. I didn't ask, but I wonder what would happen if the phone developed an issue 45 days after purchase? Isn't Verizon much more accommodating with this? Or am I wrong?

Correct Verizon has a 1 year warranty period with all phones bought from them, as well as extended warranty options available for $1.99 a month

Even IF Amazon wouldn't replace a broken phone (that wasn't your fault and falls under warranty) you could take it up to Verizon, and they would still honor the 1 year warranty. Even though you didn't buy the phone from Verizon. I've done it with phones I bought from "other stores."

shattered my S4 screen

basically as the title says... I dropped my phone and shattered the screen at the top and bottom corners... it's still operable at the moment but it'll get worse over time. I have an upgrade available on my account that I can use or I could enter the Verizon edge program... I really don't know what i should do. it's obvious the edge program is only useful if I upgrade every ~12 months and I have a tendency to switch phones quite often but with a newborn son I may lose interest in upgrading/getting new phones so much... I'm mostly looking at the HTC M8 only because ive had the galaxy for a while and im ready for something other than touchwiz. use upgrade, pay 250 and sign another 2 year contract or enter Verizon edge program and pay nothing now and be able to upgrade again in a year... opinions?
Edge is regarded by most as a waste of money. you're always going to pay at least half of full retail, which is always more than the 2 yr contract price.
but more importantly, think about this: Maybe Edge is exactly what you want. Maybe you'll do it for the next 5 years and go thru 5 awesome phones. and then maybe then you'll want to save money and switch to another carrier. Hey, you're not on contract. go ahead. but if you get a high end device that's $700 full, and it's been 1 year, you've paid $350 so far, and you're still gonna owe $350 to cut loose, where as if you went the 2 year contract, you maybe for the phone paid $99 (instead of $350 over 12 months), and the ETF with Verizon will only be $230 so basically, you save, after the ETF, around $370. So Edge is great... for people who plan to keep doing edge/jump/whatever every year until they die, never changing carriers. Oh, and if a carrier (Tmobile) offers to buy out your contract and pay your ETF, guess what? an installment plan is not a termination fee. you're on your own, buddy. I'm not trying to sound overly dramatic, but that's the math, man.
finally, Edge is NOT "pay nothing up front". you pay tax on the full price, and you pay the first month's payment up front as well. since you're always billed one month in advance with Verizon, if you didn't pay the first month in store, you next bill would be 2 months worth of payments. Carriers take the first month up front to prevent bill-shock
so that's my feelings towards edge (I used to work in the Cell industry. quit late last year.). As for the M8, this phone rules. why? there's 1000 reviews already out there, so I'm not gonna bother with the why.
Well said .. covers everything.

soooooo..... get the m8 but use my available upgrade? lol...
I couldn't be happier with my m8.. I had the s4 previously the only down side is cropping photos with this camera it can be pixely. If you do get the m8 I recommend that you really look at where the speaker grill on top and bottom meet the screen. make sure it's flush this may be just me being picky but I have seen a few that were slightly raised above the screen and it kind of sticks out. Play some music and make sure the sound isn't distorted at a higher volume. I had a couple friends that noticed some static but had to make the trip back for an exchange. There are a number of threads about build quality you can read. sorry to hear your screen shattered on your s4.
Don't know where you get $250 from (unless you're not up for a new device), the M8 is $99 with 2 year contract.

I don't know where you get that he is going to pay $350 for the phone on edge the first year.
I just got on the early edge upgrade and they offer a $10/month discount off of the $25/month price.(That is for the 3 gig plan. Discount is steeper on higher data plans) So I am paying $15/month for my M8. I will have paid $180 for the first year. And then I can get a new phone.
BB has them for $199 on 2 year contract.
I know some think I am wasting my money with edge, but I will be able to get a new phone in a year.
Tell me how you can do that cheaper by buying?

I'm not disagreeing with you, as EDGE is fine for people who upgrade a lot, and really isn't really that much of a waste of money as some make it seem, but I wouldn't say you are paying $15/mo for the M8. It's more like you're paying $25/mo for it, but you get $10 off per month from the bill itself.
Just taking in to account that they discount your bill by ~$10 (depending on data, again) even on More Everything plans, they're just trying to compensate for the fact that you are not in a contract, and thus, no subsidy.
I'm sure some reps are just saying, "and you get $10 off the monthly payment for being on EDGE" to entice people to sign up. If you were really paying $15/mo, it would take longer for you to pay off the phone... of course, I could be completely wrong, as I don't see the bill in front of me to see the break down, but that's just what I assume the breakdown is.
----
I feel like with EDGE it's almost a wash when comparing it with a 2-Year contract, though you can come out slightly ahead with a contract. If you upgrade a lot, and assuming a single line, then you can get a "cheap" phone for the first year, the sell it for ~ $250-300 (or more, depending on device of course), then the next flagship you pick up second hand from someone (saving tax at least). If you keep reselling in $300 range, it's almost the same thing as EDGE (paying off half to "edge up"). With EDGE, however, you save yourself the hassle of re-selling/shipping/etc.

I wasn't aware of the $10 EDGE plan discount. I left before that started, I guess.
As for where to buy the phone, Amazon or Costco are generally the best prices, but sometimes bestbuy has a good sale going on. ($100 blue M7 the day it was released), I would never buy a phone from Verizon's corporate store or website.
The Verizon phone is unlocked by default. there is nothing the user needs to do. it's Verizon policy (yay!). As for the OTA upgrade, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter, from what I've read, but I would just root the phone and flash the rooted update, anyway, to be safe.

I think the M8 should be good for a long time, as most devices are, we just tend to want to upgrade/switch devices when the new one comes out =\
If you don't want to use up the upgrade, have you tried looking on Swappa for a used device?
** Factory unlock meaning for the SIM, you will still need to root and S-OFF on your own. Just to clarify haha

All Verizon LTE phones are factory unlocked when you buy them. Been this way for a couple of years.
about 2 years, now. I think Verizon had to hit a certain population coverage percentage for LTE and it became mandatory by some FCC rule when they purchased the spectrum. sad that other carriers aren't also tied to this.

Ohh. Yeah I was referring to the bootloader not sim lol. I actually looked at swappA last night. Good deals but I'd rather use the upgrade as opposed to that site. I really just need to decide if I want to keep the phone for two years or buy it with the intent to upgrade again in ~1 year.

i believe amazon has it for 99 with 2 year, and OTA is safe, i temprooted -> soff'd; took OTA then xposed/customized.

I love T-Mobile

So last week was not good for me, I damaged my spen. My bad luck didn't end there. 3 days ago I spilt water which water on it and as a result was water damaged. So I am going through all my options, I didn't get insurance (it wasn't offered, I probably would have declined anyways) I was contemplating buying another one through eBay using PayPal credit. I was contemplating sending it in to Samsung for out of warranty repair. I then thought to call T-Mobile. I was honest that my phone is water damaged and know that it voids warranty. They put me on hold, spoke with supervisor. They added insurance and ordered another phone. I am still responsible for $250 which will be on my next bill. I get to keep the damaged phone ( I asked) so what that means Is that I get to sell the phone and pay off the deposit T-Mobile is asking for.
I have been with T-Mobile for 3 years and bought many phones through them. Doing what they did makes me feel appreciated as a customer. Life happens, but it's nice when stuff like this happens.

Great experience man!
I've been with T-MO 13, maybe 14 years, and there's a reason. Always been treated more than fair and sometimes a little too good. Glad to hear they're keeping it up.
Have to agree. Over the last 9 years it's been a fantastic experience, great pricing, and "above & beyond" customer service. I don't ever see myself leaving T-Mo unless some crappy merger ruins it all.
Me too 14+ years.
You may be able to keep the old phone, but it will more than likely have the IMEI blacklisted. Standard procedure for insurance replacements. If that's the case, you can sell it over at Swappa Boneyard for a quick buck.

So... You can add insurance within 14 days of a new phone purchase. You are clearly within that timeframe from the note 5 release. No device verification is required as you can do it over the phone. Im not surprised at all as assurion absorbs the cost, not tmobile. Good for you though. Glad you didn't end up eating that 700 comedy of errors.

Lost my job and i just got my phone syolen.. t-mobile offered to get me a new and bill to account.. i got the note 4 diwn payment was 380 i believe once my bill came i still had no job i calked and explain the situation.. they said pay aleast 50$ so we can keep your service avtive till next bill. So now i have 380 plus tax plus another 13 for first month than my normal bill. I was up over 500 for my next bill. I told them tbh idk if i can afford it. Maybe ill mail yhe phone back... long story short. My next month bill was only 80$ i check online ant it said i only owed 300$ for the note 4.. so i dint have to pay the down payment. that's why i would never leave tmbile

I think they also gave you the replacement of your Note 5 cause it's been out for less than a month, so they would have only made 8 dollars off of you if you did get the insurance. They lose out on 8 bucks for the first month, but now you'll have a new phone, an insurance plan for the remainder of the time you have that phone, and they have a happy customer.
They wouldn't risk losing a monthly paying customer over 8 dollars. Nice story, I unfortunately don't have one yet, just came to read.
I could always cancel insurance but I am probably not going to at least not for a little while.
I was wondering will the old note Imei be blocked? Technically T-Mobile isn't doing insurance claim, they are ordering me a brand new note and giving me 450 credit leaving me responsible for $250.

Tmobile has been very good to me, never hesitating to credit my account for things. My Z1s was stolen after I got my Z3, before I could ship it back to Tmobile. I couldn't afford to spend the money to have the insurance replace it, I wound up having to pay for it. I got to a point where I could afford the insurance, but I was out of the 90 day window. Still had like 250 due on it, and they credited my account to make up the difference between the insurance replacement and the balance due. Was amazing.
i work for t-mobile and ill be honest. if you have to send the damaged phone back then they kinda ripped you off and ill tell you why.
you most likely are on JUMP! On Demand which is a lease program so "technically" the phone isnt yours yet. The device hasnt been out for 14 days yet and as someone earlier stated you have the option to add insurance within 14 days of purchasing the device. Insurance is $8 a month. On the Jump On Demand program you can upgrade the device 3x per 12 month period. If you go to do an upgrade you have to trade in your current device and switch it out. But if there is any damage they charge you 250 but still let you upgrade. With insurance they only charge you 175 and you just send them the damaged phone back after they send you the replacement. But your supposedly not suppose to be able to upgrade to the same device. So i honestly dont know lol. Either way you could have just added the device protection and just paid the company 175 and had a phone sent to you in 24 hours.

I have a question for you, I just got the Note 5 and I told the sales guy I wanted to go from jump to jump on demand but I'm not sure if he actually switched me. Is there some where on MyTmobile that will tell me if I have jump on demand or do I need to go in to a store or call? Thanks!

I was told I could not make a claim although I am sure Asurian would be none the wiser. I am happy with the outcome. Even if it was $50 extra. Plus I still get to keep the old phone which should take care of the money I owe anyways.
I am thinking of sending it in to Samsung and see what they quote me for. If they want $300 and they send me back a brand new phone I can flip it for double.
And I am expecting my phone tomorrow. They ordered next day delivery via UPS. Either way I am happy

that sounds cool then if you dont have to send the phone back. that means you still would have all 3 upgrades and a new device for 250 which isnt bad at all ... good job lol

you should be able to call customer care but from everyday experience they usually dont know what they are talking about unless theyve been around for a while. They read scripts and guidelines where as a sales rep in store deals with everyday problems first hand. but to switch from jump to JOD you have to just basically start your payment plan over. you cant just switch it or jump into JOD.
i.e., if you had a note 4 and owed 500 on it. and wanted to get the note 5 on JOD , you would have to pay off the entire 500 and just keep your note 4 on your account monthly and be paying for 2 phones. Or you can trade in your note 4 and lets say they give u 300 for it . you would stil be responsible for 200 of the note 4 but you would be in the new JOD program where u can change the phone 3x in 12 months regardless of how much you owe, where as with JUMP you have to have the 10 insurance feature and pay half your phone everytime you want to upgrade
I'm on Team T-Mobile. First service providers that I'm pleased with.
* Coverage and data speed in my city is A-
* Jump 1.0
* 2 Unlimited Un-Throttled 4G LTE Plan for $100
* On a business account I call them for whatever, I've never waited more than 1 min to speak with an American customer service rep
* SIM Unlock on a brand new financed phone! SIM Unlocked my GS6 and Note 5 on Day 1
I'm glad to hear this. I work for a sprint dealer (worst carrier out of the 4, I'm well aware. Lol) and their customer service are a bunch of idiots (I only know because I have to talk to them for customers all the time). Terrible experience most of the time with their care. AT&T has always had great customer service but I don't do phone payments on devices I can't use how I want to use them. (Locked bootloaders). Just switched to tmobile this month. The service has already been great. Hopeful that it stays that way. Thanks for sharing your story. And try not to damage your phone again. Lol maybe just keep the insurance this time around.

Help exchanging Pixel to Best Buy!

Really hope someone has info on this. I purchased this phone online through best buys website on black friday to take advantage of the $10 a month. I know there was a lot of debating on here about if this deal was like the Verizon deal with the bill credits or just a flat out $10 a month. I saw multiple posts on here saying after people received their phone from best buy they were able to call Verizon and pay off the $240 meaning it was a straight $10 a month deal.
So I am having some issues with my phone and need to exchange it for another one. It took forever but I figured out that a best buy an hour away from me has one in stock. I was able to get in touch with their mobile department inside that store and he confirmed they have one and can set it aside for me since I am exchanging. I did not want to go to my local best buy and have them order one and take the chance that it came with 7.1.1 already installed because I would be screwed and not be able to unlock the bootloader
Before we got off the phone he mentioned something about processing the return when I got there so I asked what he meant.. I asked if they had to process the return and do the entire order over again and he said yes... so then I asked how that would work since I bought the phone during the $10 black friday deal. He was not sure and put me on hold. Then he came back and took my name and phone number and said he had to call Verizon and ask them how to proceed... *
Now I am VERY worried about exchanging it. What if somehow since they are messing with my plan that I end up with the Verizon bill credits compared to the straight $10 a month deal where I can pay it off anytime I want.. No one at any best buy I've talked with even knew the difference about their deal to begin with so trying to explain this all to someone and correct it after the fact would be nearly impossible.. They would simply tell me I was wrong and the payments were through Verizon and that their deal was the exact same
So does anyone have any info on how the exchange should work? I don't understand why i can't simply go in and they swap it out.. not messing up anything with my contract..*
Also if they have to activate it in the store then I don't even wanna do it because I need to take the SIM card out... skip through setup assistant and the software update.. the unlock the bootloader before installing the 7.1.1 upgrade. What a MESS!*
I bought an iPhone 7 at Best Buy, tried to port from a Verizon MVNO to Verizon, and then ended up returning the phone for a Pixel, so I've seen some of their workings first-hand. In the end their mistakes worked in my favor, but it all literally took hours, so I'd recommend planning on being patient until they can resolve your issue to your satisfaction. I would just go in and be very clear that I wanted to exchange the phone for a working device and keep the same outstanding device payment as I currently have. If after talking to a few people they couldn't help me do that, I'd try a second store, since I've seen different service at various stores. I figure they can eventually be able to help you, but based on my Best Buy phone experiences, I'd just expect to be patient and plan on possibly being there for a couple hours.
Just to address your last paragraph, I don't believe Best Buy will sell you a phone unactivated. I purchase phones on a weekly basis; sometimes from Best Buy, sometimes from other retailers, and mostly from Verizon. Only Verizon corporate stores would let me walk out with an unopened box. I'm a VZW "Red Carpet" customer that they would just scan the UPCs of the MEID and SIM on the outside of the box, and send me away. The whole transaction takes less than 5 minutes. On the other hand, BB takes a good 20 minutes to go through the agreement and activation.

Don't forget you have 30 day (or is it 20 now) buyer remorse. You can return the phone and get your money back.

I bought two iPhone 7's after Black Friday when Best Buy had them on sale for $1 with two year contract. One for my son, and one for resale since I was due for an upgrade on my line which had my new Pixel on it which was purchased through Google.
Both phones left the store unopened and obviously unactivated. Came with the SIM card on the little credit card still not punched out.

Rarely that I sell them, mostly I use them for different coding projects, then I give them to employees. Or I sell them back to carriers on the device recycling program. Old phones that aren't worth much, I save those to trade in for new phones when they run specials. For example, Verizon right now would give $200 for an iPhone 4 if you get the Pixel.

For new phones, SIM cards don't normally come on those cardboard business cards any more. Apple, Samsung, LG, etc, their phones come with SIMs already in the phones. The ICCID is on the box. The clerk scans both the MEID and ICCID before they open the box.

Back to $699 at BestBuy

Hope the price comes back down...
I am so glad I pulled the trigger when I did...
Running the Oreo beta and liking it...
Still $499 on Essential website. Pricing Error? Ordered my yesterday from Amazon for $449, looking forward to it.
Either a misprint, or Best Buy is doing what they did with the iPhone X and charging $200 more and pretending that it is because they have them in stock, and that if people are willing to pay it, why not charge more? They took some heat over that last month but apparently its part of their business model to jack up the prices of high demand items.

Ah good ol' Best Buy. Anything you can do to try and keep the business afloat.
It's still $450 on Amazon. I saw the price jump and nope'd all the way over to Swappa and got a new in box model for 335, plus 60 for a protection plan! Score!
I just finally bought one today at Best Buy. The sign in store said $449, but it rang up as $699. The salesperson changed it back to $449 for me.
Yeah, they're either gouging again or it's an error. Still officially $499 straight from the source and $449 at Amazon and even cheaper at a few other places. So avoid Best Buy.
Now on Amazon it's $499.99 for Black Moon and $594.55 for Pure White. Looks like I got mine just in time.
First I was having trouble deciding between pixel 2XL and the Essential. After researching I was going to pull the trigger on the Essential as Best Buy had them in stock and if I could not like it in 14bdays I could return it. That way I could give it an honest try. But when I went to Best Buy...they wanted 699.99 when I got to regestered. Showed them Amazon’s and Essential prices and tried to explain to them a few weeks ago Best Buy dropped price to 499.99. They would not price match because it is Black Friday. So I walked away empty handed and NOT happy.

Did you see the Sprint deal? It's still going on line, ends up costing like 160 bucks and you can immediately after unlock close the account, took me 4 days, I got 3 essential phones for 160 a piece.
Thanks! Will these work on Verizon too?

Yeah it's pretty clear in the contract, you are not singing a contract with a length agreement, you can break it whenever, it's 5 a month for 18 months and a 30 dollar option to buy, using it in at&t now, took them just a few days to unlock it after I paid it off, I did the payoff in the Sprint online chat and had them verify I owned the phone and had no obligation to Sprint, they will email you a copy of the chat transcript, so should they ever give me a hard time I have it all in writing, I bought 3 this way, so I have a backup and gave one to my mom lol

As for repercussions, it all depends on what you are willing to put up with. The deal itself is pretty straight forward, in that you sign up for an 18 month lease ($5 per month for 18 months), with the option to return the phone at the end of the 18th months, or decide to keep it and pay the remaining 6 months (Purchase Option Price, or something like that, I don't remember the exact wording). The nice thing about the lease, is there are no restrictions on you paying it off the first day, which basically costs you: $25 initial purchase price at checkout + $5*18 ($90) + $5*6 ($30 POP) + taxes. So $145 + taxes. Before you actually checkout and hit the submit button, you will be provided a copy of the Flex Lease agreement that breaks down the monthly payment, total payments, and the POP (purchase option price). So potentially the cheapest you could get the phone for, without taking into account any other costs (see below) is $145 + tax.
Of course, there could also be some additional costs to take into consideration, such an activation fee ($30). If you do this in a store that has some stock, you generally will have to pay the $30, though Sprint may still be waiving this fee if you order online. A shipping fee of ($10), i.e. if there are no local stores that have stock of the phone for local pickup (which eliminates the $10), and potentially 50 days of service if you phone isn't unlocked after you pay it off initially. For most folks taking advantage of this deal, it seems that as soon as you pay off the phone/lease (like the first day you get the phone and activate it), your phone will be unlocked eligible about 2 - 3 days later. You can check this by performing a UICC unlock request within the about phone, ODAM settings (again, can't remember if this is the exact menu title, but if you look through the first page of the slickdeals thread, it breaks it all down). However, there is no guarantee that it will be unlocked during the first couple of days after payoff, so it is best to go in with the understanding that it could take 50 days before Sprint will officially unlock your paid off phone, so assume $80 for phone service for 2 months. (The $45/2gb plan, with $5 discount with autopay)
So, a top end price of the phone could potentially be: 145 + tax + 30 activation + 10 shipping + 80 service cost. (or approx. $265 + tax)
Finally, one thing people don't talk about, is in order to sign up for Sprint and add a line (if you are a new customer), is that they will perform a credit check. If you were planning on getting a loan, or in the process of buying a house, etc., I would avoid getting any credit pulls at this time. (But that is just me ).
With that in mind, you have to decide is a high end price of $265 + tax a good enough deal. Personally, I still think it is a great deal for this phone.
What most people appear to be doing, who have no interest in actually using Sprint, is paying off the device as soon as possible, getting it unlocked in 2 - 3 days after payoff, and then canceling service, all within the 14 day satisfaction window. Some folks say Sprint will prorate the service fee, others say you will have to pay at least 1 months service. The deal is has only been out for a couple of weeks, so there isn't a 100% understanding of this yet.
i spoke to my old buddy who i used to work with at sprint 10 years ago. he told me that they will charge you the rest of the balance if you do it that way

Agreed, it is all clearly written down in the lease agreement / purchase option price on how much one will/can spend on the phone. Sprint's goal with this promo, I suspect, is to obtain as many subscribers as possible. I am sure the planned for a percentage of these new subscribers leaving and paying off the device.
