[Script] App2sd - Galaxy 3 Android Development

Hello to all. It is time to publish my app2sd Scripts because many people wants them
What is App2sd?
App2sd is a utility which automatically moves some/all your data partition to your ext sd partition. So, your internal space is partially/not used
Which app2sd version should i choose?
As you can see, there are 3 versions: App2sd-v1, App2sd-v2 & App2sd-v3.
Differences in versions
App2sd-v1: It is the normal app2sd script. This script moves your /data/app/ & /data/log/ to your sdcard's ext partition. It is very fast but your real internal space will be full if you install many apps. This version is not recommended.
App2sd-v2: It is an enchanced version of app2sd, which moves /data/app/, /data/log/ & /data/dalvik-cache/ to your sdcard's ext partition. It is fast and you can install many apps until your internal memory reaches 0mb.. Is is recommended for sdcards class2 - class4.
App2sd-v3: It is an ultra enchanced version of app2sd, which is like data2sd, but you won't have so many lag like data2sd. App2sd-v3 moves /data/app/, /data/log/, /data/dalvik-cache/ & /data/data/ to your sdcard's ext partition. Your internal memory won't be used unless you do install so many apps and your sdcard's partition get full! SDcard class6+ is highly recommended!
Conlusion: If you have class2 or class4 sdcard use App2sd-v2. If you have class6 sdcard use App2sd-v3.
Requirements
You must have a kernel which supports init.d & ext4, i recommend fugumod, it is the best. And you must have an ext partition in your sdcard. Ext4 is recommended. And last thing... You need android 2.2.
How do i check my sdcard's class?
Remove your sdcard from your phone and check if you see a circle with a number. If your dont see anything, you may have a class2 sdcard.
How to partition my sdcard?
Download MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 6.0. But make a backup before
How to install the script?
Take a backup with titanium. Download it from attachments and decompress it to your sd. You can either adb push this script in /system/etc/init.d/ or copy it with root eplorer to /system/etc/init.d/. Type the commands:
adb shell (adb only)
su
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/stl6 /system
chmod 777 /system/etc/init.d/*
chown 0.0 /system/etc/init.d/*
Then reboot in recovery and do a wipe data/factory reset. All your data will be wiped. From now on some/all of your data (depends on the script version) will be moved to your sd automatically. Before you restore your apps with titanium, go in titanium preferences and select to force restore apps to internal memory. Don't move apps to external!!
Why i see only 200mb as internal?
App2sd is invisible You can check your sdcard's ext partition in Titanium Backup.
-Tip
For speeding up your sdcard reading speed you can install this script too. This will maybe cause lag to your videos...

Give me feedback if you use the script. Tell me which version you installed and what type sdclass you have

With Mizch's script or app2sd-v3, your phone will lag too much! Use app2sd-v2.

is this script better than link2sd??? i am a noob with adb!!

I have installed version 2. If i want to try, should i do the following
1. Remove v2 from init.d
2. Paste new version
3. Give same commands
4. Wipe data/factory reset
Also with v2, i get 2 samsung logo's during boot

well if you want the full use of data2sd by ungaze then the first step is partition your sd card after you do that then i would suggest flashing a your rom fresh and whatever MODs you have after you have flashed all mods and your ROM {please reboot between each MOD} then finally flash ungazes data2sd if you did it right you will have a large performance boost and more space for apps for example i had a 16 gig sd card made 2560 mb partition and now after flashing data2sd i have 1.7 gigs of apps space and a quadrant score of 2300 so if you have questions then PM me

Hi all,
Currently I'm using CM7 and install ungaze data2sd on my phone. I already have ext2 file and my phone shows additional internal memory. I then install apps without any problem and once done, I try to reboot it. However, I found that those apps which installed earlier on were gone. Can anyone help me with this?
Addition, when I check the sd card, I found an d2sd folder and inside it have unknown files named error_0222120031, error_0222120039, error_0222120122 and error_0222120143. Can anyone help me with this?

I disagree ..
My suggestions -
1) use ungaze v5 (not v2)
2) wipe dalvick cache before flashing it..
It doesn't matter whether it's Fresh rom or not..
I have used ungaze with having more than 120mb worth apps previously

ONLY TESTED ON STOCK ROM AND DOOMKERNEL
Description:
App2sd has many advantages.App2sd is set on boot so it does not like link2sd.It will also work for Launcher, widget etc...because it set on boot.First it will move all Application from Internal Storage to EXT3.Then your Installing application will install on EXT3.So no more "Not enough space in Internal Storage." to install a apps.
Requirement:
Unlocked Bootloader
doomskernel from here for GSM
here for CDMA
Installation:
Recommended:
Note:First create a EXT2/EXT3/EXT4 partition in your sdcard using the built in sdcard partitioner from dooms kernel. or if you have windows from here
1.Download and copy to sdcard.
2.Install it via Recovery.
3.Reboot into android
4.Connect your phone to ADB and type as below:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
a2sd reinstall
Restart your device.
It will show a black screen after SE logo(Don't know why).
Remove battery and restart.
It will work.
You can see all application under /sd-ext/app.

Please Help
And thanks for this awesome tweak

I didn't get black screen either just use root explorer or something similar and you can see everything in the sd-ext folder

It just does not work. I have formatted my SD card with the tool posted. i have created a partition with 4.5 GB for FAT32 and a EXT3 with 2.9 GB for all via a USB card reader. My PC recognizes the SDHC card also but if I stick it in my phone it is not recognized. I get a message when I removed it.
what am I doing wrong?
Do you have the fat32 partition as the first primary partition on your card?
Sent from my R800a using XDA App
Yes but my error was that i took the EXT3 Partition as Logical and not as Primary,
so actually the result is, it is all working now!!

What is Hybrid2SD

Ok so I installed hercolubus ROM and after doing that i read him instructing how to enable Hybrid2SD...while on kyrillos also i read about the same but didn't care much but now i really wanna kno what it is..
M srry for asking such noob question but i tried searching everywhere...
Check the G3MOD thread. It should tell you there or just search the question because I know for a fact it has been asked many times. The answers are always on the forums. You just have to find them

Actually I'm using a class 2 SD card but my phone is just as fast with Hybrid data2sd on and with it off. To answer OP's question Hybrid data2sd is a way for you to get more space for apps I'm not sure how it works but it just does. To enable just make a partition using CWM and to check if it's working use Titanium backup it'll tell you how much free space you have.

I will try to explain in simple lang....
On android OS, users applications and data is stored in /data folder (partition) in internal memory. Since g3 have less memory, it has restrictions on how many apps you can install and blah blah...
So out greate developers do a trick to increase internal memory.
When we have partitioned SD card, there in new partition, they create a similar folder stucture of /data. and link internal memorys /data to point to sd card data folder. This link is similar to a shortcut. Android OS thinks that the /data folder is there in internal memory and it reads and writes to it but actually that data goes to sd-ext partition and thus the size of internal memory dose not increases as you install apps. This is Data2SD
/data has many folder...majorly for app (/data/app) and for dalvic cache (/data/data). If you are not mounting entire /data to sd-ext, but selectively mapping each folder you want to sd-ext, then this is called HybridData2SD. For ex, I prefer app dir (/data/app) to be mounted on sd-ext but not the cache (/data/data). Cache should be on phone as its accessed so much and makes my phone lag If i put it on sd-ext.
hope this clears the concept.
(Thanks to OP for giving me chance to write my 100th post)

Sure.
If you are on G3mod, things are made very simple using kmapp. Search XDA about it. its a application which will do it for you.
For fugumod, its quiet difficult....(you may need to create some files on sd card ot edit script in init.d)
Otherwises, use Link2SD application. its free, availabel on market. It will do task even on granular level - on each app level. You can select app and choose option 'create link', it will give you option to link app, cache, lib files. select app only. that's it. its my favorite currently.

Data2sd = Entire /data folder mapped to sd-ext. so every app you install, its apk will definitely go to sd-ext. Also /data/data folder (that is where user data is stored) and also davlic cache folder is automatilly mapped to sd-ext.
link2sd = Manually select which app's apk file ( and dex, lib also) to go to sd-ext. You have more control here, not every app goes to sd-ext.

data2sd will create shortcut to all..everything inside /data folder
for e.g. /data/app, /data/cache, /data/lib, etc
hybrid2sd is selecting what part of the app will reside in sdcard for e.g. /data/app (u don't want /data/lib and /data/cache,etc )
link2sd...is first of all an app...in this you can select a single app and then decide which folder will reside in sdcard for e.g. /data/app (u don't want /data/lib and /data/cache,etc )
basically link2sd is similar to hybrid2sd but its an app
Its all written up there

[Q] Help Me to Use Data2Ext in IcySnap v1.6 ROM (neko 95's ROM)

Hi....... :fingers-crossed:

I guess everyone here have known about the Great ROM called ICY SNAP (thanks to Neko for that such great ROM ). :good:
But i miss the tutorial how to use the Data2ext Feature on it ?
First of all.. Before using a data2ext we should have a partition on our SD-Card, isn'it ?
So that we can use that partition to use the Data2ext and move our app/data.
My question is :
1. How to create a Partition on my SD-Card with the safest way.
2. And after we create it, what should we do next ?
3. I read from the Icy Snap Thread notice, we may activate the Data2ext via Terminal Emulator Command. And after i do the 2 step above, may i just activate it through it ?
Thanks in Advance for your great Help and Answers. :victory:
Boot in recovery mode. Now select "Partition sd card", Next select Partition sd then set swap size= min 64MB(recommended by neko), Set ext-size= As you want and confirm thats it.
But backup your sd card before bpartitioning since it will be formatted during the process.

after partitioning sd card you need to do in android terminal a data2sd enable and a zipalign ( as neko provided in instructions ), after reboot I got 450mb free space on internal memory

SD card 2nd partition is not getting mounted

Hi Friends
Yesterday I flashed my HTC Explorer with CM10.1 Beta 5 ([DEV][ROM][JDQ39E][4.2.2] CyanogenMod 10.1.2 | BETA#5 | 25/07/13 | WILD FOR THE NIGHT) . But with this build my phone is not mounting the second partition of size 2GB (total 16gb card) which I have created from recovery menu. I have tried with the Mini partition tool on windows for FAT32 too, but still its not mounting my either Link2SD, mount2SD or by the kernel (About Phone -> System partion).
Please help me as without mounting the 2nd partition I can not install any other app as very very less space is available after CM 10.1.
Thank you.
Use Int2sd+ for cm10.1
You can Google it & download
Note: you when flash ROM when mount system, data,sd-ext..and make ext3 partition

Its still not working. I wonder, if we can do so many things in CM, why can not we simply integrate the script in to the rom itself. I'm damn sure 100% of HTC explorer users must be searching for a way to increase the internal memory of the phone also now a days sd cards are damn cheap.

mount2sd NOT mounted SD-EXT on Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos
hi,
I have a rooted Samsung GT-B5512. Init.d and mountd2sd installed.
Android 2.3.6, kernel: 2.6.35.7.
Trying to move a lot to SD card, including some system files since this is a low end device with little memory. Even with apps like link2sd after a large number of apps the int storage was full :/ therefore trying the mount2sd but it doesn't want to mount the sd partition.
The card (16GB) is formatted as follow: 13 GB FAT32, 1 GB EXT3.
In the section Storage\External mount2sd says Not mounted.
the busybox is installed, the startup script too. Driver is set to EXT but most of fields are grayed out.
Please help.

thank you, I was struggling with this alone for too long ...
Did as you say but same results. Mount2sd doesn't see the SD-EXT.
FYI - I did not install the ClockworkMod,just run it from the Android recovery shell. Anyway it was able to successfully create partitions on the SD.
Don't know if that matters ...
Do you want me to post any screens, or log files (actually mount2sd log is empty, even though debug mode is checked).

My ClockWordMod (CWM-6102) does only ext3 (did not find setting to change type). I'm not sure is there higher CWM for my cell.
I've made the ext4 using MiniTool Part under Windows but it looks like the Mount2SD does not support ext4 in my case. I can choose ext2, ext3, fat, auto but the ext4 is dimmed (could it be Android kernel related?).
Tried then also sd-ext and FAT, still Not Mounted ...

it was kernel thing (BTW - there are very few recovery binaries for this phone, CWM is for example mostly in use as a temporary executed, loaded each tip from ZIP).
I have updated kernel to this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1913349
and things automatically got mounted (even made a partition using my PC and working same good)
thanks for participation
