[Q] Is there anything even close to this for Android tablets? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is a Microsoft product that is pretty cool...and I was wondering if there is anything available for Android tablets that is similar to this...it's called "Inkseine"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWi6vtSK7N4

well I don't know of any android tablet that has a pen digitizer on them yet, so it'll be much harder to pull off with a capacitive stylus.

[Q] Can I use parts from other tablets on my transformer?

I posted once before asking where to get a touch screen replacement. Since I have discovered no one in the world has one, now I would like to know is the screen part interchangeable. I am thinking that I could use the screen from the galaxy tab 10.1 because the screens look very similar. Has anyone tried this? Is it even possible?

I'm going to buy the part. I wouldn't cannibalize a perfectly good tablet that's just wrong.
The parts would not likely be compatible, even if the two tablets were using the exact same screen technology and the same screen size. Every tablet has a different placement on the ribbon cables, batteries, daughter boards, speakers, etc., which all has an effect on how the screen, buttons, and bezel will all fit together on top. You have to use identical devices in order to be able to swap parts.
Haha, just had to make sure.. You know, in case you were that crazy about your asus.

[Q] Capacitive Stylus

Hey!
I really hope that this haven´t been asked already...I haven´t found an answer yet. Tell me, is there any possibility to get a digitizer working on this touchpad? I do not have any knowledge about the technical requirements for these active pens...
Y dont you just get a ipad pen type of pen?

Do you mean a capacitive stylus? The screen is capacitive so only a capacitive stylus will work. Just check out ebay. Any stylus that works with an ipad, transformer, or iconia will work on the touchpad.
If you are thinking of something more like a Wacom tablet type 'active' digitizer, then no, they cannot work with a standard (capacitive only) device. They operate using a radio frequency system which has to be present both on the pen and on the tablet itself.
The bonus is improved accuracy and sensitivity for the device, the drawback being cost, a *screenless* wacom tablet using that technology is already a hundred dollars or more, and to combine it with a screen wacom charges a thousand dollars handily.
HTC has a compromise of a sort with the flyer tablet, but again thats a two part system, part of it is in the pen and part is engineered into the tablet itself.
Thats´what I meant (an active digitizer)...okay, thank you all for your help!!! In this case I have to find out, if such a capacitive pen runs well, but I´ve heard that the are not that good...
Thanks!

ICS on phones with capacitive buttons?

The Nexus is going to have a 4.6" with no capacitive buttons. Realistically you end up with about 4.3" of working screen space. ICS is designed with this type of device in mind.
What happens when ICS is ported to devices with capacitive buttons like the Bionic, GS2 and Photon? I presume ICS will be programmed to use the capacitive buttons, correct and eliminate the digital selections. Otherwise, we lose .3" of screen space on our devices and have a row of useless capacitive buttons. Anyone with info on this?
It will be just like what it is now but when there are no buttons you get the buttons
If you check up on the ics port
That came out yesterday or the day b4. You will see that there are no capacitive buttons. Also its been confirmed that ics WILL come out for g..b Devices..... so we're ok when the update or rom comes out

See here:
I was thinking that they might be considering something along the lines of what the ICS Launcher is like....you get the softkeys or whatever when on the homescreen and a few menus but that's it....once you navigate away they are gone.
You can see what I am talking about here to get an fairly good idea of what ICS is or at least could be like on your device.

This is only a launcher and not a ROM or the actual ICS...for any newbs out there.

Is that real? It seems a bit odd that the kernel version is still 2.x when ICS (of the Galaxy Nexus) is 3.x.

Both the N1 and NS have the SDK ports being worked on:
http://androidcommunity.com/ice-cream-sandwich-sdk-port-running-on-the-nexus-one-video-20111021/
So this is how the buttons will be configured for older devices.
Google have said that the Source code will be released "soon", which is the word they always use and usually means sometime between now and months from now. Hopefully it won't be a long wait and then we'll have some proper ROMs, like CM9 to play with.

I completely agree with this google soon could mean 1 month or 2 , and the nexus s getting 4.0 after that galaxy nexus been released kind of sucks I still got my nexus s (only because I want ICS) and I wish it would be released before or something

This. I'm pretty sure they'll have an option to either turn it off, or not have it at all on a capacitive button device
Looking forward to these changes. Now, just see how long it takes to come to the bionic.
If the phone already has hardware buttons, the virtual buttons won't be enabled. As simple as that.
Personally I'd rather have the capacitative buttons and more screen space! Moving the buttons on-screen is a move toward the iOS style, which I think has too many buttons cluttering the display.

Every one is entitled to their opinion, but for me I see it as a very good decision. Google must have too or they would not have put it in ICS.
I think not requiring devices to have capacitive buttons will hopefully lower the cost of devices some cause OEM's will not have to put them on their new devices. Also it will hopefully extend the life of a device seeing as their is no non needed external hardware buttons to worry about them malfunctioning.
I personally have a Acer Iconia A500 tablet and I love the virtual buttons at the bottom in Honeycomb. You get better response times from the onscreen keys then with hardware keys, or at least that is what I have noticed when using my tablet and my HTC Sensation side beside. Also I am sure sense this is the initial implementation of this on all Android devices that it will get more development to this feature. And who knows you might even be able to hide and summon the keys at will some how either now or in the future. Of course from what i have seen the older devices with capacitive buttons will still use those buttons and not have the virtual buttons on screen, unless there may be a need for them by certain apps. So unless you upgrade to a Android 4.0 native device, the virtual buttons will not really effect you right now.

But you do have more screen space!
Unfortunately, you're looking at this all wrong. You have a 4.6" screen, 4.3" with the buttons. That means that when you need it—videos, gaming, etc.—you have 4.6"; when you have the buttons, you're down to 4.3". If you were to have capacitive buttons, realistically, you'd have them on the bottom accompanied by 4.3" of screen. And when you're gaming, watching videos, or using any other full-screen app... you'll still only ever have 4.3" of screen.
This is not bad. This is not "cluttering" the screen with buttons. This is maximizing the usability of each and every physical inch of your phone. You're not losing screen real-esate, you're losing the capacitive buttons and adding more screen.
And the best part? Phones will start looking a lot better. Losing those icons on the bottom makes for a much cleaner design. The future is here, and I'm liking it.

agreed, Devs will come up with a solution

I just purchased a tf700 2days ago and i love it but always wishing it to have a pen digitizer , now that the galaxy note 10.1 is already available at bestbuy , the same place where i purchase my tf700 i'm going to return it and get the samsung. I really like the resolution on the asus but the productivity samsung offers using the digitizer is something thats hard to resist. I'm also using an ipad3 so i know how hard to go back to a low resolution like the samsung.
Is it a good move to replace it or just keep it?

Well, I think the Infinity with the keyboard dock (and a wireless mouse) is a super productivity device. I can't really see making that much use of the pen digitizer, so for me it's a no brainer...I would keep the Infinity. But it depends on what you think you'd get more use out of.
Good luck.

Since you have both....what do you prefer, screen resolution or battery life? Digitizer pen or a keyboard attachment? Plastic or aluminum shell? Use the devices and see which one preforms better.
You'll need to make the choice.
A box of 10 capacitive stylus is available at Ebay for $3, problem solved!
I say go with the Infinity, Samsung's update track record is horrible, and the plastic build quality is lacking compared to the Aluminum shell on the Infinity.

You guys really need to do some research. You're comparing apples to oranges.
I traded my Nexus for the Note on Friday and immediately fell in love. Of course, there are a few things I would change about the Note – there are a few things I would change about every smartphone. Aside from being stuck on Gingerbread (with TouchWiz no less), though, I have very little to complain about. And after spending just shy of a week with the phablet, I'm surprised by how much I actually find myself using what I thought to be the least notable feature of the Note, the S Pen (stylus).
Being a stylus, granted it is far better than your typical capacitive stylus and comes with additional functionality (the button), I honestly never thought I would use it all that much. I had no reason to hate it, like most people do, but I figured it would stay in its slot in the back of the phone. I've had my fair share of capacitive styluses (styli?) and found them to be no better than a shaky, inaccurate finger.
I knew the S Pen was different, but I doubted it could be that much different or better. I had tried it in passing (with a few demo units at CES and with Aaron's Note during his challenge), but a few minutes with it really doesn't do the S Pen any justice or give the users the full scope of its abilities.
So what makes it so much better than your average stylus? For one, it isn't capacitive; it's inductive. Using a capacitive stylus, if you touch your hand to the display while trying to write, your palm may also make marks on the display or cause the application to zoom in or out. Since the S Pen is inductive, when it is in use, capacitive input is shut off entirely until the S Pen is lifted from the screen, so you can rest your palm on the display without worrying. But it also has a tiny point about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen, like resistive styluses of yesteryear. Capacitive styluses come with either felt or rubber tips, making them big and inaccurate.
Like I said, I literally thought I would never use the S Pen. But the Note has replaced the Nexus as my primary device, and I have noticed that I'm using the S Pen almost every time I turn the device on – which is very often. Even if I don't use it, I pull the S Pen out when I flip the cover (I'm using the Samsung Flip Cover on my Note, pictured above) around back and have it ready to go if I need it for a screen shot or a quick note.

I am charging them both to 100% before I really get into it with them.
What one do you think would have the better battery life?
The pen is a nice thing to have once and a while.
I will never buy the dock for the ASUS. I want a tablet not a mini computer.
The shell does not really matter to me. The Samsung does not really feel cheap or like it would break easily. If you drop one of them and it is damaged i am sure the other one would would not be in great shape either.
Is there a difference in the screen material?
Isn't having a Samsung and an Apple in the same household against the law or something...

Can the TF101 act as a Wacom tablet?

Lately, I've been getting more and more into photography as well as photoshop editing. Since I bought my Galaxy Note 2, my tablet hasn't seen the light of day. It literally sits on my entertainment center collecting dust. Right now, I'm in the market for a wacom tablet. I know there isn't pressure sensitivity, but would it be possible to connect the tf101 to my PC and make it act as the wacom tablet?
You might, but it wouldn't really be a wacom tablet because that requires a special touch sensitive pen. If I see anything related to this I will know where to post though!
Sent from my Transformer using xda app-developers app
Due to the lack of pressure sensitivity, it would be kind of worthless - you could just use a mouse to accomplish the same thing without a massive pointless battery drain.
Something like this might work : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teamviewer.teamviewer.market.mobile&hl=en . Or this : http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/misc/using-your-android-device-as-a-wireless-keyboardmouse/ .
But it's going to like trying to paint or draw with a brick. Even the tablets/pens that have pressure sensitivity are nowhere near even the cheap Wacom/other tablets.
Not trying to shoot you down, just say that if you're serious about art/photo manipulation, this just won't cut it - it's more of a gimmick.
ahhhhh....I ended up buying the wacom tablet!! =)
