[Q] Easiest Way To Backup & Then Restore All Apps/Settings When Flashing A New ROM?
Sorry for the noob question, but what's the easiest way to backup all my apps/setttings/contacts/messages before flashing a new ROM and then restoring them all?

Yes and no. not just settings. If a ROM is updated or u flash a different ROM, what u think gone happen if u restore that system stuff?

I´m using Titanium Backup Pro for all User Apps and Mybackup Root for everything except Apps.
+ Nandroidbackup with CWM

Back up only your User apps and apps data. Backing up your system settings may cause crashes or bugs when u flash a different ROM or a newer ROM and might actually affect the performance.

Dont back up system data then how to back up CONTACT and SMS by using Titanium back up? Or we should use other back up tool for Contact and Sms?

Back up everything. There is no reason not to back up everything. When you restore, just choose to restore all apps+data and you'll be fine (it always restores sms and contacts for me). Just don't restore system and it will work out, so that's why I say to back it up because it doesn't hurt

I used the superwipe before flashing ARHD rom from stock rom. After that I lost all my contacts and sms after that. I don't know what to use next time if i need to use the superwipe again so I wouldn't lose my contacts and sms etc. Can I use Titanium backup for this?

I use my backup pro, for everything. Most like titanium though. My backup pro does it all, in a cleaner interface. To each each his own though, as always. For contacts, u don't sync?

I use "MyBackup Root" to backup and restore Apps+data(i.e. the Apps settings) when i change ROMs...works perfectly fine..

titanium backup PRO

Flash a ROM but keep apps/settings?

So, I just finished the whole S-off, backup, rooting, superCID procedures, which are all super easy and straightforward, thanks to all of you guys' hard work, and now it's time to test drive different ROMs for my Sensation. The question I have is, is there any way to flash a new ROM to my phone without having to lose all my settings:
-alarms
-ringtones/wallpaper
-downloaded apps/app settings
-MMS messages
Is this what Titanium Backup is for, or is there some other way this is supposed to work? Ideally, the end stage for all of this would be able to "dual boot" between different ROMs, if possible (I'd like to see whether Sense-based or AOSP-based is the right way to go, or if I should try a custom launcher, or even maybe change things on-the-fly.) Is this sort of thing possible?

Yes, and for trying different ROMS try ROM Manager.

Okay, I figured that would be the case: back up apps&appdata w/ Titanium, flash ROM, reinstall Titanium and restore apps&data. I was a little concerned because all the ROM flashing guides go to such length about the dire consequences of not completely wiping your system, data and cache every time you flash a different ROM; it seems to me that restoring from a backup might mess up that clean slate. Is it really not a problem, or are there certain aspects of the Titanium backup that should not be restored between different ROMs?

If u update a rom from a previous build u will keep unless u wipe factory settings. If ur doing a whole new rom you might want to look into MyBackup Pro. That's saves messages, apps, etc.

Hm. Well, I just flashed Revolution HD 3.6 on my phone. I used SMS Backup to get my text messages back, and Titanium to get back Firefox and a couple of my other apps back; now I'm wondering how to migrate over all my home screens... or is that possible? Am I just going to have to put those together from scratch, or is there a way to restore those as well?

In Titanium, go to Backup/Restore window. Find the green listing: [DESKTOP]HTC Sense 3.0blahblahblah and restore Data only. Your desktops should reappear as they were, as long as you didn't kill any apps or widgets.
You may have to relink your wallpaper, other than that, you should be good to go.
P.
Note: all the Green listings are system apps, they do not restore automatically in batch because they would overwrite what you just flashed. You can, however, manually restore the data of any or all of them to recover any settings lost when wiping.

Converting from Froyo to Gingerbread without losing data

Is there a way to convert stock Froyo to Gingerbread? I'm trying to convince my wife to upgrade simply for the battery life but she doesn't want to lose her settings or apps... I'm on Valhalla myself but I did a clean flash....

U can always use titanium backup. Its on the market for free and it backs up all your apps and data and then u download the app after a clean install and then u can restore them. But u have to be rooted

+1 for Titanium backup. Just make sure you only back up user apps and not user apps + system data. The system data from Froyo will not play nice on a GB rom.

Unfortunately, Titanium Backup is the only way. Just be sure to backup only user apps. When you restore, restore user apps and data.
Do not use a Froyo backup in CWM to advanced restore data, since that will mess up some important functions on GB.

you can use it on two phones, if they are on the same google account.
there IS a way around this, so PM me and I will be happy to share.

Pro version of TB isn't needed if you are just backing up and restoring apps. The free version works fine for that.

Hmmm...I think I made a mistake...
After reading this I believe I made a mistake. I just flashed from Froyo to GB (Valhalla Black) and before doing so did a TB with apps & system data. Is there a way to recreate the 'accounts and sync' from my back up...it seems to FC when I try to access anything 'account' related. :/

Raver has said he did not include accounts and sync in his ROM. You can pull the .apk from another ROM and push it into your system. You may try this and see if it fixes your problem.

[Q] Seamless move to different ROM with help of Titanium (how to?)

OK, so i have one mod and now i want to migrate to another mod.

1. i have customized my Titanium by having filters and backup schedules, how do i transfer these things to new mod? Reinstalling this app will get these settings lost
2. on a new mod - destination mod, how do i properly restore all the apps? Do i set to recover missing apps and app data only?
3. is it possible to get all the widgets and shortcuts on screens like i had before?

If you download ext4 recovery from the market.
Find it on your phone install recovery touch beta 8
Do a backup of your current rom, and then when you flash a new rom.
Go back to recovery, choose restore
advance restore
restore only data.
It will restore all your apps etc, but keep the new rom.

Thank you, but still, there should be some other way to do that, since i might not restore all the apps, but just some of them, and i really want to have Titanium installed with the custom settings i as already use

As I understand Titanium backs up its own settings to he sd card. At least that's what mine does, I don't remember if I had to enable that in the settings though

Yeah, you have to enable it in the tb settings, otherwise it won't backup your tb settings.

I wouldn't rely on Titanium specially if you have ICS. I would use nandroid or CWM backup and restore data. You will get your Titanium as is too. You can always delete unwanted apps but if you can't restore that a diffrent story.

Im not 100%, but i think so

I'm not an expert but had done a few restore now after trying ics n goin back to gb. So with titanium, u do a restore missing apps n data...u can still deselect the app u don't want to restore
After that, u can restore some system data (in green) individually which includes ur txt msg, account info. Some can mess things up..like I restore the bookmark from gb to ics, n it crash in ics when opening bookmark
But others seems ok. To get all ur icons organized like b4, I restored the desktop one....these shld all b done just for the data if u r given a choice.
That's kinda my experience n it seems to b working ok now after I restore back to gb

Anyone ever tried nandroid backup with gingerbread, then upgrading to ICS and then trying to restore the data partition?
I'm only asking because in this case (my case) most of the restored apps keep FC-ing. Everything else is restored perfectly - call lists, sms, mms, contacts list, favourite lists, backgrounds, sounds, ringtones... - you name it, it's there. So everything besides a lot of apps after restoring from nandroid works perfect even after upgrading from GB to ICS.
SO... any suggestions how to fix the apps FCs problem restoring from nandroid data partition? Thanx

Yes you can save titanium setting to ad card and it will restore by itself. Go to preference and tick first option auto synchronized TB setting. All done

Unfortunately, i did that but it didn't work. I have the setting ticked, but i installed ICS 4.0.3 ROM and now i have a fresh Titanium Backup without any settings i had

1. you could always use a secondary backup app like System Tuner Pro to backup your applications (particularly Titanium backup) then installing System Tuner Pro first then use it to Restore Titanium to the right working order.

I don't think it is a good idea restoring GB data partition onto ICS. It is known to screw up the system/applications. Your applications need to be optimised so if you flashed it, the optimisation process may be skipped or cancelled out when you flash the data partition.

I did a couple and they worked overall pretty well (I didn't expect flawless), but each time I've had to reconfigure the device all over again, reinstall all apps, etc. Any easy way to avoid doing this? It ends up leading to a lot of wasted time I could be spending finding other ways to mess with my phone...hehe.

Sync up all your contacts and use titanium backup for restoring and backing up apps.

i bought titanium backup exactly for this reason. the paid version installs everything very fast and automatically, the free version is still helpful but you have to manually press install and ok on every app.

Also along with TB try to remember to make a "Safe" NAND backup for your phone when it is set up and working great. This is a life saver when you flash an awesome "insert something here" and it eff's up your phone you then have a clean working backup to return to with little fuss. Rom manager does it along with a few others. Welcome to the fun. Remember to READ the forum carefully their have been a lot of Hard bricks lately because people tried to install a non compatible ROM.

Titanium backup is the way to go. I want to make an android application that restores all your data from a nandroid backup after you flash a new ROM...

Thanks for asking this! I've flashed custom ROMs on my old phone, but started over from square one each time. I assumed everyone did this. I've heard of Titanium Backup many times, but I guess I always assumed people just wanted a safety net. I didn't realize you could use it to "re-install" apps into a newly flashed ROM.

Go to the market and buy titanium back up its, the best out there after flashing rom go to titanium back up again and Pico the apps you want back on you device or reinstall them all

I use SMS backup and restore too when I wipe all my phone data, which I found in the market. It backups your text messages to sd card before you wipe and you can restore after. I find it quite helpful.

Make sure you restore apps only withTB don't restore data it can cause problems. I only restore data on a small hand full of apps individually.
If you use a custom launcher they can usually back up seeing and home screen use that.
I would suggest making a nand backup of a fresh stock rom before you install apps as to keep its size small

Also important to mention that if you go between different versions of Android then never restore system data as it will usually cause force closes

Yeah, I download Titanium and its da bomb, however, I was a bit concerned about overwriting system apps. If you do a complete restore, won't you bugger up your newly flashed device completely? I also noticed that when, for example, I restored Amazon WITH data, it made me enter my id and pw all over again.
Fortunately, I haven't bricked mine yet. I'm eager to avoid doing that as it would cost me $$$$ to replace it. Is it a problem returning a bricked device under warranty by essentially playing "dumb" user?

I always use Titanium backup for restoring the apps... There are a few in the market but most of them did not work well for me (although they have quite good rating). I have a Titanium free so I have to select the apps I want to re-install and do it one at a time if you are willing to spend money I will say that you get the paid version where it is much easier to re-install

To be honest, I didn't know about this. And so this works when going from any ROM to any ROM?? It's as simple as that? No special considerations for certain situations?
