Alright so the first day I got it (before I rooted it and flashed netarchy kernel) I got good battery life. Now that I'm rooted and have a custom kernel set a 1Ghz Max and 200Mhz Min my battery life blows. I got like 13 hours of battery life yesterday. Do you have to train the Nexus S battery? I was excited about switching to this phone from my EVO hoping for awesome battery life but so far I'm being let down...
I know what you mean Brutus. I haven't rooted yet but I am excited to do so. The battery life is ok for me comparing the rooted EVO to the stock Nexus. I just love how this phone sits in the hands and pockets. It's perfect. I miss the CM7 goodies though. 4G toggle (none on the market work for the NS4G), Torch, pull down widgets, gesture lock... and a few other things.
Hang in there bud. BTW, which rooting method did you use?
My battery was twice as good on day 7 as it was on day one.

Good to hear and hope it gets better! I used the rooting method on the first page of "Rooting a 4g" in the Question and Answer section. I also used the unlockr videos for setting up ADB and Fastboot since I didn't have to for my EVO.
Oh and is anybody having issues with charging the 4G? It takes like 5 hours to charge fully!
Does anyone
Does anyone have a link to the best rooting method im having all kinds of trouble
video link would do if available please

Its the wack AC adapter. When i had the T-mobile version with the AC adapter, it was painfully long to charge it. I have a i9020A now, and it comes with a dedicated chargers and it happens much faster. Also, after getting settled in with my 2.3.4 and not flashing every day, my battery life lasts the entire day for me easy. I can usually go from 5.30AM-9PM at work on shift where im bouncing from 3G-Edge alot and will get to about 20% at 9PM.
I9020A on 2.3.4 with stock kernel. Only mod is root access.

I flashed to the Infuse v2 beta 1 and now I'm only getting 14-16 hours per charge with heavy use.
Thanks gtg465x and all the dev's working on this.
Same here, I flashed yesterday. So far I have 14 hours and I am barely at 70%.
Luis
Most people say that Beta 2 has a much better battery performance, so it might be best to try that for size
EDIT: oh, I get it
I had terrible battery results on the Infused ROMs... I keep hoping it'll improve, but have essentially given up. People always say "battery is better" but it's simply wishful thinking. Nothing is better than stock, but some ROMs are better than others. I was running 10% an hour drain on Infused even from clean install. Blehh.

Battery life on stock? Never heard anyone complain about it except when on a non-stock ROM
I only got about 5-6 hours on stock rom. Today I was at 6% after 17 1/2 hours of fairly heavy use.

Werid, I get 2 days EASY out of the stock. I've had Infused (1.0, 1.5.2, 1.5.3) and Refused, and both of them lost 5-10% per hour, so I couldn't get through the business day. Many people have reported the same... :-(

when my battery dies quickly, i restart the phone... that usually takes care of the draining issue.
It sucks that you are having such a problem with ROMs, I have been running infused 1.5.3(kernel that comes with that) for about 2 weeks and I can get 2 days out of my battery pretty easy. although I'm not a real heavy user I still think this is good. I was getting about the same battery life with stock. with the screen off I drop about .5% an hour. only thing I can think of is that I was at 100% charge when I flashed Infused, I also kept phone on the charger for about 8 hours after flash then let it drain all the way b4 charging again.
I get very bad battery life with infused v1. I can drain the battery in about 3 hours of use, plus it takes hours to charge with a 2 amp charger . My GPS is pretty much worthless as well. Even after the agps source fix
Very dissapointed with this rom so far.

Do you have something against GTG and his roms? Why don't you go flash another rom and complain about there shhhhtuff too. Quit bashing on GTGs work, his roms have and do work great for me with only minimal issues with recent beta release but that's beta for ya. Battery has been Great by the way. Maybe you should go through your apps to find that ghost battery thief or just plain stick to stock and shut it!!

Hello, recently switched from my epic 4g to an evo and now to a nexus s 4g. I am currently running cyanogenmod7 with the netarchy 1.3.9 cfs kernal. I rooted the instance i got the phone so i never found out how stock rom battery life is. Anyhow what do you think the best combination of rom/kernal for battery life is?
Try them all and see what works for you. Just like the Evo, the Nexus has finicky hardware and all the different Rom Kernel combos work differently with different phones. For example, I can't use Matr1x at all. Phone has areas that stop working and gets real laggy but others love it.
|NeXuS S 4G|
I've been running the NS4G stock since the day I got it and the battery is AMAZING! But I'm comparing it to my previous Android phones, Hero (battery life was OK) and EVO (battery life was horrendous!)
I'm ready to root the Nexus and I'm hoping that none of these custom ROMs mess w/ my current battery life..
Stock the battery is awesome I've had this phone for a month and still can't mimmick it.. but on my rooted Evo still had better battery life than this phone I stretched it to 37h 49m but.. and using matrix I get dead spots on the center of the screen every now and then.

This should be in Q/A....
But to the point I've been using CM7 and Netarchy and it easily lasts through the day. Usually the phone leaves the charger around 8~AM and by 9PM-12AM when I plug it in for the night it's usually above 50 percent, sometimes down to 30-40 if I used it a lot.
Usage patterns will determine the battery life more then anything else. Don't Overclock or go crazy on background updates and the S will treat you right

lmaoo whoa what a fail.. anyways.. so your 3g was turned off the whole time? don't really know that many roms about the evo cuz I have an epic and my bro has a nexus s 4g.. EDIT: actually running on 30+ hours now on the epic with 40% battery left..
Have one of these, rooted, stock rom on Rogers (LTE).
The battery life seems inconsistent... Some days it seems fine but days like today with 11 hours off the charger, with the two highest battery culprits being android OS (46%) and android system (16%) the battery life is already at 26%.
Other days when its on my desk it uses nowhere near as much...

You talking about the TMo version? I did a search and I cant find a Skyrocket or Rogers version of a BeastMOD ROM.
BTW I get have been getting 34-37 hrs @ 20-15% on the BoneSTOCKeteer-v1.0 ROM with med to light use. Your mileage may vary, but stock ROM only lasted a day with the same use.
edit: the more you play with/use your phone the faster the battery is going to peter out no matter the ROM
I noticed that wifi has a big impact on battery life. I hit about 50% of battery life with it on in about 5 hours but with it off and moderate use I can get 2 days use.
Just a thought and I froze lots of the SNS syncing apps with TB. I dont use those since i use another program for FB.
I actually like the ATT Smart Wifi app. Shuts down wifi when not in use. I think the free version of Juice Defender doesn't do that.
I have now owned my 727R for 6 weeks, coming from an iphone 4. I am finding the battery life inconsistent from charge to charge and anywhere from barely adequate to downright poor. Maximum I have ever gotten was 26 hours with minimal use and minimum has been 10 hours with minimal use.
I have installed and use Juice defender, and have looked at a variety of apps such as cpu spy, cpu hound, traffic monitor. I have turned off notification as much as possible and all other tricks under the sun.
My phone does not seem to go to deep sleep often and a lot of times it shows as awake even though the screen was off for a while.
The straw that broke the camle was when I cmpared notes with my clleague who has a Galaxy S (I know, no 4g, no LTE, smaller csreen). But he is getting 90% battery life with wifi and bluetooth on after 7 hours 15 minutes (minimal use). In the same time period I am down to 60% with bluetooth off!
I am not planning on rooting the phone and using custom ROMS or Kernels right now.
What gives? What do I look at to improve battery life?
Thanks
i notice with out a lot of changes i get horrible horrible battery life. but with a custom rom like quick wiz. i turn screen down. wifi off. under clock it and use a battery saver plus task killer i get two days moderet (use

I would suggest since Roger stock rom sucks the life out of the battery to root it and use faux123 kernel and Gideon's script to under clock it. Im using at&t stock rom rooted and faux123 kernel and I haven't had a bad battery day yet.. currently 12hrs moderate use 73% still.... not bad at all. Give it a try.. its not like it could any worse lol

It looks like this isn't available for Skyrocket.
1) Does it work like it should, and does it save battery, or is the battery savings negated by other junk running with it in the background? Reviews seem very mixed.
2) If you got it on a SR, how? Would pulling the APK from another device work?

I hated my skyrocket when I first got it because the battery sucked. Never could make it through a full day of average use. I did a search, found out how to root and install a custom rom and now I love it. I can go a full day and still have 20% left. All I can recommend is rooting and at least remove bloatware. I've never seen a single skyrocket user happy with their battery life on stock. Maybe sell or trade it for another iPhone.

My phone takes a solid 5 minutes to start up. Is this normal on the Inspire? My dad has a different model HTC and it only takes a few seconds.
Would rooting and installing a different ROM help this?
Would that also help with battery life? Mine is awful.

a fresh boot depending on how many apps you have, the class of your micro sd card and how much media it has to scan can take up to 3 min.
If your Dad's phone only takes a few seconds then most likely it is not off but rather in hibernation or suspended. 3 minutes is about right for one that is completely off. Mine is rooted and still takes that long.
I'm running aospX with boot animatin off. It's the only ROM I've seen take <3mins for a full boot, TBH.

A factory reset would probably be healthy for your phone at this point. I would give that a try. As far as your dad having a different phone than you, dont compare apples and oranges as it will never give you a happy feeling Ya I would personally just wipe it and start fresh, i have such a bad rom addiction so i never get clutter, never goes more than a couple weeks without being wiped lol.
Okay, how about battery life? Will rooting and installing a custom Rom help that? The only way I make it through the day is if I have the juice defender app on.

Depending on the from yes. AOSP is great for batteries. But you give up Sense and everything that comes along with it. Custom Roma tend to do better on battery but it will mostly depend on how you use and set up your device. Apps and Widgets use a lot of battery
The display is the only thing draining my battery on cm7. I recommend the 7.2 rc1 build. Very fast, smooth, stable, good looks too.

Hi everybody
I've flashed the latest version of several 421 ROM for our NEXUS S (mine is 9020T)
Now I'm using the one of slukk
The strange (worse) thing is that with all the ROM used the battery life is very very short.
I usually use the kernel bundled with the rom too, but I've also flashed the latest marmite (thank You Bedalus).
But the result is always the same..
Now my battery die after one day ov few use, while ith 412 rom it die after one day and half..
why
Give it time. 4.1 started with threads just like this. Keep in mind that 4.2 is a port for all the ns devices, it will take some time to get everything straightened out and hopefully optimized

You are lucky your's lasts one day. Mine will last anywhere from 6 hours to 13 hours. Most of my battery seems to get eaten by "Mediaserver". I listen to satellite radio on the way into work. I listen to streaming Google Music on the way home. I don't use it all that much while at work. It's really frustrating.
