I finally understood how to root my Inspire to take it over to my pre-paid T-Mobile, but, now, I can't get to the internet via WiFi. I've tried my wifi, as well as other connections around me, with no luck. The only way I can get internet on my phone is if I use the passthrough option. I'm running the stock 2.2 OS with no ROMs. Have I done something wrong...?
Additional Info:
Forgot to mention that I used the ace-hack, Version 11A. Also, I can scan for wifi networks, and I can connect. I have a good signal, and I can login to my router and see the phone listed. The "Mobile network" setting has been disabled since I won't be using data with T-Mobile. I've turned on Airplane Mode and tried to get to the internet that way, and the same thing still happens; I can see the networks, and I can connect, but, I have no data coming in or going out.
Any luck? I just ran through the same version of ace hack 11 and I'm experiencing the same problem. I can connect to any wi-fi with an excellent signal, but can't connect to the internet.

No ): I ran through AceHack11A again for giggles, and, I still have the issue. I'm thinkin' I may have to install the stock AT&T radio, but, from what I understand of it, the radio has nothing to do with wifi.
I'll save you the trouble of installing the stock radio, already tried it. I was able to get things working though... here's basically my chronology of things:
- Did step one of the reverse CID, god the goldcard.img emailed to me, no problems
- Did step 2, downgraded. After the downgrade, I could still use wi-fi at this point without issue.
- Step 3... this is where the wifi internet issue was introduced.
- Connected to the internet with via my PC with USB cable.
- Ran the one of the programs that was installed in step 3: Rom Manager (while connected to the internet). It made me download and install Flash ClockworkMod (all done through the rom manager gui).
- I bought the full version of Rom Manager. I removed the free version that was installed, re-installed the updated free version, then bought the premium rom manager.
- Within ROM manager, clicked on Download ROM and downloaded the CyanogenMod rom (I went with the regular CyanogenMod, not the nightlies version). Installed it, and everything works great.
You can probably tell I'm a total newb to android, hence the annoyingly detailed description of what I did. Give it a go, maybe it will work for you?
same problem here, after root
update:
Ok, I fixed installing a stock ROM from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
Probably the problem has to be something with Rom Manager (is not present in the stock rom), I didn't check it anyway.
I have the same problem several days ago. I flashed the Revolution ROM, and it was resolved.

Hi, this is my first post on here. I searched the forums for this problem I just encountered that happened right after I plugged in my phone at work to get internet thru my PC using the data cable. At lunch time I went home and turned WiFi on and now it just keeps scanning and will not connect to my Wifi! It sees my WiFi which was working just fine since the day I brought it home. All this started because I wanted to try out using the data cable to get internet on my phone since my work doesn't have WiFi. I believe it has something to do with connecting thru the data cable pass-through connection. I am on stock ROM. I rooted the phone before but went back to stock ROM because it just seemed like too much maintenance for me at this time.
Does anyone know how I can fix this? Am I going to have to flash back to original ROM to fix this?
I searched some more on there and only found this other topic but since I'm not at home at I cannot confirm if changing it to charge only and restarting will fix the WiFi problem that I am having! I'll try this out later.

For anyone else having issues, please use this method.
NOTE: You DO NOT have to buy the full version of ROM Manager in order to fix the issue. The free version will work just fine.

What ROM are you running?
I am pretty new to Android so bear with me if I ask stupid things in the course of this.
Today I rooted my Inspire 4G using the ace kit v11b and that went fine other than the fact that I cannot connect to the internet from the phone any more. It seems to connect to my wifi just fine, but I can't log into my google account, internet browsing doesn't work etc. I saw one thread where people were having the same issue, and the solution suggested was to flash this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042 which I tried doing through he rom manager via the sd card, but as soon as the install starts it tells me "Install Aborted" with no detail as to why. I've never flashed roms before so I'm sort of lost at this point. Can anyone help?

I'm not sure what you mean by using rom manager to flash that one.....that one needs to be flashed using hboot.....
Download the zip....and then rename it PD98IMG.zip (it has to be named exactly that)...then stick it on the root of your SD card (meaning not in any folders)....then turn off your phone, but make sure fast boot is turned off first......Then turn your phone on by holding power and the volume minus button at the same time, until the hboot screen loads....release and then just wait...it will automatically find the zip and ask if you want to update....
Thats about it...
Thank you so much, that did it!
I didn't know there were different ways of flashing roms and also managed to completely miss the point of renaming the file. I did what you said and it worked like a charm, cheers!
Think I'll read a bit more about android before flashing any more roms.
I rooted my phone with superoneclick. Now I have several apps that ran before but now will start but then get stuck. I unrooted which didn't help, then reset to factory defaults and that didn't help either. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the apps as well. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
Could try going back to stock with any of these treads, they are pre-rooted so you wont have to soc root them.. even when soc rooting has never made me any trouble...

Remember to flash via BACK usb ports or you can probably fail at flashing from a front port if the usb overpowers(or something like that)
Relax is practically impossible to brick the Infuse just need to reflash using a back usb port for safety.
Hope it gets solved.
Thank you very much, Odin didn't work but Heimdall did.
Okay so Im not that new with rooting androids or with using custom roms, so I'm not that much of a noob. The other day I decided since CM9 was in official nightlies I would give it a try. So I backed up my rom which was stock and rooted and I installed CM9 all through CWM recovery. Once in CM9 i notice the tablet wont connect to my phones tethering which is the only way I can get internet on it so I deciced to go back to my backup. But now on my backup the Wifi wont even turn on, anyideas why?
Hello,
I got exactly the same problem. I have installed CWM 5.5.0.4 and I tried CM9 nightly and return to Nandroid BackUp. Then no more wifi..
I tried to flash differents versions of stock kernels, but it was impossible to flash it : "Installation aborded"..
I used fastboot to install a new recovery : TWRP, but same problem : impossible to flash any kernels..
Does someone has the same problem? Or any idea to solve it?
Thank a lot !
Crystalyse
I also had another question...
is there any rom that will connect to Android tethering (ad-hoc)?
I was able to connect on stock rom rooted with cwm recovery but now every rom I tried so far wont connect to it.
Is there a way to work around this issue
I'm having similar problems, check this out:

+1 That's the fix (WPA_Spullicant2) that worked for me. My TF300 just kept saying "Saved" when trying to connect to ad-hoc. Replaced the WPA_Supplicant2 file and all is working well.
It's a known issue with wifi not working on stock rooted nandroid backups. If you go back to stock, you will need to follow the step in this post from Xplod.

I,m using Galaxy Y S5360. previous i flashed the custom rom, hyperion without backing up my IMEI number. i know it was very stupid of me, and for that i cant make calls. its a huge problem. So i thought of going back to the stock rom, flashing with odin. but then i realise that usb port of my phone is damaged. Its not reading the data cable connection as one instead it starts charging. its not because of any driver problem, coz ive tried all. its a hardware problem. So please can anyone help me to give an alternative way to flash stock rom via reccovery mode. PLEASE help needed. the thought of bricking my scares the hell out of me.
Installing through recovery mode just need to transfer stock rom to your xtrnl sd card thats why you have to use data cable
