Custom Folders? - Thunderbolt General

I am coming from a rooted D1 with ADW and this is my first time with a Sense phone. With ADW I was able to create folders with custom icons, is that possible with sense? I want to change the standard plain folder icons with my own.

Not that I'm aware of, have to use something like Folder Organizer.

Try using Desktop Visualizer. It's free in the Market.

sure... just long press on screen to add....choose folder to add, choose type (use "new folder" for apps). Drag items from screen and drop on folder to add. To rename folder, open it, tap on top (should say "Folder" if never renamed) and change name.

creating shortcuts?

Is there a way for my to create the shortcuts that are left out of ROMs that I need for some programs to work [like my different themes in WAD?]

Open a shortcut with notepad(drag it into), change the name and location of your file, and voila
I like using ActiveSync's Explore function to create the shortcut...
Just locate the file you want to create the shortcut for, right click, create shortcut, VOILA...
Rename the shortcut if need be (which I always do, "shortcut to XXX" is so lame) and move it whereever you want..

That too I was used this way because prior building the rom you can't do that.

How to make .ink files to link the programs in my SD card to the programs folder?

Hi,
I've been using PPCs for a while, but as I've started to use cooked roms, I've hard reseted more the past two months more then my entire life since these awesome chefs just keep pumping them out. But my problem now is that the programs I've installed on my SD card are no longer automatically recongnized by the device and I've got to total commander to SD card, program files... to get to the files instead of it being organized in the programs folder. So I have two questions. How do I make .ink files, and where should I put these links so that they show up in the programs?
Thanks
Try using Total Commander to make a shortcut(lnk) in \windows\start menu.
thanks for the responce, but I'm looking to how to put it in the general program thing so that other launchers such as HTC home can access it. And could you specify how you would use total commander to make an ink file?
Thanks
I just use the Explore function in ActiveSync, navigate to the EXE I want to make a shortcut of, right click and select Create Shortcut then copy and past in wimndows\startmenu\programs\folder name of your choice.

Ah... ok, that sounds like it should work.
Thanks for the help.
Alternatively, if you no the full path of the file, you can open up notepad on your desktop computer, type in "#" followed by the full path, and then save that file as an lnk file. (not "LNK" not "INK").
E.G.
Code:
#"\Storage Card\My Folder\My Program.exe"
For some links, and some more info on creating them, try this thread.

Umm... I'd look at some existing lnk files, from the ROM, and they will have icons.
The lnks will have (by default) the same icon as whatever you're linking it to.

SK has a really easy tool to allow the change of icons from .dll's, but it's a few dollars.

How to move games icons to Games folder?

Hi.
Does somebody know how to move games icons to Games folder? (For example "Autumn Dynasty" or "Jumba")
I do indeed
using the file explorer on the phone (these folders dont show up in windows) find the game exe in my device>program files>"folder name of program">
It will be here, probably the icon will be the games icon. Now hold your finger down on that for a few seconds until an menu pops up and select copy.
Now go to mydevice>windows>startmenu>programs>games and hold your thumb down in an empty space until the menu comes up again, and press "paste shortcut"
If you dont get something just ask again
I take it you mean just moving the shortcut icons from the start menu in to the games folder of the start menu. If the icon already exists in the start menu then its pretty much the same as above just go with the file explorer to \windows\start menu\programs "cut" the icon and "paste it in to the games folder.
BTW you can view the windows folder on your pc. You need to connect your phone through active sync then go to "control panel" on your pc, then "folder options" then go to "view" tab and deselect the "hide protected operating system files" Then using phone browser you can view the contents of the windows folder. It is however painfully slow to open and you run the risk of screwing up your device if you go round deleting things but it works none the less.

What so on the home screen, one of the 3 tabs is a like to the games folder? I found one way using resco explorer. Browse to windows/startmenu/programs and then hold your finger on the games folder till you get the menu pop up, select send to> start menu as shortcut. Then go to add a program on the home links and go to programs (instead of bookmarks or contacts) and the games folder will be there, the image will be the resco explorer image with the word games underneath it
Hope that helps, took me ages to work it out lol
Here is a link i created using THIS app. If you copy it to your start menu somewhere (\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.......) You can then assign it to the quick links. What it does is opens file explorer with arguements to take it to the games folder. Basically it opens file explorer in games folder of the start menu.
It does what resco does to create links but a bit more manual and its free.
Thanks! however the send to option is greyed out, not available.

Yes, it creates a shortcut to the games folder, but you can modify shortcuts and change the parameters. Just copy it to your PC and edit it.
Moving Icons Completely
Is it possible to move a games that I download to the game folder neat and clean (meaning without having a bunch of short cut to, short cut to, short cut to)?

Customising Start Icons

Hi all, Im sorry if this has been covered before but ive been looking for an app that allows me to move, delete, place in folder icons that are in the start menu (The one that comes up when you press the start button on the phone). I have apps that are all over the place and would like to reorganize them if possible.
hello.
I just reach to this aplication on the HD2 that could work for us too.
as I am new I can not put the whole link sorry

Looks like a great program but its not what im looking for....i want a program that allows me to rearrange my programs shortcuts under the start menu and the app provided only allows me to change the icons of the apps..thanx thou
Still looking for an App to do the above please
Have you tried your file explorer to cut and paste the shortcuts to wherever you want. You can add folders and rename them to put apps of a specific type into too if you want.
Ive had a look previously and there is no one repository that the shortcuts live, and i`d image that windows would arrange them by name if could find them which doesnt give me the option i want..
What i want to do is say move the facebook app which is at the bottom of the list and put it about half way up under all the system shortcuts or in a custom folder. The only option the rom gives is "more to top" or "move to bottom".
I hope im making sense.
If you are using WM 6.1 or 6.5, the shortcuts are in \Windows\Start Menu.
Perhaps you are referring to the Manila/Sense program tab are you? If yes, then you should be able to add/remove these from one of the soft keys.
Perhaps you can give us a screenshot of the programs you are referring to....
Hi there sorry for the delay...ive attached the screenshot as per your request.....
So what im wanting to be able to do is re-arrange any icon in the menu so like games to where marketplace is for example
Is this possible?
Hi
I don't understanding something
Is simple drag and drop method not working for you?
Longpress icon until it popsup, drag there you want, release finger.
i cant drag and drop, i think this is a limitation on the rom which is v2.1. The only option i have is to move the icon to the top as shown in the screenshot. All i want to be able to do is move one shortcut to somewhere else in the same menu... aka in the order i want. Im sure someone would have asked this before and that there would be an App that would allow a user to customize this menu.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567080
Try this.
Thanx heaps i1ll give a go now and report bk...much appreciated
What rom are you using? If its a 6.5 you can use the drag and drop method described earlier to rearrange start meu icons.
Otherwise they are in this location: \Windows\Start Menu\Programs.
To create specific folders to move shortcuts to, would look like this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\Media]
"Name"="Media"
"Group"=dword:00000001
"Icon"="\\Windows\\Media.png"
... where "Name" is the name of the folder, "Icon" is the picture that will represent the folder on the start menu, and "Group"=1 tells windows that this is a folder. Once you have created all the folders you want you can use your file explorer to drag and drop the shortcuts into whatever folder you want
Thanx so much "artukas613" that program was exactly what i was looking for.....worked a treat. Thank you to all who helped.

I don't understand how to create a folder. I held an icon, then dragged it over another icon, resulting in [2] icons in one folder and renamed it, but, when I moved each icon out of the folder, the folder disappeared! I want to create a folder with some documents and pdf files. I can't figure out how to create a folder.

Create a folder by dragging one icon over another. Then add at least two files you want kept in that folder before removing the unwanted files. As long as you have two files in the folder it won't disappear.

You can't create a folder to documents ONLY Apps. The desktop folders aren't file system folders so you can't save files in them.
You may be able to create a shortcut that's saved to the desktop but that's not something the default launcher can do (i think).
increase nr. shortcuts in a folder
Does anyone know how to increase the number of shortcuts in a folder?
I have root and dpi is set on 420.
