I relay on tethering for all my internet needs (browsing and ps3) All of the apps available heat my phone up so hot that the moto logo on the battwry cover turned black and fell off. Already gone througj 2 batteries in 3 months.

You posted this in the wrong section.
However, if you've got the phone plugged in, you can remove the battery. You're killing batteries due to the heat and the constant charging. Lithium Ion batteries don't enjoy being roasted, nor do they enjoy being charged all the time.
Also, if the phone is getting that hot, perhaps you should place an icepack on it, making sure to put something between the phone and the ice pack to prevent the condensation/moisture from destroying your phone.
I'm assuming that you're doing "illegal" tethering, in which case, using it as your primary source of internet, I'd hope Verizon never gets keen to you or your bill will bankrupt you for sure.

Exactly... you might want to rethink your tethering strategy.
I keep my phone on the dock with a mini fan for the heat. I tried pulling the battery but phone won't boot without it.

Take the battery out after the phone is on.
you cant just take out the battery and plug it in, i just tried. i leave mine in the window and check on it every now and then, if it gets over 100 degrees i stop tethering for awhile, but i can play DCUO on my laptop for about 3 hours before i have to shut it down if its cold enough outside.

I've ran my phone without the battery installed quite a few times, never had problems..
You must turn on phone without charger plugged in, then plug in charger, then remove battery.

It doesn't work I just tried, followed your steps exactly. My Droid 2 shuts off and tries to restart but comes to a screen with a battery symbol and a question mark inside of the battery, basically the phone is saying " wait, where the **** is my battery". If all your guys' phone's work without the battery then mine is like the only one that doesn't.

Are you stock? if not what ROM do you use because I'm running Liberty 1.5 and I just tried it connected to AC power and it rebooted like what was said.

I think I was using a version of Fission ROM, but I don't remember.. I don't tether too much anymore since my work got wifi installed.
Reboot is everywhere on this forum and I did have a problem with it in the beginning. Owning the phone for three weeks now and I can honestly say that the reboot issue just went away.
The reboot issue may be related to installing new applications. The first week I owned the device I constantly downloaded new applications from the market, and next thing you know I get a reboot whenever I charge my phone.
So I did something different after restoring it to factory setting. Every time I download a new application I re-started my G2X and never had the reboot issue again.
I have read that most of the reboot complaints arise from the first few days after owning the device. So what do most people do after getting their phone during the first week? Download applications! Try re-starting your device after you install a new application from the market and see if you still get the reboot the next time you recharge the device.
I gave the G2X some time, and for me to get acquainted to it, and I can honestly say that I'm loving it more. Reading this forum only made me paranoid that this device is simply faulty, but giving it a chance to do its job simply made it more and more amazing everyday.

My opinion is strictly comprised from anecdotal evidence but I believe the reboots to be more dual-core/battery related. I don't think they're currently handled correctly in the system. I honestly don't believe there is anything that we can do on our end until LG releases the updates.
Could be. I do NOT have reboots on my phone running CM7. The battery driver is stupid so one minute the phone will say 39% then dead the next. But the phone was legitimately dead and wouldn't boot without a charge.
I've had mine on for 5 days before I broke down and flashed the latest CM7 nightly.
I don't run any crazy software that I didn't on my Nexus One or other. If I do download something, I'll play with it and uninstall it.
Here is my list:
Word Feud
Kingdoms Live
XDA Premium
Launcher Pro
WiFi Explorer
Rom Manager Premium
SiMi Clock

I recently got a phone off craigslist so was really tensed abt the reboot problem. Didn't have any reboot issue while charging (I used the charger i use for G2 rather than the stock one as i heard complaints). But as said above, i left the phone at 49% in the night. Got up in the morning and then used it for 3hours straight and guess what.. the status still said 48%. And then when i was using suddenly i got a battery low popup for a fraction of second and then phone went down. As said above, couldn't get it to start at all unless i charged it. So is there a way to fix this with out rooting and all that stuff?

As of right now, no. That's the big issue most of us are having.

No. How do we do that? Mine is not rooted. Still running stock android without a sim card as im waiting for my unlock code ..
The calibration i know is let it die and charge it to 100%.. But even while charging , the battery % doesn't give the right info unless i remove and replug the charger in multiple times.

I guess somehow my G2X decided to act out on me for some reason. Woke up this morning with the phone off after leaving it charging all night, then the reboot cycle started. I didn't know it was this bad when it does happen. The only changes I did that I can think of was that I played a lot of games yesterday. I did notice the back near the camera heating up after maybe 10mins of playing, and was also on the phone for awhile.
I love this phone, and I'm impressed with the hardware aspect of it, but it tested my patience with the rebooting. I was actually scared for a bit that I won't be able to have any phone for the day.
If this continues I'm pretty sure this is going back. Just happy I have three months with costco for an exchange. Waiting for the release of GB, and hoping they also have a fix for the reboot issue. If the HTC Sensation does hold up with no issues then exchange it is. Yikes
Has Anyone ever heard of a phone that's Powered Off, that Turns On itself Everytime I Plug it in to Charge? I Gotta admit its become Annoying as Hell! If so, How do I Fix this Stupidass Problem?
Thanx in Advance!

My Palm Pixi always did the same thing, when I plugged it in with a dead battery.
One of my previous Evos did that. The screen would freeze completely and flicker - if sound was playing it would continue on whatever note was playing when it froze. It started doing this about once a day, then it did it all the time. It would freeze on the splashscreen so it would take 15-20 attempts to get it to boot fully, and then only run for about 15 minutes before it would do it again. Sometimes when it finally booted it would say that the battery was at 0% despite a full charge. I then started to notice that if I put it on the charger while it was off, it would turn on as soon as I took it off.
The phone wasn't rooted - it was a replacement I had just gotten - so I couldn't try flashing anything.
The techs at the Sprint store couldn't tell me what was wrong with it. If yours continues to get worse then I'd take it in for a replacement.

Sounds almost like mine, Except mine turns on when I'm plugging it in... I recently tried a new phone charger and it Still did it just Not as much so its kind of hard to determine if its actually the phone itself, or the Cheap chargers that I have?
Also Anyone know what Car mode is? It's been Enabling itself Without me actually physically doing it myself, and when I turn it off its right back on very next Reboot!
Oh yeah by the way...
Thanx for Everyones input!
Well it looks like my sensation just killed itself and has gone to the mobile phone graveyard in the sky.
It was on about 85% battery just lying on the side, not charging, then suddenly the screen flashes, it turns itself off and then nothing.
I take the battery out for a while, put it back in , nothing. I connect the charger, it doesn't even light up to suggest it's charging.
Absolutely dead and it's 100% stock with no mods.. Oh well. Off to the HTC shop tomorrow..
Maybe the battery is completely dead. Try charging it for an hour, unplug the charger, and see if you could turn it on.
Can you get to the bootloader?
Try holding down the power button longer. Mine used to require a very long press to turn on.
Matt
held power button for 5 minutes and nothing lol
It had 85% battery then woosh.. a flicker.. and nothing
Sorry to hear that.. keep us updated.
Sorry to hear.. that suxx.. R.I.P poor Sensation
that's a sensational headline
Maybe it overheated. A friend's thunderbolt overheated and wouldn't turn on for almost 3 hours.

Well done HTC you done it again.
I think mine just did the same thing. WTF? I am rooted, flashed Android Revolution HD 1.1.7. Everything seemed fine. It reloaded all of my apps automatically and everything was fine. Was messing around in my office and went to check it and I was getting the "black screen" when I tried to wake it. Pulled the battery and it won't come on at all. Can't get into the bootloader or anything. Have it plugged into my computer with the USB and the LED indicator was flashing a few times, my computer recognizes it off and on but it has alerted me a couple of times now. Weird. I will leave it off for a little while and see if I can boot it back up.

I have the same situation with my phone. I also added the black and white circle batterymod from themes and apps section. I got it to boot when its on wall charger. Seems that itdrained the battery from about 75% to 0% in about 7 hours of idling when I was sleeping, luckily the alarm still worked, but the screen didn't go on before wall charging.
Hope this helps. Going to flash some other ROM, god I miss CM7.

That sounds like mine, apart from the charging bit
Took it to the HTC shop and they have to send it away to their "techie" people to confirm it's "dead dead" before they will replace.
Should be 10 days, could be 30.
If i'd bought it online from them apparently i'd have more rights and they'd replace on the spot.... nice......
Didn't even get a loan phone and this is one of HTC's "brand" shops, even detailed on their site. (
So not only you can have death grip and unresponsive screen...but now it's the whole phone that die??

Ok, So I got my S3 I believe October, anyways I rooted it and installed roms etc etc because I was a flashaholic, every rom I tried maps would get instant lock with a very accurate reading, but when it came to navigation and other stuff that use location all it will say was "Searching for location or w/e it says". It didn't really bother me, then I noticed that If I let my phone die all the way I would not be able to charge the phone or get very lucky pulling the battery out or pulling the plug and then rinse repeat and it would miraculously charge, didn't really bother me, because I work at raadioshack and I bought a external battery charger in case I did let it die, in which case I never did. But now today, lol, I installed a new rom(In no way was it the roms fault) It was goodness 8.0.1 port, installed lean kernel 1.8 and I did this with about 38% battery. Watched a couple shows on the phone so I could let it die and calibrate the battery, but at like 4% I bought a game and I wanted to play it more so I got my charger and charged it. Went to the kitchen for a few seconds heard a weird sound out of nowhere. Went to reach my phone and I smelled a burning smell, I was like WTF? My phone was hot as hell, really HOT. so I unplugged the charger and I installed notice that the charger was burnt, and then I smelled the charging port and it smells burnt also. I think that's it, the end for my S3, I mean as of now 2:30 am I am using my external charger to charge my battery but I think I'm going to have to call verizon up for a replacement and it's my first time doing this so I hope they give me a replacement, didn't really want to go this option. but wish me luck lol.
Edit 1: Lol I just realized my usb port isnt working anymore. Is there anyway I can go back to stock using adb or something
