openvpn got working - HTC Desire S

For those who have already rooted their phones and need ovpn, i've compiled tun.ko module, which suites stock ROM (2.6.35.10-g13f6602)
All you need is to put it into /system/lib/modules/ from the archive attached.
Also, you can find there working binary (and lib) from cm7.
Just place the binary into /system/xbin/ and lib to /system/lib/
Enjoy!

my desire has a kernel version of 206.35.10-g8ae2b2f... will this also work with me?

It shouldn't, since kernel has a strict version checking.
(you can assure it out in log or dmesg right after insmod)
I could compile the module for you version, if you would test it though.

hey mih_,
just wanted to know if it is ok for you, if i use your files in my custom rom?
that would be great... i use your fix too and it´s working fantastic.
thanks and regards

it's ok for me, no problem.
but i've just taken bin and lib from cyanogenmod7 and just compiled the module from htc sources.
by the way, since OTA version has changed i had to recompile it again.
i've attached the module for 2.6.35.10-g241e3af

thx a lot... i´m working to update my rom with the ota, but will take some time... good to have a updated version ready when i will release next build.
can i ask you if you can have a look at my problem with the android.policy.jar and framework-res.apk? there are some recource id´s and global actions mixed up and broke the reboot menu.
posted everything nessesarry on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048203&page=4
sounds your a little fitter than me in compiling stuff
would be cool if you can help me here

Do I need to root first or does it root when I flash and what does it exactly do. does it remove my programs or anything like that?
Thanks in advance
Excuse me but if I used your old method of rooting. Does this still work?
Updated without any problems. I assume that most of these "improvements" are more under the hood than stuff that would be noticable to the average user. Thank you for your work. I hope we get more talented people on this project. Of coarse this project didn't "explode" with new stuff multiple times a day, there's only a small fraction of people working on it. Once again, I wish I could help with something to get the ball rolling better, but I don't know how to code and I'm no linux guru either.
Helping finding bugs, giving help to people trying to do whatever, and giving feedback is contributing.

Yeah I updated with no problems also.
Also, this is VERY important. If you have Auto Mount, you need to dismount the SD Card in order for this to work.
What is -03 optomizations? And is this a different version than you posted last night at sdx
Sorry for the dumb question, but what's the difference between this and "one click root"? And could someone please explain what installing one the these modified kernels do? Thanks.

It will Flash a Custom Kernel. Which will give you root access. It wont delete anything.
This is updated? Can we just run it again or should one remove then re-install
Well re-ran it doesnt seem to cause any harm lol

Awesome work as usual. couple questions.
1. I know you have busybox included but its an older version "current "1.18.0" and I can not get that to install after doing your kernel. If I use just he exploit method I can ugrade it via the market.
2. The version number is still reading V1? do you plan on changing that with updates so we can tell what we have installed for us dumb peoples lol
Thanks so much donation coming your way
Worked with a hiccup but it must've been my fault. Other than that, awesome job my friend.

Doing a file comparison to 3.29, the only changes were 2 bin camera related files, framework and the lib for the camera, so it looks like this update only fixes something related to the camera as no apk's were touched, so this is a very minor update, hense the minor build # change

Thanks, makes life a little easier.
Actually, i have some commands which come in really handy when you use ubuntu on a tab.
sudo apt-get remove appmenu-gtk indicator-appmenu overlay-scrollbar liboverlay-scrollbar-0.1-0
This will remove the global menus and that annoying scrollbar so you have to use your mouse/trackpad less often.
*edit: Hard reboot right after the install-part.
*edit2 git was missing on my ubuntu-install. I'd suggest you to add it to your apt-get line.
looked at the script, nice
Although not that i think you care but you might:

If you can get me like a guide or something to do that, i would love to. im working on something else right now, but should be able to do that really quick. next update will have an update feature to automatically check for updates.
i know this is a noob question (i think you wil get more off them since the one-click installer for windows)
- how to correctly use this script
- will this affect the working off my dualboot configuration (for one click installer)
very excited for this. is there a guide for this script or can we just execute?
download the script, right click on the file and mark it as an executable under properties.
open a terminal, ch to the folder you´ve downloaded the script and run
$sudo ./kernelupdater.sh
I would love to get Linux Mint (any flavor, but considering our hardware, prob LMDE or LXDE is most realistic, although IDK if any debian flav is compiled for ARM?) built into a flashable image. Ubuntu is wasted on a machine with limited RAM and a non-standard file system.
I am not a developer, but I certainly would help as much as possible any person who would like to get moving and use our hardware to its fullest extent!
Like I said, any interested parties, please PM me.

[i9001][MODULES]Tun.ko{VPN},CIFS.ko,PPP MOdules

If u dont know what CIFS and TUN are,u probably don't need it
Instructions:
1)Extract the modules inside the zip to,say, /system/lib/modules
2)Fire up terminal and type this command
Code:
insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko
insmod /system/lib/modules/cifs.ko
Same procedure to load PPP Modules, just change the names
DONE!
Note:If u use above method ,u need to execute above commands on every reboot!
if u want to avoid that hassle, use an app on XDA called "MODULE LOADER"(Google it/Use Search) and bamm..done!

It wasn't just about overclocking, he added modules, managed to fix the compass with a hack (bear in mind that even HTC couldn't release a fixed compass version), fixed 720p recording, all that on a closed source kernel . he also managed to get the sense 3.0 lockscreen (ring + 4 icons) to work on desire. not to mention his earlier work with extended power menu, battery circle icons etc...

Thanks man! . And a few friends and I are having a look at it. I have international.. With raymanfx latest changes to international. On github... He made changes to audio and media.. I was having issues and replacing them made my phone sound so so much better so I thought maybe the OMX would do something (battle hero removed them from a international release because of issues)
No problem. Hope something good develops.

It still reboots unless I remove them. I was hoping they wouldn't :/ because there's two things I've noticed about cm and I thought maybe someone could shed some light onto it.
Its pretty much cm but it still thinks it an a Samsung galaxy device so I don't think the libs for apps are being downloaded properly as apps crash (if I remove the specific apps libs) they stop crashing. Maybe it's downloading Samsung specific libs for apps and not something for stock Android?
2. Maybe if I have just specific libs and 64 libs. Instead of everything.. They won't crash.... I have no idea. (the OMX ones I mean)
