Skype is not available in the Android Market in China or Japan.
Skype has been tested on HTC and Motorola devices with Android OS 2.1 and above. It may work on other Android phones, but we can’t guarantee full functionality or compatibility. We’re aware of some problems with the Samsung Galaxy S, and we’re looking to address these in the future.
It’s free to use Skype in a WiFi zone. If you use Skype with a mobile data connection, operator charges may apply, so we recommend an unlimited data plan.
In the US, Skype for Android phones works over WiFi only.
A fair use policy applies to unlimited subscriptions.

So no 3G calls in the US, is this done via different APKs or are they detecting the IP login?
Anyone have a non-us apk they want to share to see if it works here?
i have to create a new account using my device (HTC HD2) now its up and running

All,
Now that Skype is available on the Android market, has anyone managed to extract the apk file (It is still not available in the market in all regions)
thanks in advance
Anyone have an alternative download for Skype? Blocked in China so can't get it from the Marketplace or from Skype.com
Just replaced iPhone3 with DesireHD and lost Skype functionality - among other things. Still LOVE the DHD though

did you have any luck yet ? i am in china - searching for a android skype installer .... please help to tunnel the great (fire)wall
The new one works fine over phone's network. But still does not have front cam video support. I found a link to one that was supposed to work for the TB and have front cam support but it would not let me login. And it wasn’t an account issue as I can login fine on the one without front cam support....
Oh well....
And the list of contacts remains at the account?
Works on my defy
i have downloaded skype and it works on my Advent vega tablet but how do i set up the built-in camera to work during calls if possible??
Has anyone managed to get the new gtalk with video working with the gingerbread leak? I've got the app installed and running fine, but can't establish a voice or video connection. Reading through other device sections it seems as though some are having success on 2.3.3 roms.
Is this something we'll need an updated kernel for?

I have tried it on the gb leak as well as cm7 which is 2.3.4 and I cannot get the video/audio to work either
Hi guys,
Is it possible to install? How can I do?
I already looked here on the forum but do not find any conclusive answer.
It looks that the Desire S do not have the root accessible to be able to instal the Gtalk version with video. That is correct?
Thanks.
indeen, root is needed for the modded gtalk with video chat. so without s-off there's no new gtalk.
if you have s-off + root, here's the place to look for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056793
It can help others....
I am using an alternative app, it is not 100%, but runs fine.
Search on the market for VTOK. It is Google talk video chat.
I think Desire S need to be rooted to use it
I use Fring
Hi guys,
I just got miself first android phone. Coming over from long time nokia user (since first symbian phone) I need some time to adjust to the new system and feel. Anyways I installed skype from market and I cant get video talk to work. Is this not available for this phone or I'm doing something wrong ?
I searched around for skype with video for my model but no luck.
Thanks
At the moment is not available. There's a mod around xda for enabling skype to other devices but I don't know if it works with the chacha...
I uninstalled skype from market and tried few skype installation I found around the web for 2.3.3 android. Now when I search market to install that working skype again it doesnt display skype anymore. What did I do and how can I fix this ?
I am wondering if anyone knows when a 2.3.4 rom will come out because that is when google added official support for video chat to talk. I know I can use apps like qik, etc, but my wife would really like to be able to do phone>PC chat so she can talk to our niece.
So far the apps I've found that do phone>pc chat don't support the sensation yet. I was hoping root would help me get a proper 2.3.4 rom.
There is a hacked version of gtalk that make it posible to use audio chat and see video chat of others but the sensation cam wont work.
Just search for gtalk video chat 2.3.3
Just try this:

In case gTalk doesn't work with HTC Sensation, And if you want to use skype for video call from phone to PC, you can download a "special" version of skype in the link below:

Hopefully it works for you. I know mine works!
