[Q] My apps - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a 1 touch method of opening "my apps" rather than through the market app ?

In the app drawer, in the upper left part, you'll find "All apps" and "My apps". You can use this instead of the market. It is much faster and doesn't need internet connection.
Hope this is what you're looking for...

Thanks for reply. I don't think that was what I was after.
When you go into "market" on the right you have a button for "my apps" which lists all your apps on the left and shows which ones have updates, which you can then click to update them.
Not too sure what you mean by apps drawer. Is that the button on top right of home screen?

Perhaps you can give us some insight into what you're trying to accomplish here. I guess you just want to be able to quickly check for updates? I've never had a problem opening the market and just clicking "My Apps", always seemed fast enough for me.
There's not way that I know of that you could make a shortcut to that part of the market program, sorry.

Yeah not sure what you're trying to do.
Do you want to directly see which ones need updating? You can just click the automatic updates so it updates itself.
Do you want to just see your downloaded apps? Click the button on the top left on your homescreen. This launches your 'app drawer'. On the top you'll see My Apps. Click that and and it'll only show you your downloaded/installed apps.

Oddly enough the only option I have there is notify about app updates. Oh well, bug spray. :-L
Returning it anyways, going to wait a while longer till they can finish out 3.0 and make it stable like 2.2 and 2.3 are. And sorry motorola, even rooting my xoom doesnt make it okay that you didnt include SD card kernel.
Shame shame, Wont buy an Ipad :<X but will wait a 6 months or so for a tablet android device, price comes down and stability.

[Q] Newbie Transformer Navigation Qs

Hi all,
this is my first Android device and as such I have some very basic Qs that I am sure any one of you can answer! I have searched high and low for the answer, and after 2 hrs searching in vain I ask for your help!
1) How do you close an application natively (i.e. without a 'task killer') -> i.e. you want to EXIT it as you no longer need it and don't want it running in the background consuming power?
2) How do you natively view a list and switch to an application currently running/open in the background?
On my iTouch both these functions are done by pressing and holding the start button - but I am yet to come across what is the equivalent on my android device!
Thanks!
to kill a app in the system u go to settings, then applications then manage applications then click the all tab and find the app click it then it will say force stop u click that
to switch apps for mulitasking u click the button on the bottom black bar left of the home button the one that looks like 2 squares layered it brings a list with thumbnails u can scroll it to see whats there and click to app switch
Thanks for attempting to help me.

That button shows 'recently used apps' not currently opened apps.
i.e. if you use a task killer to kill all running apps, it will still show them when you push the button, much like 'recent files' on your PC. As such when I push that button I do not know which of them are opened at the moment and running in the background.
Hence I still don't know where to find a list to easily switch my currently opened apps
And in relation to killing them via the system menu, is it possible somehow to create a shortcut for it on the main window, so I don't need to go to that long navigation to close an app?
Thanks for your advise/help so far!

to switch between apps u must use the app switcher in honeycomb, other wise to see whats currently running in the background go to settings then applications then running. manually u can use a task manager to kill apps and of course its still gonna show those in the app switching list because its been cached there temporarily with the thumbnails.
there may also be apps that can currently tell you what apps are running aswell u should check that out
if your goal is too see what could be using up battery check your battery status through the about section in settings. other wise theres not much to worry as the 1gb ram is suffice

*FIX* Get your computer to see MT as Mass Storage

Thanks to idbl_fanatic, over at Android Forums for finding this!
1. Install Anycut from the android market (it's free)
2. Open Anycut and select "New Shortcut"
3. Now click Activity
4. Scroll down the list of activities until you see "Select COM Port Mode" and click it. Just hit ok to accept the default name
5. You will see a "shortcut created" notification. Go back to your homescreen and look for the new shortcut
6. Once you click the new shortcut you'll see three radio buttons. Simply change to Mass Storage

I actually didn't find this, someone else had posted it on one of the many forums I go to, I just passed it along.
Regardless, it is working flawlessly!
I could cry actually, because I was so scared that my Triumph had a defect, but it actually turned out to be fixable!
I just click on the "turn on usb mass storage" (or something like that) button. Was that not working or something? Downloading an app to do the same thing seems like a bit of overkill to me.

Sometime the TRIUMPH don't see that it is plugged in to the PC, and nothing you can do will fix it.
Ah, that makes sense then. I was curious why you had to do all that, and know I know.
Yeah, this is for those whose PC would not pick up the phone for USB transferring. Keep this in mind as some people have reported the USB working one day, then the next day it won't pick up.

Just wanted to mention that if you're using Launcher Pro or other non stock launchers, you can already create shortcuts without having to install another app. Otherwise, great tip.

Any luck finding which app it goes to, though? On ADW, they don't list everything all jumbled together... they have it spread out in quite a few little submenus.
had no idea there was an issue with this. Mine has taken a wile a few times but never not recognized at all

I don't know about ADW but on launcher pro, you just long press on an empty area of your home screen and select Shortcuts from the long press menu. I can only assume you would do the same thing in adw but I could be wrong.

That's what you do, I just have no idea where the shortcut would be Although I'm still looking for it.
Today I was having an issue with my phone plugging in to my computer, and this little guide saved my butt. Strangely it's been working on and off just fine, and even when it doesn't "connect" PDANet still sees it has appeared. But thanks to this guide it's now working as a pseudo-modem AND a USB device both. Kudos.

I was wondering if you could post some step by step instructions on how to make that short cut in Launcher Pro. I know how to get the shortcut started but I am lost after that.

It should be under add>Shortcuts > Activities> Hidden Menu. The process for ADW is very similar.

Any Inspire owners able to multi-select and delete in the new Google Play app?

I've installed the new Google Play app that has "installed" and "all" lists under My Apps, and the ability to delete apps from the "all" list. However, I keep hearing about others being able to multi-select by long pressing an item and then selecting other items, and deleting more than one app at a time. I'm not able to do this no matter what I try. Has anyone else got it to work on an Inspire?

I didn't know that was possible, but I can't either. When I have an app selected and try to long-press a second app, both get deselected.
After the first one has been selected (long pressed), tap on the rest.

That's what I've been doing. If I long press an item and then let up, it just opens that item to show it to me. I tried long pressing in the middle of the item, long pressing on just the delete symbol for the item, nothing works. Long pressing on the delete symbol just asks me if I want to delete that item.

OK, I laughed. I'll keep trying, but it just doesn't seem to be working for me. If I ever "get lucky" with this one, I'll report back.
more info and questions!
I've been reading some reviews of the new version and my screen looks slightly different from the ones in the reviews. At the top of the review photos, in the "all" app listing screen, I see not only a search icon (the magnifying glass) but just to its right, three small squares on top of each other. In some apps this is associated with switching from "single select" to "multiple select".
In other screens, in particular one where several items have already been highlighted (selected), there is a delete icon (the circle with a line through it) by itself at the upper right where the search and the "multiple select" icons were before.
From the screen shots it certainly looks like you select the "multiple select" icon, which then changes to a "delete" icon, and you select the items you wish to batch delete, finishing the deletion by pressing the "delete" icon at the upper right of the screen.
No one and none of the reviews have actually mentioned having to press a "multiple select" icon before being able to do a batch deletion.

I'm going to try backing up my ROM, running the no-sense script to remove Sense, and seeing if the new version works then. Once I've used the batch uninstall I'll reflash the ROM and presumably all will be well.

Can you explain how, because I 've walked through all the menus and not figured out how to disable.
Thanks
Go to settings, applications, then you have a list of apps installed. At the bottom there are two signs... I am not sure what their exact wording is in English but you have to click on the right one with three horizontal lines... From the popup menu you choose "show system apps" (or some thin like that) and scroll all the way down to "YellowPage". If you click on it you have two buttons at the top, the left of which says "Deactivate". You click it, it gives you a warning about stability, just ignore it and voilĂ , no Yellow pages in the dialer app! Hope it helps!
You can use zenui dialer & contacts from Asus. It's in de Play Store, free and without advertising. I know I'm very happy with it.
Thank you , of course that helps.
