I have had my Huawei S7 Android tablet for a week now, and I'm really longing for some Rom hacks - especially to move apps to SD since it apparently only has room for 128MB of apps according to SystemPanel and I'm getting "low space" notifications all the time and thus can't install updates, Gtalk won't run (I think it's related), etc.
Rooting was really simple, just download and run UniversalAndroot.apk but the next steps I'm a bit uncertain about; finding and installing the right Recovery image, then if I succeed installing some apps2sd solution (Darktremor?) or just some Froyo rom.
Another issue is that the SD card is almost not used for anything, seems like all my apps uses internal memory instead of external, maybe that's a 2.1 thing. I transfered a bunch of .avi movies to my microsd card, but Rockplayer can't find them unless I move them to internal memory.

Hi. Just pre-ordered here in the States, hopefully this will ship by the 7th of Nov. One quick question is the screen in your device resistive or capacitive? As for your dilemma with storage I'm sure that soon a solution will be found by someone here.

Resistive.
From what I have seeing, the resistive screen is pretty responsive, so this is not a major problem. The small storage space is something that must be addressed if this device is going to last. The archos 7 had this problem in the beggining untill a custom ROM took care of this by doubling the storage size. I think that the HS7 will be fixed in this way first then a2sd might kick in later on.

Fixed.
The internal storage memory in the S7 is called "SDCARD" for some stupid reason (have they just bought a lot of cheap 8GB SD Cards and glued them to the motherboard, not bothering with formatting and giving them a different name like "STORAGE" or "DISK"?).
This apparently confuses several applications.
The name for the external Micro SD card, I found out by using Terminal Emulator, is "SDCARD2", so by specifying to RockPlayer that /this/ is where to look for files (SDCARD2 doesn't show up when browsing the directories, not in RockPlayer, not in Astro File Manager, not in stock Video player...) I am finally able to play .avi files from my MicroSD
Good going!
Wow
Ok so got mine yesterday at BestBuy and im very impressed with this tablet. Put my tmobile sim card in and works great for data and calls. GPS also works very well.
It would be great to root and put Froyo on this. Screen is very responsive and fit and finish is great. At $299 they have a home run.
the screen is good until you try to double tap its nice but mines is going back to bestbuy and i will be getting samsung tab
Got mine over the weekend along with a Cruz Reader and a Cruz Tablet from Best Buy for comparison. Hands down the Huawei is far superior. The capacitive screen alone is just not enough to overcome the rest of the shortcomings of the Cruz Tablet. The S& screen is the best resistive screen I have used, add in BT and 2.1 and I am happy so far. Now we just need a chef to start cooking....
Got mine yesterday!
I just picked mine up for Best Buy yesterday and I am still playing with it to make my final decision. But for the most part I am liking it. The screen responsiveness it pretty good not as good and my HTC EVO which is what I am use too but it is far better than what I was expecting. A hugh plus is that it has the Android market and front and rear cameras. The only down side it that there is still not much to choose from as far as apps to use the cameras. I got this device to eliminate carrying my Mac from place to place and still be able to post to decision boards and work on my papers when I'm away from home. So far this device has exceeded my expectations.
What is everyone else feeling about their S7?

So far I am impressed with this little tablet. You get a 7 in 3G capable tablet with all the Google Apps (Market, Maps, GMail) for 200 less then the Galaxy Tab.
Two big down faults. It is running 2.1 currently (promised to be upgraded Q1 2011) and it is resistive touch. No I will say its probably one of the better resistive touch screens I have used so its not to bad.
There also may be a storage issue. Even though there is 8GB installed, its not for APPS. You have only around 180MB available with the default apps installed. Hopefully this can be remapped with the next update (or XDA members do some magic)
Battery life might be around 6 hours, 3-4 with 3G on.. Not totally sure yet.
But I am more impressed with this guy then the $399 Veiwsonic GTablet. Out of the box is just a better experience and you get google apps with no hacking.
We will have full review later on at MyTabletLife.com

Huawei S7 Android Tablet
Hello All,
I purchased this Tablet a couple of days ago and a little disappointed. I am with T-Mobile and the reception i get on this is only EDGE. Can anyone on T-MO confirm if you are able to get 3G on this? Also, when using Launcherpro or ADW, I am unable to place widgets on the desktop. Anyone experiencing this?
3G
Just got my S7 Tablet, will verify to see if I get 3g reception.
Our review of the Huawei Ideos S7 has been posted. Visit MyTabletLife.com to check it out.
This tablet needs to get in more hands. Huawei has said it will get 2.2 early 2011 but the Snapdragon processor in this baby is begging for it NOW! lol

got me one
I got one 3 days ago and so far I am very impressed. And yes, it is crying out for froyo. So far I like everything in it. I am using it with Simple Mobile with no problem thou I have not tried the 3G since I use clear for my internet connection. The battery life is even better than my HD2. The only downside are.
1. The front facing Camera it is not fully integrated with the system. Fring does not recognize it so for video conference uses the rear one (pointless). I tried other apps and they don't see it either, they see only one camera. The main camera app does recognize thou. This could get fixed with froyo.
2. I takes quite a bit to get used to a resistive screen after using a capacitor one.
3. Market is restricted, but you can root the tablet and use Market Enabler.
4. No video out (for now) but it does have room for a ...docking station? or some proprietary add ons.
5. The speakers are good and loud, but connected to external speakers is the opposite.
All of these things don't bother me much except for the front facing camera problem.
I can't wait to find a case or something, it looks too nice to drop it or scratch it.
totally agree about the case! I spent 45 minutes at BBY yesterday trying every case they have for e-Readers, etc but nothing was a good fit. The closest I found was a Wenger Swiss Army pouch, but I really want something that will protect it all the time. I know myself well enough to know that a pouch just means I will drop it taking it out.
I am not sure what you mean about Market restrictions though, I haven't run into this on mine, are you sure it is not just an App Version/OS Version problem?
Today I tried SIM card from both T-Mobile and At&T.
At&t- VOICE worked, however could not get any data working on this device. I hope this isnt the case. I am going to try again. CAN ANYONE confirm they tried an AT&T SIM and data didnt work for you also???
T-Mobile- Voice & DATA worked, however it is EDGE ONLY. T-mobile 3G did not work.
This will be the shame if this is the case. The box says 3G, so people will return this for not working. I am hoping the AT&T data problems were a fluke.

AT&T?
I just picked this from Best Buy. Great little device for it's price. I haven't been able to get either voice or data to work on ATT. I see a few people with success with T-Mobile. To the ATT folks here has anyone got it to work, and if so did you have anything special to do?
Thanks in advance.
Well. I got a G-Tablet back at first. one of the first on these forums with one if you look back to the original G-Tablet thread (think it got closed after 1000 whatever pages) I took it back right before my 30 day period ended because of the 30 day window, and because I couldn't flash anything near the end in CW. had some bad blocks in the built in memory I think.. but I loved the device
I've since had the Archos 101 and thought the G-Tablet was much, much better built. and I'd like to get another now that the ROM's and stability have improved.. For the most part everything works pretty good now right.. Fully featured, games all work. Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, stuff like that. What about Gameloft games? NOVA? I'd love to play that on my G-Tab if I got one. Does all that work? Do racing games work, or is the accelerometer slightly off alignment?
If anyone wants to maybe point out what still has issues. I'd love to hear. as I think I'll be getting another one here soon.
Most Gameloft games arent optimized for Android Tablet so most dont work. I got Hawks to work but that got boring o.o. All games ive tried from market worked fine. ITs not the gtab anymore that doesnt make games work, its the devs that need to update their games for higher resolutions n stuff.
Good lord !! First Minecraft and now Dead Space came out o nowhere w/o warning !!

Than you missed some VERY good games. Get them both, DS 1 and 2 are cheap now ~ 15 GBP at shopto.co.uk !
I would play them first, since Dead Space for mobiles phones takes place between DS 1 and 2 !
Topic: I played the Android version now a bit, but EA seem to messed up the controls -.- ... would have been to good to be true anyway.
1) Camera movement is like those stupid gameloft games, you have to swipe like 4 times to make a 360° move
2) Putting plasma cutter into horizontal (and vertical) position, still requires you to semi flip your phone like on the iPhone >_< ... good lord, as this device doesn't have enough buttons >_<.
Anyway, great game !
German only?
Nevermind, just the install screens aren't in English, the game is.

+1 about the controls... but I hope they'll fix 'em up... it's in beta right now.
You sure it's beta? ... it's v.1.1.13 or something. Or does it anywhere indicate to be beta?
I don't think it is beta it just says I have a 60 minute trial....

Honestly I don't really think its bad. Yea you have to swipe but you also get the option to do a 180 degree turn just by hitting triangle, so turning around to look behind is quick and simple and the swiping gives you the precision. I've yet to see any game have true joystick emulation.
From what I've played, it was darn fun. Touch pads are done perfectly here, camera is kind of tough though

I'm not sure where this myth comes from but I've never seen any solid evidence to back it up. Cheap or fake SD cards are bad for ALL devices and its a pretty widespread problem. Chances are if you find a 32gb class 10 card for less then $50 its probably fake. I purchased an A-Data 32gb class ten card and have had no issues. Benchmarked it on my phone and writes at 14mb/s and reads at 18mb/s. I've had it for over two months now and ran about 20 games off of it so far with no issues

I just did some searching and couldn't find it but this has been discussed in a few places. I originally read it over at the B&N nook section because many guys over there run CM7 off an SD card in the device as opposed to rooting it. They were experiencing performance issues with Class 10 cards. Its not regular read and write speed but I believe random read and write that perform poorly for some reason.
Here is one post I could find on the nook section with a detailed comparison, but I know there were others:

Yea I've seen tests like this before but it never seems to be consistent between both devices and card type/manufacturer. It may be an issue with certain devices, or certain cards or a combination of the two. I did a ton of research because I kept hearing this but once I dug a little deeper I found that there is a huge problem with people buying fake cards. They claim to be a certain brand or class but really aren't. Amazon's customer reviews were plagued with this.
So from my personal experience, I've had no issues with my SD card in my play (had it since June). This is the card if anyone is interested: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211558
Well...I just played 6 hours out of my 60 minute trial, and the game's still running
Seriously, you guys want the real analog feel but when you actually use it,it does more harm than good.
It's not precise, one small move and the camera goes all over the place.
I'm glad the recent heavy hitters (Dead Space, Bad Company 3 and Minecraft) use the swipe to look.
Believe me,I wanted that true analog feel as well but after experiencing it, it's horrible and just doesn't work as a touch only input.
I'm upset I waited this long to buy Civilization V and try this. I have it set to 1080p and it plays beautifully via Splashtop on my Infinity. I highly recommend trying it if you haven't and it's something you might be interested in. You can pick it up as cheap as $5 sometimes and I think they even have a free demo. I searched and surprisingly it didn't look like this subject had been discussed on the TF700 forums yet.
I know Diablo 3 is supposed to work too, but I haven't tried it yet. I feel since Diablo 3 is a little more reaction dependent it probably isn't as ideal a game to play with this method. Has anyone tried it?
Has anyone tried any other desktop games via Splashtop? Good, Bad?
Thx for the tip
Thank you for the tip, gonna try it out straight away.:good:
You can tell I'm old school because I sometimes use Splashtop to play MSN Spades
OS is WIN7 pro.
I tried Borderlands 2 via Jump Desktop -- that was a no go. Now I've gone over to Saints Row 3 with a few friends -- might give both JD and Splashtop a whirl and see if it runs.
Just to be clear: it was only a test, and I was sitting in the living room with a normal keyboard attached (via USB). I wouldn't even think about playing a reaction-based game via remote desktop technology, but it seemed like a fun test, especially as all the other stuff I do via JD is handled so beautifully.

No, it's not been improved any, from what it was.
Well, I hadn't played the JP version but I can say the Play controls work well enough but the lag is **** awful. Messing with settings right now but even no sound and low resolution don't seem to do the trick.
Would certainly not recommend this at $9.00. If you have an overclocked device give it a go but I can't find a way to make it run like anything but ass on stock.

Game runs fine here on stock GB, sim free, rooted uk R800i, no lag, no sound issues, looks, plays and sounds as good as the DC original.
Slide the pnone open and you can use the D-Pad, and screen buttons or mix it up and use touch for move, and physical buttons.
Dunno what your issues are, but it's fine here.
Maybe reboot your device, or clear some crap from your phone/check whats running when the game is played..
And run G-Gee offline, that's more bother than it's worth.
I bought the Japanese version, which sits at game version 1.0.0, same as the Western version, it's just the G-Gee programme that was updated, not the game with the recent update a couple of days ago/Western Release.
Not ideal but playable on my xplay, levels work great, but some slowdown during the first two bosses.
Perspective is very disorienting

Cook, but a couple of inconsistencies with your review(on your site).
The ships are white and black, not red and blue, same with bullets(although the black bullets do have a red.hue to them).
And please don't mention the Gamecube version, it was an abomination, IMO.
It may be a shooter, in the sense you shoot things, but it's more of a bullet ballet, and memory game, as knowing where and when to chain, is vital, for a decent score/decent game, with attack patterns and boss patterns having to be foremost to enjoy the game.
Also, as you know, the game is available around the world, so you don't need market enabler any more to buy it.
And if you play with the network disabled/internet off, G-Gee doesn't hinder gameplay, and you get a screen that you just press the "Play" button to get to the game.
EspGaluda II and DoDonPachi Resurrection are another two titles worthy of your money, to add to your shooter collection, BTW.
Cool, thanks for the feedback. I made the video review a while ago for another site but it was never used. I decided to branch out on my own and I needed a starter article while I work on other aspects of the site so I threw that up real quick. Of course that very day the Global version comes out, I figured it would be best to leave the references in there seeing as how it was the japanese version I originally reviewed. I probably should update it though.
Well hopefully someone gets a video of it running on the Play because even after a clean reboot it runs terrible on my device. How do you run G-Gee offline btw?

Brian, click on Legion's link to his site..he has it running on Android in the video in his review, it's not a Play it's on, but that's how mine runs, smooth, no lag, and plays just fine with the D-Pad slid out, and using the onscreen buttons for fire/change, and laser.
As to G-Gee, Just disable your wifi or your data connection.
Start Ikaruga, the G-Gee screen appears, and it should then go to a blank screen, with something like "Network Error", or "No Network", in the middle, with a logo top left, and as *mine is the Japanese version*, on the top right, I assume it says "Play Game",
Hit that, game starts, and to end it, long press on the back button and select Exit.
This, and DoDonPachi Resurrection, and EspGaluda II all run fine offline with wifi/network disabled.
In the video it runs quite a bit better than it does on my device but there is still a lot of choppiness. I'd love to see that same phone playing level 5 since each level (due to the increasing amount of enemies) runs slower and slower for me. Either way, if mine ran as well as the device in the video I'd probably be a lot less angry but I still wouldn't call it a great or even good port.

I't's the same as the original version, so I wonder how could it be any more towards "good"?
Ok sure. That is a Galaxy S3 right? It does not perform to my liking on an incredibly high end phone even though the hardware is more than capable had more work been put in to the port. JSR, Expendables, Crazy Taxi on the i-products have all translated well to newer devices (not using the Play as a benchmark here, keep in mind). It is a $9.00 application that is attached to a social networking program, something which I find very irritating. There are no game-play limitations like you would have in Ikaruga for the DC or GC since the game defaults to free-play with a level selector. Changing resolution settings and turning sound off does very little to help with performance which screams of bad port. When playing at the lowest settings the frame-rate becomes incredibly jerky since the game does not have a very good frame limiter. DDP and Espgaluda 2 both worked great on my device but this port clearly has not received as much love.
Works relatively well in my one x, it jinks a bit here and there, but it's mostly very playable.

It performs just fine on Xperia Play, so something must be wrong at your end, either bloatware on your phone, or your operator rom/custom rom is rubbish, something interfering with it like apps/software running, or your memory card is either fragmented, or just plain slow.
I use a 32gb class 10 card, stock uk r800i sim free, no bloatware, rooted, a couple of sound mods edited build.prop, and nothing else.
Once you get past the "social networking" programme, the game itself runs directly from the SD card, hence the 170+meg download, it doesn't run from the phone, the .apk that is a couple of megabytes is G-Gee's app, with a link to the game.
The ports fine, it's designed for touch phones/tablets, what more do you expect?
The chaining/gameplay is something that was intended to use buttons and a stick, not swipe controls and 3 areas of touch for fire/lock on/change, but with the phone open the D-pad works well, and the on screen buttons work fine for their purpose.
As to free play, how many people do you imagine want to sit for 10+ hours or whatever it was to unlock things, and up their credits, like the original.?
You don't have to continue, you don't have to pick other levels other than the first, but for those who do, who maybe never unlocked everything, or can't/don't play for hours, it's perfect.
As to your earlier slowdown point, you are aware the original version had deliberate slowdown, and this is present in this version also, which leads me to think this is closer to the original version more so than the 360 ports new coding.
The only thing this version is missing is Shinra walking towards Ikaruga, on the startup screen.
And as to DoDonPachi, and EspGaluda, they're not on par with what ikaruga is, as it's full 3d rendering, etc is hardly a patch on 2d spritesm even though there is a ****load going on..heck some emulated old titles fling around similar amounts of bullets, and sprites.
save backup
can anyone provide a titanium backup for ikaruga 13.01.01 i was playing this game yesterday but after opening the game again game screen just went black i dunno what happened . .tried reinstalling but still the same. thought maybe because my phone is rooted or something. i will try your titanium backup file and see if this solves my problem :/
Just to confirm: is the game Xperia Play optimized? Or do you have to use gamekeyboard?
