I have had my Huawei S7 Android tablet for a week now, and I'm really longing for some Rom hacks - especially to move apps to SD since it apparently only has room for 128MB of apps according to SystemPanel and I'm getting "low space" notifications all the time and thus can't install updates, Gtalk won't run (I think it's related), etc.
Rooting was really simple, just download and run UniversalAndroot.apk but the next steps I'm a bit uncertain about; finding and installing the right Recovery image, then if I succeed installing some apps2sd solution (Darktremor?) or just some Froyo rom.
Another issue is that the SD card is almost not used for anything, seems like all my apps uses internal memory instead of external, maybe that's a 2.1 thing. I transfered a bunch of .avi movies to my microsd card, but Rockplayer can't find them unless I move them to internal memory.

Hi. Just pre-ordered here in the States, hopefully this will ship by the 7th of Nov. One quick question is the screen in your device resistive or capacitive? As for your dilemma with storage I'm sure that soon a solution will be found by someone here.

Resistive.
From what I have seeing, the resistive screen is pretty responsive, so this is not a major problem. The small storage space is something that must be addressed if this device is going to last. The archos 7 had this problem in the beggining untill a custom ROM took care of this by doubling the storage size. I think that the HS7 will be fixed in this way first then a2sd might kick in later on.

Fixed.
The internal storage memory in the S7 is called "SDCARD" for some stupid reason (have they just bought a lot of cheap 8GB SD Cards and glued them to the motherboard, not bothering with formatting and giving them a different name like "STORAGE" or "DISK"?).
This apparently confuses several applications.
The name for the external Micro SD card, I found out by using Terminal Emulator, is "SDCARD2", so by specifying to RockPlayer that /this/ is where to look for files (SDCARD2 doesn't show up when browsing the directories, not in RockPlayer, not in Astro File Manager, not in stock Video player...) I am finally able to play .avi files from my MicroSD
Good going!
Wow
Ok so got mine yesterday at BestBuy and im very impressed with this tablet. Put my tmobile sim card in and works great for data and calls. GPS also works very well.
It would be great to root and put Froyo on this. Screen is very responsive and fit and finish is great. At $299 they have a home run.
the screen is good until you try to double tap its nice but mines is going back to bestbuy and i will be getting samsung tab
Got mine over the weekend along with a Cruz Reader and a Cruz Tablet from Best Buy for comparison. Hands down the Huawei is far superior. The capacitive screen alone is just not enough to overcome the rest of the shortcomings of the Cruz Tablet. The S& screen is the best resistive screen I have used, add in BT and 2.1 and I am happy so far. Now we just need a chef to start cooking....
Got mine yesterday!
I just picked mine up for Best Buy yesterday and I am still playing with it to make my final decision. But for the most part I am liking it. The screen responsiveness it pretty good not as good and my HTC EVO which is what I am use too but it is far better than what I was expecting. A hugh plus is that it has the Android market and front and rear cameras. The only down side it that there is still not much to choose from as far as apps to use the cameras. I got this device to eliminate carrying my Mac from place to place and still be able to post to decision boards and work on my papers when I'm away from home. So far this device has exceeded my expectations.
What is everyone else feeling about their S7?

So far I am impressed with this little tablet. You get a 7 in 3G capable tablet with all the Google Apps (Market, Maps, GMail) for 200 less then the Galaxy Tab.
Two big down faults. It is running 2.1 currently (promised to be upgraded Q1 2011) and it is resistive touch. No I will say its probably one of the better resistive touch screens I have used so its not to bad.
There also may be a storage issue. Even though there is 8GB installed, its not for APPS. You have only around 180MB available with the default apps installed. Hopefully this can be remapped with the next update (or XDA members do some magic)
Battery life might be around 6 hours, 3-4 with 3G on.. Not totally sure yet.
But I am more impressed with this guy then the $399 Veiwsonic GTablet. Out of the box is just a better experience and you get google apps with no hacking.
We will have full review later on at MyTabletLife.com

Huawei S7 Android Tablet
Hello All,
I purchased this Tablet a couple of days ago and a little disappointed. I am with T-Mobile and the reception i get on this is only EDGE. Can anyone on T-MO confirm if you are able to get 3G on this? Also, when using Launcherpro or ADW, I am unable to place widgets on the desktop. Anyone experiencing this?
3G
Just got my S7 Tablet, will verify to see if I get 3g reception.
Our review of the Huawei Ideos S7 has been posted. Visit MyTabletLife.com to check it out.
This tablet needs to get in more hands. Huawei has said it will get 2.2 early 2011 but the Snapdragon processor in this baby is begging for it NOW! lol

got me one
I got one 3 days ago and so far I am very impressed. And yes, it is crying out for froyo. So far I like everything in it. I am using it with Simple Mobile with no problem thou I have not tried the 3G since I use clear for my internet connection. The battery life is even better than my HD2. The only downside are.
1. The front facing Camera it is not fully integrated with the system. Fring does not recognize it so for video conference uses the rear one (pointless). I tried other apps and they don't see it either, they see only one camera. The main camera app does recognize thou. This could get fixed with froyo.
2. I takes quite a bit to get used to a resistive screen after using a capacitor one.
3. Market is restricted, but you can root the tablet and use Market Enabler.
4. No video out (for now) but it does have room for a ...docking station? or some proprietary add ons.
5. The speakers are good and loud, but connected to external speakers is the opposite.
All of these things don't bother me much except for the front facing camera problem.
I can't wait to find a case or something, it looks too nice to drop it or scratch it.
totally agree about the case! I spent 45 minutes at BBY yesterday trying every case they have for e-Readers, etc but nothing was a good fit. The closest I found was a Wenger Swiss Army pouch, but I really want something that will protect it all the time. I know myself well enough to know that a pouch just means I will drop it taking it out.
I am not sure what you mean about Market restrictions though, I haven't run into this on mine, are you sure it is not just an App Version/OS Version problem?
Today I tried SIM card from both T-Mobile and At&T.
At&t- VOICE worked, however could not get any data working on this device. I hope this isnt the case. I am going to try again. CAN ANYONE confirm they tried an AT&T SIM and data didnt work for you also???
T-Mobile- Voice & DATA worked, however it is EDGE ONLY. T-mobile 3G did not work.
This will be the shame if this is the case. The box says 3G, so people will return this for not working. I am hoping the AT&T data problems were a fluke.

AT&T?
I just picked this from Best Buy. Great little device for it's price. I haven't been able to get either voice or data to work on ATT. I see a few people with success with T-Mobile. To the ATT folks here has anyone got it to work, and if so did you have anything special to do?
Thanks in advance.

so how are you liking it? have you already put the market on? any noticable bugs or quirks worth mentioning? thanks
it took me 1 day to absolutely go from "hmm, not sure this is what i wanted" to "holy ****, this is the best tablet yet".
it's a thing of beauty if you are willing to dig in with the gapps kit and getting all the apps that i love on my Desire onto the tablet.
it's fantastic. any specific questions you'd like answered, let me know.
Can you please give more details about it?
What about the screen? Does it look OK with market apps, cause it has bigger screen resolution. Does it look nice or blurry? I 've seen Archow with win7 and it's terrible.
Speed? Updates? Any good resources for roms (other than XDA)?
Sorry for botherning but I 'm interested to get one. Santa Claus promished it to me (LOL).
I'd be interested in what you have to say about it - particularly battery life.
Looking @ getting the Archos 70 for the wife, and the 101 for myself.
Sorry archos I went ahead and got a g tablet. It's not perfect but with a little work its a good tablet and cm6.1 is already in beta for it.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
i made a video of my 101 hooked up to my TV, have a look:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYAyQQk2C78&hd=1
the device is great. speed is great, the design is great. for some examples, movies look fantastic, Angry Birds looks incredible. it does have a little lag once in a blue moon, but usually because i'm pushing it too hard.
we're still waiting on 2.2, but other than not having flash websites (who cares?), you wouldn't know it. when we get 2.2, this is gonna scream.
the battery life is the best i've experienced in a device lately. i can go at least 2 days with normal use. apparantly, it's been tested by some dude on Star Wars 2. it played 3 times over before the battery died.
i rarely plug it in.
was wondering how is the screen quality? view angles? both in landscape or protrait? have the folio 100 for a few more days, 760g feels a bit on the heavy side after some hours of use. build quality? color gamut and sharpness on the screen?
how does the 101 do in this matter?
i looked at the Folio just before i bought the 10". i found the screens on both to be identical. what moved me over to the Archos was the fact that the Folio out of the box was force crashing left and right. the salesguy and i both laughed and i walked away.
otherwise, the screen quality is very good. is it quite as good as the iPad? no. but, i have not had any headaches trying to read and watch on it.

never expected it to be like the ipad, but if u say that it is identical as the folio, then the quality is not what i would prefer but still good enough for me.
can you try the skyfire browser on it? How is the video streaming?
Quick review of my Archos 70
I've had my Archos 70 for about a week now. One of the lucky ones. I'm really happy with it but there are a few quirks that I hope will be sorted out once 2.2 is released for it. Here's a few of my thoughts on it.
1. I like the screen. I've read people complain about the viewing angle but it's fine for me. I wish the resolution was a higher but that really only comes into play when using the web browser and viewing high resolution images.
2. There is definite issue with the soft buttons that needs to be fixed. I don't run into it all that often but it does make using alternate launchers/book readers a little annoying. Basically the soft buttons are unknown to some apps. It's not actually limiting the screen area like status bar is. usually full screen apps are the issue. The kindle app for instance chops off the bottom line of text which makes reading books hard. The Nook app on the other hand has no issues because you can set your own margins.
3. Swype works really well in portrate mode. The best way to "type" on one of these things. If I need to write a forum post or anything more than a few lines I'll pick up the archos. I can't stand the keyboard on my IPad so to me this is a HUGE benefit. The only downside is in landscape mode the soft buttons overlap the side a bit which makes hitting the period and back buttons a little hard
4. My android phone has a track ball and I wish this had one. About the only feature I miss from the ipad is the hold over a word for zoom in on a text field that allows you to place the cursor where you want it the track ball fixes that on the phone but not so much without it. My finger is not precise enough for cursor placement. The stock keyboard does have arrow keys but Swype does not. (I did figure out that if you hold down the power button an option comes up to modify the soft buttons to include arrow keys but it's really large.)
5. The bottom left corner gets pretty hot but it's not unbearable. That's the only part of the device that I noticed that. Plus when in portrate mode the side with the camera is a little heavier.
6. This thing is great for reading. The nook app works really well for me
7. It feels great in your hand. Just the right size and weight.
8. No compass. I wasn't expecting it though. Ipad does have one (since I've kinda compared the 2 in this already)
9. Google maps works great and wifi triangulation works well.
10. The screen does not get as dirty as fast as the ipad. I'm constantly cleaning the ipad as the fingerprints can really get in the way of viewing. I don't find that to be a problem with this device. The bezel does attract fingerprints but a microfiber cloth cleans that right up.
11. This thing needs froyo and root I've gotten way to used to having root and being able to control what the device does. Maybe over thanksgiving I'll have some time to look into it. Right now you must manage tasks on it and clear up memory or the thing will lag a bit. Some of the autokillers I've not found work for me. I guess if you've never seen 2.2 with a tweaked android internal memory manager they would be ok for you but not for me Luckily the task app it comes with is pretty good.
12. Even though it won't charge thru USB the included charger comes with the most common plug styles and allows you to swap them out. Really nice.
13. Battery life is pretty amazing but I think they toggle off wifi when the screen is off no matter what. I want to keep wifi on so I get email on it. Could be fixed with the firmware upgrade.
14. Video playback is nice and smooth and the audio player is pretty good as well. I did try some mkv files at 720p (not sure of the full specs of the media but could find out) and did get some slow down in the video in high motion areas. You could tell as the audio/video sync would go out then come back. I was also using the mini-hdmi->hdmi cable to put it on my tv when that happened. I've not tested any other videos yet. I don't have a lot of digital video hanging around these days.
15. I'd recommend getting a case. Kindle 2 or nook cases seem to work. A screen protector is also a good idea. I've been really careful with mine and i've still managed to somehow scratch the screen. I can only see it at specific angles in certain light so it doesn't detract from actual use but still you hate to have a scratch on a pretty screen
I'm very happy with the device. Once we get froyo I'll be even more ecstatic. I've not seen the need to grab my ipad once since I got it so that's sayin something.

Just so you guys know, the A70 and A101 are available on the Archos.com store.
Only the 8GB version of each so far. They've been up for under an hour now, but I'm sure they've taken a ton of orders, so better get it quick if you want it.

mmhh..
didnt they say that it will be almost imppossible to root the droid x too??
it will get rooted..just like the ps3 got "jailbroken" lol (i hate when people use the that term) but may be it will take years..lol
I've had one for a week too, definitely wanted a 7 incher since I prefer to have extra portatility. Everything is working great and Froyo update will only make things better.
Altough rooting etc is a nice thing to mess around with the device, I dont feel like it is a necessity for enjoying the device.
At the end Android devices pretty much let you do everything you want out of the box and it's not like I thought that AOSP roms were the best things on earth either (back to sense rom on Desire).
Once Froyo is here with Flash support and Froyo ap2sd, the device will have all I want and I wont change my mind wether a root shows up or not (we know it will eventually).

The X was rooted almost immediately (or even before launch?), but they haven't broken the bootloader encryption yet, so basically all that gained them at first was the ability to manipulate the filesystem outside of /data. Custom ROMs/kernels have been a bit of a chore. I haven't watched the progress too closely, but last I remember they've been able to get everything but kernels working, and even that may have progressed.
I'm one of the few people here that have the speaker malfunction (sound randomly disappearing until a reboot). So I've had to ship my tab off to VS to get it fixed/replaced.
So I figured what better time to try out the Xoom & Honeycomb that I've been so impatiently looking forward to. I went to Staples, knowing that they have a no-hassle 14-day return policy and decided to take the Xoom for a one-week test drive.
Here's what I've determined: The Xoom is decent with the main upgrade simply being the screen, but that's not worth $600. Honeycomb is a good UI, but it is not worth $600; it has to have a lot of fine-tuning before it can compare to some of the hacked versions of 2.2 for our tabs.
I'm going to be returning the Xoom this weekend after having had it for a week. Was I disappointed? No -- it's pretty much exactly what I thought it was going to be (a nicer screen and different OS). It did get me excited for what Honeycomb has to offer, but for right now even the "Featured Tablet Apps" mainly consists of Froyo apps with a UI sufficient for a true tablet -- for example, "Angry Birds" is 2 (w/ Rio) out of the 50 featured Tablet apps; most others are games that we can play on our phones.
No SDCard support, yet, etiher. It only has a slot for full SD, so MicroSD wouldn't be supported (although you could obviously do so through an adapter).
The Xoom did get me excited for one thing -- Samsung's 8.9" Galaxy Tab. I realize now that Honeycomb isn't the upgrade I thought it was, so my next tablet was going to have to be a hardware-focused upgrade. Samsung's 8.9 will be the thinnest and lightest tablet on the market once it's released. And I normally hate manufacturer-created UI (i.e. Touchwiz), but from the videos I've seen, Samsung has really made some of the more tedious Honeycomb actions much easier (such as their modifications to the notification tray.
Honeycomb itself felt familiar for the most part. Nothing seemed "more intuitive" although it would probably take a few weeks for me to break some of my 2-year-old Android habits. The new "add to homescreen" interface is a nice upgrade; the browser is very good; video chat via gtalk is awesome (and long overdue); the notifications tray is less intrusive; quick access to settings is nice, too.
I have one major gripe -- removing the dedicated Menu button and dedicated Search button was a massive oversight on Google's part, in my opinion. Replacing both of them with one "Recent apps" button doesn't even make sense to me, but they're the ones making the money. Over and over I found myself wanting to open the menu (only to notice that it may have been moved to the top-right of the screen for HC apps), or trying to Search the browser, only to have to scroll back to the address line.
All in all, I have a newfound appreciation for our faithful Gtablet. Sure, the screen could use some work, and having working video chat apps would be nice, and less struggles to get a full market would be a pleasantry, but we have a great device. Our device is still as fast if not faster than anything else out there. Stereo speakers, HDMI docks, MicroSD, USB support, etc.
I can't wait to get my GTablet back!

Yeah, I am going to end up keeping both of mine.
The USA today app convinced me of that .... Use the g-tab anymore for testing at work and use the xoom for play. Really hoping that motorolla gets the lead out and fixes some of the issues on the xoom (such as the SD card slot not working).
I would definitely keep both, but I think this summer will be big for Honeycomb with a few new devices coming out.
I keep thinking -- If I never owned the GTab, I would have thought the Xoom was heaven-sent.
Thanks for the detailed review!
One question, I have the same issue with the speaker (sound disappearing/playing static) till reboot. Seems to me it's a hardware issue (happens with all of the ROMs that I've tried).
Any pointers on how you got VS to repair yours? Was it tricky getting them to agree to repair it? (I've had mine since it they first started shipping, probably should have gotten in fixed months ago!)
TIA!

Viewsonic's customer service was really great. I believe because the Gtabs were all produced less than one year ago, they simply accept all hardware warranty claims without hassle. I just called their service line, spoke with a guy for about 15 minutes, and soon after had an email with my RMA and instructions on how/where to send the tablet.
They knew right away the problem I was having (static-y speakers which often times stopped working) so they didn't question the issue much, if at all.
Personally I would have like the gTab to have a full size SD card slot... can't see the advantage of the micro SD... camera has full size and would have been nice to interface... long post - I would not consider this a "negative" of the XOOM...

micro SD slot not working because Honeycomb 3.0 doesn't support external cards yet. The price you pay to be on bleeding edge here.

I see what you're saying, but the fact is that microSD is more compatible than a full SD card as long as you have an adapter. You will always be able to transfer to most android phones (which are all micro), and usb adapters for micro are easy to come by. It's personal preference I guess, I just see micro as acceptable in more locations.
"camera has full size and would have been nice to interface" -- not sure what you mean by that?

Asus, Acer, and the xoom development community all managed to get it working Sooooo.. I am pointing to motorolla to get their crap together on this one
I am a newbie to this board. I purchased a micro sd card at Amazon. It worked for one day on my transformer. I took it out and then inserted it the following day. It got swallowed up and I couldn't remove it. My transformer also didn't recognize that the SD card was there. It took many hours to remove it. I ended up using a fine pair of twizzers. I read that amazon is carrying a lot of fake SD cards from China...read the reviews on Amazon if you are interested. I wonder if that was the problem...however I used a adapter and the card worked fine on my computer but not on my droid phone nor camera where it alerted me the card was damaged.
Has this happened before? Is this a glitch with the transformer...the card getting stuck? Since it was day 13 of purchasing it at Best Buy, I returned it. Now I want another one and can't decide to wait and purchase the prime or buy the same one cheaper.
I also had another problem with my tablet. I like watching House on Fox TV. It was barely possible. I would get alerts saying my mobile is not compatible. I got a lot of streaming issues where it would stop every few seconds and load up.
Does anyone know if the prime would solve this issue? It only has 1gb of ram. Watching Netflix was fine...not Fox TV.
thanks in advance
i can't help you with the memory card but it's usually a good idea to stick with the name brand cards.
i say good job on returning the transformer while you still could. i think the prime is a pretty big leap over the original and at an extra $100 it's a bargain imo.
as for the netflix versus foxtv viewing. netflix was probably fine because you were using the netflix app. foxtv is laggy because it is probably running through flash which the transformer couldn't handle properly for some reason. flash on android in general is a mixed bag and i don't know if the extra power of the prime will fix it. my guess is it will be better but can't say by how much. i think when prime eventually gets the ice cream sandwich update is when we'll truly see what it's capable of which hopefully is a whole lot.
From the sounds of it more like you insert it wrong or something as opposed to a fake sd card. Fame or not it should go on and out the same imo
I don't know what happened. It wasn't inserted wrong. I pushed it in and it went in too far and I didn't have the grip of my nails to pull the SD out.
I just saw an ad for the original transformer with 32gb for $389. I'm still can't decide to wait and pay the extra $125+++ and get the prime just for speed but 16GB or spend $389 and get a larger 32 GB drive. I am not using it for games but just for movies. I also hope to use the movie maker app to edit my long videos and burn to DVDs.
anyone think it is worth it to wait for the prime which is somewhat lighter in weight in but faster than the origjinal--- or buy the original with double the GB for a lot cheaper price now and use it for 6 months and wait for what ASUS offers after the first of the year when they get even a faster tablet and buy it then after all the kinks are worked out with the operating system?
The prime is built to aim more towards gamers than anyone else. The quad/quint core is only used to its full potential when dealing with graphically intense apps... like games.
For most other purposes, the transformer 1 is more than capable of handling.
Regarding the card issue, this is the first I've heard of it. But I'll tell you this. I don't know if you inserted it wrong or not, since I wasn't there. But through all my years of tech help of other people, the #1 issue that most people run into when they say they have a bad card or their device card slot is bad is actually them inserting the card wrong. I'll leave it at that.
Please feel free to ask plenty of questions. Myself and other experienced android users will be more than happy to help you. I may appear cranky at times, but that's just my other personalities. Take my advice. Multiple personality disorder, when left untreated, can result in poor health and social relationships with others.
thanks for your advice. So you are saying this quad processor won't make streaming or viewing movies any faster ---or video editing [large files of copy, cut and paste] quicker? I am a graphic artist and hope one day that I can find a photoshop -equal app where I can take big files and tweek them while keeping my processor quick enough during this action.
otherwise I will buy the original 32gb tablet for $389 and replace it in a year or two when tablets are more advance and prices hopefully are better.
Someone on here got a used Transformer from Amazon and was pretty stoked about it; it still had most of the plastic on it and didn't look as if it'd been used much, if at all. You could swoop up a 32GB unit for $297 (it's also eligible for a SquareTrade warranty, if you're into that [some cats swear by it]) and chill with that till Prime shows up and is worked out. Just a thought!

That would be a yes and no. In theory if it brings enough of the processor cores online for the job, yes by brute force. Also yes in the sense that something there is probably a way for a movie player to take advantage of it, but no in the sense that you probably won't find such a soon enough to care, and no in the sense that at the hardware level it might not always. Logic there: AFAIK they use a baby core for simple tasks and start reving up to the quadtacular power house as needed, so e.g. if you just e-mail you get mega battery life. Try playing Need For Speed non stop and it'll drain faster but run smooth.
Can't say if it's any good but there is an Adobe Photoshop Express app; for simple tasks it might suffice but it may vastly fall short of what you may need. My expertise in your field is minimal so take it with a grain of salt.

You mention that you could not grip the card with your nails to pull it out. To remove the card, you push in on it to release it and it should pop far enough out to grab with your fingers. It is not like the sim card on some phones that you pull out. It is a push to insert ( till it clicks) then push again ( till it clicks) to remove.

I didn't say that. I said to the average user or users who don't game or don't care much for those really high pixel movies won't notice a difference. If you're a graphic artist, then yes the prime will be perfect for you. Again, it all comes down to what you want to use it for.

If you want to use photoshop and all the graphically intense stuff, then yes I'd recommend waiting for the prime.
thanks for all your advise. I will wait and get the prime...however I am quite disappointed that the new docking has only 1 USB and not 2....
regarding inserting the SD card that got stuck. Yes, it is possible I didn't push it in hard enough to have it pop out but it was stuck so far in it the port that I was afraid to try to push more to ejact the SD. Regardless when it was stuck in my old transformer didn't recognize it
ok so this video about tegra 3 says that flash performance will be greater than before

I took the risk and bought an HP Slatebook x2 today. I heard mixed optimism regarding its superiority over the other HP "offerings" as we might call them ... but it was hard for me to resist the Tegra 4 and bundled keyboard dock. As a grad student, I need a versatile input system, and I wasn't sure I wanted to wait for the next ASUS Transformer tablet to come out. Plus, I keep hearing bad things here about ASUS customer service and so on.
The Slatebook apparently ships with 4.2.2, which isn't too shabby, and it does have multiple SD expansion slots and a USB 2.0 port. So, not exactly up to snuff with the new Transformer rumors, but I couldn't really wait to go mobile because I do web design and I'm stuck on a desktop computer (hard to show off my work from my bedroom, y'know).
What I'm wondering now is, who's going to achieve root for me?
Also, what's the general consensus here on this particular device? All I've seen on these forums about it is a bunch of spam threads from a troll.
Thoughts?

I, or rather my wife, got this tablet a week ago and I am quite impressed. It is fast and nice, and I agree with the advertisement "100% notebook, 100% tablet". When docked, it feels like a true notebook with a very well designed keyboard and nice shortcut keys. And when used as a tablet, it works well too.
The multi user profiles on Android 4.2 works extremely well too.
For the root access: yes please! I want root too

My roommate bought one of these last week. I was a little dubious at first, but I agree with your assessment. "100% notebook/100% tablet" is pretty accurate.
I have a HP touchpad from the $99 sale from year(s?) ago. I could never get used to just the tablet feel, so I *really* like the docked feel of the slatebook.
Just my 2c. I think it's a feel thing. My girlfriend prefers tablets and just tablets.
I don't think my roommate cares about root... but I could probably convince him. Can never have too many testers
HP needs to bring the 32/64GB internal storage ones to the U.S.
Also with no physical store presence this tablet combo will go nowhere.
Does anyone want to give a little review on their thoughts on the unit?
Its been out in a few countries for a few weeks now and still not in depth review anywhere!
Cheers

I had a TF201 and needed to replace it. I too could not wait for the new ASUS to come out, so I took the risk and bought a Slatebook x2. The complete lack of any discussion on this device, including reviews, is unbelievable. Do a Google search...if you exclude the repeat of the HP spec page...there is nothing.
I'm not a reviewer, but I like this device so far. Its very snappy, no lag, and its running a very close to stock Android 4.2.2 ROM. The only complaints I have are minor; no ability to direct connect to computer (runs off an AC adapter and a proprietary cable), and there is a little 'wobble' back and forth when docked (not tight like the Transformer). But everything else is nice, the screen, responsiveness, dock keys and looks. Its plastic, but who cares; so are about 100 million Samsung phones (I have a Note 2). I ran an AnTuTu benchmark, it was 29054 for what its worth; benchmarks don't mean too much to me.
I really hope Devs pick this up, find a root method and work on a CM load. I am concerned that the HP support to updates (4.3, KeyLimePie, etc) may be slow or non-existent. This wouldn't be a disaster, as the current load is fine, but I hate getting left behind.

I'm in Australia; they only had the 16GB model in the store I went to. This works about to be just under 12GB usable. However, I did put a 32GB micro SD card into the tablet and a 32GB SD card into the dock, so now I have on 70GB, which is more than enough for me.
I Just ordered last week still waiting for device. The one strange thing is there is no review or any discussion about the device. Hopefully we get our own forum
Google Edition S4 CM Mod
I bought one yesterday online for what is certainly going to be less than what the new Asus pad infinity will go for and it should arrive in 2 days. While I'm skeptical of HP products this one has such nice specs I couldn't resist. I'm very surprised there isn't an xda forum created for this convertible yet.
bought this a week ago its a pretty kick ass notebook tablet combo just cant wait to root this beast was wondering if a male male usb cable would let me access it on the pc
Just found a full review from google

I get the extra storage on the SD cards but the 11-12 GB left over for apps is not enough. The fact that they are actually making 32/64GB versions yet not offering them in the US makes absolutely no sense. Apps and games are only going to get bigger and bigger...I have a hp touchpad 16GB with ICS and have to really pick and choose what I install because of the small space..I'm looking for am upgrade in the internal storage department as well.

I tried this yesterday with no success. You can flash files from the SD card via the boot menu, so maybe that's an option for a dev who knows what he's doing.
Could anyone confirm this tablet work with only 32G micro SD. Planning to order a 64G sd

Interesting. I've usually managed well enough with low internal storage (my Razr Maxx only had 8GB dedicated to apps, and I never overloaded it). I like the fact that this tablet takes multiple SD cards for expansion--means odds are I'll never run out of space even with my 20+ GB music collection.
I'm glad to hear there are others who like what they've seen and are hoping for devs to pick it up. It means I made a good purchase. Looking forward to getting mine in the mail Friday!

Sorry, I read that 32GB was max, so I just went with 32GB. Haven't tried 64GB.

My TF201 only had 16GB and it was fine for apps; I never ran out of room to install stuff. My issue was storage of my video library, which is fine on the 2 extension cards. I haven't read anywhere where >16GB units are available; maybe they are still coming.
Just tried a display set at the HP fair. It looks and feels sturdy except for the part that connects the tablet to the keyboard. Feel like its not connected properly and wobbles alot. I like the keyboard combo. For the price, its definitely cheap.
I am going to wait for more reviews before buying. Ppl kept saying tegra 4 sucks but isnt this the first tegra 4 tablet??
Android is fine as a phone OS but not as a laptop replacement.
Actually when you consider what most people use a laptop for android makes a very good laptop. With a level of power consumption that is wonderful. Of course haswell may end that particular argument. Or at least give it a black eye. At any rate for consumption and light computation devices I like android. Given its current power growth rate and popularity it could actually overtake and dominate the laptop industry unless Microsoft and Intel step up their game quickly. I tend to think Intel and Microsoft will drop the hammer next year though. Laptop sales are Declining at an alarming rate and windows RT hurt Microsoft's pocketbook a bit so they will innovate or die. I figure with their money and Affluence they will throw a mean right hook at the market sooner or later

Someone on another thread can use his 64B SD on a HP SlateBook X2 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44619797&postcount=15
Hi all, what about gaming on this tab?
Hello, i am thinking to buy this tablet and i just wanna know that how is the gaming on this tab. I mean high end graphical games like NOVA or gangstar vegas. Actually i am having a nexus 7 1st gen and I intrested to buy an TEGRA 4 tablet. so pls tell
Hello,
So I was an energetically awaiting the Nexus 9 only to be disappointed with the lack of storage and MicroSD. I realize the Shield has basically the same storage internally but adds the ability to add the MicroSD which is very important to me.
When I was last in this forum soon after release it sounded like there were several issues with WiFi and screen cracking. Is that still the case or were these quickly overcome? After browsing through here a bit I don't see folks recently complaining of issues so I thought I'd ask before I buy.
Thanks!

The WiFi antennas are not the greatest and placed poorly. You have to watch how you hold the tablet; cases help.
The cracking happens along the actual body of the tablet not the screen. They start small and get bigger over time. It is unknown if you will have this issue. Nvidia stated they fixed it with a new process when they rolled out the LTE version. Some LTE users have reported cracking though. Nvidia is good about RMA's though, and you will get another if it happens.
The OS is not optimized and has several annoying issues. This will likely get better as they keep rolling out patches and make the jump to Lollipop. It is missing some advertised features such as charging while using OTG for ethernet. This is important as it is the ONLY way Nvidia allows you to stream 1080p/60fps on the tablet with their software and Grid.
Spend a little time on the official forums and youll see the issues. To be honest, I'd wait and see what happens before pulling the trigger. I am on my 2nd tablet; 32gb LTE and it sits on my shelf most the time as it is so unstable and has the battery bug. I'll get back to it when some of these issues are sorted out. Until then I'm having fun porting android on my Jetson TK1. Sad thing is, it's already more stable.
I honestly have not had the issues everyone else seems to be having, I use my tablet daily for many things not just gaming. The battery life is not the best but it is not horrible, the screen is fantastic and there is no lag to speak of. The games are amazing, they are smooth and pretty much every game I have loaded up even non tegra enhanced games seem to run and look better on this tablet than on any of my other devices, which I have owned a lot!
So I would said the whole dual core 64 bit thing is negligible in the current market and the benefits of the SD slot more than make up for it. I myself have a 64gb fast microsd card in my tablet and use Folder Mount for the obb folder, I have roughly 40+ gbs of games installed on my tablet and have no issues...
Thanks for the feedback. Not much of a serious gamer and generally wouldn't use the tablet for that. My primary uses/needs:
Storage - either on board or MicroSD
Travel a lot and use to watch movies and such on planes so being able to do that without lag is important.
Battery life should be reasonable
Easily rootable as I like to tinker.
Browsing, sports apps, some games, etc.
Thanks!

Well the storage is there since it can support 128b microSD cards
I cannot imagine it would lag playing any videos though I honestly don't use it for that myself
Battery life is decent, not great, not bad.
Super easy to root, compatible with TowelRoot One click APK.
I have not found any apps incompatible with it so far so you should not have any issues with your apps.
