Ive read through some of the posts on here already but here is my dilemma. I do not own a tablet of any kind. Lately i have been wanting to get one for 2 reasons. Having somethhing to work on thats not a huge laptop. Note taking, apps, some games, and movies. The 2nd reason is for traveling, i want a tablet for my kids to watch movies on when we drive.
Now i starting looking into the Nexus 10, and love it, but with no expandable memory, i feel very limited getting it. Even at 32GB, - OS and formatting, i think you are only looking at around 27/27 GB of space. Considering an average movie is about 1.2 - 1.6 GB per, i wouldnt be able to put a whole lot on the nexus 10 before being maxed out.
Hence comes in the TF700, i love the fax that it has 32 GB + expandable memory, i feel very comfortable in that regard, but have read plenty of people with issues with the TF700. I also love the fact that i can get a keyboard with it as well.
My next thought it price.
A 32GB nexus 10 is 499, + tax and shipping through google im looking at around $550 out the door.
TF700, looks like i can get it through Amazon for around $470 with no tax where i live, and free shipping. So there is the cost factor that plays into my decision.
I would prefer to keep my devices fairly stock. I do own a LTE galaxy nexus and love it. I did unlock the bootloader, but i run it stock. I would prefer a OS that looks a lot like my phone but this isnt a requirement.
Any thoughts/advice/help would be appreciated.

If you're on the fence, I would maybe wait until a couple reviews come out. The Nexus 10 would be great with kids because of Android 4.2's new muli-user functionality. With regards to the storage.. I think the 32GB should be enough for what you need. Even without a microSD. I would buy the nexus 10, but if you're really on the fence just wait until a few days after it's released to watch some good reviews. :good:
The battery life added by the dock really helps out though with kids watching movies. I'm in the same boat, although my son has motion sickness, so no reading/watching/playing for him in the car, and his sister doesn't care about doing stuff in the car (yet). They're 4 and 2, respectively.
I also find that the tablet/dock combo makes it easier to just stand the device on a tabletop or something and let them watch. Gives them something to hang onto, as well, and when snapped shut, it's also a bit more safe than a 'naked' tablet.
32 GB is probably a lot of storage, but with all my clips of the Swedish Chef, the Muppets, Sesame Street, Family Guy (for me, not for the kids), Leprechaun Plop, Bobo the Rabbit and so and so forth, I'm looking into 12 GB! That's not even adding the Smurfs in wide-screen cinema deliciousness, and all the Ice Ages and whatnot.
No, I'm perfectly happy with the 700 and all its storage options. Also, don't forget the possibility for quickie file transfers by USB stick! I managed to get the Smurfs on a USB stick while on vacation -- shame the HD TV would play from USB stick... </geek hero>
I have a 12.5 inch laptop so I never bothered to get the keyboard for the tf700. The tf700 lags horribly and is very frustrating sometimes for simple web browsing. I was just getting to point of throwing my warranty away and installing cleanROm but I'm going to just get a Nexus 10. I hate that it doesn't have microSD but I don't think I'll miss it much because the microSD performance in the TF700 is so horribly slow I barely used it.

You didn't use CleanROM, though, so you're missing out on the performance this device can and will offer had you tried it. Out of the box comparisons taken as the norm -- which arevalid on XDA only for noobs or the faint-hearted -- maybe the Nexus would provide slightly better performance. I say 'maybe' because the file I/O is as bad on the Nexus devices (tested with N7 -- reference somewhere in the forums) as it is on the entire Transformer range. I would be very hesitant to jump on the Nexus 10 bandwagon -- chances are you'll find out you've not gained anything in terms of performance, and actually lost in terms of options, including but not limited to the storage options the 700 provides.
Oh, and ermmm.... I don't know where you get the slow MicroSD performance from, because the I/O issue concerns (mainly) the INTERNAL storage -- my memory cards are as fast as they are/were in other devices I put them in. No issues whatsoever.

Here's a novel idea. Research the specs on both. Look at issues raised in appropriate forums. Then pick the one that works for you.
Personally, I'm hoping you get the Nexus 10. I'd rather have people who can't make up their own mind, or do their own research, posting on another forum.
This really is a decision that can only be made by you... Besides that, it's really hard to say exactly how the Nexus 10 performs since nobody even has it yet! I mean actual users. It amazes me the number of people that are saying that the Nexus 10 is a "beast" and that it will easily outperform the TF700, etc - that is all speculation at this point. On paper, the TF700 looked like the perfect device too, but as we all know, it has issues that didn't show up in spec sheets (slow I/O, QC issues, etc).
However, if the keyboard dock and expandable storage are important to you, I'd go with the Infinity. We don't even know if the N10 will offer a keyboard dock - and if it does, we have no idea what kind of features it will have (extra battery, trackpad, USB ports, etc).
If you do go with the Infinity, I'd highly recommend the following:
- Buy it at a local Best Buy - this way, if you have any defects with the device, you can quickly and easily exchange it, without having to worry about shipping, etc...
- Get a SquareTrade warranty for it (with accidental damage coverage). For an extra $90 or so, you get 2 years of worry-free usage. It's also important for the next recommendation.
- Unlock the bootloader and install CleanROM as soon as you know that you have a defect-free TF700. With CleanROM, the device performs so much better than stock. Really, it's a must-have!
If you do the above, I think that you will be extremely happy with the TF700 and it's performance. Plus, you'll have the awesome keyboard dock and the expandability that you need.

Im leaning to the nexus 10 32gb model, but well see if any specials or promotions pop up between now and then that might swing me the other direction.
Sounds like your issue is really about storage space.
I'm not up on all the Nexus 10 stuff. I'm sure it'll be a good device like the 7. Thus, I'm assuming no performance issues.
As for storage, the question is really is about how to do you plan on using your tablet. If you have a smartphone, that may help you. What kind of stuff do you store on it and how much of it. How many videos do you need to store on it versus want. So you want keep ten movies, that's about 16GB, which by your numbers, leaves 10GB for everything else. That's quite a bit storage for music and apps, unless you going to have a lot.
I think the issue is more of concern if you're going to be flashaholic or something like Boot Manager comes out for it so you can have and run mutliple roms.
If you don't want headache and working smooth and fast right out the box, get the Nexus 10. If you get the tf700 you going to have a lot of work ahead of you just to make it worth your money, even though the tf700 comes with more bells and whistles....

How do you know this? Have you used a Nexus 10? People sure are assuming a lot about the Nexus 10! How do we know that it doesn't have the same sort of I/O issues as the TF700? How do we know that it runs smooth out of the box once you start taxing it a little?
It might be true, but I'd wait until some XDA members get their hands on it before being so quick to assume that the Nexus 10 is going to be so perfect out-of-the-box...

This ^^ -- the Nexus 7 doesn't even fare that much better than the TF700, and it has a far smaller screen to power. I'm very glad with my purchase, and the Nexus 10 is not even on the radar.
im not sure why anyone hasnt mention On The Go. OTG is the ability to plug a USB memory stick into your tablet. there are actually two ways to do this. Tbe first is with an app you can buy for only a couple bucks, sorry i dont remember its name. The second is by unlocking and rooting your tablet.
i bought a nexus 7 when it first came out and knew id be traveking a lot later this year. so i roited and unlocked it. right niw i have 4 thirty-two gig sticks and 2 sixty-four gig sticks that i use with it on a regular basis.
ohh and sorry you do need an app called stickmount but its free.

I bought the huge adapter thing.
I hardly ever use it...actually I plugged it in once to check for function.
Works...it's kind of a waste of money for me anyway.
One of my least necessary purchases.
Android 4.2 was released to VOSP (or whatever it's called today.) Not being an Android user yet, I have no idea how long before a ROM will be available for the TF700 that includes the user profiles function. I too would LOVE that, having 2 kids.
I think Engadget's review was a great assessment of the two devices:
"In fact, other than a relative lack of resolution (1,920 x 1,200 vs. this guy's 2,560 x 1,600) the Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 is, we think, an overall better package. It's thinner, lighter, faster, has a much better camera, offers better battery life (particularly if you opt for the keyboard dock) and, frankly, we'd take the brightness and contrast of that 600 nit, Super IPS+ panel over this one with its extra pixels."
People are really obsessed with screen resolution now though, like they are with camera megapixels. Even though most content (web pages, etc.) the higher resolution poses no advantage whatsoever.

I'm also in the same boat, trying to decide between the two. I have a thread over in the Nexus 10 forum and unsurprisingly, the nexus 10 is winning the argument there with most people complaining about the lag and memory problems on the Infinity.
I'm stlil undecided though as I really liked playing around the with my brothers TF201, so the Infinity should be a step up i'd imagine.
Tough choice!!!!!!! Arrggghhhh.

I've had an Android phone for 3 years now and am finally buying my first tablet. I've been going back and forth for weeks on whether to get an ASUS Transformer Infinity TF700 or a Google Nexus 10. I've put together the a big list of pros and cons of each and just can't decide. I'd love to get objective, substantive thoughts.

There are a few important bullets you have..
Do you want the keyboard dock? If so, then get the Transformer. If you don't have a very portable laptop then I highly recommend it.
How do you use memory? Will you NEED the microSD slot? Do you use a lot? Do you want to transfer stuff easily? Then that is important.
Quad vs Dual core. This is less of a question more of a future-proofing issue. A quad-core tablet will go much farther when apps and other things become more capable and more demanding. (unless you are planning on getting the latest tablets frequently, then this is a moot point).

Eventually I think I would want the keyboard dock, but honestly, not having a tablet its a little hard to predict exactly how I'll use it. I do have an ASUS K55A laptop, which I consider to be decently portable, but I'm getting a tablet because it will obviously be a lot easier to tote around.
The only indicator of how I will use memory I have is my phone, which is a Samsung Galaxy II Epic Touch 16GB with an additional 8GB SDCard installed. I currently have all my music on it, but not much else. I have 8.6GB left in the main memory and 1.6GB left on the SDCard. I also have a SugarSync account that has 5GB on it, which I access as needed using the SugarSync App. I expect to start having it sync to my tablet so I have at least the main things I need available on the tablet offline. All that said, I'm probably not yet at the point where I NEED more than 32GB, but considering room for growth I may not be too far from it.
I am usually pretty good about making my toys last quite a while. I'm typing this on a desktop computer I bought over 8 years ago. When I buy stuff I like to invest in making sure it has the best chance of lasting as long as possible. In your opinion that might tip you toward the quad core, but slightly slower processor in the TF700?

I've been having this same dilemma.
I had a thread over in the Google Nexus 10 forum, so it's probably a little bias, but there are some good arguments if you haven't seen it already.

I still haven't made my decision to be honest. I'm still leaning towards the Infinity because of the dock and external storage capabilities whilst travelling, but the issues that have been brought to the table regarding the I/O and memory etc are making the choice difficult. It seems a lot of people complain about the device, yet nothing has been mentioned on any review websites which all praise the device. Strange.
I'm thinking of holding out until January in the hope something else new is announced at CES? Probably clutching at straws though. Also, I'm in the UK and the Infinity seems to have been discontinued here and I'm still not sure why! I can't find anything about it on Google or forums and Asus haven't got back to an email I sent a week ago. So I'm a little confused. I was hoping they might be releasing a replacement or something though, but I doubt it.
If I get it, it will have to be from Ebay and from the USA, so this again represents another risk in case the device has problems (hardware or software, of which both have been reported).
Hope I'm not repeating anything too much!

I wouldn't consider the 1GB RAM on the TF700 a huge con, as well as the back camera a pro. Same goes with the back camera on the N10, not a major con. The SD card however, is important, at least to me. I like to have all my music stored locally on my device as well as all my photos for back up.
Otherwise, if you're going to use the keyboard dock on the ASUS, get a new Chromebook or something.

The Padfone 2 is also quite cool, shame they didn't match the infinity for the screen though.
I'm debating between these two tablets as well.
I originally picked up the nexus 7, but unfortunately it wasn't nearly large enough for my needs.
My primary uses for the tablet will be to draw out design concepts. I think making my decision will be much easier once the nexus 10 is sold in stores. I'm currently leaning more towards the asus transformer infinity due to it's sleek design.
It really comes down to what you really need. I would go for a infinity for myself if I were to buy a tablet because of the micro sd card expansion and since it being a tablet, i would be storing some favorite movies, my entire song library (8GB) and thats about it. I think taking pictures with a tablet seems dumb but if I had a tablet, I would probably end up taking pictures and the infinity has a pretty good sensor, and it has a sleecker design. What would kill is the mono speaker. and i would not use it with the dock....actually, bot would be fit for me. lol dang. good thing i wont be buying a tablet until next year God willing.

Just received my Nexus 10. I have it and the TF700 in front of me right now and the N10 is beautiful and smooth. The N10 looks much better than I expected and the back is really nice and grippy. Wasn't too sure about keeping it but it looks like the winner so far. I'll miss having my microSD card, however I wasn't using it much because of the horrendous I/O speed. Still going to do more comparisons. If anyone wants some real world info or something to compare between the two let me know.
Just saying, quad core isnt always better than dual core. Infinity is Cortex A9 while the Nexus 10 is Cortex A15 based. This means that the Nexus 10 should be faster than the Infinity, even though Infinity is a quad core. Also, 5 mp cam to 8 mp really makes no difference, mainly because 1. Who takes photos with their tablet?... -.- Its huge. LOL and 2. Nexus 10's photos are AMAZING. (I have one)

okay so perfomancewise the nexus 10 is better. but i aint got a notebook atm and i will have to write a lot when i am not at home. what would you recommend? price doesnt matter to me. it has to be android and i saved 700 euros so it shall be enough. or do you know other devices which will fit my needs? btw what are the diffrences between infinity tf700t and tf300t? What about the galaxa note 10.1?

How did the two work out for you? Did the N10 rule overall? I'm considering the same pair and would appreciate any further info from a user who's had access to both.
I was in the same boat and eventually went for the infinity because:
1. 1920x1200 is good enough for me
2. I need the extra space (OTG is not that convenient for a lazy person like me)
3. premium feel
4. cost less (bhphotovideo had a discount 2 weeks ago)
5. available immediately! (N10 has been unavailable in my country a few days after launch)

How long have you had it now and how would you rate it after using it?
An incidental note: After looking at your list of devices, I'm astonished you went with a non-i device. Of course you do have that one HTC (or HTC One, was it? <g>). So I reckon you had already strayed from the *i* fold.

overall the N10 beats the infinity. even though the back isn't metallic it feels way better than the infinity. it runs better than the infinity on cleanrom.

Infinity on stock ROM is POS!!!
To be honest, I feel an iPad offers much better performance hardware-wise and overall usage (no your device is not compatible and more apps with tablet ui).
But decided to go with android to get something different even if I feel I'm getting an inferior product and inferior tablet ecosystem. Can't play most games I had on the iPad since its unavailable or incompatible but that's fine.
I've had the infinity since last summer, my friend recently bought a Nexus 10 and I've had time to compare the two. The Nexus 10 beats the Infinity hands down, out of the box. The biggest reason for this is the infinity's i/o issues that will cause frequent force closes when browsing the web and completely slam the system when updating apps. The nexus 10 runs smoothly and is very fast, didn't have occasional pauses like the infinity.
That said, I have my infinity unlocked, running cleanrom, and am running data to SD which eliminates the i/o issue. With these modifications, my tablet is every bit as fast (faster in some areas) and reliable as the N10. The Data to SD is key though, makes the infinity feel like a totally different tablet. I'm sure the N10 will have a great dev community and perhaps will end up faster in the end, but with Data to SD these 2 tablets are neck and neck. So if you plan on rooting and romming your tablet, I believe it is a toss up based on preference of features. If you plan to remain stock, definitely go for the N10

It has served me well for the time being, but now, with all the upgrades to Android, it is getting bogged down. I find myself waiting for its processor to finish working so my unresponsive screen begins to respond again.
Anyway, not going to rant. I intend to go for the new nexus 7. I have realized that my tablet cannot serve as a replacement for my laptop. Yes, I know that it is not intended to be a replacement, but now I truly understand the limitations of an Android device, keyboard or not. I still prefer to use my tablet for movies, reading my ebooks for school (laptop is too heavy), and entertainment.
Forgot to mention that my lag problems have multiplied tenfold after wiping misc to recover from brick a few months back.
Any thoughts?

The best part about Nexus devices is that you're pretty much guaranteed the latest and greatest android updates straight from the Google mothership. Thats one of the positives of moving to a nexus device. Furthermore, I believe there's great developer support in XDA for nexus devices since they are quite popular, so it will be easy to get great roms, help etc..
Personally, I would stick with my TF300T since it has a larger screen, keyboard dock and a great battery life (for me). I think that android as an OS, especially since its a mobile one, isn't that good for productivity. Yes, there are some great apps out there, but they will never beat the powerful capabilities of a proper Windows/Mac (Choose your side) computer running the Microsoft Office Suit.
I use my table for leisure, not for doing calculus through the wolfram alpha app, or writing a 1000 word essay; that's what my laptop is for. At least with a Nexus device, it could be used for these things if the android operating system improved dramatically from an update from Google, but thats probably not going to happen in the near future.
It all really depends on what you think you will gain and/or loose if you change devices. My best argument for the Nexus 7 is that it will get the latest version of Android pretty much as soon as it is released, as well as the large developer support from XDA since is quite popular. While the TF300T's biggest advantage is the keyboard dock, it makes typing a lot easier to type, and hence, better for productivity.
In the end, it depends on what you use the tablet for and what you want out of it that decides what tablet you should be using.

Personally, I would stick with my TF300T since it has a larger screen, keyboard dock and a great battery life (for me). Well, technically....I did ask a question.
On another note...thank you for your reply. My biggest attraction to the new N7 is the processor and the price. *I* personally don't need a 10" screen. I do like the bigger screen, but it certainly cuts down my mobility a little. Even swiping with Swiftkey is a bit more cumbersome in portrait mode. I used my tab as a standalone for about 8 months before I purchased a keyboard attachment, so I have experienced the both of both worlds quite extensively. Now, I only remove my tab for games (which I do a lot less) and for reading longer documents & PDFs.
I feel that the Tegra 3 is the TF300T's biggest flaw. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's why I don't want to save money to get the OG N7.
But what do you know (from experience or friends experience) about different smaller tablets? I've done my research, but opinions on XDA are much more current.

I think the biggest flaw that the Nexus 7 (N7) has, which the TF300T pwns with, is storage, followed by the camera. And you could match the cpu clock speed...
1. The N7 not having expandable is a major downfall - just like iDevices. 32 GB isn't enough for me. Combine that with my parents who have accounts on it and it quickly adds up. Right now I'm jamming 1x 32 GB micro-sd card and 1x 32 GB sd-card, so a total of 64 GB on top of the 32 GB built in (96 GB in total). If I had the money to spend on expensive SD cards, I would be possiable to have a 256 GB SD card and 64 GB micro-SD card in there, adding up to 320GB on top of the built in storage. If *I* had the N7, it would not suit me I need a large amount of storage, but you're needs (and wants) may be different.
2. I'm pretty sure you can overclock the Tegra 3 to 1.5GHz, so it will match the N7's clock speed. Use at your own risk.
Will add my experience with tablets once I've thought about it for a while. One question, how is the Tegra 3 the TF300T major flaw?

I absolutely cannot afford to have Google Play to update apps automatically because of the way it slows down the tablet. If you read about the OG N7, you will see that the issues are similar (but not as bad, for some reason).
Once again, my tablet was bricked and restored, and my issues have gotten ten times worse. Maybe I should have replaced the motherboard, but I didn't have the money to dish out at the time. Maybe my tab was faulty. Who knows....

My friend(‘s family) has a generic 7” android tablet, as well as an iPad Mini, and a iPad, and a Win 8 Tablet and a laptop and this and that etc.. You get the point – he/his family is LOADED.
Anyway, we were once discussing about using tablets, (This is when I used my tablet at school for a while before I got a new laptop to handle the power tasks and improve productivity – I’m going off topic) and I remember him saying something like the iPad Mini (what a rip off – wait what?! ) was better for playing games that involve movement (temple run) and portability since it’s easier to hold and smaller (obviously), but the proper iPad was better for everything else, e.g. Reading, watching a movie, browsing the web since it was bigger.
I do see where he is coming from. It is clear that bigger screens provide a better median of entertainment as it is easier on the eyes, and when having more than one person watching something, makes the viewing experience a lot better.
Though the downside to this is that less portable. It’s like comparing the Galaxy Mega to the original S mini. Many people don’t have hands big enough to hold with one hand, or pockets big enough or store the Mega, making it harder to hold and less portable, it contrast, the mini, is extremely portable, and it is easy to hold with one hand. It’s a good analogy.
Though, I have to stress this point, the answer to your question is dependent on what you want from a tablet, not what other people (like me) want.

Hmmm, that's weird, my tablet runs just fine and its on full stock everything. Just updated like 20 apps whilst playing temple run, beachbuggy blitz etc.. The game ran as smooth as always. (FYI, I once had to manually update Android via fastboot after the OTA update to .27.1 failed every time, That's when I lost my root access )
If the tablet annoys you that much, then go ahead and get the N7 if you think it will be less annoying. You have my approval. :good:
Just realized that I forgot to point out in one of the previous post that the TF300T has a better camera than the N7, so that'll be useful to know if your into the taking photos with tablet movement.

Have I tried a custom rom? Have you seen my signature in the first post? Lol....just poking fun at you at this point.
I certainly have not been able to run a game while installing/updating apps. It is becoming quite clear that my tab was faulty from the start. However, I still want to get the new N7 (N7.2, I guess) for my own purposes. Yes, the camera is better, and it did influence my initial purchase of the TF300. But over the past 17 months, I haven't taken more than 50 pictures with my tab, if that much at all. The lack of flash greatly depreciates the value of the camera. I'm not one to use my tab to take pictures outside, either, since my phone has a much better camera to begin with.
I just wanted the peace of knowing that I'm making a good choice for myself. I have never filled up my 32gb of internal memory, so I don't truly need expandable storage. The only thing that I'll miss about expandable storage is the times when I need a few files from another device, and I can easily pop in my sd card from my phone.
Which reminds me, do you have issues with sending files to the TF300? On many roms, I can only send a few files for a day or two after the initial flash, but it blocks any files after that. I have researched this, and many many people have the same problem. Do you? It sounds like you got a good device out of the bunch...
I see that you updated your post. Yes, it's faster than before, but that doesn't mean that it's not very laggy. Besides, I was feeling like 100 bucks when I made that signature...time to change, I guess.

The TF700T was actually the tablet I wanted since it had a faster processor and flash, but when I saw the $1200 NZD price tag it put me off. I bought the TF300T for $700 NZD instead. The draw backs of the tablet was worth the $500 saving. (1 NZ Dollars = 0.83 US Dollars, source: Google)
When you mean sending files to the tablet, do you mean via "adb push filename.extension", or copying and pasting using windows or both?
In the meantime, I'll start testing. I'll post the transfer time when it's done.

Anyway, I'm back from vacation, and I am now responding to yours. I was referring to sendong files via Bluetooth. I even tried sending a file from my tf300 to my brother's tf300 through Bluetooth, and it failed as well.
When I asked him about the lag, he doesn't experience any of it. So I have determined that my tab was slightly faulty when I bought it, but I thought it was normal. At this point, the problem has progressed past my tolerance level. Thanks for your input, and for testing.

Okay. Thanks for the clarification :good:. I will try transferring a file via bluetooth sometime today (most likely in the evening, since that is when I usually do this kind of stuff), after I finish moving the majority of the boxes around here to my new house. That way I'll have enough time to set everything up and make sure I don't get anything wrong, as well as not worrying about the boxes. (The furnitures going tomorrow. I don't usually use blutooth that much, so this will be interesting.
Again, sorry for the late reply. It's really because of the different time zone's we're in.

I run my TF300T fully stock. I agree with you, sometimes it feels laggy, but hey, it's a budget tablet with high-end specs (well, mostly). Anyway, like you, I intend to grab a 32gb N7.2 sometime during the rest of the year, hoping to catch the release of the LTE (mobile) version, but not out of disappointment on my TF300T, just because is way more practical to carry and use while in the streets. :good:

I'm not exactly purchasing a new tab out of my disappointment. It is my disappointment that sparked my curiosity of a new device. Somewhere during my search, I realized that I do not need such a large device for my daily use. I use my tab is portrait quite a bit, so a slimmer device is preferable.

We moved pretty much everything to the new house, but we're not connected to the fiber there. I'm currently at the old house, checking stuff and doing some final touch ups. We still have internet here. But I digress.
I'm running stock .15.3 rom and kernel. It has been rooted via motterchopper and has the XPOSED framework installed, along with a few hand modules. About a year and a bit old, with extended warranty. It's also has a locked boot loader.
I'm grateful for your appreciation; it's people like you that make XDA better as a community. :good:
you have my approval to get a N7.2013, as your TF300T doesn't seem to be the fasted of the pack.

Who said that I needed your approval? Just kidding.
I am using the new tablet (16gb version, since 32gb was nowhere to be found), and the difference between the two is amazing! It just updated all of the apps, and the tab felt just as if o just picked it up from sitting idle. You notice no lag whatsoever...so far. I don't regret my decision one bit. Got a warranty on this one, though.
The new size does take some getting used to, but I'm adaptable. The transition shouldn't take very long for me.

I one word Buy the N7 FHD NOW.
It is fast , slim , Portable , charges wirelessly and cheap with respect to what it can do.
I use it for Podcast ( both watch ) and steam to bluetooth, Play songs, ocassional gaming , Movies, browing( FB, Linkedin etc, Gmail ).
The only situation where I found it limited was reading Magazines in Zinio. Although fast enough the const zomming in and out takes the pleasute of E magazine .

Hello. I was thinking about picking up a tf700 but i wanted to know how its running today. IS it still quick? Do you still like it? Do you recommend it? it seems like a steal right now considering it only cost 199 on eBay brand new. The other option is the nexus 10 but the screen is not that much better, no sd support,and similiar antutu scores seem to make to make the transformer the better option. So what do you guys think. thanks for the response!!
At this point stock feels basically unusable. The good news is that there are some wicked cool ROMs that take care of those problems. If you're OK flashing ROMs then this could be a great bargain buy (especially if you can get the keyboard cheap too). The speakers aren't great but other than that it handles everything I've asked of it.

I would say a Nexus 10 is still the better option, unless you really like the keyboard dock and really need expandable storage. Custom ROMs can make the tf700 perform better, but in no way can it rectify hardware problem (really slow internal storage). I am sure a Nexus 10 on custom ROM can easily outperform any tf700 on custom ROM. ASUS is no longer supporting the tf700 with regards to software updates (still stuck with Android 4.2.1) while the Nexus 10 is rocking the latest version of Android (4.4.3).

The internal memory is proven slow. As others will say, if you unlock it and go with custom rom's, then things improve. How do you handle lag in your devices? If you are someone who stresses over apps taking a bit longer to open, some jutters moving around the windows, etc, then this is not the device for you if you are unwilling to unlock and install other software.
At $199, I'd buy it. To me it's a better investiment than some of the new tablets sold at this price range. With the keyboard dock this has replaced my laptop. I use Splashtop THD version to remote into my computer for anything that requires a pc. This version works on Tegra chips and doesn't charge you a monthly fee to remote into the pc if the devices are not on the same network. I use it through my work wifi and tethered to my phone with no problems.

If you can afford more than $200 for a tablet, you can get a better and newer device... However, for $200 brand new tf700, it is better than most of devices out there with that price range...
Yes, it is slow but it is usable on light loads or basic usages. You may want to use custom ROM to speed the device up... Make sure that you can unluck it, Good luck....:fingers-crossed:

I still love mine (in fact I have 2 at the moment - one on stock and one on Cromi-X 5.4 F2FS).
200 for a new one?? In the UK a used 32Gig one would cost around £230, a 64Gig one goes for £600 new £360 used (these include the keyboards).
I've set the 64gig one up on Cromi-X 5.4, using F2FS, but kept all other tweaks to the minimum. got a 128GB SD in the dock mounted as NTFS and a 64GB micro SD formatted in standard FAT32.
Hardly notice any stutter or drag tbh.
Would I go with a different tablet? I dont think so as I love the ability to use the keyboard dock, the one that could tempt me at the moment would be the Z2, but not for the price they go for or the Samsung Tablet S (once it is out but again I reckon it is going to be £££££££)
I hate mine. CROMi-X has helped a lot, but it still has a half-life of about three days before I have to wipe caches again. Sorry, I get impatient waiting for it to wake up. WiFi is horribly slow on it also.
The plus side is it has taught me that I don't actually need a tablet. I had dreams of streamlining at work with it, but the spiral notebook seems to work well enough (starts up instantly, no lag, etc. but search capability could use work).
Nowadays I basically only use it for ebooks, a handful of games, and YouTube when the WiFi interface feels like working. If I need to do any quick web lookups and am not near a desktop I just use my phone.

I'm really interested in getting an 8" Tablet. I'd be using it for movies, reading, surfing, gaming, etc. while at work and traveling. I was looking at this Shield and the Asus Memo Pad 8. I see that the Memo pad 8 is on clearance, so I assume they are releasing an updated version soon.
Both the Memo 8 and the Shield released at the same time. So does anyone know if Nvidia is working on an updated model of the Shield around the corner at all? Would hate to get one for a new one to be released a couple of months later.

i this oder the tablet i was say get the Shield i think they this came out with this 8" Shield so i dont think they be makeing a new one any time soon all so the Shield tablet is the best when it comes too android upgrades so if you are going too get a tablet get the Shield you be vary happy with it

wait and get the shield, trust me i had a galaxy tab S and i returned it for my shield, which was $120 less than the galaxy tab S, and its much more powerful runs everything super smooth, i also have a shield portable tho, thats what made me want to go with the shield tablet also, the asus memo pad sucks IMO
I am not sure because mine is super laggy a lot of time even though I have the latest update. My old Nexus 7 2013 runs smoother than the Shield. I hope mine is a lemon (getting a replacement due to dead pixels) . I will see if the new one is any better.

If you didn't hard reset after updating, well you need to. If you did, then you've a roque app maybe.

2, NVIDIA Shield Tablet + Controller 32GB/LTE/WiFi - $399
I picked the freakin' shield tablet over google's newest nexus. It's that awesome of a device.
I don't see a huge upgrade in specs in 2015 (Nexus N1 has good specs for the price but....the same) -- really, the K1 and Keplar are freakin' amazing.
If you do go and get one, stick around for my kernel soon to be released...
Yea I don't think that Nvidia is looking to create a new SHIELD Tablet anytime soon. They're still polishing this model and considering it's their first tablet, it seems they're going to play with it for awhile.
I believe my problem is Google Now Launcher. I just uninstalled it and things look to be a lot better. I will monitor for the next couple of days.

I just freaking remembered if you use GEL, to turn off " Ok Google" in the options.
If you limit to only recognizing voice on search screen bug goes away.
I'm sorry I forgot an just dawned that might be it.

A benchmark app says nothing about how fast the device is for normal everyday use. Sure, it runs every game I have tried extremely well, but it still have irritating slowdowns now and then in UI and apps like browsing, which makes it feel slower then my other much less powerful tablets for normal use.
I didn't mean should I get the memo 8 over the shield, I meant should I wait to see if a new 2015 shield is around the corner and wait for that newer model.
Finally found a store in Atlanta that had both the memo 8 and the shield on display. (after I asked the employee if they had them and he said no for both... Dumb ass).
Both felt great, I actually preferred the memo 8's feel over the shield. But know the shield had more power. So basically I will be getting the shield and my gf can get the memo 8 (their on clearance so I assume a newer memo 8 is around the corner).
Do any of you use the shield's flap case thing? Is it worth it?

It's a better-than-decent piece and does what it's supposed to do with any issues. Saying it's worth the $40 price tag is a bit of the stretch, though. Many people like having the flap because it makes it much easier to wake the device, since the wake/power key could have been designed much better.
While I was using it, I ended up unconsciously babying it, so I bought another case for like $12 off Amazon and now I don't care what happens to that case, lol
Thanks for all the responses. I'm about to pull the trigger, but have one last question. 16gb $300 model or 32gb $400 model? I'm with Verizon so the AT&T LTE wont benefit me, are there any other features other than LTE and 32gb storage on $400 model?
I'm going to get a 64gb sdcard anyway so would I be able to store all my apps and games on that, and run them well? I'm guessing I'd have to get one of the high end (high speed) microsd cards to run games/apps properly.
I think the only difference from the 16 to the 32 is the bigger storage option and the LTE. Since I am on sprint and only plan on tethering with my note 4. I went with the 16gb model and bought a 64gb card as well.
Other than when they talk about the bands. The only difference I see is;

My 2 cents coming from an iPad -
The Shield is lightning fast compared to my iPAD 2. When I compare it to my wifes Ipad Mini Retinia its about the same.
The screen is very very good on the Shield - I have no clue what others are saying its average. I have compared it to the Retina and its very very close and some instances better.
The form factor is great though the iPad Mini form factor is better for reading and browsing.. the shield is better for moving watching, gaming etc.
The speakers are amazing.

The ONLY slow down I have on 5.01 is when it first wakes up out of a deep sleep. Other than that I have 0 slow downs. I HAD slow downs when 1 I didnt do a full reset after an upgrade AND 2 Facebook and Facebook Messenger absolutely destroy the tablets performance. I dont know what facebook does with Messenger but that is a POS like I have not ever seen. It literally occupies a 1/2 of a core all the the time doing nothing. So... I have 0 slow downs except for right out of deep sleep. Prior to 501 I saw MANY slow downs.... I was not impressed. Now... I am impressed!
Browsing is amazing (recently with 501 and the new version of chrome)...
Battery life is HORRRRIBLE! Now.... I will preface that with I am comparing it to my iPad 2 and the iPad Mini which I could literally go days without seeing a charger with normal use. The shield however has a very powerful GPU in a very small form factor. So, its probably sufficient for the size, etc. I can only get even after removing bloat 5 hours of on screen time - thats it. I would get 50 % more than that on the apple products. This is my only complaint... but its one I live with and I can not fault the device due to its size and power.
SD Cards - I havent found a single person who has been 100% happy how it works. Everyone seems to have issues with either games not installing on them (inconsistent), accessing them in general (many successful after rooting), even issues with recovery images not being able to format large SD Cards. I would suggest if you can afford the extra $$ get the 32 GB if you think your going to need the storage. Reserve the SD card for movings, music and pictures (for now until they fix it).
WifI - horrible performance compared to every other device I have compared it to. If you have strong WiFi signal in your house you will be fine. If your already on the fringe (2 bars out of 4) forget it... this tablet may not even connect to the AP at any distance. Its also very sensitive to APs that are on the same channel. If your AP is on channel 11 and your neighbors channel is on channel 11 and your within 10 dB of each other, the tablet drops connections like crazy. The simple fix is to either get a booster, better antenna, better AP and change the channel... The device however is flawed and no software can fix these issues.
Developer Friendly - yes the platform is very developer friendly so if your into making custom roms, kernels, etc. This is a great tablet.
Quality - My tablet, excellent. but others have complained. So its a roll of the dice. Generally when everything works as it should its perfect. Unfortunately there have been lemons.
Nvidia Support - AMAZING! even with the lemons Nvidia is fast to respond. I have had many conversations with techs in their forums and they are almost as fast as Google when it comes to updates. I love that!
Software Quality - ****E!!! In my career I have never seen so many bugs (I run a division of software engineers - in software engineering for 20 years). I am shocked with how poor the quality assurance is. There are core user functions that broke in 501 - In my world these would have been show stoppers! But Nvidia let it go out the door. I am shocked honestly. 501 has to be the worst Quality OS revision I have seen from any product. They introduced regressions like screen corruption (its apparent in many many many games, apps, etc.), battery stats are all messed up, battery life inconsistent, some games no longer work at all. Nvidia and Google need to step it up on the quality side. The tablet is usable but for some it may not be - especially if one of the apps you use on a daily basis is now broken.
Wait or not? I dont think it matters. The hardware is not going to change and I dont think Nvidia or Google's code quality is going to change. They will fix these issues in the next release and break other things.
Its a question of whether or not do you go with Android or not. If you like to fiddle with your tablet its a yes... if not go with apple.
If you want a small form factor android then you go with the shield.
I recommend the tablet for its price, performance and support. I own it and for now will be keeping it. I personally dont like Apple - I dont seem them an innovative anymore.
But, If you want rock solid performance, quality and battery life - go with Apple.
Don't wait unless you are anal and are going to obsess over ever minor issue. If you are looking for gaming nothing out there can compare. The grid being free is amazing especially if you are like me and have not played any of the games on it. There is occasional stutter using 2.4ghz but I have loved multiple hours and game play is awesome. Battery is not great but I get between 4-5 hours and it typically take around 2 1/2 hours to charge to full.
I read all the negatives prior but quickly came to realize that most complaints appear to come from the same people. Be aware of the potential issues and decide if the risk is worth the reward.
Sd card if rooted works great, I have a 64gb samsung class 10 using folder mount almost all game data on external and everything runs fine. I could not recommend an ipad over this Tablet unless you are tech illiterate and want to over spend on limited storage so that you can pay tons for apps and check Facebook

I prefer gaming on the Nvidia Shield tablet and spend more time gaming on this tablet. I went with the 32gb model Shield due to more internal memory. There are some games that I cant move to the SD card. That is why I went with the 32gb model with a 64gb microsd.
Do not wait, and pick up the nVidia 32gb tablet. I have 22gb left on the internal memory on my nVidia 32gb after moving everything I could to the sdcard. So if I had the 16gb model I figured it would only be about 6gb left of internal memory.

If rooted use folder mount and you can move all
Trigger pulled, I'm now a Shield owner. Got the Nvidia cover, Fintie Cover, and 64gb Samsung Microsd. Been using my girlfriend's Memo 8 for the past week and think I'm now a tablet user (at least at work). Not sure if I'll use it for a lot of controller gaming (unsure if I will find a controller I like). I'm more of an Xbox controller lover than a PS4... but if it works I might give it a try. Haven't even turned it on yet.
Will attempt to root it here shortly while at work. Fingers crossed....
