My Charger - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my charger just quits... but not before I hear a little zzzt, zzzt. After that sound coming from the charger box the Xoom no longer charges. Anyone else having the same problem? Oh, and after some time it seems to come around. Totally weird and frustrating.

Your charger is obviously faulty, you might want to return it to motorola.

im suffering charging problems too, although I havnt noticed any funny noises.... but that's not to say they are not there.
Ill plug my xoom in to charge at night, and i see the little charging indicator in the battery display. I go to sleep thinking all is well, but when I wake up it has stopped charging at some random point before being full.
Usually when I do plug it in at night, it does start charging right away, I have to switch off the charger first, then back on and it works.
Is this normal for xoom users, or is my charger also faulty? Its very frustrating

[Q] TF101 NOT charging

Is anyone else having an issue with charging? it worked fine for a week or more. now when i plug it in, to any outlet, it wont charge at all.. they are considering RMAing the entire unit, and im going to be torked off if i have to wait weeks to get another. argh.
just curious if anyone else is having charging issues.
thanks
My unit doesn't charge if the battery is above 90%. I see no problems there, what % is your battery at? That is expected behaviour to an extent to prevent overcharging of the battery.

Mine did that once and I just left it alone for awhile and it started to work again on its own.
i only noticed it because its asking me to connect to charger now.
so its at 11% right now.
Tech wanted me to trickle charge to see if i get anything out of it. Its not working.
Is there any lights on the adapter? i cant remember? but i think the unit may be bad.
SOOOOO pissed, now i have to wait weeks for a replacement to show up.
Has anyone else had a unit they have had to RMA??? is so, did they send a brand new one, sealed in box? if so, i have an extra here, ill just use it and sell the RMA one when it comes in.
thanks
EDIT: i had it trickle charging in the off position. just turned it back on. then plugged it in to wall. seems to be charging now.. WTH. wonder if its something with the dock?
Thanks
Hi
Nice to have found your thread on this - mine was doing the same thing after I had if docked. Connected it to my PC and synced and then put it back in the charger and everything is fine.
Weird.
Since you guys seem new to this forum, I suggest you read the stickies. The "Ultimate Transformer Information Thread" mentions some specific adapter issues you should be aware of.

TF101 not charging after run flat issue - SOLVED
Hello
I also had this problem. The tablet drained the docking station dry, and then neither device would charge from the adapter.
I solved the problem as follows:
1) Remove table from docking station.
2) Turn tablet off completely.
3) Plug tablet only into the charger, at this point the tablet turned on, and began charging.
4) Allow the tablet to charge completely!
5) Reconnect tablet to docking station, and plug docking station into charger.
Voila, all charged Hope it works for others who have this issue!
Mine also had charging problems. When I charged it, it never reached 100%. I took it to the Asus repair center, and they called me today and said they got it to reach 100%. Also, above 90% it reports the battery status as full.
I also to them about the battery drain problem, and gave them my tablet with the dual battery widget installed. Told them to charge both the tablet and keyboard to full, dock the tablet, power off, and wait until morning to see the results.
I'll find out what happens tomorrow when I go see them in the morning.
TF101 not charging today...
It happened already once some time ago, but leaving the power adapter disconnected from the wall plug for 10min solved the problem.
Now it's happening again... and previous workaround is not working.
Tablet is TF101, no docking keyboard, last version of ICS installed.
I've checked the various threads for suggestions: of course I tried the various reboot options; the only thing I'm missing is the refrigerator, but the power adapter is cold (tablet is not charging since 2d, and battery is still alive...).
I've not checked the cable, but have cleaned with air the connectors (just to avoid dust inside).
Any suggestion is welcome.
Thanks
I have had my charger stop working twice in the past 6 months. Both times I put the wall adapter in a zip-lock bag and placed in my freezer for 30 minutes. Upon removing I plugged the usb cable back into the adapter and bam, everything was working fine again. From what I remember, there is a temperature sensitive circuit breaker inside the adapter that sometimes gets stuck. Even if the charger is cold or has been left alone it takes the dramatic temperature of the freezer to unsieze it. Good Luck it worked for me, twice.

not charging dock battery? =O

Last night my dock's "plugged in" light would not go on. I assumed it was a bad extension cord I was using, and went to bed. This morning I tried a different outlet, one that had a light plugged in so it was working, and it did not work still. I noticed it said "Chargining" in Settings>Battery after I unplugged it, and the Dual Battery Widget said it was 99% charging the internal battery. My dock battery is at 77%, and now my internal battery is at 100% and I'm plugged in, and I'm afraid that when the dock battery goes down it won't ever come back up again
I'm not sure what's wrong, did my dock battery break? I did accidentally step on the cord, forcing the connector to come out from an almost 90 degree angle from the cord and the connector about 2 days ago but it was still working fine after that. My tablet model is B50 and the warranty ran out in May I think. I'm using Megatron Rom, and just downloaded the latest Guevor kernel to see if that was the problem.. I unplugged my dock and used it till 99% and plugged it in and it said 99% full.
Used to be a huge problem which went away for quite a while seems to be resurfacing now

I guess I got lucky.. I smelled the charger and it smelled weird. And then I showed it to a friend and he took off the part that plugs into the wall, and I was like "I never knew that came off," so I firmly put it on again, and everything works! The LED light, the charge icon, dual battery widget shows both charging. Thanks though

Why did it discharge, and why won't it charge anymore?

Two days ago, I turned my Infinity off and docked it. Both batteries were fully charged. A few hours ago I picked it up again, and the tablet wouldn't turn on.
I plugged it into the wall outlet. It started charging and I was able to turn on the device. It had 0% charge, and the batteries on the dock were also dead. What I don't understand is: how can the Infinity and the dock discharge completely in that time even though it was supposed to be off?
I left it plugged in so that I could use it while it charges. After some time, it asked me to connect the charger and then turned itself off due to almost dead batteries. Cable was still plugged in, though the charging light was off.
Tried connecting the cable to the dock, no light. Tried connecting the cable to my computer, it didn't work. So, the cable must be faulty, right? I can still turn the Infinity on, it'll boot normally and turn itself off after it's reached the lock screen. There's a red exclamation mark on the battery icon that wasn't there in the first time I turned it on, does it mean anything serious?
I had it drain to zero once overnight. Wasn't completely charged but it was strange... hasn't happened since in fact it generally has very good battery life.
I would definitely try a new cable and or charger.
Yeah, I've asked the store for a new cable. They'll have to mail it to me, so my tablet will stay dead for a few days. Now I know why propietary connectors suck.
Anyway, it seems I'm not the only one that had problems with the charger. Many people have reported overheating, but that never happened to me. The adapter that came with my Infinity seems to be a newer model; the plugs can't be folded or detached.
Charger: I had that happened several times to the SL101. Turned out I had something else plugged into the USB and the adapter was overloaded and tripped. Unplugged for a little while for it to cool down and reset itself.
What do you mean you had something else plugged into the USB?
Anyway, I've left my adapter alone for quite some time. I'll go see if it works as soon as I get home.

I was charging a small 700 mAh battery through the USB. That was enough to trip the AC adapter.

Charging takes ages

I've plugged my Shield into the charger like 4 or 5 hours ago, now I was wondering why it was still charging, so I turned it on and the battery was at 60%, charging.
When I plugged it in, it was at like 10%.
The first charge took quite long too, I was hoping it charges faster by the second or third charge. But it doesn't.
Do you guys experience the same thing or should I try a different charger?
I measured the output of the charger and the results seem to be normal: 5,28V @2,48A

I would suggest trying a different cable and charging with your Shield powered down.
I did charge it when it was completely off, I also tried an other cable and charger and that didn't seemed to help much.
At least.. it's fully charged now after charging it for almost an entire day...
Do what most device owners do.. Charge the stuff overnight and don't worry about how long it takes... Since you are asleep and not using it anyways.
I think is a problem with you HW i mean you have a defect shield, take your waranty and return the shield to the store you bought it, or call nvidia, have you tried to calibrate your battery ? maybe that will help.
how do I calibrate it?
And I'm not sure if I can RMA it because I'm from Europe and bought it from a private Ebay dealer.
New though, not used.
edit: I noticed that it charges faster when its turned on. weird behavior isn't it?

To calibrate a battery such as the one the shield uses, you have to fully discharge it till the shield shuts off. Then leaving it off fully charge it. Do not use it while charging or interrupt the charging.

Anyone else having wireless charging issues?

Wireless charging seems flaky at best. Sometimes, it works like a champ. Sometimes, my phone will stop charging, start charging, stop charging, start charging, etc. until I get annoyed, pick it up, and put it back on the charger. I left it on the charger overnight and found it at 87% this morning. I don't know if it wasn't charging properly that whole time, or if it got to 100% and then just stopped charging. Any tips on this? Anyone else having similar issues?
FYI - this is the Samsung charging pad and the phone with no case or anything on it.
No issues here. Work flawlessly
I'm also having the issue with wireless charging starting and stopping. My charging pad, however is an ebay qi pad. Seems very position dependent on both of the pads I was using successfully with my S3.
The behavior is that it will start charging, then 10 seconds to a minute later stop. Then start....then stop...
S6
I have the sony charging pad and I've noticed my S6 stops charging when I get any kind of notification...
No issues here
you shall use 2A chargers to be effective.
I do. I have an official Samsung 2A charger with an official Samsung USB cable attached to an official Samsung wireless charger.
I haven't paid attention to it throughout the day, but I did notice that if I place my phone on the wireless charger it seems to charge to 100% and then it will stop charging. I know a few nights ago the samsung puck was green when I fell asleep but in the morning when I woke up I was down to 92%. I will be taking the wireless charger with me to work tomorrow so I will know for sure if it stops charging at 100% or if it does what you are describing.
Both my gf and I bought our Galaxy s6 edge on release day at Bestbuy and with the preorder the wireless chargers we're included free. The past 2 nights both of our phones have had this issue. Mine only charged to 87% yesterday and 93% today. Hers was at 88% yestwrday and 96%today.
I'm curious if the wireless charger takes a much longer time to completely charge the device to 100%.
For me better wireless charger than wire... I think I've better battety life.
With wireless charging I use wire charger included.

Does wireless charge work with OTG plugged in?

Thats makes sense but I've my wireless charger next to be bedside table and I was woken up but the charger plugged in notification sound constancy going off.
It would be really great to turn those sounds off. Also, you have to assume that there's some battery level where it will restart wireless charging, right?

This is what I was hoping for when I said above that I saw it hit 100% and then overnight it drained to 92%. I would hope that if it falls below 97% or so that it would charge again to 100% so it keeps cycling but right now I am not sure if it does it.
I've noticed the exact same problem with mine. I got the free Samsung official wireless charger from Best Buy. The phone charges to 100% every night but when it finishes, usually around 3 or 4 a.m., it just stops charging and doesn't start again. So this means that every day when I wake up my phone has drained to around 90%. This never happened with my Nexus 5 on a generic wireless charger. It always kept it topped up until I remove the phone. This is really annoying.
BTW if you go into the settings menu under battery, you can see exactly when your phone stopped charging.

that sounds like the best reason untill i hear anything more concrete, might try charging tonight direct via the cable and see if it hits 100%
but with no replaceable battery they may have introduced this to prolong the life of the battery.
I totally get not overcharging. But it's got to kick back on at some point. Leaving your phone on a charger overnight should basically guarantee 100% in the morning. Maybe at 97% it could kick back on, or at 100%, it could go into a trickle mode. I'm sure some custom development will come along and fix this problem.
Here's hoping for an update or something through soon. Gonna test a full charge before tonight and see if it actually states it reaches 100%
I'll post what I find.
