The android game DemonHunter by BiCORE does not run on rooted devices. When you open it, it asks for su access. Whether you say yes or no, the game never continues.
Anyone know how they can tell if you are rooted? Is there a way around this besides only temp rooting when you need root and making sure you aren't rooted whenever you want to play the game?

Apps can tell if you are rooted - the ones which require root. I don't know why a game like that would ask for root access. Only apps which require root should ask for root access e.g. setcpu. Does this happen for all your games?
Hopefully I don't get flack for this but I was wondering if.there is a way to hide your root ness? Because it worked on my stock rooted ics. When I installed the cybergr mod.it.didn't work again.

Install OTA Rootkeeper. Some apps like Amazon Video feel the need to deny root users because they think we are all pirates or something, luckily OTA Rootkeeper allows your device to be unrooted temporarily.

I just rooted my Asus TF300 using the Debugfs tool-- which was successful. I don't plan to change roms or do anything exotic besides the base root.
Besides installing "Rootkeeper" is there anything else I need to install/setup? Also, to the best of my limited knowledge, if I ever want to unroot, can I just run the Asus settings reset?

I dont know about needing to install anything by I would highly recommend ; voodoo ota root keeper, adfree, ezoverclock and browser2ram. ATP tweaks is also a good option but not sure how easy it would be to reverse any changes.
You have already gone through the trouble of rooting so why not enjoy some of the fruits of your labour.

He is not unlocked. Just rooted...there's a big difference.
Voodoo Rootkeeper has a feature called "Temp. un-root". Click on that and it will save a copy of your root to re-apply when you want to, or after an update. Don't forget, make sure you save a copy of the root when an update comes out, or you will have to start from scratch (if they don't plug the hole that allows us to root)...So it always good to keep a root backup before updating.

Thanks Bob for pointing out my error. My response has been corrected to state ROOTING as intended, albeit my suggestions remain the same.
Thanks for the help gents!! I backed up the root and have decided to hold off on unlocking for the time being. I mostly wanted root for PS3 controller access.

If you have SU installed your phone is rooted. CWM is a recovery, and doesn't have anything to do with SU other than you need root to get either one.
You are already rooted.
Just out of curiosity, why did you root your phone if you have no idea what it does? What are you trying to attain with root access?

Well yes it is on there, when i flashed the zip and rebooted, it was on there.
And well, a friend of mine had a s2 and he had the hacked sky go app, and tbh that sounded amazing.
That is what i wanted. The main reason really. But someone said about having s-off on it. But it is still on s-on.

I see, I'm not sure what the hacked sky go app does, does it enable you to watch Sky Channel wherever you are?
You can still be rooted with S-On, you just cannot perform certain low level functions.
You currently are rooted with CWM installed, so go ahead and install the APK you are looking to and grant it root permissions when asked, but be careful what you install.

Yeah I have tried to install the apk, but it wont come up on super su for permission. I try and open the sky go apk and it says sky has stopped working. When I click on the super su, only lucky patcher is on there. No other apps are on there. Do I have to install the full verson of super su?

you have to successfully open the app in order for it to ask for SU permission and then for you to allow it, the fact that it force closes means it's not even getting a chance to ask for SU before it FCs.
Either the apk is bad or conflicting with your system.
Boot into CWM and go to Advanced, Fix Permissions and reboot, see if you can open it now. Otherwise try to find another hacked APK and let's see if that works.

So I did the usual thing I do before an OTA update, I opened Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, protected the root, and then un-rooted. After applying the update I went back to voodoo and restored the root and got all the checks so it appears to be fine. Now I no longer get superuser prompts, but the app is there. Root Checker says im rooted but typing su in the terminal emulator shows me the # prompt but it looks different (with some permission denied) . Can someone help me forward the root to 4.2.1 or explain what I'm dealing with? I looked all over for a similar thread but couldn't find anything. The method I described is what i used for the last 4-5 updates and it kept the root just fine.
Also, I'm rooted but not unlocked. I would prefer fixes that doesnt involve unlocking,

I tried it and now I have both superuser and supersu. I still do not get prompts to allow/deny superuser acess and the apps that require root still do not work (like Volume+, Root Explorer, Browser2Ram...). Whem applying motochopper it seemed to apply successfully too.
This doesnt seem to be a common problem. Did I go about restoring the root wrong?

The most effective way to use motochopper is to uninstall all root before you use it.

I cant access the system file since root explorer tells me I'm not currently rooted. I know that I need to remove su from system/xbin or similar. Is there another way to access/delete that file? I'm not willing to run a factory reset so thats not an option.

The smartest thing to do once you rooted is MAKE A TITANIUM BACKUP of all your apps and settings. Don't corner yourself! since you're not unlocked, there is very limited action which you can do when things go wrong.... like right now. Also why people rooted? so they can installed rooted apps AND BACKUP their setup. So I don't know how much root you still have with your device (sometime some apps may cached and you still able to use root with them), you may try to un install root using superuser app option or you can download a backup app from the market, make a backup of all your apps, then you may need to factory reset or even re flash the full Asus firmware. If you reflash, it's very simple to gain root back.

Thanks for all your help buhohitr! I performed a wipe, updated to 4.2.1 then used motochopper and it was flawless. I followed with a titanium back up of everything once I was done.
Ok i have an app called Bradford that wont work if your phone is rooted. Well suggestions was to use Voodoo OTA, unfortunately the app doesn't work for 4.3 android (Galaxy Nexus Custom Rom). Other apps have bad reviews cause A) it deletes the root and have to redo it. B) Bricks your phone C) causes root to deny access all the time. (..cough cough.... HIDE MY ROOT APP) Is there a way for me to hide SU BINARY SAFELY, or an app like xprivacy to deny Bradford to scan for rooted phone. PLLLLLLLZZZ HELP.

I tried temp unroot a lot of times, most of the times it ends up messing up my root and 1 time it even soft bricked my phone -_-

Yup i agree. But we are XDA someone needs to find an answer. We have codes to stop people from hogging the wifi and ban their IP. ANd no one cant create a successful app to temp unroot. Well i know i cant.
i just downloaded kingoroot and plugged my phone in (the pc version) my phone is ZTE Zmax 2 Z955L from straight talk i think i just got it rooted BECAUSE
Kingo root says "root succeeded", and on my phone, a thing popped up asking to give root access to "super user"
however, the root check apps return it as not rooted. i dont know what this means and i am up for sharing screen shots.

Please give me your thoughts about this

okay so i trie getting SuperSU from chainfire, asked for the binarys, so i hit install. but it wouldnt do anything but sit there at the installing window so i rebooted my phone and root was gone. in the kingo super user app, all the root access items that i allowed were still listed but it said there was no binary.
i tried rooting again with kingoroot and it said it failed.. not sure what to make of this
but do please give me your input
Kingo PC is working now. But your need to uninstall kingo superuser app in order to get root. or you need to go into kingo superuser app to Deny and Allow a few time for it to work. it's only a temp root. we need TWRP now!

You could try factory resetting the device... I haven't tried that but just a thought.
I'm hoping this might be the first step to getting root on Zmax 2!!! (I also hope I helped a bit)
King root via PC worked fine for me. I have debloated so far with success. I'm check for a super user dependant test, like hot-spot for super users and we'll get back at ya!

Wow, can you double check to make sure you actually rooted the phone, Hemanolio? If the Zmax 2 is truly rooted (and not just temporary) then a lot of people out there are going to be really happy! :laugh::laugh:
I just bought one myself from best buy. just waiting for it to get delivered in the next few days.
The Kingo App (kingoapp.com) worked as a temporary root. Kingroot didn't work for me but I didn't have the drivers installed when I attempted to use it first. This worked for me on two Zmax2 phones and allowed me to remove all bloatware. Both my devices are firmware B12 (ATT GO Phone requires ATT sim to update). Works like a charm but seems to be temporary.
AFAIK ZTE sells an unlocked version of this phone that isn't carrier branded so eventually it might be possible to get more reliable updates that way or perhaps a clean stock rom with just ZTE bloat. I don't have much hope on all that though.
What are you using to remove bloatware? KingoRoot successfully rooted my phone and the Root Checker is reported that it's all good, but every app that I use to remove the apps is failing. I can't manually do it either, I get errors.

You can use the Kingroot app itself to remove things you don't want namely the ATT software all of it plus all the Google apps minus the play store.
Not really
Kingo does not really work. All I succeeded in doing was changing my search engine in firefox. I'm sure it's great for all the other phones, but this one does not work.
EDIT: Should mention mine is Z958
Using Kingo root and all it tells me is unknown network error.

So, apparently it was temp rooted by kingo, but was able to install king root (which failed to root), but every so often king root pops up with a root error warning...I press the back button and it takes me to the full king root app with all the options, including debloating, and now Wifi Access Point app works. Tethering was my main desire, so I'm satisfied. Again, I temp rooted with kingo and then installed kingroot
zmax 2 does have perma root
mine is currently rooted (fully & permanently) just had to disable system read/write protection with this method: androidforums(dot)com/threads/zte-write-protection-for-zmax-and-other-zte-phones.1040331/
afterwards i ran kingo root pc, then ran the droid version* then used supersume. voila persistant root working on z955a zmax 2
does this help anyone? hope so
ran both pc and droid version because pc version was not detected by supersume. droid version was. using droid version only might be quicker and still work. not sure

Yep. Makes sense because the Z955A is the unlocked version.
For folks who have the Z958, the story isn't as easy. But the info should help the Z955A users.

I'd bet the Z955L is locked in the same manner as the Z958.
I may attempt to root my Z958 but not until I get my new phone (the Z958 is a backup since my Nexus was destroyed).

I have a ZTE ZTEX2 model Z955A, by mistake, I installed a customized recovery of another model and now I can not access the recovery mode, the black screen remains and I have to restart so that the cell phone can restart, can you help me to restore the original recovery?
