[Q] I can haz new phone?!? - General Questions and Answers

So I decided to breach into the android type of phone, I'm coming from a WM 6.5 Imagio with Verizon Wireless. One of the draw backs of my last phone was it's popularity and lack of community support for it so I don't want to make the same mistake again. So what phone can anyone suggest to me that is basically powerful, good screen, no keyboard, android and very popular?

Thunderbolt?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App

Thunderbolt has good development and fits the parameters you mentioned. Verizon should have some new phones in the next month but who knows how they will be as far as dev support.

The Thunderbolt is a really well put together phone with awesome speed and a lot of support. If you want to wait a little longer, look into the Droid Incredible 2 or the Droid Bionic.

I went an took a look at the Thunderbolt and loved the phone right away, I'm now the proud owner of one, thank you guys!

I love this phone

I just came from the Atrix. I thought that I would be OK running the atrix without mods(locked bootloader), but i think i went through with-drawls from CM. Motorola blows goats with their locked blootloaders. Ther stock price is down 10%
Design Gears bricked his phone, that was the final straw. I will never by a Motorola phone again
Loving it too!
Coming from Leo I have found it very similar just with more mpx and RAM/ROM
Bye physical buttons as well.
So far so good (2 days with it)
some testings have showed that browsing speed of Atrix is not faster than Inspire. Proud to own an Inspire.
I agree, it is a great phone. Had it for a week now, it was a nice upgrade from my HTC Aria.
Love this phone too. Coming from 4 years of every iPhone - finally got bored and made the jump.
At first it was like a really bad break up - thought about the iPhone 4 every single day, missed it when I would hold or caress another phone, and wanted many of the features/memories back. Now after about two months, rooting, flashing to MIUI (following weekly builds), cattleprod's Cyan04.7 Kernel, and other tweaks and mods, I'm wholeheartedly fulfilled and more ways then before. Can't imagine going back to that terrible world I was in before.
Don't get me wrong, I have an iPad 2 and wouldn't give that up for the world (or any other Android tablet) though. Apples vs oranges though.

Came from Iphone 4 and I'll never go back. Been with apple for past few years with 3g, 3gs, 4 and never again. The customization of Android makes it all worth the transition 100 times over.
So yes needless to say I love my Inspire 4g! In fact trying to talk buddy of mine into buying one instead of the Infuse. I prefer HTC.

The infuse has about 1/2 the RAM and only 200 MHz more CPU (easily in the stable OC range)
Also, the only bad thing about moving from the iPhone was the apps I had bought. It was SO easy to sync my contacts to Gmail.
I love his phone also. After rooting, custom Roms etc... this phone is even better. I switched from being and Iphone user and will not go back. I am waiting to get my wife one for her upgrade so she can get rid of the Iphone also.

After owning a LOT of phones, this has been my favorite by far....love the aluminum build quality, HTC is my fave manufacturer, sense is great, development support is awesome, everything!
Sadly I had to get rid of mine today I needed the money for my wifes bday, but I'm hoping soon things will turn up and I'll have the money to buy another one...I miss it already. I hope more people buy this phone so they can realize how amazing HTC + Android are...run from your iPhones please.

Wow man really? My wife would be pissed at me if I sold anything I owned for her birthday. I bet you could make her dinner, make her a card, get some wine, get something awesome for dessert and just enjoy her company for an evening instead....Girls are suckers for attention.

You know, the guide you were pointed to in your recent thread asking the same thing, that evidently you refuse to read.

I don't think you have been trolled. Being trolled usually = picked on for no reason.
Count me in on the Inspire love. I've had mine for a couple months now and find it still to be an exceptional smartphone. I haven't rooted mine but I do use custom launchers. Currently using GO Launcher EX with the GoContacts/GoDialer and continue to be amazed by this Inspire.
I can't take screenshots on my Inspire but this is exactly what it looks like from these screenshots of my HD2. The only difference is the taskbar.

I was looking at the thunderbolt but i am not in a 4g area so I am thinking about the incredible 2 any thoughts on that?
Incredible 2 is locked down, no roms, especially not cyanogen. OG incredible has plenty of roms though, including CM7. Motorola's phones are also not rom-friendly. LG, Sony Ericsson, and samsung's phones are not locked down although I don't think there's much of a development scene for any of those manufacturers Verizon phones yet.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
does it look like there will be any roms in the near future for the inc2 cause verizon is not offering the og inc anymore and i have never been a fan of motorola so no problem there and the on sony phone i see is that new playstation one
I would recommend the thunderbolt

Thinking about a Thunderbolt

I've had the thunderbolt but once I bought the Rezound I sold the thunderbolt but kinda want it back so I have both or should I wait and see if HTC releases another HTC phone on Verizon?? Just want to have choices in what phone I carry.

I personally would hold off and see what they come out with next year - waiting always pays off, especially when having to keep that same device for 20 months until you can upgrade. Also taking into consideration that they are making phones with a lot better batteries too.
Ya I know I jump on the Thunderbolt wagon quick now I have the Rezound but I want a backup Thunderbolt.

I have both the incredible and now the thunderbolt. I still have not decided which one I am going to use but the thunderbolt is very nice.
I am going to pick up a rezound battery and see how it runs compared to the incredible.
If you can pick up a thunderbolt on the used market fairly cheap I say go for it.

If you're looking to root I would add that with the right rom the battery problems can be eliminated pretty well. I'm running infectedroms eternity nightly and a performance governer on setcpu and after more than 22 hours on battery I was still at 70 percent battery

Thunderbolt is the best phone on the market still, IMO. The gigantic community backing it makes it better than anything else out there. Unbelievably tweakable and customizable. Great ROMs and great kernels.

Wanted to thank everyone for the advice and say sorry for posting my thank you so late. So I took some advice and I'm going to hang onto my Rezound and when something nice comes around use the Rezound for my second line. I'm the same way with HTC. I had an Eris, Incredible (wife's), Thunderbolt, and now an Incredible 2. I love the Thunderbolt but I wanted something with more development and LTE is still abut 10 miles from me. I did buy a Rezound battery for it and I'm currently using it as a little ICS tablet. I might sell it but I might end up regretting it.

I just actived the nexus for my dad, honestly im pretty jealous lol, everything is so smooth. I Still love my thunderbolt just that dev is pretty slow right now hopefully it picks back up again soon
Just got rid of my bolt a few days ago. I came really close to deciding to throw it against a brick wall instead of selling it. I hate it that much. Got the GS2, I absolutely love it.
I am on the Thunderbolt for the 3rd time now. I have had the Nexus, Rezound and the Razr Maxx. The only phone I liked better than the Thunderbolt is the Razr Maxx. I think I will get the Razr Maxx again but I will keep the Thunderbolt around for my second phone!

What phone are you guys picking up after the G2x?

I'm thinking about getting a new phone soon... I wanted to pick up the HTC One X but reading about so many faulty devices over on the forums I'm kinda hesitant now. Still wondering whether or not I should make the plunge; on the other hand the 4S looks pretty interesting as well so that's also an option. So does the Xperia Arc S.
I need to get the phone before Julyish since I'm going overseas to study.
I don't see the newer phones (even One X, Galaxy S3) being much better than the G2x already. Sure they have ICS, but all the apps I run are fine on GB. Plus the extra cost to upgrade vs the ~$200 out-of-contract price of G2x on $30/mo plan doesn't justify it.
With all pricing aside, what's in ur opinion the best phone on the market right now?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
I wana trade my g2x for a nexus s. Or sell and buy a sensation. Won't get a new phone cuz its first new Gen phone. So wait for the better improvement phones
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
S3 only thing that catches my eye now, waiting until the next nexus line looks, and if LG follows through ill upgrade and sell the phone, if not then I'll keep it is a backup and put the mt3g in my antique case with my g1
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Galaxy Note for T-Mobile, Galaxy S 3 for T-Mobile, Nexus Tablet.
That is what catches my eyes but in reality, my G2X will do just well for like 4 years more just as my Etched Nexus one does. My G1 is just too slow now.
Sensation rocks because the developer support is unparalleled. But the S3 is fantastic, and if you want a big screen the Note is excellent. And the One X, while it does have a few kinks in terms ram management, its arguably the best phone out there. Tried it in the store and it is unreal fast

Screw the carriers and their neutered phones. Sgs3 is getting a dual core across the board in the US. From now on, I'm only buying direct from Google and the carriers can take their contracts and shove them... if you know what I mean. I'm waiting for the next nexus, which should be available to buy by Thanksgiving.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2
I was going to get the s3 untill they took the quad core out of it.
I didn't really want to wait for the next big device to come out, so I just got a Galaxy Nexus. I really couldn't be happier. I still have my G2x to test some ROMs on and as to use as a backup phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
.....Iphone
Look at the post for the s3 in the general section, and then look at the comparison for the new krait CPU that will be in the sgs3, yes it is a bummer that its only a dual core but how much utilization will a quad be used? With the research I've done I'm more then happy with what the stateside sgs3 has to offer just have to decide other things my previous post stated.
And don't worry my mt3g isn't going anywhere like my g1 its safe and sound lol.

If I stick with android I won't buy another non Nexus phone. If the manufacture updates the phone any it won't be updated for long and in most cases 3 months later there will be a slightly refreshed version that comes along and goodbye support for the phone you got. I had a Samsung Vibrant well you know that support died when the Galaxy S 4G came out You all know the support on the G2X and I also have a mytouch 4G which is running 2.3.4 just like my G2X which I also don't see it getting updated either to ICS.
As long as I know the phone will have xda support and Dec community support from the manufacturer I'll get it. Like the sensation that thing is fully supported, the HTC Vivid that's on at&t is extremely supported, sh¡+ even the G1 is lol....

I jumped ship to the HTC One S. Besides the pentile screen it can hold its own against the One X, if not beat it at benchmarks and in my opinion just as good as anything Samsung is releasing. I love the overall build quality and feel of the One S and the 16gb storage is more than enough for me. I tried to love my G2x, I was even convinced that it was the best phone out there but the software/hardware issues finally got to me.

HTC ONE S upgrade

Hey everyone. A sad time indeed. My 1yr old doing his exploring has thrown my beloved one s down the stairs and broke her the case cracked open and some insides were broken. Only faults I can find so far are that my sound no longer works. Speaker nor headset so I am looking to replace her. I bought her the first day T-Mobile released the one s and loved her since having rooted her and running a great 4.2.2 ROM on her since she never left ICS.
Though it brings me to near tears to ask this, does anyone have any recommendations for a new phone? I heard something about a new HTC one series and other thoughts are nexus 4 and galaxy s4. I prefer top of the line devices but easy to root and good ROM supports are a must.

It completely depends on your preference. Hardware is constantly evolving and so are options. You say you love your one s but you need to ask yourself what you love about it. If you love the comfortable sense feeling, you could look into the new htc one, though sense 5 is a vast difference from previous versions. If you want the best hardware on the market go with the s4. If you like the smaller size check out the nexus 4. Personally, I would recommend the S4. Guaranteed huge rom support and as top of the line as you could get this year. Do some research and see what fits you. Im a Note 2 user of about 3 months and love it more every day.

If you can wait a little longer Google will announce the new Motorola X series, perhaps this can be of promise as well.

If you want build quality (emphasis - it is stunning), like HTC's sense rom, want the beats audio/boomsound, and maybe other things I definitely would recommend the HTC One. Even with my perfect-condition One S was contemplating the switch to the One but decided to save money. Since you want a new phone, there's nothing stopping you! The phone is also slightly larger at 4.7" (whereas the One S is 4.3").
Let us know what you choose.
Edit: Awkward didn't realize you had actually bought the Nexus 4 already. Great quality build budget phone that is on the smaller side too. (Just a little outdated as the Nexus 5 is being anticipated but it will still get quick android updates).
