Is it possible to do usb file transfer? The drivers I downloaded from asus.com don't appear to be working.
I am getting the following in device manager.
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Hi, I'm having an extremly annoyning issue with my S8530. I can't seem to make Windows XP SP3 32-bit recognize properly my phone. I have install all the drivers I could find (old, new, from official site, from the undergorund of the internet) and it still gets stuck on detectic USB Serial Port giving just the message that something went wrong and it can't install driver (from auto-detecting devices from Windows). It did install Composit and Modem parts of the drivers but it allways stuck at that part no matter what driver I pre-install, how many restart I do to the PC, how many USB ports I keep chainging, how many USB cables I swap, how many restart I give to the phone. I'm starting going bananananananananananananananananananas.
Any ideeas are greatly apriciated.

Are you trying to get the USB Mass Storage to work or the ADB over USB?
The normal Windows Mass Storage driver should work on anything.
If you are trying to get the ADB driver to work you may need to
add your VID/PID to the INF file for the ADB driver.

ADB over USB so I can make Kies recognize my phone, wich won't work in Mass Storage. And it should be plug and play (after installing Kies wich installs the drivers or by just intalling the drivers alone). I don't have other machines to trie with Windows 7 (wich allways worked before) and my current PC barelly handles 5 open tabs of Chrome so no Windows 7 options here.
Plug your phone into the Windows box.
Go to Device Manager and find under Properties the VID/PID.
Check the INF file for the ADB driver and see if your IDs are in there.
If not, make a section like all the other sections with your VID/PID in it.
Install the driver.
Hello,
I wanted to update the ROM I am using, went through all of the steps and ran into a "set_metadata_resursive: some changes failed (Status 7)" error - this is apparently caused by an old version of the recovery. I am using CWM V6.0.2.5 (very outdated) so this seems correct. I already did a full wipe and currently only have a single rom.zip file which is unflashable because of the error.
I was unable to connect to computer using the USB Mass Storage on any computer (Windows). I used to get the error 28 (Drivers are missing) message in Device Manager. I tried to install Google USB drivers, Windows was however unable to find them when I point it to the directory containing the drivers. I figured out the Hardware ID and modified the Google USB drivers to install.
Now I have my Nexus connected to my laptop, it shows up as an Android Composite USB Interface and nothing happens when I use the 'mount USB storage' option. What should I do next?
I am using the 9023 version of Nexus S with the v6.0.2.5 version of CWM.
Hardware ID from Device Manager: USB\VID_18D1&PID_D001&REV_0231
Try Universal Naked Driver and install a new recovery using fastboot.

here how usb is working on me :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48666642&postcount=227
I started to have this issue since I have formatted my PC (I've got Windows 7 Professional).
If I connect the device without the debugging USB activated, the PC doesn't recognize it, such as the device doesn't exist. Neither the classic sound which the PC does when you connect something to the USBs ports. Nothing, without the debugging USB my PC doesn't recognize nothing, and the device only goes charging, the notify of the USB connected doesn't appear, it could be because the PC doesn't recognize the device.
But if I activate the USB debugging my PC recognizes something. The auto-installation from Windows Update for the drivers starts (it says "Nexus 5"), but it doesn't find any driver on Windows Update. So I've downloaded the original Google USB drivers. I've gone on Computer -> Device -> Right click on Nexus 5 -> Update of the drivers. So I selected the unzipped folder but Windows doesn't install the drivers. It says it's impossibile to find the driver for the device, but I've selected the correct folder!
I've also tried to download the drivers with SDK Manager, but even in this way Windows doesn't install the drivers.
I've also tried to download the "naked drivers" from XDA, but that was the same result.
So I don't know how to do. Why Windows doesn't recognize my device?
My Nexus 5 is still with the stock firmware.

I had this issue with my first N7 2013. I ended up RMAing it because of touchscreen issues, and the replacement never had the issue. From my experience, I can only deduce it's a problem with the hardware.
I'm unable to transfer files between the device and PC for the missing driver, or so the MiPCSuite software tells me. My PC doesn't recognize the device at all when connected in transfer files mode. My Win8.1 is updated.
Which driver(s) am I missing and where's a secure place to get them?
Help is very appreciated.
I have been trying to install the Google USB Driver so I can flash a custom rom. when I tried to install it, I got this error: "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows x64-based systems"!
I'm using Windows 10, x-64-based.
Any solution?
Does not really help with Win10 but that convoluted USB-driver situation in windows is one of the reasons why I switched to Linux.
Still, if google's own installer doesn't help:
https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb
...perhaps another, more OEM-specific driver will work:
