Who is Thinking of Jumping Ship to the SGS2?

Now that it is official I am not sure if it is the device that is getting me excited or all the hype around it. I really like the idea of the larger screen and super thin body. Wish it was qhd though. I guess with every good thing comes a bad thing......
Thinking the only way to get it without spending money is to add a line, cancel my 3D's line and sell the 3D on Craigs list. That should cover the both costs.......Anyone know what Sprint's max cancelation charge is?
Like I said, just thinking about it now and would like to hear what others are planning on doing. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a flame war......Just looking to see if people jumping ship have a better way to get there then what I was thinking of doing......

The SGS II will only be a good phone because of the Dev support. Samsung has a hard time updating the software for some reason. Gingerbread hasn't even been rolled out to the original Epic for god's sake.

Hopefully if we don't get trolls and people give there honest opinions this thread can stay open because I really want to see what people have to say and what they will be doing now that the device is official.
I have been with HTC for the past 5 years but if something better comes along I am not afraid to go....
Obviously no one has played with it yet but I want to know people's thoughts just based on the announcement and if they are regretting the 3D purchase....

The epics an exception. They can't seem to get the keyboard and radio figured out. This is the reason all sgs2s will be the sane and not have a keyboard lol. You also have to remember that update fiasco had more to do with carriers than Samsung themselves. The sgs had their updates right on time. I'm also curious about the op question. I've always wondered what would happen to your handset if cancelled within the first 6 months.

Well i guess it depends on you, I like a thinner device and i know it will have a better camera but I hatethe cheap feel of Samsung devices and.the updates , gingerbread is over nine months old and nothing official for the epic, so what would make me think they will get it on time on the second.device, same thing goes with the photon MOTO devices rake forever to update, that's why I stick with the EVO 3d but all 3 phones are great phones

Well, google didn't have much luck with the nexus s at first either Hence their nickname the Nexus B lol
I won't lie the, gs2 is a beast of a phone. I also think the E3D has been underutilized so far though, this phone has a lot more potential than it gets credit for. Plus the Evo was updated to gingerbread around the same time the epic was getting froyo, it would have came before but HTC waited for gingerbreak to be patched before pushing the update.

I hate to admit it as I have been a die-hard HTC fan, but, as far as my experience is concerned (on 3rd E3D) I think they really botched this flagship. YMMV, of course.
So long as the SGS2 has a radio that is as good (read: no weaker than) the E3D I'll be happy. The Radio on the NS4G was pitifully weak, the E3D is no better...even after a few. I can live with this. The signal strength indicator can't be trusted on it's own, go by actual measurements and most importantly missed/dropped calls and roaming....and I miss and drop and roam more than ever. It sucks. I do love this phone. I will greatly miss the qHD.
I became fine with the uber-weak radio, but, the final straw is the increasingly bad power-on fiasco. Sometimes it does, some times it doesn't. Some times it will be plugged in with a green light locked up tight (requiring a battery pull and SD card pull) *AND* have a dead battery on top of it. It's at the point where I have a backup alarm set up. Yeah yeah yeah, if I need an alarm clock USE an alarm clock...well, no other phone ever gave me any issues, so, I'm going to say that it is not unreasonable to expect my phone to A> turn on and B> charge while plugged into the charger.
I've tried hard, I do love this phone...even the horrid form factor has really grown on me. But I barely use the 3D enough to really miss... I may keep the E3D, it is a rather unique phone, but, SGS2 here I come....Also, aside from touchwiz (which is easily disgarded) it is a nearly stock Android experience....and Samsung has Cyanogen on their payroll. That can't be bad.
I will miss you guys, I'll be back to visit though. It has been fun.

Honestly, I think its more insecure when somebody has a decent phone and has to make a thread asking for their peers/competitions approval to get the other phone. Btw, I have a nokia 1100. Do you think I should upgrade to the nokia 6630?

The reason the new phone does not appeal to me that much is because it is WIDE -even wider than the Evo 4G. And taller too.

I see it more like asking the opinions of people you consider knowledgeable on the subject. You'd be a fool to not ask people who are very familiar with something when considering whether to buy it or not....especially when it's such a relatively pricey gadget. Take it as a compliment that someone (may) respect your opinion enough on the subject to take your advice to heart.
We are a community here. I doubt any of us actually give a crap of another approves of one another in a social context, especially when starting a thread like this (so long as it isn't obviously trollbait).

For the life of me i don't know why you won't take this into the correct forum...at this point you are trolling and trying to cause a flame war..go back to the Samsung website and dry hump a pic of the gs2 ..i mean its specs are unprecedented..a 1.2 ghz dual core...whoaa.. a gig of RAM? I've been thinking about this for a while now. I'm keeping my g2x until the new nexus phones come out, and then sticking to pure nexus phones from Google. I'm sick of waiting for venders and carriers to work together for releases, and I'm sick of crap that carriers add to phones which is useless and slows them down. I normally root my phone and install CM on it anyway, but with the g2x even that isn't a 100% working solution anymore.
By the way, I read that Google is releasing up to 5 different nexus phones from different vendors around Thanksgiving this year. I'd wait for that!

No, in fact if you search up my previous post, my G2X, is one of the few that has zero flaws.
I'm jumping ship because the Sensation has more Dev support. (Really a lot of dev) They recently got official CM9.

When the new Nexus phones come out, I'll watch for a price break on the Galaxy Nexus and probably pick one up.

I searched for 10 seconds and found both of these. It's pointless to make a thread like this, especially with the OP's statement, does he want a cookie for wanting a sensation? Lastly OP my interest is not to stock what you have said in other threads, if you make a new thread make it worthwhile to read for the community, not something useless and informative.
Hey XDA I just had Chipotle, and added way too much Cholula to it.

If you're gonna jump ship, just do it.
The community for the G2x has been flawless, but I have seen the future, and I left it for the GS II. Man, they're a live one over there. Everyone's awesome and welcoming; a bit impatient at times when they ask for ROM updates (lol smh), but generally nice people.
Now all the devs here are a capable bunch, and they've managed to do what LG/T-Mobile/Nvidia couldn't do. I've said this time and time again. But without those 3 giving this phone even half of the effort, we suffer ultimately. In Driver support, Camera support, ICS support, annoying bugs going unfixed. The devs have to pick up all the slack, and that sucks. I left because of the circumstances that those 3 have put us in, and I'd say it's a fair assessment.
But if you're gonna jump ship, I suggest you don't do it for whoever gets ICS first. There's no way I would have gone to the Sensation, too many hoops to jump through, S-OFF, bootloader, etc. That phone's pretty thick too, not enough internal memory either (Nice camera though). Jump when you decide your time here has come to an end, when you have felt like you can enjoy this phone no longer, or if you feel you just need an upgrade/better spec'd phone. I believe those are valid reasons, as well as explanations that don't tick off the rest of the community. x) Cheers on your future smartphone endeavors!

ya i was on the same boat when the phone came out but meh there is a lot of things that i love about this brick lol but mind you the galaxy S3 is coming out so i might go out and buy one of those this summer

Really? G2X feels better in the hand? I got to try it out at the store, been looking to get my hands on a sensation off craigslist for a good price, probably trade for my GS2.
I'm sentimental with my devices, also, have lots of back NANDROIDS of the G2X and need to get my data out of them before selling it. Actually thats the only reason I still hang on to my G2X. Too lazy to move my stuff out of it. I can, just don't feel like it.

I have just graduated high school last June and still waiting for a job call. As I do not have anything to do to kill time besides going to the gym and flashing my Infuse a lot, I would just like to do a poll of who here has their Infuse rooted and who does not?
Just a basic question. (Although the purpose of XDA is for development hence a strong feeling that majority are rooted)
So... are you rooted or running stock unrooted?

BTW, Yes i am rooted running Mind of MAC ROM (look at my sig)

I kinda figured this, but I was probably waiting for a dramatic upset Wouldn't it be interesting if at least 30-40% here on XDA weren't rooted. Of course, it wouldn't happen-- but still.

i got one more year...and the mom is making me look for a job...i was looking for one before and through the beginning of summer but didn't have any luck...then again i never applied to any fast food/restaurants cause i really don't wanna work at a fast food joint lol...although my brother got a call from target for an interview...he never even applied there!!! Ive been applying there for the past year every 90 days or whenever it is that they throw out your application
as for the poll...dont have an infuse...yet...but my vivid is not only rooted, but it is also s-off...and i colored my capacitive button LEDs with a green sharpie cause i was bored and going through flashing withdraws lol...so its rooted, s-off with green capacitive buttons (in case your wondering s-off=security off...you can flash roms and stuff with out s-off but its harder...s-off pretty much allows you to flash kernels through recovery...had to short out my phone to get s-off, but it was worth it...)
as for the infuse i shall soon have, i believe its coming pre-rooted...if not then i shall root it immediately

See, I had a job last year when I was in high school at a Chinese buffet... ended up quiting because of the high-demand and anal bosses...
BUT I just got a call today from a car wash, and I am starting on August 13th.
This means that maybe around Christmas time, I may be able to purchase a note (2nd generation if it comes out). If this happens, I'm still keeping my infuse due to its awesome Wolfson DAC. Although, donating it wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Been working since I was 14 at a Hobbyshop. And I got laid off last summer due to the store closing because of the owners. I just recently (less than a month ago) got a job at McD. And now saving up for future things (car, college, clothes etc...
Gonna be getting a new phone hopefully by the holidays

lol, that's a possibility, but i just don't think id have the guts to actually be a marine...although i will say that in lacrosse we would have marine trainers or whatever come out and condition us 2-3 times a week (my coach is a marine)...although it was only an hour, i was always dead after and can only imagine how much harder it was for those actually becoming marines...who would do those exercises plus more, and do them at more of an extreme for a longer period of time then us..gotta say though, we were the most conditioned team in the high school league...too bad varsity only wanted to start fights at games though (i think they won 3 games...)...but JV did good, we won league
Anyways...respect goes out to you bigjoe and all other marines and any other military force for that matter, you guys not only go through intense training, but you also fight for our country-and that's not something the average joe could do...a bigjoe on the other hand

that's the plan after high school gonna go to my local CC and get my general ed done then gonna transfer out to a different college and major in computer sciences...particular software development ...when im 18 im gonna try getting a job at Fry's electronics, cause then i can get a discount on all my computer hardware and build my dream computer...stuffs gonna be intense...
lol...how did we go from rooted vs stock to me talking about my whole life plan so far lol

Stay on track buddy I agree with Joe, were I work (McD) there are a lot of people with great potiential who decided not to care much about school, and its sad to see there future remains and ends at a fast food place like that. I remembered my first night they trained me on the grill, I walked out that night from my first shift only in thinking that I was definitely going to graduate high school and go to college (scraping grease of a grill and flipping burgers for min. wage on a full time job is just pain) On the other hand that's were my future is barley just to about to begin, hopefully get a degree in Engineering (maybe in Production/Design) and succeed in life.....

as for the poll...dont have an infuse...yet...but my vivid is not only rooted, but it is also s-off...and i colored my capacitive button LEDs with a green sharpie cause i was bored and going through flashing withdraws lol...so its rooted, s-off with green capacitive buttons (in case your wondering s-off=security off...you can flash roms and stuff with out s-off but its harder...s-off pretty much allows you to flash kernels through recovery...had to short out my phone to get s-off, but it was worth it...)
as for the infuse i shall soon have, i believe its coming pre-rooted...if not then i shall root it immediately

I as well hated the idea working at fast food joints (coming from retail) but this was my only choice i applied everywhere else and nothing. Really hard getting a job these days. When I showed up to my interview for the job I have right now, there were atleast 20 other people in front of me waiting (teenagers, & adults) to be interviewed luckily I got the help from one of my dads best friend who helped me out getting a position.
Keep on trying don't give up. Its the same situation everywhere else, just bad economy.

New AT&T Atrix 2 User.

Hi! I just bought yesterday an Unlocked Atrix 2 from AT&T, it came with Android 2.3.6 (55.13.25.MB865,ATT.en.US) Pure stock, not rooted, brand new.. My question is.. What should i know about this device? Is it Getting an official OTA of ICS soon? I don't want to root it yet, i'd like to receive official ICS Update via OTA, then root and play with it. I'm in argentina, and sometime while surfing the web with 4G i lose network connection and reconnects itself after a few secs, someone has experienced that? The Screen is a little yellowish all over white colours, normal too or what? Thanks A2 Users!

Hi. And, welcome to the community..
It's a good device, but it has a locked bootloader which prevents us from installing truly custom roms or custom kernels. But, as you will notice, the guys around here can do some pretty cool stuff with what limited capabilities we've got. (The unlock you are referring to is the subsidy unlock for different carriers, I assume).
Yes, depending on your definition of soon, the official ICS is coming soon-ish (my guess is august for the at&t us builds). And simply rooting, should have no impact on receiving or installing the official ota update - it's the other stuff you do with root that screws up the install of the ota - but we have ways to fix up your system for the ota..
Never been to Argentina, but I have experienced bad data connections depending where I'm at.
The yellowish color is not normal. At least mine doesn't look yellow. And since yours came stock 2.3.6 (most come 2.3.5 out of the box), and it's sim is unlocked, so it may be refurbished or slightly used.. not sure what causes the yellow.. do you have a screen guard that discolors it?

I've never noticed a "yellow" tint, but I do have some darkish blotches in the center of where my keyboard would appear that may be from mashing the screen too hard while angry texting crazy girls...

Wow! So many replies in just Minutes.. Thanks a lot, i feel confortable asking here now. First of all its Sim Unlocked, you can use it with any carrier. About "Yellowish" tint all over, is hard to tell when it is noticeable, for example, when you surf in Google Play, while loads the screen of a selected app, you can see the background the yellowish tint is a bit noticeable, also in Wifi settings and others, but colors in photos and everything is perfectly normal.. Probably i'm a bit daltonic or paranoid. I'm happy to know that our phone will have ICS in August, i think the wait will worth, i saw Droid Razr running ICS and, OMG so smooth, so perfect..! The only i complain about is about the stock browser, wich provides a laggy experience -.- but overall performance is good! I like the build quality, its a very good looking phone, looks very professional and feels like a premium phone. Not like the cheap plastics Samsung GS2 i own, it feels like a toy compared to A2! I'm uploading photos of the phone right now.

I agree, it feels like a good quality piece of hardware. Oh, and August was just my guess, the official word from Moto is Quarter 3, which goes until like late September I think.. so who actually knows..
As for browsers, yup, the stock GB browser is horrible in my opinion also.. I'm sticking with Boat Browser - keeps getting updates and getting better. Also, Firefox is available for GB, and for ICS, you can get Chrome (but it's still pretty bare bones - plus the stock ics browser uses chrome parts I believe..). Just try a few out, and you'll find a nice replacement browser...

First off.. WELCOME! The A2 is a great phone and I hope you're happy with it
We have plenty of great devs here that make amazing things happen for this phone.
ALSO if you really don't like the yellowish tint try this:

I seen one of these in another forum you were a mod in Woody. Its still going semi strong mostly a couple of regulars talking back and forth.

How many of you know the Nexus 4 is available currently in play store. I was able to get my order in. Ill still be poking around but only poking as Im passing this phone to my daughter. Im actually glad jb is progressing. However ultrgen was the bees knees for me until slim b3 was released.

I like the Nexus for a cheap unlocked phone that works on Tmo-Wind networks, but hate that it has no SD card slot and only 16GB max. I don't have a ton of stuff on my SD card but I did have to go from a 16 to 32GB card a while ago just to keep enough music and other things I like on my phone on there. Right now if I buy one and activate it on Wind, I'd get 50$ credit, but meh. lol. Sad thing is this phone will get updates for a while probably while all the other phones don't.
I hate seeing some of the new phones Sammy is releasing, 800mhz processor but JB on it. Can't give us JB.
Part of the problem is our carriers, they are limited in the number of phones they buy for their bands, which limits us too., Is sammy going to release a JB update for the S2 that has 10's of millions of phones, or our phone, that probably is maybe a million or less, so we suffer and S2 users get the goods as well as the new crappy music player galaxy 800mhz phones.
Rain sucks.
Ultragen rocks, it's still my DD and was Remics before that. I like the touchwiz interface and launcher. It's smooth. I don't want 6000 dumb transition effects like loops and twirls and spinny things, just one transition that works well and looks good and I find touchwiz does that.

I ended up with the S3 for that reason. I get horrible signal at work, on top of not being allowed to have a camera phone, so it stays in my pocket. The horrible signal problem makes it so all of my music has to be on my sdcard. I didn't want to have to fight between music and apps with the Nexus 4.

Ill be getting a chromebook soon so I plan on using that 100gb of google cloud service for music that way I can Keep more with me. The way I look at it you create playlists then sync the playlist to your device. I remember seeing a tasker profile that can do this so I will have to find it.

The limitations and bs they claimed was just to get people to upgrade. I think ST has a lg phone that is running 4.1 and a 800mhz processor. Its not a super phone but it does what most people want which is facebook email and those type of things.

Personally I like adw just for the customization. And it is minor things like only needing four dock icons. There are a couple cool themes but most of the time Im rocking the stock adw theme with some modified icons. I dont know what some of these developers where thinking with the design of their app icon.

Cool. Glad to see everyone enjoying the thread. My next phone will be a Samsung 3.2ghz octi-core phone/tablet/wallet that charges off of body heat. It will have an 25mp camera and 64GB of internal memory with an external SD capable of 128MB. I hear it will be out Spring of 2014. Can't wait. lol

I recently switched over to the Nexus 4 and am loving it. The phone comes with free 50gb of cloud service, and they sent me an offer to give 50gb to a friend. You can store all of you music on there and just download when needed. I know it's nice to have everything on you sd card but you are never going to listen to that much music at once. Also I assume you have backups of all your music on your pc or elsewhere, but if your sd card crashes or explodes or breaks in half all your files are gone, a little safer on cloud service. I've never heard of anyone losing their files on a cloud server, not saying that it can't happen.
Anyways 16gb (12.92gb actual) is still a lot of room don't let that be your deterrent from purchasing the Nexus.
