Multitasking Tweak? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Anyone know if its possible to reduce the time for a long press to get multitasking and voice search. I've noticed switching between apps takes a long long press.
Maybe this tweak already exists on some roms?

Try an downloading taskswitcher from the market. Makes it so a single press of the home screen brings up a task switcher. Its very minimal and very fast. Also allows you to end apps by long pressing them. Heres a screenshot.

TaskOS, a powerfull task manager.

VIDEO HERE
NEW COOL VIDEO HERE. Click this link.
Hi there, i just want to have feedback on my TaskOS app.
This application show to the users all the apps he opened and never closed. ( leave applications with HOME key and it will appear. Leave with back key and won't appear.)
The user can scroll between all these apps and launch one by clicking on it or kill it by dragging to the top ( like Palm PRE)
That's a beta, but all the mains features are there.
What do you think of it.
PS: i am looking for ROM developpers that would be able to launch it by long click on the "home" button or trackball/other.
Features
* customizable icon size
* wave effect ( i think i'll remove it)
* confirm killing app or not
* notification to launch easily ( looking for people who know ho to integrate this with long press on home button - trackball)
* more to come...
Will come
* theming the bar
* ignore apps by moving icon to the bottom
Screenshots:
Looks nice but why doesn't it show as many apps as say taskiller?
I'm using a Nexus One btw
For what version of Android is this? Can I run this on my 1.5 device with Sense?

I said it here: this application only kills ACTIVE app's. I don't want to kill other apps.

This version is Android 2.1 on my hero. But yes of course, you can use it on a 1,5 device with sense!
nice thought, i like it!
I'm running 1.6 stock and unfortunately it doesn't show up when
i leave any app with home-key, but i find the idea of holding
home-key pressed in order to show up really nice!
...and yeah, i stopped using *press-here-to-kill-all-tasks*
I kinda like it
some suggestions:
- gestures (like from down to up to open it)
- Lock the slide up feature while scrolling
- Maybe previews of apps (would require lots of mem somehow)?
- click anywhere other than the switcher to close the switcher
- don't display apps twice
BTW: what about making an app launcher like the wave launcher from webOS? shouldnt be too hard and very useful
I like the idea of a Pre app launcher, but I want to say something related to memory may bog things down a little bit.

alright. Nevermind the thumbnails by gestures i mean like a system one so you drag up from the bottom of the screen to open taskOS but i guess that isn't possible unfortunately... maybe use a longpress menu to open it? would be great if a different solution was possible to open the switcher up
see news here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5404622#post5404622 to launch with Home key, but i guess i won't have answers.
I think Google should allow users to make custom shortcuts by clicking on buttons!
Ignore function does not work on some screen sizes!!!!
I'll have a look thursday! Be patient
Could you possible add a memory counter at like the corner somewhere to show how much free ram we have? Also, any way to make this look/work a bit more like the WebOS cards if possible?
As for resolution I notice you have a Hero, so I take it you made the res for Hero(my Eris has the same res as the Hero)?

This isn't entirely true.
Some apps need to be force killed.
Android takes care of this only when the situation is really dire.
Why waste the valuable RAM?
Let's say you use App "X" once a day, but it's a resource (memory + cpu) hungry app, like Maps and derivatives.
Now, this is an app which will figure in the active list, but some of them like remaining in the background. Have 5 of those, and your system will work at a crawl.
Now try killing that app. You can really feel the difference, especially if you're using 7201A based handsets (that's 528Mhz).
Take a look at com.eolwral.osmonitor.
IMO, the best task manager around. And it's free (as well as ad-free).
why not mail the author and share some ideas?
You do have a innovative approach to task management (ui-wise).
i don't know if anyone has the same problems, but since last update i keep getting force closes when trying to kill an app!
edit: dis- and reenabling kill popup fixed the problem. weird.

Thank for the feedback!
You are the only one people that I heard having this problem... Really strange but i am glad that Taskos work again!
Next time, send me the logcat so i will be able to correct the bug!
Yeah, it would be nice if we could use TaskOS by holding home... The normal Android switcher is so useless.
very nice app ... will be essential if you find a way to use as task switcher (longpress home)
could you maybe add the option to hide statusbar icon?
also kinetic scrolling would be very welcome
Inertia in scrolling: seem to be so hard to implement.... You will have to wait.
Long press home: Developpers don't have access to this! I will investigate with Custom ROM developers. Imagine all apps can acces home button and you press it!
Ability to remove statusbar icon: will be done in next update.
I think that I left a bug in previous update. Nobody told me and i just corrected this evening. Sorry for the inconveniance!

Visual Task Switcher

It feels like a WebOS multi-tasking.solution for android. What do you guys think if it (in the market)?
Im using it with CM6, it launches from longpress of the homekey for me and I really like it a lot
Update: helpful for non CM6 users, longpress for search can now launch VTS.

Regardless of the feeling that this is an astroturfed post, I'll try it since there are three things about WebOS that I wanted to make love to after leaving my Palm device. This covers one such concern.
After approximately fourteen seconds with this app, I can say that if it holds up on resource usage, it will never, ever leave my phone.
Single click brings up my "open" apps.
Double click takes me back to home.
Triple click replicates a unicorn out of my camera lens that burps rainbows and farts lasers.
Its as close to app cards as we will get on Android. Kudos to whoever is behind this.
Checked it out, all is good... only if we can map this to home button LONG press action, to replace the current task switcher.
Good look with finding this app and telling us!!! I think its pretty sweet and works well, the only gripe I have with it, is that on my EVO is kills leap when I hit the home button
Desperately needs the option to set launch button.
-edit
If you use cm6 you can change visual task switcher to replace the default home long press in the settings
Settings > cyanogen mod settings > input settings
Amazing now...
I'm using this with power stripper..amazing
I'm using cm6.
Liking this. Thanks for the tip. Id like a free memory read out on the screen since that is about the only reason I use a task killer. But is pretty sweet for switching between tasks.

You can't use it with a custom launcher, try deleting any other launcher then it might forward correctly. Or if your on a sense rom just ban/remove sense
~edit~ I just did that and it works fine. You have to have only VTS and the launcher you want to use active.

Hitting the home button twice reverts home to ADW, I use LP.. I think the information is correct.
I really like the app but needs to mature a little more before I could use it to replace long-press-home, which I use all the time
Did you even try what I suggested?

I tried that before you suggested it. VTS needs more development, it just doesn't integrate with a custom setup very well yet.
I love this app so far. I even tried to swipe it off the screen (Used to have a pre)

Fast Home Long Press App?

Is there any app that allows you to open the Home Long Press via a single tap on the home button? (i.e. not a long press)
Why would you want that?? then you'd have to long press home to goto your homescreen and that would be annoying this kind of app would also require root to
(i think)
Edit: Congrats for being 3 posts away from 2000

And who said a long press was the only method of getting back home?
And yes, I'm rooted and running CM6.
I guess nothing like this exists?
I use a program called MoreRecent, which shows the last 15 opened apps, it's accessed with a long press on search, or you can place a shortcut to it on the home screen.
Not exactly what you want, but maybe helpful for you.
I can't post links, so search here on XDA for MoreRecent

Yep, I've seen that. If you check out the MoreRecent thread, you'll notice I've posted many times in that thread. It was actually my idea
But anyway, looking for a way to specifically do this with tapping the home button a single time.

If you have programming experience (or know someone who has) you could write a very simple home replacement app that would for a single tap launch whatever program you want, then on a double tap, launch your home screen, a bit like the app Quickdesk. That way you'll be able to intercept a single tap on the home button and still use the launcher of your choice with double tap.

It depend on the ROM you are running, most stock Android will popup the task manager when pressing Home for few seconds, HomeFlip should preserve this behavior by default.
I'll check CM9 (this is what you are running right ?) internals to see if there is a way to hijack this, but keep in mind that I try to keep HomeFlip as non-invasive as possible, so any features that require additional permissions or dirty tricks is a no go for me, Respect peoples phone is my policy
Thanks.

I know the long-press home action, and of course, I don't like it . I have a cheap and weak phone (HTC explorer), so your animation seem a bit laggy . I have a dedicated button for recent apps, but it take about 1-1.5 second to load . So go to home and tap app icon is even faster than using the recent apps menu .
Looking for the update . By the way, the apk size is tiny, but cached process need 10MB, is that normal ?

You can disable the animation from settings (context menu).
HomeFlip to not not cache anything by itself, but it is possible that the OS itself cache information (i.e. icons), I'll have a look.
Anyway, Android is getting good at managing memory itself, the times where you had to manually kill tasks are hopefully over.
Thanks.

Your Use for Edge Sense

As XDA users, most of us won't have the typical usage for certain features and apps as the general public. What are some useful tasks that you found for Edge Sense?
I'll start with saying that I changed it from the Camera shortcut since there are about three more ways to launch the camera right of the bat (Power Button, App Icon, and double-swipe down with the screen off).
Currently, I use the short squeeze or WhatsApp, and long for screenshots. What about you?
I'll throw that out there, too...I'm looking for an app that brings up a floating app drawer, or some selection if my favorite apps. Yes, I know that I can just go to the home screen, but if I have a good feature, why not make the most out of it?
I use short for screenshots and Long for Alexa
Short for camera and long for chrome
Short for camera and long for voice recording (just in case).
Sort squeeze for notification shade, long squeeze for camera.
Short camera... Long press... Deezer (music streaming app)
I use short for the flashlight and long for a screenshot. Both I use very frequently and omfg edge sense is nice. Especially cause this phone is larger then what I am use to.
