Ghost VM Icon Sprint Solved (Sense Roms Only) - EVO 4G Android Development

So. I accidentally stumbled upon this solution. After many read posts and research i stumbled upon the post of the integration of google voice and sprint. I decided to try it out and magically after changing my google voice number to my own the vm icon disappeared and hasn't been back for hours so far!
Follow these steps:
1) The first step is to create a Google Voice account.
2) In step 1 of account creation, click “I want to use my mobile number.”
3) Enter your Sprint mobile phone number and click the “Check for available options” button.
4) Click on “Enable Google Voice on your Sprint phone” and complete the remaining steps of account setup.
5) Follow the rest of the prompts given o screen to disable your current google voice number (if you have one)
6) I can't exactly remember but you have to sign out of your google voice app and sign back in to complete the changes
7) In your call settings under voicemail service google voice will no longer be listed it will say my carrier BUT all your voicemail operations will be handled by google voice!

But some of us want to use our Google Voice number too. I didnt have this issue on the stock rom or on modded 2.2 roms, but it continues to happen on the leaked 2.3 builds.
I just moved from Miami to VA and want to keep my FL number and use my VA Google Voice number.

You should be able to switch it back after integrating. I'm not exactly sure if you can but when you go into your voice settings in google voice you have the option to disable your google voice number and use the previous number.

Visual Voicemail button and Google Voice

First off, I thought Google apps would be easier to find on the Android market... my god was it not. Second, I notice this phone has a visual voicemail feature... but then you can go and setup google voice. I was able to enable Visual Voicemail, set google voice as my primary voicemail... but now when I click my voicemail tab under Phone its just a white screen...
Do i actually have to use the Google Voice app? I thought Android would have more voice integration than this...
any assistance on making Google Voice my primary voicemail?

Visual VM app will only work with Tmobile VM, so in order for you to use Google Voice VM you need to use google voice app and if you like you can use one of the google voice widgets but you can not use Visual vm in sense with google voice
hope this helps
What are you ranting about!
Go to the market, search for "google", pick any app that is from "google inc", slide down & click on "view more applications". How hard is that!
As for VVM, first and foremost, it's a carrier-side service. Go rant there.

LMAO nap time?
You don't need VVM with GV. The voice app gives you transcribed VM and highlights the words as you play it. I put a shortcut to GV on my homescreen and viola.
Just change your vm number to your googlevoice number and u will be good to go

Working google voice (no voice, just texting)

Posting here for anyone who camps Roe's threads (like me) lol
(pre cursor- uninstall google voice first, I didn't have it installed but some people did)
Steps I took
on my evo fully installed voice (switched roms recently didn't have it installed)
used Titanium to back up the app
Copied the 3 files to my titanium folder on the g tab
Restored the app
Lauched google voice. Got to where it said configure inbox then went back back back back to exit
inbox popped right up.
YMMV
Thanks for the confirmation!!! Looks like I finally have a serious reason to root my N1, I feel so behind the times.
Are you saying that should I do this, I'd be able to text from my GTab?
If so, please elaborate. I've never used Google Voice, but will if I can text from my tab. That'd be crazy awesome.
(Got a HTC Hero CDMA, rooted, stock ROM. GTab is running TnT 2.2, if any of that matters.)
Google Voice update
After yesterdays (12/8/10) update to GV. The entire app almost works now on the G-Tab. You can even "skip" the voicemail setup and get it working about 90%...just no VOIP calling yet
Ok. I'll download that from the market. Do I sign up online with my existing cell number?
How did you skip the VM setup... I couldn't skip this after the update...
thx
***nevermind --- I re-read the 1st post... :]
Works just as described. Texting works like a charm. Thanks.
No real work is required to get this up and running. Just install Google Voice via the marketplace and run it. I already had a Google Voice account, and when prompted I just told the setup program that the G-Tablet was my home phone or something. No problem texting or listening to voice mail.
Does anybody have voice calling on the G-Tab through SIP?

How to get your Google Contacts sync'ed to the head unit?

From reading on here we cannot get Google's Contacts app to work - but other apps work - only I can't find a way to get them to sync the Google Contacts.
I've found mtcdialer.apk - which will redirect attempts to dial thru Bluetooth and I'd like to be able to have my actual contacts available.
Has anyone solved this?
I paired it with my Bluetooth phone, opened the Bluetooth app on the HU. When I pressed the button too search contacts (on the HU) the phone asked for permission to share contacts to HU.
All works
What you're talking about is sync'ing the phone's contacts via bluetooth to the Bluetooth calling app. Very different.
I solved the problem myself.
Thanks to MTCDialer.apk, ( https://github.com/f1xpl/MtcDialer/releases ) you can use a Google Dialer/Contacts app on the Head Unit. I wanted to do this in order to put my favorite contacts in an icon on the launcher so I could call with one tap. The problem was getting my contacts from my phone to the Contacts app on the HU.
What I did was use Contacts Backup and Restore, ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smarttools.mycontactsbackup ) to export my phone's contacts as a .VCF file and emailed it to myself from my phone.
On the HU, I downloaded the .VCF to /download/ and used True Contacts, ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.psencik.com.android.contacts ) and imported the .VCF into it. Then I was able to select my favorite contacts and used the app to put their icon on the home screen/launcher.
Based on other recommendations it is possible that Contacts+ might be better but I haven't tried it yet.

Thank you
Is Google Contacts not working an issue with ALL android head units or just a few? I've had the same issue on two different Erisin head units?
Great thread. Only add you must use Google contact sync versión 4.x
If you use any more recent versión It Will not add "contacts" option to Google account
Hi, i have the AE0373B 8.0 PX5 headunit and i am unable to run mtcdialer. The app displays an error "Mtcdialer has stopped". Anyone else had this experience or could help? I would love to get this working.
I'll try to get all the apks I installed, but I even managed to get voice enabled on one of my modems.
I Have found that some Huawei E3131 Works great in 3G 25/5Mbit I have installed Google contacts+dial NON Nexus, and few others, Messages Works to receive SMS, And on PC even it works with voice I am Missing some Service apk to make that work also and One Dialer can try to call voice which end no service available.
EDIT: Added List of apps that work mostly, I yet need to figure out what Phone Services and Carrier Services to install but SMS receiving and sending works.
Only Stupid Viber do not work on HU and that is making me crazy. Hope this helps someone.
It is the steps to sync contacts via Google account.
Step 1. On your old Android phone, add a Google account.
Please go to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Add Account" > select "Google" > go with the prompts to sign in your Gmail account. If you don't have an account yet, you need to create one at first.
Step 2. Sync Android contacts to Gmail account.
Please go to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Google" > turn on "Sync Contacts" and other files you wanted on your old Android phone.
Step 3. Sync the contacts to the new Android phone.
You need to add a Google account on your new Android phone. Then go to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Google" > select "Contacts" from the list of the Google backups > click "Sync Now" to transfer contacts from your old Android to the new one now.

Of course it will work, all he's doing is creating a google account on one device and using the same account on another device so both device have the same data once they are sync'ed with the account. Then google assistant can use the contacts from this account. It would probably work better if you only have 1 google account on the device.

I have my google account on my head-unit and the same one as my phone. Its just that there is no contact on the head-unit even when its synced. It just won't allow contacts on the head-unit because it has its own bluetooth app so wants you to use that app for calls instead.
Do you have Google Contacts installed on your HU? Once you have that on you need to add Contact Sync as it00x32 linked. Then you have to convince the HU to use a different dialer, follow the steps Martinsamp listed here.

Integrate Goole Voice voicemail into Google Dialer?

On my older device I was able to use an older version go Google Voice (0.4.7.10) and it would allow me to integrate the voicemail directly into the Google Dialer. It would add the Voicemail tab and allow me to check my VM directly from there. However, this does not seem to be working any longer. The voicemail tab will no longer display. I am still us Goole Voice 0.4.7.10 (the last version that allowed this integration) and my Google Dialer version is 29.0.234661434. Any help is appreciated....
If I downgrade to Google Dialer v26, I gain get the voicemail tab. However, anything above that (starting with v27) and the google voice voicemail integration no longer works.... they must of changed/removed something starting with v27

Why is Play Store Installed Google Phone (dialer) app not recognized as an available dialer, despite all permissions granted, set as default dialer?

Hello,
I've tried to fix this problem for months - it makes using my phone as a phone very painful. I've reached out to Google via the app's feedback, have posted multiple Play Store reviews, have posted in the Google Community Support forum but no one will even acknowledge my posts. DRIVING ME INSANE.
I am trying to use the latest Google "Phone" Android dialer app (version 63.0.364655934 - though every single version has always had this same issue). The app was installed via the Play Store. All permissions have been granted. The app is set as the default dialer as well. I can open the app and dial a number, and incoming calls are working fine. The problem I'm experiencing: if I attempt to make a phone call from any other app, the Google "Phone" app is not listed as an installed dialer in the Android call/dialer intent received list of available dialer options. The default (Samsung) dialer is listed, as well as others (such as Skype for example), but not the blue Google "Phone" app. If I am texting someone in the Google "Messages" app and decide I would like to call that contact, when I touch the call icon the "Complete Using" Android dialer selection menu pops up (the one where you can choose which app you would like to use to complete the action, and whether you want to "Always" use that app or "Just Once") but the Google "Phone" app is not an available option, despite having all permissions granted and being set as the default dialer. This is extremely annoying and drives me crazy all day long and makes it very difficult to use my phone. If I ask Google Assistant to call someone, GA attempts to do so and that dialer selection menu pops up and nothing happens/GA cannot place the call because the Google Phone app is not listed as an option. I cannot make calls from the Google "Contacts" app. I cannot make calls whenever I select a phone number from a website in Google Chrome. It is extremely frustrating. I have sent feedback via the app multiple times, have written multiple reviews on the Google Play store and was told by the developer that my phone needed to have a good signal in order to be able to make calls and that I should submit feedback via the app, despite having clearly stated in my review that I had already submitted feedback multiple times. My phone has perfect signal - that has nothing to do with anything...
I believe it is the result of poor coding in the app's Android manifest / intent settings, and/or perhaps it could be that something conflicts with Samsung's proprietary Android software on my phone. My phone is one of the most common phones out there, and was one of the top selling phones last year in the United States: Samsung Galaxy A10e, on Verizon Wireless. Device software up to date, not rooted (because it's not possible for US Samsung devices to be rooted, unfortunately).
When I look at the App's enabled permissions and services, one permission seems to be disabled, and three services are listed as disabled, despite all permissions being granted in the Phone app's app/permission settings in the main Android Settings menu. Screenshots with more details attached.
Please help - thank you!

I'm on Verizon. It's so weird/dumb/annoying! I can't even ask Google Assistant to make a call, or open a contact in the Google Contacts app and then make a call, or click on a contact in the Google Messages app and tap the call icon. All I get is the pop-up menu that shows the disabled/not default Samsung dialer app (green) and Skype Lite, despite all permissions being granted and the Google Phone app being set as the default dialer app. I've tried the beta version as well and it's the same.
I'm constantly having to copy and paste or physically write down numbers because the stupid phone won't function as a phone and Google Support is non-existent and makes me want to chop my head off.

Unfortunately there's no way to uninstall any updates in the Google phone app, only uninstall the entire Google phone app altogether. Nor can I uninstall any updates for the built-in Samsung dialer app and I can't even disable the app as an app. :-(
I honestly think it's either poor coding on Google's behalf, or Samsung's locked-down / proprietary / Touchwiz crap being all finicky and annoying, or a combination of both. It's so dumb that I can't even use the Google Contacts app to dial a phone number or have Google Assistant place a phone call... with the Google dialer app... lol...
I really need to be able to make damn phone calls without having to copy and paste the number every ****inggggy time. This is absurd. Can someone please help or advise? There's no such thing as Google ****ing support. Their forums are pointless.
