Posting here for anyone who camps Roe's threads (like me) lol
(pre cursor- uninstall google voice first, I didn't have it installed but some people did)
Steps I took
on my evo fully installed voice (switched roms recently didn't have it installed)
used Titanium to back up the app
Copied the 3 files to my titanium folder on the g tab
Restored the app
Lauched google voice. Got to where it said configure inbox then went back back back back to exit
inbox popped right up.
YMMV
Thanks for the confirmation!!! Looks like I finally have a serious reason to root my N1, I feel so behind the times.
Are you saying that should I do this, I'd be able to text from my GTab?
If so, please elaborate. I've never used Google Voice, but will if I can text from my tab. That'd be crazy awesome.
(Got a HTC Hero CDMA, rooted, stock ROM. GTab is running TnT 2.2, if any of that matters.)
Google Voice update
After yesterdays (12/8/10) update to GV. The entire app almost works now on the G-Tab. You can even "skip" the voicemail setup and get it working about 90%...just no VOIP calling yet
Ok. I'll download that from the market. Do I sign up online with my existing cell number?
How did you skip the VM setup... I couldn't skip this after the update...
thx
***nevermind --- I re-read the 1st post... :]
Works just as described. Texting works like a charm. Thanks.
No real work is required to get this up and running. Just install Google Voice via the marketplace and run it. I already had a Google Voice account, and when prompted I just told the setup program that the G-Tablet was my home phone or something. No problem texting or listening to voice mail.
Does anybody have voice calling on the G-Tab through SIP?

Can anyone out there make a google voice app so you can call through your google voice number or the actual phone number. I had a android phone and that was the best app available? Any GV users out there?

do i need an invite or can someone post a link
hmmm
the idialer doesn't quite work how i thought. need something closer to the google android app. anyone out there have any answers?
There is also another program that works along with iDialer called iContacts. Though I don't really remember what the android version is like. I guess it's time to boot XAndriod again on the Fuze to see what it looks like.

This is not a google made program either. The program is made by a person on this board I believe. No you do not need an invite to get it try searching got it and you'll find it. If you have a google account just follow the instructions and set it up.
GV Dialer
Any luck on a google voice app
Browser version is available...
I've used Google Voice through the web browser. It's not "pretty" but it works.

I used to use syncsms and while it was good it sometimes would just not work, and it utilized dropbox which I wasn't a fan of. This is awesome and uses google chat or email. All I did was create a new gmail just for this purpose and keep google talk logged into it on my tablet. Just wanted to share the wealth and all props goes to Koush who also developed RomManager, man that guy is awesome.
i love this app with the Chrome extension, but found that it was cluttering up my gchat contact list with people's phone numbers as contacts. To fix I set the app to only send emails and filter them in Gmail. I like the idea of setting up a separate email address to handle that issue.
I take it you have to side load on the TF? Market shows incompatible for TF but good for my N1
You install the app on your phone, then i use google talk to receive the messages on the transformer. The app just forwards the messages

Ah OK, got it thanks.
I use textab for this feature. Works very well.
I dont like using Bluetooth, and this way they don't need to be near eachother to work in case I forget my phone
TextTab does work well when I was using the beta, only thing I wish it did was enable upon boot. I always forget to enable it after phone or tablet boot up.
I use SynSMS except like mentioned it's not always reliable.
I like this DeskSMS so far. I can get rid of Mighty Text and SyncSMS and replace with one app.
Also with this as with SyncSMS, I can leave my phone home and on while out of the country and still get my SMS.
I use the google voice app on my transformer. It is the same as on my ATRIX. I can text and read and listen to voicemails.

I'm not quite sure how to use desksms....I downloaded it to my phone...then I put in my google account....had check boxed the gmail and google chat boxes....but nothing happens when I send an sms...I did the "test sms" from the app and it came to my phone....but that was it...nothing on the tablet...
what SMS client to I install to my tablet?
So the app can send sms, eh - that somehow worries me.
I just use google talk on my tablet to get the messages and you can respond through gtalk also

Nothing is install on the tablet, it forward your sms to Google Talk.
It work for me at first but now it does not forward amy sms to my google talk.
It does sync with my Chrome extension
mine still works, I also have the google talk desktop program and get it through there too
So if i use google voice there's no reason to use this right?
nope..not really
edit: as long as you sideload google voice onto the tablet

Yeah I have a seperate email address, but the thing is i have to log out of my main account to use desksms which seems annoying as everything google is the phone's email and i have nothing but email setup. how did you setup your filters?

Hangouts doesn't show online/offline/busy statuses, and I use Google Talk for chatting, so Hangouts is fairly useless to me. I rooted, used Titanium Backup to uninstall Hangouts, and installed the attached APK. I imagine if you allow it to update, you'll end up with Hangouts again, so don't allow it to update.

You do realise that this will stop working shortly. They were only keeping the old talk api's onl;inme for a few months. Hangouts does show who is online and offline btw. The icon is greyd out if offline, not if online, simples.

Yes but it isn't sorted, it should be sorted by online/offline of friends who you've actually chatted with THEN everyone else. Hangouts doesn't do that and is inferior hence why most of us are hanging on to gtalk. I'll probably just switch full time to trillian if they don't sort out the sorting issue on Hangouts.

Ok, get your point, though it's not really a big issue. You do realise that trillian will stop working the same time as G talk does as they will close of the protocol it uses.

Thanks for the heads up, I was unaware of that. I'll continue using it until it stops working, I'm sure others prefer it as well.

I was also disappointed about not seeing the status when I switched to Hangouts. Apparently, so were many people and Google definitely got the message. It looks like the new Hangouts brought back (or is bringing back) the feature, though I haven't checked it out yet.

By the way, there are very recent reports (within the last day) of a problem using the old Google Talk. Supposedly, it has been resolved, but the issue was basically that it may have been sending messages to the wrong recipient. (Yup, that's a bad one.)
So, "...it appears to largely affect Google Talk users who have not yet upgraded to Google’s new Hangouts service."
http://rootzwiki.com/news/google-talk-comes-back-vengeance-misdirects-hangouts-messages/
So i created a backup of hangouts, then uninstalled through titanium back-up and then installed your APK however it wouldn't show up in my app drawer anymore. Is there a reason for that?
If you have a Google voice number like me, you are probably sad that all the third party apps that enabled VoIP using Google voice on android have stopped working. Like grooveip and talkatone.
Well here is a good news.. You can use VoIP calls from your android device. You need to do two things
1) Enable hangouts instead on talk in gmail.
2) Download opera browser (any browser that can fake a desktop UA might work. I use opera)
Now, change the user agent to desktop in opera browser and call using hangouts in gmail like you usually do on a PC and it works!!!
If you already knew this, good for you. I didn't and I just found out so I am sharing an option till Google releases full hangouts Google voice integration.
Enjoy!
EDIT: if you are logged in and opera is running in the background, you can even receive calls to your Google voice number!!!

Trying this now. Amazing if this works.
Thanks, this works with Opera on my tablet. It doesn't work in Chrome, even with the "request desktop site" option checked. But I expected that, since I tried it a while ago. Not sure if Firefox would work, but I'll use Opera for this. Navigating the hangouts interface is clumsy to say the least, but it's nice to have the option.
Thanks for the tip, but as expected, Google has totally hosed the Voice app. You can no longer make calls over Wifi on android so its totally useless for that. The other functions of the app are clunky and difficult. Way to flush a good idea Google.

facebook messanger has voip.
does this still work?
i used to use it like two weeks ago on a Nexus 7 (2012), with Opera.
But then I broke my tablet and got a new Nexus 7 (2013).
Now it's asking me to download the hangouts plugin.
I gave up on phone and using Google Voice voip as my number.
This is really frustrating when I'm not in front of my PC.
MO + app still works from play store
