First id like to say that i searched and found an app called Rescan media. However it doesn't work well with the g2x. All i want is to turn on my phone from a reboot and be able to listen to my music or take a picture without waiting a few minutes for media scan to finish every time. Is there a program that disables the media scan on boot and then can be enabled to scan at the users whim? fyi, im using the rooted version of the app and it doesnt stop media scan. it's still up on the status bar and wont let me listen to music or take a picture until finished.
any ideas welcome, thanks guys
Help, if anyone has found an answer.

What does the error say? It seems like this information might help...
its says "Were having trouble creating this smart dj mix. in settings, make sure the connect with zune option is turned on, and connect your phone to your pc" i have done both of these.
Going back to the old ZuneHD
Make sure you have enough music on your phone and that you've listen to enought music. Thats was the fix with the Zune HD should work on Windows Phone

There are two different error messages, one is his "Cannot create this Smart DJ..." and the other one says "We don't have enough music to create this smart DJ playlist..."
I assume since he is getting the first, more generic message something else is wrong, and its not due to not having enough music, otherwise I assume it would have given him the 2nd error message.
Unfortunately I have not been able to replicate the first error message so I don't know what's wrong. The Zune HD was picky when it came to what songs it would work for, and I don't know if the case is the same for Windows Phone. You may to try these things if you haven't already:
1) Try a bunch of different songs/artists. Does it happen to all of them? And when you get the error, is it always the same one?
2) Try a popular, more recognized artist. You may also want to try playing an artist to see if any of the background images change to reflect that artist. If it does not, its a sign that Zune does not properly recognize the track or that your tags are wrong/incomplete. This is the top cause of Smart DJ and of background images not working as they should.
3) If you don't have a Zune Pass, then Zune will not grab content from the Marketplace even if you have the option to do so on.
4) In order for Smart DJ to work properly, you need multiple tracks from the same artist/album so that Zune can properly probe those tracks for information to pull similar artists/tracks.
5) Your region may be affecting what you can or cannot use on your phone. Certain features are restricted by region (Local Scout, Smart DJ, Podcasts, etc.). So if you aren't in a region that is supported by the feature, it won't work. Normally with Windows Phone, I've noticed that the feature doesn't appear at all if it isn't supported, so technically, I would assume that if you are in a region that doesn't support Smart DJ, you should not be seeing the ability to use Smart DJ. But then again, this is beta, and mistakes happen.
6) It's beta. It's not working properly for you. You may have to start from scratch, resync your phone, or some other drastic measures. It's not guaranteed to work, and frankly, I'm surprised my phone works as wonderfully as it should.
That's all I can think of thus far.
Great Post anyway to give you props for that?
thank you, it started working yesterday for some reason. maybe it took time to connect to zune services or something
Hi,
Just got the info from my children that mp3 decoding on their phones is not working (music player hangs).
Both have a Galaxy 3 updated with standard Android 2.2 (subversion is slightly different bcause of different phone customzations by the phone provider).
I tried different music players (stock, google music, winamp) but all causes the same effect: phone starts vibrating and the app crashes...
Of course, no troubles with any other media (video, youtube...).
Given all music apps are impacted, I suspect a problem in a system library.
I've searched in the forums, but found no mentions about my problem (strange, it is on two phones, so should be pretty common).
I'd like to stay with the stock rom, so I'd prefer either installing an app self contained (not using sytem libraries for decoding), or somehow fixing the system libraries w/o having to install a new rom.
I'd like to know if I'm the only one in this position, and if you have suggestions for a fix.
Thanks
You must do a hard reset of your phone.
Just type in *2767*3855# and your phone will restart.
Keep in mind that you will lose your data on your phone like: unsaved phone numbers, installed apps, mp3 (all are in your phone internal memory witch will get erased), those stored on you micro sd flash will not suffer any changes, so save your apps(or download them again), mp3,photos on your micro sd.
If this helps you please give me a thanks.
Hard reset done on one of the two phones, but problem is still there: mp3 player crashes (I've not yet re-installed 3rd party players, but bug is exactly the same as before the reset: mp3 starts playing few seconds, then phone vibrates and music hangs).
Rom on the two phones is JP4.
Also to note an other strange behavior: the phone shows a warning message when launching apps accessing the network (market, browser) to ask to activate mobile data connection... even when the phone is connected through wifi. This was not the case before the froyo update.
I'm not finding all this much normal...
Any further suggestion (I understand last resource is anyway installing Kyrillos rom)?
Thanks
Try the Miui player works perfect for me on kyrillos rom 9.2

I see. There is something you could do, and that is flashing the Rom again. Use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063940 to get the latest rom and flashing tools and here is the flashing tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880, i can bet that this will fix your problem. Or you can go to a local samsung service for repair, you do have warranty?

Thanks!
On other forums I found the problem is not uncommon.
Songbird is not exceptional, but does not use the buggy system library and works like a charm.
I've removed the stock app icon just to avoid running it accidentally...
It's a pity not being able to share songs with google music (app is using the buggy lib)
may b sumthin wrong wid sd. backup ur sd data & format it.. via phone.. then restore backed uo data.. & then try if they give fcs anymore.. :/

I'm sorry to ask this question as the answer is probably obvious to most (but not to me!)
Most of my MP3s vary a lot in volume so I discovered a program called MP3Gain to alter the playback levels so that they are more uniform.
The only problem is that the Zune Software does not seem to recognise that the MP3 files have been altered in any way and therefore refuses to update my Lumia with the new, MP3Gained files!
Is there any quick way to just update all the songs on my phone with the edited files automatically or do I have to delete all the songs and upload them manually?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!
Hmm... did MP3Gain not update the files' Modified timestamp? If it didn't, that may be why Zune doesn't realize they've changed. If it did, and Zune still doesn't pick up on that... weird.
One sure way is to delete the music from the phone, then re-sync. This actually shouldn't take much (if any) longer than just re-syncing all the files would anyhow.
I should have said that initially!
MP3 Gain does modify the time/ datestamp but Zune still ignores it anyway!
That's weird... I've seen Zune automatically update files when I connect my phone even though I tweaked something (like my rating of them) on the PC when the phone was disconnected. It may not notice third-party changes, though... silly of it.
You could also try just re-syncing the files (select all your music files in Zune, then drag+drop them onto the phone icon). Zune may then notice the changes and send the update.
Thanks, I'll give that a try!
Doesn't work!
Even when I change the rating in Zune, it doesn't sync to the phone.
I tried giving a song a rating in Explorer and that also doesn't make Zune sync.
I'm not really sure what else to do now...
What's wrong with just deleting the songs from the phone (very easy to do in Zune) and then re-syncing them? I meant it when I said this wouldn't take any longer. You'd have to overwrite every song file anyhow, which will take just as long.
The problem is that I have 30gb of songs on my pc and only 10gb on the phone, so I have to remember exactly which songs I have on the phone from the collection on the pc!
Is there some way that the phone can just restore all the music on the phone in one go?
Every time I've deleted music in the Zune app on the phone and then connected to the pc, the music stays deleted and isn't restored from the pc.
The strange thing is that the Zune software recognises that the mp3s have been changed as it says that "media files updated". It just doesn't update them on the phone.
This is what I did: create a playlist "Music on Phone" (can be done from the phone if I remember correctly) and whenever you add, or delete music in this playlist, it'll get automatically synced. Should you decide to delete all music for whatever reason, it's a one-click-sync to get it all back then..
Regards..
Thanks ombre33, that sounds like exactly what I'm after!
I'll give it a go and see if it works for me.

Guys I have problem, after reboot my phone can not scan music, photo, and video on external card/MMC. I've tried a few apps but no result, I also tried flashing TTF again with flashtool but same... No result.....:crying:
Someone does anyone have problems like me???
Please help me.....:crying:
Well finally I can see someone with the same "problem" as me.
I had this problem, and still have, from time to time, works like this:
1. Turn phone on.
2. Give it 5 minutes, open Album/Walkman, etc : "No files" (or whatever it says)
3. Reboot.
4. Give it like 10 minutes : works.
I think it's because I have 1000+ pics and some music that it takes time? Otherwise the Media Scanner is messed up in this build (JB), probably. I still have no clue on how to solve this.
Problem Media Scanner Xperia J Jelly Bean.
Thank you, I hope this works well.... I was really dizzy when after I turn off the phone and restart files such as music, photo and video does not exist...... Is there the possibility of also because I wear a regular MMC???
Hej, in Poweramp, sdcard access gets reset after every reboot, meaning i need to allow it again and then the app will scan for music, which takes a long time.. Never seen this before, so i'm guessing this is specific to realme rom? Please confirm (test it), thanks
