[Q] Fast portable Wi-fi hotspot through Internet-pass-through? - General Questions and Answers

I am wondering if it is possible to hook up my phone via USB-cable to
my computer to gain access through my broadband and then via
portable wi-fi make my phone into a wi-fi AP with the same speed as
that I get from my computer instead of using my phones 3G connection
wich is much slower than my computer..
Is there any apps out there that can help me with this? And, if it is
possible, do I need to root?
My phone is a HTC Incredible S, not rooted (yet..)

I'm not actually sure. but if you root i think pda.net works for that.

Thanks alot, I tried PDAnet and it worked fine, even with unrooted phone!

[Q] us version root availble yet?

Well i have my transformer and i wanted to be able to connect it to my phone but my phone is only provifig ad hoc conection. I was wondering if thereis a way around this. I was told that rooting the device might makeit easier. I woudnt mind rooting the device(if possible since it is a us version)but if there is another way for me to get wifi access through my phone i will take it.
I have a touch pro 2
On sprint that is running enery rom
Thanks guys
rooting wont help it recognize ad-hoc, what you can do is do a bluetooth tether instead of wifi.

Thanks....is there an app on how to do this? Im used to just wifi tether and ive never blueooth tether before. Ive looked at my bt setting and everytime i get them to pair the only option i have is for my phone to use the transformer as an internet access which is the total oposite of what i want to do.
yes, how do you do Bluetooth Tether?
I have my SGS running Wireless Tether Root, on BT tether mode. But the Asus Transformer can't see the PAN tether service after I pair the phone and tablet.

Does your phone have wifi hotspot capability? If so root it and turn it into a wifi rounter. Then you just connect to the phone as a wifi device. That's what I do. Not on the TF yet but with netbooks, ipads and an archos gen 8 tablet.

Oops thats a new Winmo phone isnt it? I can do it but you'll be charged for it.

[Q] USB tethering with Nexus S 4G

Dear all,
I just got the Nexus S 4G phone from Sprint, and already updated it to 2.3.5 due to the weak signal issue. I noticed that USB tethering is not working since the beginning (2.3.4). I went through Setting, Wireless & network setting, Tethering and portable hotspot, and USB tethering, then enble it. The computer showed that it was connected with the phone, just no internet connection. Could anyone help? Thanks a lot
The 2.3.5 update blocked free tethering.

Bigtoysrock,
Thank you very much for your help. I still have two questions.
1) is it the 2.3.5 problem only, or USB tethering is never working with Andriod? I am new to Android, and I didn't get the USB tethering working with 2.3.4 either.
2) I know if I root it, I will get the mobile hot spot working with 3G only. Will the root also give me the USB tethering?
Thanks a lot,
As far as I know 2.3.4 worked and not sure on the second question as I don't use the native app for tethering. I do know however that pdanet works for usb tethering. When you root it comes with the one click root package to give you the correct drivers. I would try it for you but I am not on the stock rom.

If you unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery Peter Alfonso created a flashable zip the fixes native tethering in 2.3.5
I tested it with the wireless native app not the wired but should work for both

Thank you, Bigtoysrock and Jackslim. I will root it with Peter's method. I will report whether it works with USB tethering. People reported that they have wireless tethering working. However, nobody talks about USB tething,
I remember there's a way to usb tether your phone without the need of rooting using proxydroid
I did this when my EVO was replaced with a new one that was unrootable at the time
You can find proxydroid in the market for a free app and use their wiki for details on getting your computer setup

Jackslim, thank you. That post has a straight-forward tutorial.

[Q] about internet connection

Hi so mainly im asking about a way to use the android wifi connection on my pc through usb like my phone is connected to a wifi and my pc have no wifi card so i use the usb to connect the phone with the pc and then i have connection so any ideas?

I think the tethering should work unless your service company charges for tethering
update: No it doesn't work. only runs network signal not wireless. Maybe there should be a way to do that.

This is impossible since the tethering uses 3g internet connection rather than wi-fi, since it is designed for situations when there is no wi-fi connection but there is cellular connection, and you want to browse the internet with your PC. good luck, i maybe wrong!

Just out of curiosity, what features does FoxFi provide that the stock HTC app doesn't?
Thanks.

It doesnt let you use a proxy, hiding the tether from T-mobile. I'm also having the same issue.

Which model of the note3 do you have and which firmware version?
Try this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371345
He works on my N7000, I haven't tested it on my N9005. Don't forget to connect you to a wifi before using this (you should not restart your phone). Hope it will work
I've to root my phone.. Is there any way apart from rooting. I cant use wifi at office. I have to use USB connection from pc internet to my note 3

if i had understand you
you can use hotspot and connecting to your internet phone data
I believe he wants to use his home/office Internet in the note without connecting to a wifi hot spot

You got one that connects directly to your phone, not via OTG or so?
HERE is some talk about USB/Ethernet cables for Note Pro 12.2 (which is like Note 3 but with bigger screen??) They have got it work on some adapters.
