[Q] i want to make a rom?

ok guys imma try and make a rom for g2x with sense3.0, so i need alittle help, where do i start? and its there a thread i can read on that will help me alittle?
and if anyone will let me use their patches and stuff i guess we can both take credit? but i (and who ever helps me out) will be the first to make sencce for g2x

sounds like he wants to try and learn how to develop rom's, with no experience in development. but he's wanting to build a rom for the g2x that incorporates sense3.0? that's what i interpreted.
So someone needs to go to the book store,library, or Google and start reading on Linux, java (more app based from what i read), and other books on code that's used in mobile development
correct me if I'm wrong anywhere in this response.

That's exactly what I am talking about... How many times have you written something like that after someone responds to your posts? I get that you want to do a sense rom for the g2x... It also seems like you want to use others work(and give them credit, of course). Hop on to amazon or head to your local bookstore, there are whole sections about android development...

Expert developers are EXTREMELY challenged to port over platforms from other brands. To think that your going to do it with no experience is never gonna happen. Start easy, download CM source code, try to modify things, and maybe in a few months you can put something out for us. If making a rom was that easy, we would all do it.

get a book and read.
start with learning JAVA (this is if you have no programming experience)
once your familiar with JAVA and feel comfortable reading JAVA code and writting in JAVA.
then go get a book on ANDROID Development. I found a great book to learn about android development called " Hello Android", by the first 15 pages i had already made a somewhat complete Sudoku app, not out of interest but as this was the lesson in the book i was on.
No one can help you until you want to help your self, not trying to be a dbag but sounds like your wanting someone to walk you through step by step and through previous experience trying to verbally or explain to someone through text on to do something as complex as coding with them having little or no knowledge on the fundamentals and basics is/will be very difficult and frustrating for you and the person trying to guide you.
ps... might not hurt if you learn how to read/write/understand linux as android is based ontop of linux from my understanding

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only android phone capable of taking a screenshot out-of-the-box is the LG G2x/Optimus2x. Every other android phone required a screenshot application such as drocap, shootme, etc.

That's correct, I use Shootme, you have to be rooted to use it. I believe MIUI has something like it built in to the ROM.

Great point! That whole "Donate To Me towards getting a nexus prime or htc holiday" is WRONG WRONG WRONG. Get rid of it.

it's how you went about the whole thing. you didn't test it. it didn't work. you accepted donations. when it didn't work you argued with people defending your lack of knowledge. you asked devs to fix it for you. and in the end you promised ports from the gs2 and a sense port.
wanting to learn is one thing. I'm in the same boat there but I test things before they get posted. I resolve my own issues. I read and pull things apart to learn about what's inside.
maybe I didn't need to bring it up but if yoy don't see something wrong with that then I'm sorry. I don't know what to tell you.

good point. there are a few here starting out. I made explicitly sure it was clear simply honey is not my work and I won't accept donations till I move on to another project as I don't want to take from the creators. that thread is about dead now sinse I have little time and an unresolved issue or 2. actually I may wait till I get that "recognized developer" tag before I put up a donations link.
I didn't make that Rom I "ported" it. I may "make" a basic Rom soon. but time is an issue.

The att sgs2 can do it out of the box. Hold home then quickly press power.

I believe that's to be used with Kies + 3rd party software like wondershare mobilego. You plug the phone in via USB and load up the software, everything you see on the phone shows on the screen and you can screenshot it with the program.

Cyanogenmod 6 on GS4G?

I know we can't have CM7 on out phones because Samsung has not released the source code for Gingerbread but what about Froyo source code? if it has been released could any one port CM6?
I added a poll to see what every one thinks.

If you go to https://opensource.samsung.com/ and search for T959V, you can download 2 files named SGH-T959V_Opensource.zip and SGH-T959V_Opensource_Update1_Kernel.7z, I don't know anything about coding, but would this be the source code that is needed to port Cyanogenmod?

I downloaded the files to check but I don't know anything about coding so I don't know how to tell.

I'm assuming people would rather have Gingerbread with touchwiz than Froyo pure Google awesomeness since all the ROMs I see are touchwiz, I personally would rather have a pure Google experience. If enough people ask for it would devs port CM6?

I'd check it out if it was available....cm6 would be good compared to our current cm0....

i know the feeling really lol like the 35 + pms i get some of them from the same people two or 3 times about hey can i have miui when u gong to be done with miui really it gets old quick..... we appreate that u love our work but this is a hobby not a job.. not trying to take away from what our getitng at just stateing i knw how u feel and can empathize with what you are saying 10000 percent...
im sure i could finish it up and make it for the most part as stable as a frankenstined build goes but updates? no not going to happen period not without a proper build and sorry no i love u all but im not going to port every update that comes out for it by hand...
so as kryon said why settle.... really why settle for an inferior cm 6 when u can have 7.1 and why settle for a inferor miui when once we get source we can do it right.......

I'm not complaining, I'm really thankful for all the great roms out there and realize most people don't have any right to say what roms you should make since most people just ask and don't donate, but it is my personal preference to have vanilla over touchwiz, I will be patient and wait, I never said there was anything wrong with the roms I'm using, and again I thank all the devs for spending the time and effort on making phones better than they already are.

As is probably on all the forums there is no most/best/awesomemest etc. Its all subjective on what a person likes or dislikes does or doesn't do. I can say black ice, but the next person says AR, then the next says something else until you essentially have all the roms listed from the Dev section.

You don't even have to read a lot of posts, you read maybe one or two pages at the most and you'll find out, for instance absolution(the only Rom I use on my inspire) is extremely stable for me and is perfect for my needs but it may not be the same for you it may not work for you, you may prefer sense, so really its all personal preference. Threads like these get closed all the time because they're unnecessary since most of the roms in this forumare plenty stable except the ones that say they are betas and have things that don't work. There is that a good enough answer for you? Because that's exactly what that picture says. A picture is worth a thousand words.

I guess maybe you guys have more going on here with your roms then the epic touch community has atm.. there are probably 3 or four roms that ppl would agree on being the more stable and bug free roms....that may not be the case here, but like I said im out on vacation and was just hoping for a way to find something to fix my nieces phone before I head out home tomorrow. Either way I looks I'll just have do some searching of my own when I get back from the beach....best regards and sorry for being that guy to post a subjective question

that is defenitely better...and like i said its not for me ....the girls phone gets lockec up daiy and is just all messed up...im just looking to give her a daily driver thats hassle free thats all....thanks i will llok at the info on the absolution rom

Thanks,I think she'll be happier just to have a phone that she doesnt need to pull the battery out of on a regular basis....as long as she can call and text shes good to go...l

It does that quite well and looks good doing it (I recommend going into phone options and you'll be able to turn on the t9 dialer to come up with names first or numbers first

[MOD] CM9 Camera fix

This does not work, I have tried it many many times and no matter what it won't focus. I got it to the point where it says it focuses but it does not. No further discussion.

I don't know what problem you are referring to - I can focus my camera fine - just touch the screen in the area I want to focus and the camera focuses - looks great - am I missing something here? is there some other kind of focusing problem?

Don't take this the wrong way. I don't want to say anything bad about someone's work, but until we know what 'it' is, this thread is of no use. If you were to make a thread with a fix and details in it in the first place, less trolling would occur. I sometimes do have this problem, many others have too, including Google. Google has acknowledged this and fixed it in 4.0.4 along with other things. Team Douche (Cyanogemmod) are waiting for 4.0.4 to add more features to cm like theme chooser and customizations.

Google has acknowledged this and fixed it in 4.0.4 along with other things. Team Douche (Cyanogemmod) are waiting for 4.0.4 to add more features to cm like theme chooser and customizations.

I understand. And yea I'll wait. What I did was take the apk from Clean GB rom, compare the two, and I changed stuff accordingly to that. It works, but if the problem still persists in 4.0.4 then I'll post the mod. Oh and taking the apk wasn't all I did. I'm in school and I hacked their website blocking crap, I don't have the time to type the two paragraphs of what I did.

I would really like to know what you did as well.
I think the only reason anyone acted weird about it was that you kinda left us hangin earlier. You know, "I have a fix!" oh cool *click*.... "haha but you have to wait!"

Oh ok I see. Well now I'm getting the idea that it isn't actually focusing... I themed it as well so if you guys want my themed version let me know. But I'll put my hand 3 inches away, it'll say its focusing but its still rather blurry.
So I can either post what I currently have, or you guys can wait for me to figure out why it was broken to begin with and wait for me to 100% fix it, or go the safe way and wait for "team douche" to release 4.0.4
Its up to you guys. I probably shouldn't have posted this until I knew for a fact I could get it up in the same day, or the next day. I'll try my best to hop on my pc and upload it but my dads complaining about how ridiculously priced it is for me to run my computer, so if it isn't today it'll be Sunday. I can try doing it all from my phone tomorrow but chances of that are low.
I'll keep you all updated. Sorry for the troubles. My suggestion is to wait for 4.0.4 but I will upload mine if you want

22ghz isn't cheap . No they actually aren't. He doesn't wanna say it but its because my step mom sits on the couch 10 hours a day with the tv on then goes in her room for bed and watches another 4. THAT'S why the bill is so high. When I stream stuff and leave my computer on its only 2 dollars an hour.
