Hey guys I have the CoreDroid non Gingerbread rom, and noticed that I practically need to have the top of the phone touching my head in order for it to keep the screen off. So if I tilt the phone any which way I will end up either hanging up or pressing any number of buttons. Is there an app or setting I can change to increase the sensitivity of the proximity sensor? I noticed I did not have this problem with the stock rom. Thanks guys.

I was told by HTC that the proximity sensor was a hardware issue..hence the reason for my replacement - I didn't look into it really..
So there is a fix for it using an app? What if it doesn't work period - is it a hardware issue?

For anybody following this thread who also found that the above link is dead, this one may help you. It's a proximity adjuster app, so you can use it to set which levels you want to have the screen react at.

YESSS it's HERE!!!!
All credits to exidler!!!! Thanx man!!
I saw this question somewhere else, but i just could'nt find it. So i thought let's start the idea again...
The idea is to have the proximity sens enabled in the wm6.5 lockscreen! Why? To disable the screen and hard buttons! That way if your HD2 is in your pocket, the screen won't go on if u press hard buttons on accident... see.
This would also be a nice feature if you get an incoming call, it happens to me very often, when i have my HD2 in my jeans and want to pick up a call, i often press the end call when pulling out the HD2 out of the pocket.... very frustrating!!!
Is there someone out there who is able to create an app/ tweak like this???
Thread you mentioned was open by me, but no solution for now. Btw proximity sensor isn't a bad idea, I can code in VB .net, but I don't know how use the sensor with the code! I hope there will be a more skilled programmer here!
The solution for now was called S2U2
yeah... any skilled programmer/ developer over here???
Yep, that's a great idea. Shame I can't do it myself

not that easy mate.. how about the lcd going on all the time in your pocket...
htc just needs to add button lock in there rom.
So you can only poweron poweroff the screen using the power button.

I agree, but only when nothing cover the proximity sensor, otherwise the phone will switch on and off in your pocket a lot of time!!
BTW, tha't incredible!!! Why HTC doesn't implement this basic function in their roms?? Really, I don't know!

all of then have the same problem, they can not lock the answer key, so in case you have and incall and the phone is on your pocket you can accidentally pick up the call.
pocketshild developer has tall me that it's waiting for HTC to release a hotfix.

BTW, if anyone finds a solution please post it here

Good to hear...
But why are they waiting??? is it possible that HTC knows about this prob?? Would be nice if HTC developed this theirselves... prox sensor to switch off the LCD and hard buttons in incall AND in Lockscreen!!!
Or come on XDA Developers!!! One of u guys or galls have the power!!!
I certainly don't like the idea of using a full-blown locker like Pocket Shield or S2U2 for this purpose, so hopefully somebody will come up with a way to trap those darned buttons that can be used outside of those programs. Unfortunately I haven't been able to figure out why standard hooks fail...
hi
for me the real question is, why the htc dialer does have a slider but it does not lock the answer and end call keys when reciving a call ?
if htc developers didn't think about it why are they going to fix it ? I don't think we will get a hotfix ...
anyway if anyone find a solution .. please post
thanks
I don't think HTC is going to "fix" it, it's not a bug, it's a design [in]decision. It's been the case with all their phones since the times when dinosaurs ruled the Earth.

Mod, please delete this thread after i get a solution from developers.
My defy's touchscreen gets pressed automatically not every time but very frequently. I thought its a hardware problem but googling has suggested me that many others have this problem so it can be a software problem. I m new to defy so don't know if this problem has got any solution. I m on indian firmware 2.2.2
Sorry for asking this in the developement thread. I posted it here to bring the attention of the developers as many developers hardly go through the general section. I thought it can help others too.
*devs please dont mind and help me.

Simply, if I wake up the screen of my Froyo 2.2 Defy, sometimes it seems that the touchscreen sense touches without to touch it. That's a problem with touch buttons.

Yes, the issue is like the users have water drops on screen or wet fingers but in this case the display is dry.
this is a hardware problem. not software.

isn't it strange for a water resistant handset.
I think i m getting sum hint why this is happening. Tell me if there is any way to lower the touchscreen sensor. Motorola says there is no way to do it currently.
Try disable the in-pocket detection and also disable overclock too. Uninstall multitouch too if you have it running.

Thanx bro. But i m facing the above situation in office only where the AC runs on very lower temperature around 20°
I have flashed cm7 yesterday. Lets see if i face the problen again when i go to my office.
If anybody can tell me how to lower the touch sensitivity, i will b very thankful to him.

Lowering touch sensitivity won't do the job. I remembered my last xperia x10mini pro had this issue and it was caused by my phone pouch strong magnetic that messed up the screen touch senses. Put it away from strong magnet solved my case.

yep! The problem is dirt on touchscreen... usually from greasy fingers or water drops!
I solved this problem by using matte screen protector!

Motorolla strongly reccomends to not use any screen protector. However i will still try this.
The thing that is worrying me is only it happens in my office and nowhere else. As soon as it comes in lower temperature (in office), it starts happening.
Hi, I recently purchased a Nexus S off eBay that was listed as broken because of the odd call behavior a broken proximity sensor causes. I figured it would be an easy fix, but I am having no luck at all finding any method of disabling the proximity sensor for the Nexus S. Many HTC phones apparently have this issue more commonly, and there are many threads of their proximity sensor issues, but none of the fixes offered there are applicable to the Nexus S. I've searched the forum, google, and the Cyanogenmod settings throughly looking for any sort of disable option, but have found nothing. Any help answering this question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Nobody? I've poked around looking for the driver directory to remove it, but it doesn't appear to be in a similar location to HTC phones.

I mostly use MIUI nowadays, so I'm not too sure about any other ROMs, but if you're willing to use it, MIUI has a setting for disabling proximity sensor for calls (under Settings>Programs>Call>Answer Settings)

Thanks for the reply. I'm sad to see Cyanogenmod doesn't have this setting... I've read this elsewhere but really don't feel like switching to MIUI. Looks like I might not have much of a choice if I want to actually use my phone as a phone, though . Thanks again.
CM7 has the ability to disable the sensor as well

Look in the Xposed and/or Franco kernel thread for a similar issue like yours, there may be a fix posted. Last resort is to flash a stock image in fastboot and that will probably fix your problem.

When asking for assistance it's best to provide as much information as possible. As it stands I have no idea what you're referring to, and I think it's safe to assume most people won't either.

Hi,
But what is "this proximity sensor( during call) bug" you are referring? Honestly I have no idea what you are talking about, I never had noticed a bug or anything else with the proximity sensor during call
Like _MetalHead_ said if you want help describe the problem...
Ok fine i will keep that in mind, next time if i post any questions.

For the next time ok, but for now (in this thread here) you can't describe/explain the problem???
There is video on youtube regarding this.i cant post it in here so.
Anywaz the issue is when i m in call,
Steps
1)Call a number
2)Screen goes off.
if i try to make the screen on(to end the all or anything) i have to press 4-5 times power button which also happens by luck to make the screen on.
Also when in call (screen is off),if i try to do something in the status bar.Like if i touch near status bar(in call screen off),when the call ends u can see the status bar was active even if the screen was off.
Hope i m understandable.
i have posted the description of the issue just now .
Historically, this was usually down to a crap screen protector blocking the sensors. OP - are you using an SP?

exactly the same for me!!! (except R33)
Same issue on mine, and I don't use a case or screen protector. It's annoying because I have to enter a passcode to check my voicemail, but the screen stays black when I move the phone away from my head. Putting it on speaker seems to fix the issue, but I don't always want my phone calls broadcast to everyone around me.
Hello
I have a big problem, unfortunately the display screen of my new nexus 5 was crashed over the proximity sensor, so my proximity sensor always on, when I am making calls my screen is off and i can't do any thing even hang up the call , so how can i disable my proximity sensor.
My phone isn't rooted
I don't think you can disable it, not without root anyways. Can you still turn the screen on with the power button?
