I'm wanting something like Prowl for android, so my growl notifications get pushed to my phone.
I was thinking something along the lines of:
Growl gets a notification > send SMS through email to the phone > APP intercepts SMS and pops up the Growl notification as an android notification in the pulldown
Possible?
Tasker (tasker.dinglisch(dot)net/index.html sorry can't post links yet) has the ability to intercept text message I believe. And I know you create many types of custom notifications based on the input. You could make a notification bar message and play a custom sound. Or even trigger application loads, and well, too many other things to list.
You'll have to play around with it a bit first to get the hang of it.
For the PC side you will have to find or write a program that will forward the growl notifications by text to your phone though.

Tried it, that requires the phone to be constantly active and to be on the same wifi network.
Tagging along.

Best i've found is to just set growl send an sms to my phone through my email.
This is something that I will hopefully starting work on shortly, However I will most likely utilise C2DM on android 2.2 (Froyo) though I may add a fall back to use SMS's with the app intercepting them.
Bump!
I'm switching all my notification stuff to Growl for Windows and it's awesome. I was looking for a way to forward them to my Android phone and found this topic. With Froyo now supporting push, I think this is easier to make without the hassle of WiFi, Bluetooth and other non-solutions. Unfortunately, I don't know Java so I can't code this myself, but maybe some other dev is interested in this? I'd gladly donate.
Edit: Hehe, only read the first sentence of the post above me..
When tasker intercepts an SMS, can it delete the sms? That way you get a notification in the status bar without having to delete a text msg.
There is: http://nma.usk.bz . It's just like Prowl, but for the Android.
Right now there is pretty much just the Android client and the public API to send notifications.

Hi uskr,
So does that work in the same way? You just fill out the details in Growl for Windows and it'll push through notifications to the phone?
If so that's exactly what I want Coming from an iPhone with Prowl to a Galaxy S2, and the Prowl notifications would be sorely missed.
Yes. We actually support both Growl for Windows and for MacOS. It's just like Prowl, but for the Android platform.
Enjoy!
Lovely, thanks Now the long wait for the SGS2 to get here
Check out Notifo, its currently in beta and not in the market. Google it "notifo for android"
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Notifo was great but it's now been abandoned

Anyone else other than the pay-for "NotifyMyAndroid" that we can use?
Hi,
Looking for an App that will force a loud ringtone (even when on silent) when an email arrives (into Gmail box) from a specific email address (or addresses).
Basically a 'prioiry email' type application. I have had a nosey round the market and various apps seem to offer partial results but nothing concrete.
This is needed for overnight support at work - to make sure that any incidents wake up the on-call guys
in other words it needs to be a pretty stable app
Any thoughts ?
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.hubris.gmailnotifierpro&feature=search_result should be the solution, you'll need to set up a rule in gmail to put the mail in a certain label and then use this app
You might also be able to do something like that with Tasker. I know it is possible to trigger alarms and other changes/activities with SMS messages, so email may be as well.
Thanks Guys .... Ill have a tinker with both
Hi, all
I use Led me know to get the trackpad on my stock G2 to blink fast when i have email. I hate the slow stock blink from gmail (all but useless)
The latest build of gmail 2.3.5 kills the ability for apps like led me know to work (as i'm sure everyone here knows)
I downgraded gmail to 2.3 and led me know is working again, but i'm missing some features i really liked in 2.3.4.1 like the ability to change the "from" address in a reply (i have many domains and email addresses and like to compartmentalize with them when replying), among other things.
I see a few downloads for 2.3.4.1 around, but i was hoping someone had a link to a verified legit one with perhaps an MD5 signature or some such?
Alternately, what are the odds that gmail changes things any time soon so notification programs work again or they add the feature for changing the blink freq. natively? Or that someone makes a notification program that gets around this?
thanks
Eric
I have looked at xda, android central, incredible forums and the play store, but i have not found an app/mod/script that will do what i am looking for. I was wondering if it is possible to clear your notifications the moment you get them. This way, your phone will ring/vibrate when you receive a notification, but that notification won't be on your status bar. I have found apps that do something similar to this for SMS, but i don't use SMS, instead i use textfree because i don't have a texting plan. Even some method to modify (change the icon, notification tag, etc.) the notification when i receive a text from textfree or from facebook messenger or any app will suffice. My device is rooted, so i dont care if the method requires superuser permissions. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could make something that will do this, or could share a method for doing this. Also, if you would like this as well, please post!
I have found a way to do this. you have to go to settings -> applications -> and choose the app. from there, uncheck the box for notifications, and you are good to go.
I'm currently running the latest version of Liquid Smooth, and I love the ability to reply to messages from the MMS in addition to being able to mark messages as read all from the notification shade. Gmail has recently implemented similar features allowing you to archive, mark as read, etc.
Has anyone released an apk for facebook messenger that has this same ability? If not how would I go about trying to modify the apk myself to do this (if no one else is willing) (Even if they are I'd love to learn myself)
