[WANTED] Growl push notifications on android - Android Apps and Games

I'm wanting something like Prowl for android, so my growl notifications get pushed to my phone.
I was thinking something along the lines of:
Growl gets a notification > send SMS through email to the phone > APP intercepts SMS and pops up the Growl notification as an android notification in the pulldown
Possible?

Tasker (tasker.dinglisch(dot)net/index.html sorry can't post links yet) has the ability to intercept text message I believe. And I know you create many types of custom notifications based on the input. You could make a notification bar message and play a custom sound. Or even trigger application loads, and well, too many other things to list.
You'll have to play around with it a bit first to get the hang of it.
For the PC side you will have to find or write a program that will forward the growl notifications by text to your phone though.

Tried it, that requires the phone to be constantly active and to be on the same wifi network.

Best i've found is to just set growl send an sms to my phone through my email.

This is something that I will hopefully starting work on shortly, However I will most likely utilise C2DM on android 2.2 (Froyo) though I may add a fall back to use SMS's with the app intercepting them.

Bump!
I'm switching all my notification stuff to Growl for Windows and it's awesome. I was looking for a way to forward them to my Android phone and found this topic. With Froyo now supporting push, I think this is easier to make without the hassle of WiFi, Bluetooth and other non-solutions. Unfortunately, I don't know Java so I can't code this myself, but maybe some other dev is interested in this? I'd gladly donate.
Edit: Hehe, only read the first sentence of the post above me..

When tasker intercepts an SMS, can it delete the sms? That way you get a notification in the status bar without having to delete a text msg.

There is: http://nma.usk.bz . It's just like Prowl, but for the Android.
Right now there is pretty much just the Android client and the public API to send notifications.

Hi uskr,
So does that work in the same way? You just fill out the details in Growl for Windows and it'll push through notifications to the phone?
If so that's exactly what I want Coming from an iPhone with Prowl to a Galaxy S2, and the Prowl notifications would be sorely missed.

Yes. We actually support both Growl for Windows and for MacOS. It's just like Prowl, but for the Android platform.
Enjoy!

Lovely, thanks Now the long wait for the SGS2 to get here

Check out Notifo, its currently in beta and not in the market. Google it "notifo for android"

Notifo was great but it's now been abandoned

Anyone else other than the pay-for "NotifyMyAndroid" that we can use?

Email popup for gmail? So simple and basic yet doesn't exist

Or does it??
you already get a notification when an email arrives, what more do you want?
an intrusive, iPhone like pop up box like in the 90ies?
Sounds like he does. To each his own. Does Gmail Notifier app do that maybe? Worth checking out, OP.

Guess I get tired of dragging down the notification bar to clear the notification every time I get an email throughout the day. It takes more movements that way and it builds up to annoyance throughout the day. Seems easier to take that away and just have a popup that shows me I have an email and gives the option to close the popup or read/respond.
The option exist for SMS and it works great - figured it'd work great for email too. Surprised it doesn't exist.
I'm glad you asked - I happen to have just the right thing for you
Just search for "Gmail Popup" on the Android Market. There's a free trial version as well which works until the end of this month.
Looking forward to your feedback!

Threads... why?

Ive seen MS chose to combine IM and SMS and to me this looks really messy.
First of all the integration of IM is quite nice but I wish it was kept seperate from SMS conversations since these are to the majority of people still different than IMs and used on different devices or apps. I dont want to continue a conversation automatically on a different app or something. This will be very annoying to the other user.
Certainly if somebody just left his/her pc on or IM on accidently....
They should have added facebook private messaging as well and IM/SMS seperated like it was and just added a chat pivot in the messaging hub.
to me an sms is still something every user has always with him her, like when u send somebody an address or something it should be on their phones and not deliverd trough IM and its annoying having to switch first.
Its kind of short sighted implementation, the idea is good but the reality will be very annoying the way it works now.
you will get a ton of sms like notifications for every IM which can be annoying since on a chat conversation people send much more messages per minute than trough sms. Having to toggle online offline all the time will be a pita
am i the only one who thinks this will be garbage? Instead they should have allowed third party apps like whatsapp to use this on user permission. I hope I can switch off the live messenger. Or just revert back to the original sms screen
I like the idea to have an overview of my messages regardlessly whether they come via SMS, Windows Live or Facebook. Although I agree that getting notifications for all those messages shown on the SMS tile would be kind of overwhelming. But I can imagine Microsoft changes the way the tile works. So it still shows the number of SMS, but in addition to that shows an icon or something when you recieve a chat message from Facebook or Windows Live.
In my opinion.. the best feauture ever, of every OS. Loved that!
I love it as well, and think its nice not to have to go to 4 different places for my facebook, text, wlm & (eventually skype).
While I hope they either have a toggle setting for separate 'rows', or add it soon after Mango for those who really don't like it, I honestly doubt they want to mess it up by having too many places for messages. It fits in pretty perfectly with their vision for the overall UI design imo.
For me,M$ thread is not a new idea,it just copying the messaging app in the HP webos...however HP webos messaging is better, they can download apps that support HP connect and integrate into the messaging app(so,this means they can have more than 1 im clients in 1 messaging app).
Feel so sorry to HP webos, always being copied by others, even the UI design of playbook has been copied

Threading will be the beginning of the end for SMS IMNSHO. Most people still use SMS because it's what they know and are used to.
My wife is a great example, she keeps sending me SMSes while I'm out because that's what she's used to. Even though I've had email (and to some extent IM) on my phones since forever. With a "messaging hub" it takes all the guesswork out of the equation - she'll write the message as she normally does and the phone will decide whether it should deliver via FB, Messenger, Skype or SMS.
Now, if you don't want to continue the conversation if the user has moved to a different device you don't have to. The phone will tell you how the message was sent as well as what services the recipient is currently logged on to.

This just proves my point - you're used to SMS. And again, you can choose whether to send as SMS or IM.
Personally I find this feature great. Two things should be done to make it even better though;
1. Implement a industry-wide protocol so it doesn't matter if you're on a crackberry, iphone or windows phone. Sure, Skype and Messenger goes a long way towards achieving this but there are still people who use smaller IM services only.
2. Allow third-party apps to hook in to the messaging hub - there's a few apps out there today that are not chat apps as such but still implement messaging. Being able to receive (and reply to) these messages from the same place would be great. It would also make it easier for other IM services to integrate with the OS.

But why? Are you less likely to want to read a message coming in thru Messenger than one delivered via SMS? I for one don't care how my messages are delivered, I just want to be notified. It's a bit like having three post boxes outside your house - one for deliveries by DHL only, another for Deutsche Post and a third for everyone else - i.e. pointless
I really like this new feature as well. I am confident that any replies you send to someone will use the same service they used to "text" you, unless you choose to change it. People on non-WP7 phones won't suddenly need to be jumping all over the place.
On the other hand, when other people send you messages from multiple sources (SMS, FB, WLM, etc), you will be able to get all of the messages in one convenient place. I like that.

[APP] SW2 Notifier.Send all of your phone notifications to the watch

Hi!
In the last month we developed an app to send all the notifications that your phone receives to the smartwatch2.
It uses NotificationListener Service instead of Accesibility, so it only works on Android 4.3
Personally, Accesibility permissions are very compromising for an app that only send notifications to the watch, and that's why we started developing an app using the new NotificationListener Service.
The app will grab all the text of the notification (not only the tickerText) and will send it to your phone. You can also mute some applications (i.e. PowerToggles post notifications every few seconds) and set a period of time when no notifications will be sent to your phone (ie. During the night)
The link to the app is:
Mod edit: Removed paid app link
We also have a Free version of the app. In this version you won't get all the text in the notification in your phone, you'll only get tickerText and you cannot set periods of "Do not disturb"
Hope you find it useful.
Hi!
I tried many different apps that bring notifications to the sony smartwatch. I'm currently using a HTC ONE with Sense 5.5/Kitkat 4.4.2 and most of the notification-apps have at least one of the following problems:
-) no smilies in whatsapp notifications
-) the sense mail app groups notifications as soon as there is more than one at a time, so if I get one email and 5min later another one, the notification on the phone and on the watch as well just shows me something like:
sender1
subject1
sender2
subject2
but I can not access the content of the emails... the content is only available as long as there just one new email... I don't know if the notification app can do anything about that, but it's something that bothers me
-) some apps don't allow me to exclude certain services like the htc backup service from notifying me on the watch because there is no dedicated app for that
-) some apps don't allow me to scroll through longer notifications
what about your app?
greetings

AFAIK, SW2 doesn't have Emoji in its charset, so any notification app won't show that emoji characters. We are working in a workaround transforming some emoji in an alternative which can be shown by the watch

Our app will send to the watch all the text contained in the notifications, instead of sending only the abbreviated text which is what some other apps do.
This was one of the motivation behind our app. We wanted to read the whole email in our watch so we developed SW2 Notifier
I cannot tell you about HTC sense mail app, but I can read full mail text in Gmail, Google's mail app and CloudMagic (which are the clients I use). I think that the situation will be the same in HTC sense clients, but I cannot tell you 100% how that will work.

You can select which application notifies you in the watch and which not. You can leave htc backup service out, and it won't send any notification to your watch. So that's a yes, you can filter out any app you want.

If I understood you well, yes you can scroll it long way down in the text of the notification. I.e, If you receive, let's say 10, messages in Hangouts, you can read them all.

I just tried out your app and here's my feedback:
-) it would be great to have an option to define if the notifier should by default enable notifications for a new app-notification or not (as it is now you have to disable each app you don't want to get notifications from and you have to wait until you receive a notification from that app, so for a while you will have to open the settings over and over again to remove an app from the whitelist)
-) unfortunately I have the same problem as with all the other notification apps when I receive two or more notifications about new emails, attached you see two screenshots that show what I mean... as you can see the watch just shows me that I got two emails from "Kamil" and both have the subject "Test2" (if you scroll down on the watch you see just another line telling me that Kamil sent an email with the subject "Test2"), but I can not see the content of the emails (the content is only visible when I have just one email-notification)... this happens with the HTC-mail-client and with the default android-client as well... maybe the notifications-grouping is a sense feature?

Thanks for trying the app and thanks for the feedback!!
We take note about that, we'll add that option to settings, in order to deactivate notifications by default.
About the other comment, did you try Free or Paid version?, In Free version we don't send all text of the notification to the watch only what Android calls "ticker text" which is the text you can read in the notification bar when you receive a notification.
In the PRO version, we send all the text which is contained in the notification (if you swipe down in the notification it will expand and will show extra text, and all that text is what we send to the watch).
I use Google's default mail client (have a nexus) and even though in the notification bar i cannot read whole text, in the watch I can read all the email.
I tried the paid version, it looks like as soon as there is more than one email notification the notification doesn't contain the email text anymore but just the sender and subject of each email

Hi,
I bought the PRO app yesterday, and from a quick test I am very satisfied with it. My biggest problem with others was that they couldn't show extended notifications of Hangouts, and this one does it nicely.
So, great job!

Congrats on the development and thanks for contributing to the SW2 community.
I am experimenting with the Pro version. Interesting the way you need to turn off notifications only after your phone/watch have a notification from that app or service (as opposed to WatchIt where you can do so when you first install WatchIt). I am running 4.3 on my phone, so I reckon I am the right target market.
Does seem to show more content on some notifications, but like others have also reported, if your phone gets a number of emails and notifications at the same time, SW2 Notifier only lists them out and provides the same amount of content in the list as WatchIt. Same is true with Google+.
Its a small $ investment and hopefully encourages people to develop for the platform, and its a nice looking extension. Don't know if it is enough of a difference to get someone who already has WatchIt to switch to SW2 Notifier. Since WatchIt is free I believe, and also works well with 4.3 phones (benefiting from same notification access), I think the SW2 Developers need to do something more to replace WatchIt.
btw, I am still trying to find the perfect notification extension. I use a few (WatchIt, Watchify, SW2 Notifier) to receive email, Gmail, and Google+, and the stock extensions to get Twitter, Facebook, Messaging, Slideshow, RSS, Missed Call, Music Player, Calendar Reminder. Seems the stock extensions that are dedicated to a type of notification still seem to work a bit better than the WatchIts and other broder notification extensions. Fortunately the SW2does not limit the number of extensions (apps) like Pebble does.
A suggestion would be good to select what notifications you want upfront as opposed to case by case as they come in.
Trying the free version. It's splendid so far. One "issue" I have is that I use Hangout and when a person sends me one message, its fine but if they send another afterwards and I didn't check the first, it comes up as 2 messages.
It would be nice if either my phone or watch could read the messages seperately but it doesn't which is a bummer. Other than that, its great!
ok, I've bought pro version, but it is as good as annoying. After 15 minutes of working I can have over 30 messages on my watch. Offcourse I've switched off non neccesary notifications, but for example for deezer I've got triple multipled notifications. Also really annoying are 'ghost notifications'. On my phone i;ve got 0 notifications, but this app shows me some empty notifications without any message. How can I rid of that?
Thanks all for using the app. It started as a personal need for us but it turns out as a useful app for everyone. We are carefuly reading the comments in order to improve the app in future versions.
There are some interesting things we'd like to comment.

In Free version, the text sent to the watch is shorter than the paid version, sorry. In the paid version you should read the whole hangouts notification including messages.

Thanks for the feedback, we've been noticing something similar. Android notification system is a little bit messy. Sometimes, the notification service notifies the app saying, "hey there is a new notification posted", but it is not. Filtering these notifications out without affecting some others is not so easy as it should be. We are working on that in order to provide a better experience.
Hi there, I bought youre PRO version, nice app, IMO only missing one feature, a feature that lets you set a delay between notifications of the same app, eg when a app fires multiple alerts, it would be nice to get only one buzz on your wrist
I agree to some previous post, have an option to have the new notification services disabled by default
So I've been using this app now for about five days. I've pretty much got most of the notification apps for the SW2 all except Watchit were unreliable. I'm glad to report that this app hasn't missed a beat. I've replaced Watchit with this one. I'm really looking forward to the updates! Finally a decent competitor to Watchit!

Does this app currently support or plan to support in the future, features similar to those shown on Android Wear smartwatches. For example being able to select archive on gmail notifications.

[Q] Looking for simple, cross platform messaging

As the title says I'm looking for something small and simple that would allow messaging between Windows 7 desktops, android and ios users. This is for a small business I work at so we can do quick texts within our office and to our mobile users. Right now the only one I could find was Viber, which looks like it could work. Anyone know of any others that could work for us? The simpler the better, have to get ~20 people with varying technical levels (mostly low) to all join and make it work. Thanks for any help!
I would say gmail.. you could use the gmail chat on any pc and also use apps like IM+ to connect the gmail chat on phones or hangouts.. and if you want sms you have google voice.

Not sure if I follow this, is this to replace my Gmail app? Or run alongside it?
And if it is to run alongside it does that mean I will have two apps draining the battery receiving emails rather than one?
great app so far, ive been dying for this very feature.
some comments:
1. if i delete the email that is the only notification, the popup should close.
2. often i cannot delete an email (a toast message tells me so)
3. often my notification tone does not play
other than these 3 annoyances, right now im very happy. keep updating!

How about customization of the buttons? Rather than close, Archive, Delete, Reply might be better?
Looks like a great app, just what I was looking for.
Can you add the option to use the built-in Android accounts, or something like OAuth? Nothing personal, but I'd rather not provide my password to a new app.
Interesting app!
Can you add custom IMAP port support?
Looks nice. Any chance you could add an option to import accounts from K9?
wahoooo.
looks awesome
When clicking the reply button, I get to the account overview of K9 mail where i have to select the account and the open the mail, I wanted to reply to. Any way to fix this?
