Hi people. Im new to forums in general so try to use small words lol.
Can someone explain whats the reason behind overclocking a phone?? Ive underclocked my galaxy s down to 800mhz to save battery and you only notice when i have a few apps running which i never do anyway. Im not dissing anyone who does, id just like to know.
If theres a guide covering it ive missed please post it and ill read up

Unfortunately it is impossible поницить frequency of the processor
Speed increase.
It is useful for applications the require more grunt.
If you want to understand it use psx4droid to play a game at 1.2GHz then at 800MHz

I like everything to be snappy on my phone. Overclocking my desire from 1ghz to 1.25 makes it cruise!
I think the SGS is fast enough and you can play all the games available without lags. So overclocking is just for fun, but in normal use you don't see any difference.
how fast do you want your phone?
I overclock to 1.3ghz on my epic 4g when I use emulators and when I am not far from a charger but other than that I generally scale down to 800mhz

I have the HTC Aria, a little 3.2" Android powerhouse, dev-friendly device severely throttled by it's 600mHz processor. So I overclock it, and this little beast lives up to it's potential. It's like having a superphone in a small size. That's why overclock.

Got my Nexus One @ 1113, but really it's just force of habit. Trying to eke out a little extra performance and all that. Can't say i've noticed any difference though!
Overclocking my ZTE Blade to 729mhz (600mhz stock) can play most of HD games (...Gameloft's especially) without lagging......
I think overclocking is only for gaming purposes ... ♫
▲▼▲Overclocking → The worst battery killer▲▼▲
I have a feeling most phone overclockers are getting a placebo effect.
If you were to hand them a phone and tell them it was 800mhz, they'd feel like it was slower than if you handed the same phone (unchanged) and tell them it was 1.2ghz.
Mobile phone companies configure thier devices for maximum age. However overclockers push limits beyond stock. With right procedures, you get upto 50% speed boost resulting stunning output. Just your cell phone will die early :/. But not that soon. I am using DHD. Overclocked to 1.53ghz ( stock 1024mhz ). Rest, you can reckon.

Anyone have any suggestions for the best kernel that runs 3D games smoothly? Mainly gameloft games
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
If I had to guess, it would be Imoseyon's leanKernel 1.92X.
None. No kernel will speed up the GPU from what it runs stock.
Gameloft games run fine for me. You having problems?
I really dont think Kernel will do anything for gaming. Kernel's just control the cpu speeds and more geared for improving the battery. Anything over 1.4ghz has shown to be pointless on the thunderbolt according to the tests. I haven't had any problem with any of the games even at 1ghz.
I was using 1.92x leankernel except i noticed that some apps wud sort of lag more than my other kernel

i use either drodspeed or adrynalyne. But your best shot is to test around with different kernels and see which runs best on your device
hey guys i just need a little bit help here.
im new to the sensation
and i am running Bulletproof 2.2.1
and its very slow, and i even get a ****ty score on quadrant
and i see there are several kernals out there and i wanted to know witch ones are compatible with sense 3.5 bulletproof
and witch one is the best one. by best i mean faster overclocked
thanks in advance
You can try Faux or Bricked, both are great.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Faux 0.2.3 is out soon with a whole host of new features, I've found that I can't get Faux 1.89Ghz version to work (boot loops) but it may work for you. Due to this I use Bricked kernel and then I can overclock (if I want to) up to 1.72Ghz which seems to be the max for my chip!
Here's a really good kernel 2.6.35.14-Bricked-v 1.2-gpuoc 320-ondmnd [email protected] #6 this is what I use and It's awesome so far I've been useing this kernel for three days and It's lighting fast
I'm on BP also and while quadrant is low with stock, I've found stock kernel to be smooth and stable. Today I did flash bricked 1.4, and while my CF scores and quadrant went up significanty, I had lag on homescreens and games like asphalt 6 hd. I have no idea what the problem was. It could have been my Rom, or the way I flashed bricked kernel because I have read so many positives with using bricked.
I went back to stock kernel and all is smooth again, but with low benchmarking scores....
So I guess I'm saying take benchmark scores with a grain of salt. Although it would be nice to have my cake and it too.

whats you quadrant score? i flashed that kernal but i had problems with 3D and he said he fixed it on the latest version 1.4. and when i used setcpu my phone kept rebooting
I don't remember my quadrant score, but CF bench score was really high with bricked 1.4, above GS2.
Now back to stock kernel my CF bench is back to around 5000. Just under the atrix scores.
(But with stock I have no issues with with gameloft games, no lag in asphalt 6 hd.)
I will probably try again in the near future as it could have been user error on my part.

Fk quadrant scores! It all depends on how ur phone is running

talking about games i havent be able to play them on any rom. some says its not supported and somes dont have the 3d graphics on them
Do the current kernels all have these problems? I would like to know this before I get this phone. And I noticed someone OC'd to 1.8GHz, is this to fix lag or just for fun? Such OC would lead me to question the Sensation's speed quite a bit. Sorry for hijacking the thread, didn't want to make a new one.

I am running CM7 SelfKang9, with Faux's AOSP 0.2 Kenrnel (1.78ghz OC) and undervolt (Thermal Patch). Everything is smooth as butter and battery life is beyond excellent (getting avg 6mA idle). If you're interested in benchmarks, I have gotten as high as a 6499 AnTuTu score, and a 7424 in CF bench. It does run fine at its rated speed of 1.5ghz, I'm just always gunning for that extra speed.
Edit: For Comparison, my friend has an Atrix, using CM 7.1 and Faux with a 1.3 ghz OC, and he was getting slightly slower benches (6000 AnTuTu). Although both phones run great.
I'm using pyramid3d 8.0.1 along with the bricked 1.2 kernel.
Runs perfect. No lags, and no other problems, although quadrant scores are really low. Quadrant really means nothing IMO.

Sense has a nice bug from HTC that affects Quad & other benches negatively, this can be fixed by using AOSP/CM/MIUI, I noticed this on my previous phones. I think HTC has some lingering debugging enabled in Sense.

Thanks for clearing things up for me, I was worried that the phone had speed issues and the OC was to fix that, now I'm not worried with that anymore. Hopefully I order mines next week, but I plan on undervolting & underclocking, just as I did on my MT4G. Although you benches have restored my confidence in the phone.
I have Dragon kernel v1.5.1 and have tried various other kernels such as Trinity and none are giving me the overclock governor, like powersave and on demand. I find these functions very useful and would like them back on my phone. Any help is appreciated!

Tegra doesn't have traditional CPU governors like other chipsets have. That is why they are not available to use, they don't exist for this chipset.
But I've had them before on this same phone on previous installs of Cyanogen...unless I'm crazy. That may be the case here..
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Depending on the kernel, there may be an option present in setcpu. It wont let you change it though. Those governors are just not available on the Tegra2 (as I've read anyway). Sorry for the bad news.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
i haven't seen any rom/kernel with tegra2 has a custom governor, because tegra2 dont use it at all, the chipset adjusts the frequency itself
Hi guys i can someone tell me if can overclock?
Just tell what to do...I want to overclock it to play heavy games like mc4 and nova without much lag
I have the rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629307
-___- It's simple. Download any of apps like those for example; AnyCPU, No-Frills CPU Control and Voltage Control. But the problem is actually in GPU service; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191468 but you must have both root and CWM recovery (CWMR is to back up your firmware and user data).
EDIT: With this GPU tweak and GPU video tweaks in build.prop, Minecraft is pretty smooth.
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA
thanks!!! i already did the gpu tweaks from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2191468
now i'm going to install the apps you said but if i change kernel won't i have better results?
but i don't know what kernel to use...
I hope i was clear i'm portuguese
Of course u need to flash a kernel that supports over clocking. And then use set cpu to tweak

Can you recommend me one ?
For the starter, if you are on the CyanogenMod 10 Jelly Beans port and its derivatives, iodak kernel for one. At full throttle, it roars by at 1.3 GHz but you may try undervolt it a bit (due to CPU heats) - mine's at 1.25 V at 1.3 GHz so go for 1.275 V for better chance.

I'm on stock gingerbread...any advices?
Ah, I see. I will look - even though the development on Gingerbread ROM have slowed down a bit.
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23629242 - even though this kernel is discontinued, it's good. I used this one before I decided to ditch Gingerbread for Jelly Beans (due to better VSync service required by some games but I personally think you will do fine with Gingerbread though. And note this kernel's maximum CPU frequency support - 1.4 GHz.)
