[Q] copy over read only file - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

trying to move over the recovery file into the bin folder and replace the original using Root explorer. i get a can not read-file only. what am i doing wrong. trying to run the beta cwm3. please help

If you are using Root Explorer there is a R/W--R/O toggle. Once you are in the right folder use that button to switch modes. Make sure you switch back to r/o (read only) when you are done.

(Q) Root explorer R/W mount

First time using root explorer and I messed around with the top most directory R/W and R/O mounting option now i don't remember which it was originally set to. Does the R/O and R/W mounting in Root Explorer affect the way android runs and access files? or is it only to set read and write option in Root explorer?
Generally system should be ro

I installed root explorer too but i cant get the system file
I can't recall if root explorer has the option to set the home folder (phone is off, can't see), but it's easy enough, no matter what your home folder is. at the top, if there is a "parent" folder, you will see an unnamed folder, called "..."
that is your place to go "one folder up"
example:
/ is your main folder that contains all other data and folders in your phone.
/system is your system folder.
if you see something like this:
/mnt/sdcard/external_sd
then you are browsing files on your sd card.
let's say you have these folders on your sd card as you browse using root explore:
()...
()adobe
()ebooks
()Titanium
click on the ()... to go up to the next folder. when you reach the main root, you'll see something like this (not exact):
()cache
()data
()mnt
()sys
()system
I can't make it any simpler to find than that. good luck...

Boot animations on Virtuous Affinity?

Can I use a custom boot animation with his ROM? if I can, someone please explain the process I would go through.. I have tried nearly everything , thanks

You've tried putting it in the correct place?

where exactly might that be? I'm sorry I am new to this , I can only view my SD CARD on the file manager ? I would really appreciate it if you could walk me through it , tganks

system\customize\resource\bootanimation.zip It is not on the sd card. Use a file explorer like Root Explorer, Astro File Manager, or ES File Explorer to see and edit files in the system folder.
You're going to need a file manager that has root access. Astro File Manager does not. Root Explorer or ES File Explorer do. Use either of those to put the zip in the directory Agoattamer gave you. You may also need to change the permissions on the file. Not exactly sure if that's necessary or what exactly the permissions should be, but it's something to look at if the animation doesn't work.
I'll be damned. I use Root Explorer myself. By far the best and simplest in my opinion, although it is a paid app. And yes you have to tap on "mount R/W" to alter files in the System folder. I suspect in ES File Explorer (free) you have to do the same. Both require SuperUser.
But I always thought Astro File Manager was able to edit system files. If you do a web search there are so many websites and forum threads stating to use Astro to change permissions and edit system files. Wrong. Although it can see system files it can't mount the system folder as Writeable, only Readable. It does not ask for SuperUser permissions. Guess I will never install that app on a rooted phone.
Thanks sharksfan7 for pointing me straight.
Appreciate it guys!

How to Flash zipped file without custom recovery?

Hi there!
I have U30GT tablet which unfortunely till now didn't have any custom recovery. Some time I want to flash files to the ROM but due to this limitation I need to copy the files manually (easy job) and set the permission (hard job when there's a lot of files).
So is there any other ways that I can automated the task of copying the files and setting the correct permission without using custom recovery?
Many thanks!
Have you tried using a script or bat file to copy and set permissions through adb from your desktop?

Thanks. But I don't know how to do a script or bat file to be used with adb. Can you write up some guide for it?
I'll see what I can do. No garruntees. But another option is to push the files through adb then use v6 supercharger to fix emissions. Idk. Let me see if I can Whip something up for you.

package can be flashed through stock recovery but they are needed to be signed properly with the manufacturer's key

Thanks but I wanna copy files for some tweaks only.
Well I found 1 solution, that is to manually copy the files than use ROM Manager app to fix permission. Also found thread here in XDA about using .bat file to automated the push and set permission but as I very lacking in knowledge in using command, I'll stick to Root Explorer + ROM Manager combo.
you can root device, cat stock recovery.img, and then compile cwm recovery.
Check this website someone is working on getting CLOCKWORK recovery on U30GT

[HELP]Need "services.odex" for SU760 ICS

Good day sirs...
I need help in bringing my phone back. I accidentally renamed the "services.odex" file into "services.odex.bak in an attempt to increase the character limit on the SMS. Can someone please post the said file so that I could paste it back into it's proper place --> /system/framework
I don't have a backup and I also don't have USB Debugging enabled for it.
The phone is an SU760 by the way, mentioning it again just in case you missed the title.
Put to your sdcard aroma file manager install it in your recovery (if it is cwm) and rename the said file back
If you have twrp than boot to recovery and in menu choose advanced --> file manager and do the same thing.
