Hi All.
I've used swype for a few days until it expired.
Now I can't get it to work.
I've searched and all I found was to remove the dalvik cache, uninstall the app, and reinstall it.
Problem is I cant clear the cache since there is no root for the X10.
Anyone has any tips?
PS: If you're going to be thick and say "search" please refrain from comment, as I've already searched and gave this a good couple of hours of my time before bothering anyone else.
thanks!!
PS: swype i'm using is this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=671070
I found a more recent version of swype, in the Nexus One forum, that works on the X10.
mine expired today too and i miss it already..
hopefully they release a full version soon.

Very first post.
I get an error about the screen size not matching using the above installs.
i cant even download it, 'download unsuccessful: cannot download. The content is no supported on the phone'
See this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6814777
The version for FWVGA (854x480) is at megaupload.com/?d=3GA2E760 (this version will not give the screen resolution error).
Sorry I can't post them as actual links (new user)
Enjoy
Tried potrait workz fine.. First time tried swype an all and it works really well. Landscape does give out that error however the keyboard stays the same size as though its in potrait mode.

I don't know which one they used but:
go to droid life and search new swype beta
use the one for the milestone

I went to Droid Life and got the following link:

Uninstalled my previous version, and reinstalled this.
It works!
I haven't tested much, but it does not come with the expired message.
I can't tell anything else besides that, whether it works well or not and whether it'll expire tomorrow!
hopefully is all ok
Is this an only english version? Or is there a possibility to get german language support, too?

loads of thx! can anyone confirms whether this version will expires or not? i mean, its annoying to use something that keeps on expiring! waited so long for the official to launch
btw, is this an edited version? by edited i mean modified or hacked
On every theme thread people keep reporting that the theme is causing the problem, they're NOT!!! The Market has had issues since 1.6, and they continue with 2.1, and the Market issues aren't just related to the X10.
Go to start a new thread and type "market issue", and you will see that other brands and handsets suffer from the problem too.
I know I haven't modded the Market app, and know that others haven't too, had we of done there might be something to suggest it's the theme, but we haven't and it isn't!!
Just uninstall the market update from "manage applications" and all should be well
Never said it was your fault mate. But it is something that is easily replicated for me. I only use your theme so do not have a comparison.
I am NOT complaining, I choose to do these things to my phone and I am aware of the risks.
The market seems to be getting worse rather than better, really wish they would pull their finger out and sort it.
I have no problems clearing market cache etc.....
Something about the process of applying themes certainly does seem to upset the market though, but like I said, I do not hold you responsible my friend.

I'm just saying as it's been said on every theme thread despite the issues existing since 1.6 and with other phones too.
Hate to say I told you so
Definitely not a theme thing. I've seen this happen with a fresh firmware install.
It has something to do with the Market update, and as others have said simply uninstalling the market update fixes the problem every time.

They are aware of the problem for a longer time, but instead of making it better they just keep sliding downhill...it seems to be complicated. There were several times devs couldn't add their apps because of maintenance, so they are trying to solve it.
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
I know this has nothing to do with themes, because since I upgraded to 2.1 it happens to me almost once every other day. I just uninstall updates and it goes back to normal. It is obviously a Google issue.
If you guys have titanium backup pro, try using the its new feature of applying the market update directly into the rom (system/app). This seems to have increased stability for me. If you don't have the pro version, you can still move it via root explorer or adb.

I installed the theme step by step. but seriously the mearket stop working. it forces closing. it downloads as usual, but the problem is when it install, force closing.
can not install.
but i really like the theme. looks so mmwaaaaa !
i just repaired my phone.
is there a way to stop that stupid market updater?
it messes up my eternity theme, and disables appbrain FWInstaller :'(
Reedz, it isn't the theme mate. I believe it's simply the act of messing with those files that upsets market. I can often get the same result messing with other files. It is simply 'twitchy'.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Guys i got the way to solve this, you need to navigate to settings/applications/manage applications/market/ then in market uninstall updates.
go back to market and start downloading as usual.
hope it helps.
these things happen often , if one is decided to mod and go against the shipped ROM , then we have to anticipate such things ...
anyway as Reedz posted , the solution simply worked... XperiaX10user , keep up the good work , whatever ,and however much we work , Sh!t just happens out of nowhere ... , anyway i am ur fan man... waiting for ur next release , hoping that you get on to more color and rich combo of colors...

Yep. I did that and was able to download as usual. The next time I opened the market after that it was the updated market again though so there doesn't seem to be a way to suppress it completely. However, after the market upgraded itself the second time (after the uninstall updates step) the new market worked perfectly fine with my modified theme. No issues.
my father in law just got the droid incredible. I turned him on to swype......except it only works for a week, then it pops up saying the trial has expired. I don't want to keep logging into swype's website, having them send me a link through email, and keep installing this once a week. is there a way around this ? his phone isn't rooted or anything (he wouldn't let me).
he's willing to pay money for an official working version that doesn't expire.
and he's pissed that his wife's droid 2 comes with it factory installed.
thanks

Look into the reason as to why it is expiring. It shouldn't be doing that. Did he register for the open beta?
yes he registered. I know he did because I did it for him
after a week or less, he goes to swype something and it beeps and says "your trial version has expired. please upgrade to the newest version"
and we have done that every friday or saturday for 3 weeks in a row now.

Might wanna run the installer again. I've been over on swype forums and the Incredible seems to have the most issues, also they just released an update a few days ago.
afewgrams: thanks for the tip, i already ran the installer with the newest update; waiting for it to expire
I've never had an issue. Try updating the installer. Swype was recently updated so that could be your issue.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
I think you just happened to install swype a week before it expired, and they just released an updated version.
So basically, you have to update when there are updates, and you installed right before an update. There normally are not updates very often, you just installed right before one.
It happened to me, that particular beta version expired, and there was a new free beta version, installed, all good.
You have to uninstall swype and the swype installer to install the new one though.

Cheers!
Well. I'd really like to get swype running (Latest version) without expiring. Can someone help me?? Here or PM would be great thanks in advance!
I've gone through about 5 versions of Swype that people swore wouldn't expire, they always do at some point. I moved over to SlideIT Keyboard....Works just as well and will NEVER expire. PM for it.
I saw somebody mention that Zinio is included in the 3.1 update. Is this correct?
I had previously installed it with directions here, but it's a little funky. First, it gave me about eleven sample magazine issues. The size of the magazines on the library screen seems to be a little off and the app is otherwise quirky.
Everyone experiencing this, or was it because I had the other version installed? Any way to fix this?
Thanks!
As of today, Zinio is up on the market. Should be able to grab it on 3.0.

Cool, I'll just remove it and reinstall just to make sure everything is okay.
It keeps freezing on me when I try to open a Magazine for more info. Cant delete it as well since it came with 3.1. Going to try to install it from the app store as it keeps telling me to update it.
I kind of wish all of these free applications weren't pushed out to us. Especially since you can find most of these apps on the Market if you want them anyway. I have no use for Zinio and don't feel like rooting just to remove it. Though, compared to my DX, I definitely can't complain about bloatware. And, to be honest, most of the "bloat" added by ASUS has proved to be quite useful
Updated the version from market and it's works!
Free magazines.............hmmm....not bad!
Keep it up Asus...I love your bloat wares
First....free newspapers and now free magazines....hahaha....iPad 2 Killer!
Can anybody confirm that the preinstalled version includes the free magazine subscription offer detailed in Zinio's press release?
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...roid-market-for-tablet-devices-122859609.html
If not, might be worth trying to install the app first, then let it upgrade when Asus' update hits for the US market...
The free newspapers thing is a total waste of time for me -- seven free issues is next to nothing. A free two year subscription to one of 25 magazine (or is it all 25? The press release isn't clear) seems quite worthwhile though.

Any way to remove this without flashing my device? It's not a big deal, just an icon under apps but I'd like to get rid of it.

And suddenly the lightbulb came on. Of course you're right, the way it was phrased just threw me off. It's one issue of each magazine listed. (Well, they've actually listed 25 magazines as included, and per your own experience there are only 23 available, but near enough the same thing.)
...which to me is a complete waste of time, and makes me again wish Asus would stop jamming this bloat down our throats. Like the newspapers, it is one more thing I'll never use, and one more icon obscuring the apps I actually do want to use. (Not to mention wasting space and resources on my tablet.)
Thus far the only thing I've found worthwhile among Asus' preinstalled apps is Splashtop Remote Desktop, and that can currently be bought standalone for just 99 cents.
I really wish Asus would give us a version without all the bloatware installed, and just let us buy our own apps. Saving a few cents on the one app I do use isn't worth it to me to have all the other junk I'll never touch on there too...
Probably because Zinio pays them per install or account created from one of their devices...
(I'm guessing.)

Yup, that's usually the case with this kind of bloat -- the manufacturer gets paid to put it all on there, in the hopes that it'll lead to you paying the software company to use the product that's stuck on your machine.
I doubt they're getting paid much to stick all the junk on, though, and I'd happily pay $10-15 to have it all taken back off.

Actually had Zinio on my iPad and enjoyed it. Wife had cheap o magazine and I had car and driver magazine quite cheap.
As for splashtop our version can be set to the ASIs resolution of 1280x800 whereas the market version only goes to 1024x768. So I don't consider any of it bloatware but rather good apps I would have purchased anyway.

Keep getting error with preinstalled bloatware "zinio reader". I went to the market and DLd "zinio" which seems to be the same exact thing as zinio reader except a much larger app. The mags are free which is pretty cool but once they aren't free I'll be deleting that ish' stop the bloatware!!!

No it does not. I am running OMFGB 1.30 7/25 though

Oh and yes there is a Verizon tab. From the main page choose apps. then scroll to the bottom and under editors choice you will see a Verizon rectangle.

Well since you're rooted you may not get it pushed to your device. My Nexus One still has the REALLY old market on it because it's rooted and running some custom ROM(cannot remember which one right now). Some custom ROMs will allow for market update pushes, but some won't, especially ROMs that have themed markets....a pushed market update would screw that up, so devs usually prefer to update the market in their ROMs themselves thru a ROM update.
I hear you on the bugs. I installed the new market apk and finally uninstalled it because of the numerous issues it has. I'm stock on the TBolt and still have not got the new market either....so I'm definitely not cool enough for it.

Yeah I just checked my Nexus and it's running some old version of CM(with really old market), so I think the CM guys block market updates. You'll get it from them eventually and the best thing is that it they will yank out the bugs for you.
