Can't remove an app - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

I installed an app from the market but can't uninstall it. The program is PressReader. Does anyone have trouble with this app. And how do I go about deleting it off the device completely?

Pressreader is a pre-installed app so it sounds like you have mistaken updating it from the market as installing a fresh version. You can't uninstall /remove pre-installed apps in the rom unless you have rooted your device.

Really...ypu possitive it's preinstalled on the transformer? Cause I swore I downloaded it. It had the install button when I went to the market. It also had an uninstall button after it's been installed, but doesn't do anything. Uninstalling will show the "install" button back when you visit the pressreader page. Oh well...may have to root it later at some point

100% sure. It comes with a trial of 5 downloads or something. Not removable without root.

Just got my Transformer yesterday, PressReader is pre-installed.

The root account is the highest privileged account on unix-like operating systems, such as Linux, which Android is based on (well, it is). It's equivalent to (an elevated) Administrator on Windows/OS X.
Having root access means you can do (for the most part) whatever the hell you want to the device. You can delete any file you want, you can write files anywhere, you can mess with the configuration in ways not normally allowed (such as tethering), backup installed apps with their configuration, etc.

Use Titanium backup, uninstall that way.

With Ti Backup, you can just freeze the app. That way you can always bring it back if you change your mind ...

Is it poss. to set up Market to recognise non-market apps for updating purposes?

i recently restored a lot of apps from the SD (i use apps2sd) and i realise that the Market won't normally recognise these as they weren't installed through the Market.
the problem is now i don't automatically get a prompt to update them.
is there a way i can force the Market to recognise these apps?
i'd also like to know if this is possible.
I think paid version of Titanium Backup can do that..
If they're free, you can uninstall and redownload them from the market. If they're paid, you should always be able to redownload them [for free] from the Downloads tab.
Slow and painful, but it works. (The reason there's no quicker way is probably to prevent pirates.)
Use aTrackDog... It worked for me...

So are you saying that when you install from the market, if if you have apps2sd, they install on the phone and not the SD card?

And where did he say such thing? He said that if you install apk through ASTRO, adb install, etc., then application will be not registered in Market, so there will be no update notifications for it.

The free version does as well. Alternatively, you can take a direct look at the data in question. I think the relevant records are in the assets10 table inside /data/data/com.android.vending/databases/assets.db

[Q] Titanuim backup

I just installed titanium backup to backup apps and settings.
So far, all it has done is ask me for root access. About 400 times. It's asking for root permissions for the same package, UID, everything, and it's rendered the app useless.
Anyone know whats going on?
Obvious question but do you have root access?
Also, click on the problems button at the bottom to install busybox.
I have root access and installing that doesn't help. Not what i expected from an app everyone says is brilliant. Are there any alternatives to TB?

Yeah, installed the version of busybox it came with. Still no good, it's making me have to reboot my phone every time i even open the app. I've reinstalled busybox, TB and superuser, still no good.

Can i uninstall all asus apps?

I just bought the asus transformer, I primarily use it to surf the net. I dont need all the asus apps like mycloud, mynet.. etc. Is it safe to uninstall them? and if I do will I be able to get them back if I do a factory reset in case i need them in the future?
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.
You need to root your tablet to remove system apps.
First of all, I don't know if you are aware of the fact that you will need root privileges to uninstall stock apps. If you're not and you don't have a lot of experience with rooted android devices I would recommend to get along with them - you probably don't want to make your warranty void already.
Otherwise I believe - anyone correct me if I'm wrong - it should be safe to remove mycloud or mynet. But be sure to make a backup with titanium first.
Anyhow I think both apps I mentioned are very useful and you normally pay for functions like splashtop viewer
if you are rooted , you can run the KRAKD rom and it will give you the option to remove all or just certain ones,
thats what i am using
root and titanium backup

Keep in mind that removing asus apps can cause problem when applying the ICS update (it won't update).

[Q] Using Odin for stock rooted

I want to use the stock rooted version located in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436&page=18
I have a couple questions:
I want to use the "wipe" version, to try and get rid of some battery issues. I do not want to wipe the sd card. I use it strictly for storage of music & pic.....no apps. Can I remove the sd card and do the stock rooted, and then just put the sd card back in?
Secondly, will stock rooted allow me the ability to get rid of bloatware? Media hub, allshare, etc? My device is discharging at about 5% per hour which I find high. I've disabled a host of things to try and get this down, plus I'd just like to have more control on what's on my phone.
Brand new to rooting android ( used to root my blackberry and Motorazor back in the day) and I didn't see any specific answers to these questions.
Thanks in advance!
Yes to both questions. You may want to find a list of bloatware apps that are safe to remove/freeze before deleting apps.

Once you root, use Titanium Backup to uninstall bloatware, but only those on the safe list.

I highly recommended that you use Titanium to freeze the unwanted apps, but NOT uninstall them. You may need them back later for new software update. Freezing is very safe as you always can unfreeze them. Once you froze the app, it only take up a tiny little space on your storage but the benefit goes a long way.

[Q] Uninstalling Built-in Apps

I want the moderator to ban me.
You can use a program like Titanium Backup or Root Explorer but your phone needs to be rooted first.

Just root the phone and use Root Uninstaller pro or delete manually the apps you want using an explorer.

Can anyone suggest me any way to uninstall those?

without root all you will be able to do is disable most of them. there are some apps that you will not be able to disable, the only way to disable or remove ALL system apps is to root and use an appropriate app as stated above.
Can you root the phone without first unlocking the bootloader and voiding the warranty? I'm thinking no but l'm new to this phone so I don't know.

No you cannot root without unlocking bootloader. Its like a choice, you want to stick to warranty or enjoy power features like removing bloatware!

Whichever apps that exist in your system partition!
The simplest way to check that is to open the app launcher tap and hold on the app, when icon becomes ready to dropped on homescreen
You can check the top of the screen if you see uninstall option, then that app can be uninstalled. If you see only app info then app cant be uninstalled
But if you open the app info you can disable the app. Disabled apps wont show in app launcher!

If I disable any app, it holds the ROM space, and many other apps are not possible to make disable.

disabling will pretty much be your only option if you dont want to root. yes it does keep space on the phone. if you want to remove the apps completely to gain that space they only way would be to root

A few minute ago, I have found a way to uninstall those apps. I can uninstall most of them, but not the all.
Process:
Step 1: Select a specific app that you want to uninstall.
Step 2: Search whether the app update is available.
Step 3: If update is available, then update the app.
Step 4: Uninstall the updated app using any type of uninstaller.
I have been able to uninstall one app. But I have forgot to notice some important things.
The app is no more in my phone, but I am not sure about the ROM space.
If anyone have a unrooted moto G, I expect you to do the test, and share the result.

Which app did you unistall?
when you uninstall an APP being unrooted, it is impossible for the app to actually leave /system (ROM).
So may be the icon is deleted from the launcher, the app cannot go away! It will be listed in all apps section!
And if you are unrooted, why does the ROM space matter to you? Its not like you can add something in that space you just recovered?
