ultimate droid rom - don't bother trying it - G Tablet General

Just gave this rom a shot and wasn't at all impressed. It ran very quickly and smoothly and definitely had some nice features. However it is clear to see there was no effort made to properly set this rom up for a tablet and most stuff displays like it should be on a phone.
If for some reason anyone does want to try ultimate droid just make sure to format system first from whatever rom you're coming from. I did that and had a totally problem free install.

Recommend me a ROM based on my usage?

Hey guys, I have HardSPL installed and am fairly seasoned in the cooked rom kitchen.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good ROM? I know that mostly all of them have something good to offer. I was using NATF's 4.3 and now 4.5 but after lag issues and the like, I've chosen to use a new ROM, the Elite Project RC3.
Lets see how this turns out, as I remember reading somewhere that the EPRC3 ROM was notable for its speed. Speed is very important to me lol. I don't like seeing my texts type themselves in 30 seconds after I did it on the keyboard. And sometimes music just won't play or something and its very annoying, other times wifi doesn't work accordingly, things take long to load up, its rare for me to even browse the Touch Flo 3d, like swipe my finger from "home" to "programs" without some lag...on 4.3 this was not a problem but on NATF 4.5 it is.
I don't use GPS, I don't really use much of anything that sets this phone apart lol.
All I do is:
*Browse the web using Opera/Skyfire
*Youtube
*Text
*Phone calls
*Music player (Don't have an iTouch anymore...)
* Wifi (Don't have a 3g/data plan
* play some of the games and use some onboard memory.
* Take pictures/videos and the like.
I don't really use much of those programs that are their (Save a few) and I would love to have the option to be able to call and text via an internet connection rather than the phone's signal, since my school gets no reception but has wifi all over hte place.
Basically, I want all that I use, or most of it, with fast responsiveness. I disliked all the AT&T crap too and don't want that back...
Right now Elite Project is working pretty good, an upgrade from NATF which was giving me issues. I appreciate all the work put into the ROMS though.
Can you please recommend me a ROM to suit my needs?

[Q] What to do with HTC Desire HD?

Hey
Im kind of behind with Smartphones because I had a Samsung D500 for several years, it was only a few months ago I upgraded and got myself a HTC Desire HD on Contract. Ive been using it completly standard, with all the official software etc..
Im beginning to get quite bored of it now though and I still have like 1 and a half years left on my contract.
All I seem to do with the phone is... standard SMS texting, phone calls, facebook, twitter and check a couple of websites every now and then.
I have read around and hear things about "ROMS" and "ROOTS", but dont really know what that means.
Im just wondering, if you had this phone.. What would you do with it exactly?
Something to make it look/feel like a new phone maybe..... I duno
Just want some opinions, recommendations really
Thanks
Custom ROMs
A stock ROM is the version of the phone's operating system that comes with your phone when you buy it.
A custom ROM is a fully standalone version of the OS, including the kernel (which makes everything run), apps, services, etc - everything you need to operate the device, except it's customized by someone in some way.
So what does the "customized" part mean? Since Android is open source, developers are free to take stock ROMs, modify them, strip them of garbage, optimize them, add things, and pretty much do whatever their imagination and skills allow.
Custom ROMs are oftentimes faster, more efficient, and use less memory because:
- the developer ripped out useless garbage, such as carrier installed apps or
- the developer optimized the kernel. For example, an undervolted kernel can provide a much better battery life than the stock one.
You can upgrade to a version of the OS that has not yet been released for your device, or never will be. This is possible in 2 situations:
- A leaked version of the new ROM showed up online, and the developer got on it like the fat kid chasing an ice cream truck.
- A ROM from another phone was ported by the developer to work on yours. For example, G1 and MyTouch 3G users may never see Android 2.1 officially released on their phones, but Cyanogen, one of the most respected Android developers, was able to create a custom ROM running 2.1 for those devices.
ROOTING:
Getting root or rooting your phone is the process of modifying the operating system that shipped with your device to grant you complete control over it.
This means you can overcome limitations that the carriers and manufacturers put on your phone, extend system functionality, and even upgrade it to a custom flavor of Android.
The name root comes from the Linux operating system world, where the most privileged user on the system (otherwise known as Administrator on Windows) is called root.
You have access to alter any system files, use themes, change boot images, delete annoying stock apps, such as Sprint's NFL Mobile live and Nascar Sprint Cup Mobile, and other various native applications that might drive you crazy (Footprints, Voice Dialer, etc).
On most rooted Android devices, you can back up your entire system to an SD card, much in the same way you can image a hard drive. This is great if you’d like to try a new ROM, as you can back up your phone, wipe it completely, flash the new ROM, and if you don’t like it, just restore from your backup to get your device back to exactly how it was before you wiped it.
The easiest way to do this at the moment is by using ROM Manager.
ROM Manager allows you to easily flash a custom recovery image which is what you will need in order to backup and restore your phone. The recovery image is a special program that can be booted into outside of the phone's main operating system, sort of like an OS recovery console on a PC. By default, the recovery image on most Android phones only gives you a few options, mainly related to wiping the phone. Custom recovery images expand upon these options and usually include scripts that can do things like backup and restore your system, fix file permissions, or allow you to flash custom ROMs that the normal recovery image would otherwise reject.
Normally, flashing a custom recovery image requires some command line work, either on your PC, or on a terminal emulator directly on the phone, but Koush's ROM Manager should automatically flash his custom recovery image (known as ClockworkMod Recovery) for you, provided you're on one of the supported phones and that it is already rooted.
Using ROM Manager is pretty simple. Download and install the application from the market, fire it up, and you’ll be prompted to allow the application superuser permissions - make sure you approve it.
The first thing you’ll need to do is flash the ClockworkMod recovery image that I mentioned earlier, which can be done right in the app (it’s the first option). ROM Manager should automatically find the latest version of the right image for your phone, download, and install it - the whole process is seamless.
After that is done, you can simply use the ‘Manage and Restore Backups’, and ‘Backup current ROM’ options to, well, backup your current ROM or restore from an existing backup.
Rooting Guide for Desire HD
Desire HD ROMs
If you're bored with the look and feel of the phone then by all means customize it. Custom ROMs etc can help with that, or even just trying another Launcher like ADW EX. Make it a project to do something creative and artsy and then post your work here. Rooting will allow greater scope of what you can accomplish, like changing the system Fonts, for example.
Really though, if you're not interested in that kinda thing, i'd suggest just doing more of what the phones are designed for in the first place, which is running applications. Perhaps you might edit your OP to request a list of entertaining apps so that people can throw out suggestions?

Heya thanks for that reply
Well I am interested in a custom ROM, it sounds cool. Especially if it removes crap I dont need to save my battery life etc
Id like to try a new ROM, I had a go last night and installed ROM Manager but it said something about it couldnt find superuser and told me to google it lol, so I went to sleep
Now I am awake I am willing to give it a bash and would like to do it
Dont think Id be much use trying to do my own though, would rather use someone elses if Im allowed too? A very fast/power efficient/nicelooking/stable one etc.. Any you recommend?
Just doing that successfully would be a big enough project for myself as its my first time Heh
Before I go ahead and break my phone, are these instructions the correct ones for me?
Shall I do what this says to setup superuser?

Sorry I just noticed you have a big massive link with a guide for rooting my phone lol
I am going to do that now then thanks
As for ROMS, for my phone, is:
[ROM] MIUI 1.9.16 v.1: Freshly Squeezed Edition™ 16/09/11
The main custom ROM for me?
Would you recommend that one, from that link you posted, that one seems to be the only main one I can see
Need abit of help, got visionary on my phone. Ticked box r/w after boot or whatever and then when I click on Temproot now, it says rooting device etc.... but then it just goes to a black screen and stays a black screen.
Is this normal or is something going wrong?
- Apparently the latest firmware doesnt allow Visionary to work. I need to downgrade to an earlier firmware? How do I do that lol
Or should I just give up and stop now?
You have to downgrade to Froyo 1.3.2 first. Follow this guide.
Here's a guide for rooting, ENG and Radio S-OFF, Flashing radio and ROM
Flashing a radio?
Um this sounds abit to risky actually for my first time.
So from what I understand is, I could successfully flash my chosen custom ROM but the radio signal for phone calls/SMS texting and stuff.... could not work ?
I dont think I want to take that risk now Ive read that
dont flash any radios the one you have will work fine also have a look around in the dev forums.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=765
Im quite happy with what Ive done, someone mentioned to do it earlier on in this topic and its basically all I wanted, just a fresh look
I changed the HTC Skin to Slate, and then used the GO Launcher and using a green + black theme, done abit of customizing. Before all this I did a hard reset on the phone too, and using JuiceDefender. I like it, happy with it, feels fresh
Thanks for all the help and advice though I do appreciate

New to SK4G and rooting

Hey, new to these forums and new to rooting. I got my sidekick about a month ago (always loved em) and was dissapointed by all the bloatware it came with and how it likes to lag and freeze up quite often.
I didn't want to get a new phone as I figured with a root and new ROM all could be saved.
Well I rooted it myself (using SuperOneClick) a few days ago. Installed superuser, titanuim backup, and rom manager.
Used titanium backup right away to make a copy of full factory system, then got rid of what bloatware I felt safe getting rid of and made another backup.
Now I wana look at flashing a new rom but aren't too sure how to go about it?
Read a few things here and there and aren't 100% sure, id say I'm around 75-80% on how to do it.
A lot of places say I need Nandroid for backup, true? Or can I stick with Titanium and go on?
Next, I can't seem to find many good roms w/ detailed info about installing it and about the rom istelf. Id like to know wat it comes with, wat it doesn't, wat ill need to make it work right and some images to see how it changes the appearance and any performance boosts.
Maybe I'm not looking in the right places or searching the right things.
So what I'm asking is if anyone knows a good rom (ik eveyone has opinions so ill look into all) and how to go about installing the rom and pros/cons of each.
Thanks so much for any and all help guys!
Also if someone thts gotten rid of bloatware on the SK4G, what did you get rid of? I dnt wana take off anything ill need or important.
Again thanks!
I've also been having problems with the phone turning off if the screen is off after a while and sometimes when I turn it on it says something like 'new sidekick tune a few things to get started' and takes about a good 5-10 min before its even useable.
The problem started before the root and as another reason I rooted hoping to fix the problem with some tweaking or flashing a new ROM.
Anyone heard of this problem before or have advice about it?
So I've been looking at the Glorious Overdose V2 and V5. Which have less problems/bugs?
I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Features seem to be similiar.
Some say that on V5 they score lower quadrants but seems to be faster but on V2 ppl are saying battery life and performance are both bumped big and V2 sees to has a battery % mod.
Which of the 2 are better? Or is there anything out there better than either?
Most of the devs include installation instructions with their ROMs, which are usually pretty easy to follow. Just make sure you follow the ones for the recovery you have (orange or red). If you haven't flashed the voodoo kernel, you're probably on the orange recovery. Once you flash a new ROM, you'll get rid of most of the T-Mo bloat. Personally, all my stuff is backed up with Google, Evernote, etc., so I don't worry about making Titanium or nandroid backups. I've tried a few different ROMs, and here are my thoughts:
GOV33+LEAN-PERFORMANCE-RELEASE - Started out good, but over time SU stopped working, battery life degraded. Liked LauncherPro. Maybe it just needs to be reinstalled
neXus_JB_v1.2 - Colors hard to read (white on gray). Seems like too many unnecessary apps (live wallpapers, etc).
MeMoRy - Based on GOV3.3 Lean. Uses Lightning Launcher, which I didn't like at first, but it's very simple and presumably lightweight. However, the supplied Jelly Bean keyboard keeps crashing. I installed the ICS keyboard and removed the JB keyboard, and this is now the ROM I use. You can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837071
Your phone shouldn't turn off just because your screen is off for a while. Are you sure you have a good battery? Your phone will go dead if the batter is dead. If you get the "tune up" screen again, just go through the settings and you shouldn't get it again until you flash a new ROM.
Battery is good, holds a charge all day with moderate use.
When I do get the tune screen, I unlock it, and everything is fine and normal.
Ill start looking for more ROMs and info on them.
And the orange/red thing confuses me. How do I know what I am?
Okay to root is simple to flash a ROM you first need a "recovery" and a "update" file which is located either in sticky on the development page or you can find my thread which has basics you may need
Aldo have the ROM you want on the sk put in downloads on sd
Move recovery to system/bin
Move update to SD card but not in any folders
Now reboot into recovery
Reinstall packages
Now the menu will be yellow
Backup using nan droid if you don't wanna lose a lot of stuff
Now you need to wipe everything on main page an then in advance page if
go to mounts mount all except data I believe (I posted guide a few time but no longer use phone)
install zip from SD card now wait 10 mins an listen to device should say everything is mounted
Now you have a flashed ROM
Now from this point if you want to use a new ROM you
Hold power button go to recovery should now be red
Backup just invade you like the last one but wanna see the new ROM
Check mounts (should be fine but better safe then sorry)
Now wipe everything from main page and advance page
Now install new zip
Going back from one ROM to another
Recovery > restore > "file" done
Sorry I have been on sg3 forums a lot now don't use SK at all anymore either
But before I left I preferred ricandroid nexus roms most up to date I believe
All guides should be find able in other fourms as I post it a lot to help people
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Well things have been going good on the sk4g for a while. Didn't flash a rom as I feel uncapable so I left it rooted and only removed 4 apps tht I seen as bloatware tht I don't use. (Removed right after root in the very beginning).
Well the other day I went to update an app I got recently after rooting (theCHIVE) and it'll download and start installing but I get a red/orange warning triangle in to notification bar saying packing file not signed correctly?
I don't unerstand why its doing this?
Tried it on my normal 4g connection an on wifi as well, same problem. Any help guys?
Your issue is the apk the person didn't sign it correctly or the update took out 2.1 an went to newer firmwares.
If anything back up with titanium just that app you are updating. And then delete the app an install the new one. You then can go back to titanium an restore data
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I tried that and I got the same message, ill try emailing the dev and see what the problem could be?

Blu life View Rom

Hey Folks
I don't have enough permission accessibility to post this anywhere else in this forum, so hopefully the forum gurus will allow it, or move it to the proper spot.
I found a fairly nice rom for the Life View.. It's probably already been posted, but just for the sake of Devs having access to it. Here you go.
I know it shows Yonip 4 in the splash screen.I installed the rom and it's running great. The only drawbacks I see right now, is the camera won't adjust to the full 12 mp, and I haven't been able to get teh video to pause when i look away (I wear glasses, so that may be affecting it)
I found this along with a stock rom at:
Goolge Gerard marshal on google plus
the rom installs via CWM, so do a factory wipe with a cache, and dalvick wipe. and ALWAYS...back up your current rom before flashing
Great phone. I've had mine for about 3 months now, and love the phone. with the rom, it's like having a note 3 without having to pay all the extra money for it. love the air gesture feature.
Blu Life View Rom
I to tried the Yonip 4 Rom and had mixed results. I have recently switched over to a MIUI Rom for the Blu Life View and have had no issues that I know of except I will get the Sim Lock screen when I turn the phone on for the day. I have also gotten this screen using different Roms for the BLV so I am not sure what it is but I get around it by entering 12345678 and it goes away. I cannot disable it in the system menu as it shows that it is not enabled. Thankfully there finally seems to be some love given to the Blu Life View phone and I believe with the right Rom it can be a great alternative to the pricey Note 3.

ROM makes tablet act dumb...

So i used custom rom on my tablet so it wont get kill switch but the tablet is completely lagging...ive used many roms for it and non works fine. Playing fullhd movie is nightmare for me..sounds keeps getting stuck and screams DZDZDZDZDZDZ its really annoing...what do i do? Also lagging is terrible and many other things...i dont really know what to do...
If you are going to keep using the old one, just flash stockband remove the tegraota.apk updated via the instructions in the General su forum. And keep handy a fire extinguisher.
Sent back in time via Android 9.0 TimeText feature.
In my experience, there are very few ROMs that are as polished as the latest stock ones. As mentioned above, just remove the TegraOTA apk and/or folder (whichever one applies / makes you feel safe), and you should be good to go. I did that for my old one, and there's been no issues with it.
