Recommend me a ROM based on my usage? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hey guys, I have HardSPL installed and am fairly seasoned in the cooked rom kitchen.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good ROM? I know that mostly all of them have something good to offer. I was using NATF's 4.3 and now 4.5 but after lag issues and the like, I've chosen to use a new ROM, the Elite Project RC3.
Lets see how this turns out, as I remember reading somewhere that the EPRC3 ROM was notable for its speed. Speed is very important to me lol. I don't like seeing my texts type themselves in 30 seconds after I did it on the keyboard. And sometimes music just won't play or something and its very annoying, other times wifi doesn't work accordingly, things take long to load up, its rare for me to even browse the Touch Flo 3d, like swipe my finger from "home" to "programs" without some lag...on 4.3 this was not a problem but on NATF 4.5 it is.
I don't use GPS, I don't really use much of anything that sets this phone apart lol.
All I do is:
*Browse the web using Opera/Skyfire
*Youtube
*Text
*Phone calls
*Music player (Don't have an iTouch anymore...)
* Wifi (Don't have a 3g/data plan
* play some of the games and use some onboard memory.
* Take pictures/videos and the like.
I don't really use much of those programs that are their (Save a few) and I would love to have the option to be able to call and text via an internet connection rather than the phone's signal, since my school gets no reception but has wifi all over hte place.
Basically, I want all that I use, or most of it, with fast responsiveness. I disliked all the AT&T crap too and don't want that back...
Right now Elite Project is working pretty good, an upgrade from NATF which was giving me issues. I appreciate all the work put into the ROMS though.
Can you please recommend me a ROM to suit my needs?

Why dont you try this one and see if you like it.

other than since this will surely be closed...I would recommend trying them out like you were doing and see, which one you like....I have and they are all so good....

Not to be a pain, but i recommend you try them all and choose for yourself.

Packed-Pandora "Fully-Loaded" Rom

First of all, I'd like to acknowledge the excellent job that mattk_r and nottoosmart did in creating the base Pandora rom and kitchen on which this work is based.
I imported their stuff into my Rom-Packer kitchen, made a few minor tweaks, compressed a few packages, and wanted to see how much I could get into a single build. I was pleased to find that I could get in everything I wanted (and a bit more!).
My target audience here are folks who just want a rom that does it all, and quickly. This is in the style of Faira's roms, in that it is packed full. It has all the base WM6 apps: Transcriber, Enterprise, Entertainment, WindowsLive, WindowsLive Search, Office 2007 (includes Onenote Mobile), VoIP, SqlCeMobile, MediaOS (Windows Media Player), Camera. I have left out/removed error reporting, autoupdate, and sqm. All of which make no sense for a custom rom, and are in my opinion accidents waiting to happen. Catalog I left out just because its a shopping portal, and I imagine you can just visit on the web if you want.
3rd party apps:
Adobe Reader LE, ArcSoft MMS, Notepad, Today Agenda, Battery Status, HTC X Button 1.0, PHM Registry Editor, PIM Backup 1.9, Pocket RAR, Shut XP, Redial, SMS Backup, Task Manager, Total Commander, WM5torage
I also threw in the newly released HTC Audio Manager, which is a very nice audio player.
There are two versions:
One with Voice Speed Dial, One with MS Voice Command.
Registry tweaks:
Thin scrollbar, disabled security, 802.11g, increased ring tone, edge icon, keyboard icon. I also enabled increased file and glyph caches, as for me these help performance noticeably, and there is plenty of ram.
Speaking of ram, I get 29.93 mb free on reboot of the VC version. I imagine it may be a tad higher for the SD version. If you don't like a particular app, just don't use it. It's not taking up any of your storage space anyway! If you want a few more mb of ram, you can disable the file cache settings manually, but I don't think its worth it personally.
Issues:
This rom is based on mUn's latest release, which still has some issues to be worked out, mainly Flash Player and A2DP, but check on the Pandora or mUn rom threads for tweaks and fixes for these as they become available.
Edit: I am advised by mattk_r that a2dp may work. Let me know. (I don't use it.)
For those that need these features now, Faria or Core-based roms currently work. If people are interested in "Packed" versions of those, let me know. Or cook your own!
This is an OS only flash.

Have fun!
going to try it now, looks good, thanks for posting it
It Looks Nice bro
I will try it and get back
Thanks
Seems pretty fast, I only had 27.16MB of ram free with nothing extra installed or running, not even activesync.
Everything seems great except the GPS icon tweak isn't preset and there aren't any extra themes (Black) added already.
None of them are big deals since they can be fixed, but just saying for a "fully-Loaded" Rom, they less tweaking needed after the fact, the better.
Thanks for the comment. If you have a bundle or link that you'd recommend let us know. Or post a cab for people to install.
I could put some more stuff in the Voice Speed Dial version, but the Voice Command version is close to the edge. So to keep the features the same, I'll probably just leave them as is for now. Down the road as my "Packer" becomes more sophisticated, I may be able to squeeze more in, but for now this is about the state of the art.
I don't know why your ram numbers are different. Mine were higher. Still, 28 meg should be plenty to work with I think.
I'm afraid there will be some tweaking to be expected. We are creating things that aren't perfect. I appreciate your help.
Best wishes,
a little error with voice dailing with headset
Nice Rom, surely a fast one but
when tried to dial with the voicedailer thru my bt headset nothing happened...
i getting used with the fact that voicedailing gives problems with some roms but this one is easily to handle:
From HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\BTA GExtModule = "\Windows\btagext.dll" (string)
To HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\BTA GExtModule = "OEMAGW.dll" (string)
and it works....
still a nice rom....
Loaded it this morning cleanly. As others have said it is nice and quick. My old ROM had been in for all of four weeks so it was time for a change
I had some issues with AS on first sync. My favorites and most of my ring tones didn't come across even though it showed Synchronized. I re-synced and all came across bar my tsk files and the notes. With the notes, I have two copies of each. One is the original from the PC sync along with another pre-fixed "Changed copy of" in the filename. Never seen this before.
It does seem fully loaded with one small omission : the Wireless Today plug-in. Ill find it and add it in but perhaps this could be considered for a future up-issue. A small quibble and easy to fix.
Downloading now...
Hello!! Im just downloading your ROM, i look just like what i install all over when i hard reset my device so i will give it a try. However i thing there is another PDF reader out there that many claim is faster and lighter, i dont remember the name. I will look out for it and spread out the word.
I have some questions:
Does this ROM has has the Camera v3.0?
Does this ROM has the bluetooth explorer enabled and working?
How much is the battey consuption and idle processor 4% ?
Best regards !!
Thanks pdamol for the fix.
Tpalik, yeah, unfortunately activesync acts up at times with reflashing. I don't think its this rom. I have a whole hocus-pocus routine I go through now to avoid duplicate entries when changing roms. I've had thousands of notifications, and thousands of contacts before, which really made me panic. Hope you didn't have too many notes to delete.
In the future, try deleting the sych relationship from both your PC and the mobile device before reflashing. Then re-synching, adding only one category at a time, and watching carefully to see that each time the additional category is actually synched. Thats helped me.
Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.
Hope you both enjoy the rom!

Yes, pdaXplore is out there, but there are mixed reviews about whether it is actually lighter on resources when running. (It is a slightly smaller .exe) So, I went with the standard, since I could fit it in. If you like the other one you could install it too.
I think it is Camera 3
Not sure about the bluetooth explorer.
Idle processor is 0-2% with occasional bounces as the system does something or other. Battery life should be good.

GPRSStallworkaround: Not sure, but there's a registry editor included so you can put it in yourself if needed.
G4: Yes, its safe. Read up on how to do it if you haven't done it already though.
Smartskey: No, I don't use it, but if you want it just load it in yourself. It's a really small program. BatteryStatus, which is included, does overclocking on its own.
10 button: yes
voip: yes
Take care,
Does your packed ROM include the GPS application and Icon?
ROM looks very good and I would like to try but need the GPS and a lot of ROMs don't include it.
Thx,
Jim

Hi, No it doesn't. I'm not sure why not. If I find it I'll put it in the next update. (Along with the other fixes people suggest.) Having said that, I have no problem connecting with my GPS over bluetooth and TomTom is happy. I've read that app has been impossible to get to work properly, and most of the GPS folks avoid it. If you have problems getting going with the current set-up and want how I do it let me know.

Nope the GPS icon its not enabled.
I just flashed with this ROM and my device has frozen 2 or 3 times also it has a little trouble with the voice dialer, when in press the voice activation button it says that it cant start the assigned app.
Strange. I will fix it by myself. but i dont like to fix recently flashed ROMS.
Hi charly_mx,
Sorry for your trouble. Try a hard reset (if you haven't loaded too much in already). Or a soft reset if you have. (Using the pinhole.) I'm using the voice command version, and haven't had any problems with freezing. Is it a particular app? We could see if others are having trouble with it as well. If you post the fix for the voice dial activation I'll make sure it gets corrected in the next version.
Thanks,

I just got it!!! Look.
The Voice Speed Dial is bad assigned in the button config. Instead of being assigned on the second option of the button 4, it must be assigned in the first assignement (for a single key press activation). The second assignment of the button 4 is meant to be the "press and hold" function. Thats why it wasnt working with a single key press. Its just a slight config option.
Best regards.!!

Which WM6 Rom is Better for you ? say your Reasons

each person has so many expectations ! say them and write which WM6 Rom is better according your needs and expectations .
I personally use NBD 7.2 Vanilla -> fast, clean and no problems whatsoever!
same here, i want one that is fast, clean, and just put the programs you need, currently happy with NBD 7.2
I just installed the "XDA Mobile 6 (XM6)" rom yesterday and am very happy with it. Theres a good selection of extra apps that hardly take up any memory. I havent tried any other roms but this one is very fast , faster than the qtec wm5 rom i had on it before.
I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario (not Vario II)

Pretty much the same thing here. XM6 is what I'm using and am quite happy with it while I'm doing my research learning how to cook my own.
I'm sitting on Core 2.0n as I am currently out of my home country and have the phone permanently switched off. I am weighing my options for when I return, because I want to reflash to a ROM with Office 2007 (to match the upgrade I just did on my computer). I'm a fan of the Vanilla style ROMs so I can just add the programs I like, so I will probably go with NBD. I'm just sad that my Pocket Sudoku high scores will be reset!
7.3...
Just the right amount of apps , and fast even with HTC home and audio. Bluetooth is greatly improved (not just stereo)
Currently using Pandora V3/V3.1, so far so good
Ti2...believe it or not, Ti2 with all the HTC Touch programs integrated works best with my phone. Fast, no missed calls, and so far no problems...
I'm currently running Pandora 3.2 with Voice Command built in (Yeah, I'm not running my own rom right now... I'm playing the field... ). Very nice rom, as its quick and has newer Arcsoft SMS/MMS... So far its been very stable with no quirks that I've seen, and excellent battery life.
The next release of XM6 will be based on (or very similar to) this rom with some customizations I do...
I am running Ti2.2 right now... but I did play the field as well and tried out TNT and XM6, they just contained too many apps that I wouldn't use, therefore went on building the newer version of my ROM.
NBD 7.2 Base, on a Personal ROM ...
tnt-2.0 makes my g3 on tmo run very quickly and smoothly. after installing all fixes and running the htc_streaming_media cab, orb works perfectly at 160kb (able to run on tmo edge). which is infinitely better than m.youtube since i have access to basically everything on youtube without it telling me that youtube's working on it. if i am able to use wifi, why wouldn't i want to use orb over m.youtube? i guess i do sometimes forget to turn orb on before i leave the house...
i'm thinking of switching to sprint for the "mogul". unless i get an iphone...god that would suck. what are you going to do? i like the speed of sprint but the iphone is sexy. both would be two year commitments, though one would be considerably dearer.
also, i don't know if tnt-2.0 just changed the refresh rate of the button holds but i can scan through menus with the 4-way toggle switch SOOOO fast compared to all of the other roms. try opening up your start menu and just press and hold toggle up or down and the selection thing just flies!

i found it via google and then modaco. what's funny is that the person who posted it said it was found on this site. i didn't spend a lot of time looking for it on this site, just went to google. works great though. i do use pie for orb and it opens wmplayer and it's great. like carrying around a 600gb video ipod with a lot of the videos the internet has to offer.
when i visit people in va, i roam on suncom/att edge and it works great there too. wifi is perfect.

To answer the question...I've tried:
NDB 7.3
Crossbow Reloaded 1.7 (XMA?)
Titanium
and Core2n
I found Crossbow Reloaded to be the best for me. It comes with good apps, looks great, and seems to be without bugs. With the help of people on here, the few problems I did encounter were solved (mostly configuration problems caused by my noobish status) and the remaining problem I think I can live with (excessive battery drain...now I have to charge every day instead of every 2 days)
The other roms had their good and bad points, but in the end they just didn't fit my needs. Doesn't mean they are "bad" - they are just not for me...currently.
i looked at that link again and it says it's for smartphones, but it works for m.youtube on my wizard (among other sites).
I'm using crossbow reloaded 1.7.1. Reason: it's very stable, everything working, bluetooth and wifi work great.

My Fuze arrives in 2 days! What to do in the meantime?

So my new Fuze will get here Wednesday, and I'm trying to figure out the best sequence of activities so I can hit the ground running once I got it. Any suggestions?
P.S. My last phone was a Blue Angel, which I flashed and upgraded until eventually the radio stopepd working... and I lost the phone

You can start catching up on the ROM/radio threads so you can be familar with the device and its functions etc.. maybe look at screen protectors/cases for your fuze..
Ill tell you right now...
F*** the default ROM, dont even bother.
Once you get your phone flash HardSPL to it.
Make sure you found a ROM you think will be good, I suggest a 6.5 ROM you make, or any of At0mAng's ROMs, they are amazing.
Then make sure all the apps you want on your phone are ready to be installed.
FULLY CHARGE YOUR BATTERY. I cannot stress that enough.
Get a radio to flash to your phone.
LoL
Scratch ur hair lol
Well if you're intent on keeping it then I'd definitely get a nice case for it...I'm actually looking at a few right now The stock ROM isn't really bad with calls/call quality or anything else.
The only real problem I have with the stock ROM/Radio is that it is TERRIBLE with GPS. From a cold start you can expect about a 10 minute lock time with speed/position lag once you do get a lock and begin using it. So do some research on a radio that would best suite this...if its even that important to you..it is to me
I've read good and bad things about various radios, some say a particular one works for them, others say that it doesn't. I guess you'll have to flash and see..man that sounds dirty doesn't it... lol
Fap fap fap.
Heres a quick list of what (for me) you will need.
-New ROM At0mAngs stuff is good, Elite RC3 also, ROMeOS aswell.
-New Radio Try 1.12.25.19 or 1.08.25.20M1 You dont need the rilphone.dll but i figured it wouldnt hurt.
-hTorch by DeepThought (Light application, Brilliant.)
-PIMBackup Contacts BackUp Software.
-Advanced Config, Registry Tweaker as well as some other useful things
-Diamond Tweak, same as above but more related to Diamond/Raphael
-Nitrgoen 0.3.2, Music Player, Easy to use and nice on the eye.
I basically learned the ins and outs of my Raphael from www.blownfuze.org (if prompted for username/pass both are 'xda') d0ugie is a saint for doing all this so give him due credit.
surf for porn....
tvos
ditto what was said before.
i have the leaked att test rom upgrade and it works great for me. think about some skins, i'm trying out mobilematt's fuzeberry right now, or take a look at spb mobile shell 3.0. Gorgeous software, only it lagged my physical keyboard on the fuze (as did a program called battery meter - displays ur battery at the top of the screen - be sure not to install this). what else?
hmm i have finger menu installed, finger keyboard v2.1, cleanRAM, gAlarm, pocket Uno, skyfire mobile browser, opera mini, iris browser, spb tv, total commander, touch in call screen tweak or whatever it's called. hopefully you'll find a good set of apps

Choosing the right ROM

Well I'm sad to say but all the ROMs I have tried in the past couple of weeks haven't worked for me...
The story of my ROMs experimentation starts with T-Mobile Vario III and T-Mobile customized ROM. In short, like a worst nightmare! New version of T-Mobile customized ROM, nothing happened, everything was exactly same as with previous version.
Then I finally decided to try couple of WM 6.5 ROMs which worked like a charm but WM 6.5 is beta and half of the stuff in it is unfinished... Back to 6.1...
Than: HyperDragon (a few variants), shifu, Paradox, AthineOS, TPCExtreme, Ultimate-X... Mostly SuperRam ROMs... Hundred of pages in topics, dozens of fixes, black screens, restarts and so on... Applications that I don't need, folders confusingly organized, startup and bootup screens that don't fit to one business phone, black background icons (what's wrong with WM icons with transparent background) and so on...
Currently using stock HTC ROM and it works. It is sluggish but my device doesn't restart and I don't have to install at least 5 programs or fixes to make him work...
My question: Can someone point me to ROM that works without reading through 100 pages of topics and installing fixes for stuff that should work like notification and volume control? I use my Kasier as a business phone and primary e-mail reading device and I can't afford for my Kaiser to be offline for couple of hours (not to mention a day) and don't have time to read thousands of posts of "how-to-fix".
What do I need? Messaging (SMS and e-mail with notifications working), Opera, iGO, working Volume control, Bluetooth and jog wheel to be able to quickly quite my device if in a meeting or to change the volume of speaker when in a call.
I don't mean to disrespect all the chef's around and I do appreciate your work because for most of people around here you make their Kaisers work the way they should work!

I totally agree...
Anyway, if you look at the way PDACorner organized his post, you'll see that on post #2, there is a list of known bug with links to all fixes... This is really a way of organizing things that I personnally like very much and can save you from reading 1000s of posts for getting the info...
Flashing is for those of us who want to make our phones perfect, the best Apps, the best speed, the very best function and style. We don't mind a little work to or reading to get them " exactly " the way we want it.
I have worked at getting My phone perfect ( also a business phone ) and it is. None of the problems that you seem to think are inherent in every cooked rom.
You sound to me like the stock rom type not the cooked rom type. Do it HTC's way and stick with the stock rom.
There is a huge difference between stock roms and cooked roms. Stock roms are meant to work flawlessly, without bugs and without too many additional software. The default configuration will work, will (most likely) not crash, but won't do anything fancy either. It might also be slow at times.
Cooked roms are made for those who would like to experiment. People who don't mind a crash now or then, and don't mind to reflash every day/week/month (tick the one that applies ).
If i would use my phone for business purposes i would probably stay with the stock ROM or flash a stable 6.1 ROM, like PDACorner's.
Nevertheless there is no such thing as a perfect ROM. Every ROM has it's advantages as well as disadvantages. Live with it; Windows Mobile just isn't a perfect mobile OS, while doubting the fact any OS can be...
I switch ROM's on a regulary basis. Basic functions always work, no matter the ROM. I flash because additional features work better/faster/more stable on certain ROM's than others. But this requires some of your time, to flash and set everything up again.
The fun is that all of this is up to you. If you like to experiment, then flash as much as you like until you find something you like. There will always be certain flaws where you will have to live with.
There is no such thing as perfect ROM! Always remember to keep flashing and keep reading!

Stock roms are meant to work flawlessly, without bugs and without too many additional software. The default configuration will work, will (most likely) not crash, but won't do anything fancy either. It might also be slow at times.

Work flawlessly Without bugs The Default configuration will work
What stock rom were you using
Do you also think that Vista is flawless and without bugs

Read, my friend. I said they are meant to work without bugs and work flawlessly in a default configuration. You won't hear me say that they always do.
Nevertheless the stock ROM will in most cases do sort of everything the way it is meant to be. The change of finding broken application links or errors from mortscript i.e., is pretty small, if not none. And if these errors do appear, you've obviously bought a phone of bad quality.
This said, i'm not using a stock ROM myself. In that case i wouldn't reply to this topic. I'm someone, just like the rest here i suppose, who likes to switch to the newest, even though the quality might be worse then what i've had. But i'm always in for something new, which you might not be if you're using you phone for business purposes and do very much rely on the call quality, for example.
It's simple really either you stick to stocks or you become a flasher @ which point you will flash untill you find that ROM that you know can be used every day and still carry on flashin to try find a new better ROM if you don't like or got bugz you flash back to your every day ROM......
If it all seems tooo much and your a person who can't problem solve "read" and also put in the time to set up device as you wish then a stock is best bet.
Goverment Health Warning:
After flashing you may suffer from Flashers OCD!!!

Then you have one last choice in picking up a kitchen and learning to cook your own rom, but above warning still applies.
yes
As it has been said, rom flashing is personal preference, please find the perfect one for you whether it is a oem or custom rom through searching and flashing.

[Q] Best ROM for Sprint TP2?

I am looking for the best ROM for the touch pro 2 on sprint, running 6.5 windows mobile. I want it to be fast and not hang up all the time which my phone currently does. Which one do you guys recommend for me. I use my phone all day for web and facebook and sms constantly. Any help would be appreciated.
Asking for the best ROM is like asking a group of strangers who the best actor or actress is. It's all based on opinions. It's not hard to flash ROMs. Just flash a few of them and see what you like.
In my experience, 80% of all lagging and freezing on this phone is caused by Sense. When I switched from Sense to Titanium the speed and stability improved beyond my wildest expectations. I also feel that most people don't give Titanium a fair chance, it's a very well designed interface once you become familiar with it.
Merely switching from Sense to Titanium did wonders to me even on the stock Sprint ROM. Last night I flashed Medium Hill's Titanium ROM and it's even better.

Anyone here could have told you that much. Sense uses anywhere from 40-80+ MB of RAM depending mostly on the tabs you use. Most of our problems with RAM come into play on how to save it without loosing the functionality of Sense. The easiest way is to replace the start menu. The default start menu alone eats up about 20MB or so. The lockscreen takes another 5-10MB. This isn't freed up even after unlocking. There are tons of modifications to try before having to give up Sense. I've tried Titanium, and I like it, but not enough to give up Sense for. There is simply too much to customize and make my own in Sense. It acts almost like its own operating system instead of a skin.
SilenceRom on Sprint is quick and amazing!

Maybe you should actually give 6.1 with the Rhodium Manila (Touchflo3d) a chance. It gives you the essentials of Sense without sucking all of your RAM up. You'll sacrifice Weather on your home screen but so what. If you set it up right you won't have any problems with speed.

Don't you also give up quicklinks ? I disable weather on Sense but quicklinks is something I use all the time.
Anyway, after much fiddling around and many reflashes I settled on VINdows Neodium 2.10 ROM. The Sense on this rom is very fast, fastest of all I've seen. Also, to my surprise, MMAppLauncher that was causing all sorts of problems on Sprint Stock ROM with and without Sense, works just fine. With MMAL replacing default Start Menu, with Voice Command turned off (never use it), and with several Sense tabs that I don't use turned off, I boot to about 103 MB of RAM. That's with Throttle Lock loaded. It goes down to about 75-85 with use, which is still plenty. If Sense proves stable on this ROM (no sudden SR's or Sense restarts), I may actually get used to running Sense again; if not there's always Titanium.
MR.X ROM! its super fast but you cant send picture mails
For me the best ROM means
1) Barebone OS or minimal add-ons
2) Best stability and battery life
3) Most ROM left
I see people use NRG a lot, but it's got too much fluff for me
well for facebook ive found the best way to get on it on opera mobile 10. all the fb apps for winmo suck. and mess around with either regular fb.com or iphone.fb.com ive heard it makes it faster, but i dont see it.
I like the sharkierom!
