Hello,
I flashed my GTab with TNT Lite 4.2.1 a while back, but I was going to switch to Vegan. When I try to go into recovery mode, I get the message in the top corner "Recovery Key Detected" but it won't go into CWM. It just hangs on the splash screen. I've got the update.zip and Recovery folder (with command file) in the root of my sdcard. I opened the command file to check the file path (on my PC), and it's to the internal sdcard, not sdcard2. I even put those files on sdcard2 just in case, but still no go.
Any ideas? CWM 0.8 worked like a charm the first time around when I flashed to TNT Lite, but I just can't get into recovery anymore. I re-downloaded it, and erased and put new versions of the update.zip and recovery folder on the sdcard (when the existing ones didn't work), just in case, but still no go.
I can still boot into my ROM, so I also tried "Reboot into recovery mode" from the CWM app, but it reboots to the Viewsonic splash screen and hangs there. Any ideas, or other ways of getting into recovery mode?
Any help would really be appreciated! Thanks.

I just exchanged my g tablet at office depot and before I put clockwork recovery on the new one, I decided to update it to see what changes were made to the stock g tablet shell as I have been running vegan for a while. The tablet boots and runs as it should, but I cannot get into recovery mode. I hold power and volume + on boot and it says Dectect recovery key and it looks like it is going to boot into the stock recovery but then it goes to a screen where it looks like the tablet is updating (as if it was installing a new firmware) for about 10 seconds, then reboots into the OS...any ideas as to why I cannot get in?
thanks

I don't think the stock firmware's recovery mode has anything like the Clockworkmod's menu. The stock's recovery mode basically looks for a recovery folder and an update.zip in the internal sdcard's root directory and that is. Since there isn't a recovery folder and a file named update.zip in your internal sdcard's root directory therefore the behavior you observed was correct when you tried to boot into recovery mode. You will have to install the Clockworkmod to give you a more advanced recovery tool on the gtab.
Follow this link by scsione889 to install Clockworkmod on stock rom.

What you are describing sounds very much like a successful update via the standard recovery console.
• Are you sure your update didn't work?
• Did you have the update.zip in the root of your sdcard and the command script in the recovery folder?
• What version do you see in the settings screen?
• Did you know that you may need to wipe user data to see the new UI even with the latest ROM?

thanks for the replies
The strange thing is, I have done all of these things. I just did the same steps I did with the old tablet and cannot get it to work.
I will reread all of the tutorials and follow your steps..maybe I am missing something? I just dont see what I am missing..
Here are my steps.
DL clockworkmod.
Put it in the root of my microSD card.
power on device holding PWR and VOL +.
Wait for the viewsonic splash screen to show detect recovery buttons.
Release buttons.
Then gTablet splash screen appears.
then stock android update screen appears as if it is updating something.
about 10-15 seconds later, device reboots to regular OS..
I have also tried these steps putting the clockwork files on the root of the tablet's storage with no luck...It is crazy that I cannot even get into the stock android recovery. I have never had an issue with this as I have had a Droid, Droid X and Droid Incredible and have already modded on tablet..
The only thing that has changed between my tablet and my returned one is the OS version. This one shows 3389 in the settings and I know I never updated my other one.
Did something change with OS 3389?
Hey guys!
Ah, my g tab got bricked and i was able to fix it using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950 thread NVflash and everything worked well except i was not able to boot into recovery, i tried flashing cmw in rom manager and every time i powered up with + vol key it would do the loading boot image but then i triangle with "!" mark in it would happen and then it would reboot.
NOW
I can't get past the white "G Tablet" screen it just keeps rebooting itself, ive tried NVflash and still get the "triangle '!' " when i try the + vol. key...
Have i completely bricked the tab??
First thing.....dont use Rom Manager to flash anything on the GTab. It doesnt play nice with our tab at all. Second.....only use bekit 0.8 recovery at this time. Nvflash your tab back to stock. You can use the update.zip method to put bekit recovery on or just replace part9.img in nvflash with recovery.img from cwm 0.8. Just rename recovery.img to part9.img. You will then have bekit 0.8 after nvflash and skip a step
yay i got CWM downloaded and running on my tab from tegra tabs [i cant post outside links yet haha] I tried to restore my Stock Rom recovery I made when I 1st bought the tab. and I get boot-loop still....
Goes to Viewsonic Page -> TapnTap -> black -> Viewsonic page and repeat..
WHOA ok...
I just retried the restore and just noticed this.
during "Restoring data..." I get
E:Cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk3p2
(Invalid argument)
Can't mount /data/!
im guessing this is the problem... >.< can i fix this?

Follow that if your boot looping
I had the same issue and used the information from the thread to install CW which was the best thing I could do as it worked great. It explains how to install clockwork into the NVFlash image..
From the post located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
"An additional suggestion if you also want to tack on bekit's clockworkmod recovery versus standard recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...3&postcount=17"
The only difference is that I changed the line to say recovery.img as opposed to clockwordmod.img since that is what was in the clockwork mod zip that I downloaded.

I hope this works, thanks so much for all the help!!! thebadfrog!!
Nexus One 2.3.3 rooting:
I used the Gingerbreak App, which has the added benefit of leaving the bootloader alone and locked. The app Root Checker confirms root access and busy box (which I installed separately), and SuperUser is installed.
I've got 2 issues:
1. Titanium Backup claims I'm not rooted. I don't know if what it checks amounts to searching for an unlocked bootloader or not.
2. ROM Manager, while working fine mostly (I was able to make a nandroid backup i think), does not reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery, either by selecting the option, or choosing a .zip file with CyanogenMod 7 (stable). I just get the Android-with-exclamation-triangle screen, and either pull the battery or try to access standard recovery mode via Vol Up + Power (hit or miss). I've tried renaming a recovery flash file to "update.zip" and manually installing it, but the process always aborts (I've tried Recovery Zero and Clockworkmod).
CWM 3.0.0.5 is what ROMM shows, but I should note it did not work downloading the first time. (I got an error that I clicked out of by mistake, and when I tried again to see it, it said it was successful, and I've heard sometimes it takes a few tries).
I've also read something (link omitted since I'm a new user):
If after the "Reboot and Install" step, you immediately get a picture of Android with a big exclamation point, most likely it means the ROM image you downloaded was not cryptographically signed by the developer (which happens if they were in a hurry to release or simply don’t use encryption).
That’s OK – you can fix this by:
-clicking the exclamation point screen, which goes to the ClockworkMod recovery menu or simply rebooting into recovery manually (that’s one of the options in the ROM Manager). Alternatively, you can boot into recovery by holding Power and Home buttons together while powering up your phone
-selecting the option that says "install zip from sdcard"
-toggling the "toggle signature verification" option to turn the verification off (it should say "Signature Check: Disabled")
-giving flashing another try by selecting "choose zip from sdcard" and selecting the right ROM, just like before
However, I can't "click" anything, and I'm unsure of what the first bullet point means. I've tried reinstalling ROMM, but CWM doesn't uninstall (I don't know how to remove it since it arrived via ROMM).
I also tried the Amon RA route, but the bootloader method fails, the ROMM method is pay only (and no guarantee at that), and the terminal method needs a root password (su), which I've not activated and know nothing about, so it can't continue.
Anyone out there know what I can try? FWIW I'm on OS X 10.6.7.
First things first, I am using the SL101 but as I could not find a place for that, I figured this is the best place for this post. Also I hate posting and creating new threads but there is absolutely no other thread like this, I have been searching for 3 days.
So I rooted my SL101 using vipermod with ease, then downloaded ROM manager but I think here is where I hit an issue, When cwm was installed it asked for me to confirm my device and the only device available to click was "Asus Transformer". As every other transformer tf101 firmware has worked on my tablet, I thought it would be fine. Then I was in the process of flashing Revolver 4.2.1 and my battery went flat so that was not ideal and this is when the issues began.
I booted into cwm recovery (vol- + power and then vol+ on the splash screen) and tried to "install zip from sdcard", I got the "Cant mount sdcard" dialog. I then rebooted and tried to flash the rom from ROM manager, when it rebooted, cwm went through a 20 second loop waiting for sdcard, and it did not find the sdcard so the operation was aborted. I tried a factory reset through cwm and when it rebooted, I would get the splash screen and the ASUS logo with the spinning dots loading, but it would not go past that (bootloop?). From here I could not access the OS at all.
Again into cwm and used the peri OneClick R&R Easyrecoveryv0.4. It went through all the unbricking dialog with three reboots, but one of the commands said it could not find "sdcard/recoveryblob". The system still did not work. I then put it into APX mode (vol+ and power) and installed the APX driver, used the download.bat method but the minute it opens commandprompt, it immediately disconnects the APX driver, the tablet remains in APX mode. This method did not work.
Somewhere along the lines I also managed to format the system and data so not when I turn it on it just goes into the splashscreen with the EEEpad logo and nvidia Tegra.
Also tried adb push to push revolver rom onto the system /sdcard/ directory, that works fine but then again it cant mount sdcard so I cant actually do anything with it. adb devices lists the device as 0123456789ABCDEF recovery. Finally I did try boot twrp.img using fastboot with the "fastboot boot twrp.img" command but it hangs on "waiting for device". fastboot devices also does not list any devices.
So I basically have a tablet whose cwm cant mount sdcard, adb works, fastboot doesnt see the device and I can only go onto cwm on the tablet or splashscreen. Can somebody help me out? I have spent a long time trying to fix this.
Fixed
Hi again, sorry for the double post but after posting that I realised the answer was pretty much staring me in the face and now this has been fixed. so this thread can be closed by the bigdogs.
For future reference to anybody who has this or a similar problem, especially if you format the system and fastboot is not working, the issue is cwm v6.0.1.3 (cant mount sdcard issue), I used the PERI oneclickrecovery v0.4. The unbrick selection did not work for my slider as I had already pretty much wiped any data from the system that could have been salvaged by the unbrick, but if you press "r" in the main menu it flashes a new recovery tool over cwm, and this new tool can access external sdcard so just upload the rom zip file onto there and flash. :fingers-crossed: Revolver 4.2.1 is now flashed and working. :victory:
Hi!
I'm im trouble. I've bricked my TF101 in very dumb way: I've locked it between "blind" CWM and broken OS.
Short history:
I tried to install Android Revolution HD.
To do that I installer some CWM by using OneclickrecoveryV0.4. It installed OK with no problem.
So I took Revolution HD Super Wipe Full zip, copied it to card, put it to sd card, volume down, volume up... So I flashed it.
But pad didn't boot. It remains on Asus logo boot screen.
OK, I'm smart, I decided to flash "correct" CWM. ClockworkMod Recovery 3.2.0.1 by Roach2010. So I chose Touch Recovery v5.8.1.8. Why?Because when you click on that link, you find two options: Touch Recovery v5.8.1.8 and ClockworkMod Recovery v5.5.0.4 roach-tf101-r2. And somehow I decided that touch version is better for me. =)
After I installed that, I received ClockworkMod 5.8.1.8. But it doesn't see my card. It see *some* sdcard. I can even fomat it from menu. I can copy error log there. I see a folder named "clockworkmod" on that sdcard. But it is not the real external card.
So I'm stuck with not booting OS and CWM not reading /sdcard.
Any advise?
Use Nvflash to flash stock ICS again and start from there. Check in the stickies around the thread and you should know where to go. Of course you would need a PC to revive your TF101.
Once you get it back to life, instead of using CWM try installing goo manager from the play store, and install TWRP recovery. I've found from reading several different posts that TWRP plays a little better with the TF101 then it does with the CWM.
Once you get TWRP installed and it can see your external card, make a FULL back up to the sd card, or a Spare sd card like I do, so that when (no longer if) I goof something up, I can swap out and reinstall from last known good configuration. I also keep a copy of the sd card on both my home and work computers, just in case.
I'm not 100% nailed down on exactly what it is with CWM and the TF101 not wanting to play nicely in the sandbox together, but there are several at length posts about it. Of course I tried the same thing that you did, and got hosed for an hour or so while I read the posts. And above all, DO NOT use ROM Manager, if you think this is bad wait until you try that one.
Thanks farsight73, thanks MasterDecker!
But I did mistake describing a problem... Device is TF101G, so nvflash is not a solution AFAIK. Serial is B80.
It doesnt boot to ADB, but boots to NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery device and to ASUS Android MTP Device though.
I'll search more for solution on forum, but still any advice =) is gratefully accepted.
Thanks.
