[Q] Booting to Recovery with 3389 - G Tablet General

I just exchanged my g tablet at office depot and before I put clockwork recovery on the new one, I decided to update it to see what changes were made to the stock g tablet shell as I have been running vegan for a while. The tablet boots and runs as it should, but I cannot get into recovery mode. I hold power and volume + on boot and it says Dectect recovery key and it looks like it is going to boot into the stock recovery but then it goes to a screen where it looks like the tablet is updating (as if it was installing a new firmware) for about 10 seconds, then reboots into the OS...any ideas as to why I cannot get in?
thanks

I don't think the stock firmware's recovery mode has anything like the Clockworkmod's menu. The stock's recovery mode basically looks for a recovery folder and an update.zip in the internal sdcard's root directory and that is. Since there isn't a recovery folder and a file named update.zip in your internal sdcard's root directory therefore the behavior you observed was correct when you tried to boot into recovery mode. You will have to install the Clockworkmod to give you a more advanced recovery tool on the gtab.
Follow this link by scsione889 to install Clockworkmod on stock rom.

What you are describing sounds very much like a successful update via the standard recovery console.
• Are you sure your update didn't work?
• Did you have the update.zip in the root of your sdcard and the command script in the recovery folder?
• What version do you see in the settings screen?
• Did you know that you may need to wipe user data to see the new UI even with the latest ROM?

thanks for the replies
The strange thing is, I have done all of these things. I just did the same steps I did with the old tablet and cannot get it to work.
I will reread all of the tutorials and follow your steps..maybe I am missing something? I just dont see what I am missing..
Here are my steps.
DL clockworkmod.
Put it in the root of my microSD card.
power on device holding PWR and VOL +.
Wait for the viewsonic splash screen to show detect recovery buttons.
Release buttons.
Then gTablet splash screen appears.
then stock android update screen appears as if it is updating something.
about 10-15 seconds later, device reboots to regular OS..
I have also tried these steps putting the clockwork files on the root of the tablet's storage with no luck...It is crazy that I cannot even get into the stock android recovery. I have never had an issue with this as I have had a Droid, Droid X and Droid Incredible and have already modded on tablet..
The only thing that has changed between my tablet and my returned one is the OS version. This one shows 3389 in the settings and I know I never updated my other one.
Did something change with OS 3389?

Can't boot into recovery After using NVFLASH

hi all i have a T-mobile G2X and im trying to root this phone so... i try to flash CWM using NVFLASH and everything goes according to plan but once i try to boot into recovery by pressing both volume up and down buttons nothing happens. Once i flash stock recovery phone boots and everything is back to normal but once i flash either version same thing happens again. I tried searching but couldn't find a solution. So if anyone can help me or point me to the right direction i will appreciate it.
You boot into CWM recovery by holding power + volume down (do not touch volume up). Hold the keys a good 10 seconds and wait for the fancy LG logo. Once you see the fancy LG logo (not plain white) you can let the keys go. You will then boot into CWM. You are just pressing the wrong keys. Don't boot that way into stock recovery as it will do a factory reset on your phone.
I seem to be having the same problem, except that my phone only shows the s/w update screen and wont revert back to the stock recovery when i try. nvflash just leaves my phone on the update screen for hours. it will boot up normal if i pull the battery and put it back in, but it only shows the s/w update screen when i try to boot into recovery. any thoughts?
To boot into Clock Work Mod Recovery, you press and hold the "volume down key" and the "power/sleep" button at the same time.
Hold the buttons all the way through the Lg boot logo. After a short moment, you will see a distinct "purplish" bluish glow to the logo. At that time, release both buttons.
You will boot into Clock Work Mod Recover and ready for flashing

This command does not work on the P999. Recovery is not on the standard partition and this command will only reboot the phone. To reboot into recovery (if you have CWM installed on the physical recovery partition and not installed by ROM Manager) you need either Weapon Rom installed, which has this built in or there is an app on the Android Market written specifically for LG 2X/G2X devices that knows where the recovery is installed and can reboot into it. On some G2X (P999) models it says not compatible because of the way LG wrote the build.prop but instead of saying "Ok" which closes the program you simply use the back key to get to the main program screen and it works like a charm.
This app is also preinstalled as a system app on my roms.

Thank You everyone for ur help. Ive figure everything out and im now running MIUI ROM.

[Q] Recovery error

I am currently running the stock 4.0.3 (rooted) on my T-Mobile Nexus S and trying to install a new ROM (AOSP+). When I attempt to go to recovery from the bootloader, I get an image of an Android with its chest compartment open and it boots into the stock build. Can someone help me so I can install my new ROM?
Stock ROMs replace the recovery with the stock one on every startup. You need to rename a file in the /etc or /system directory to get a custom loader to stick.
What you need to do is turn on the phone with Vol. Up + Power (bootloader) and then open up fastboot like you did last time. Now just type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and then hit recovery on the phone straight away. Now do your typical wipes and flash your new ROM. Custom ROMs won't replace your recovery.
Once again, you come to the rescue. Thank you so much!
No problems mate
Hi, I'm getting a same problem, but mine is little different. 2 days ago I installed the driod 4.0.3 ICS, and I didn't like it. I tried to install the older version again 3.2 honeycomb and I can open main page by press Vol. Up + Power but after that when I go to recovery option and I tried to open, its n't opening only showing the picture of an Android with its chest compartment open and triangle sign with "!" sign in it! can you help me ho to fix it or what it is mean!
Honeycomb? Are you using a tablet? Maybe you mean 2.3.x GingerBread.
Regardless, hold power then press vol. down. If that doesn't work, hold power button then press vol. up. I can't remember which one it is You will be in the stock recovery.

[Q] Can't Start Stock recovery mode

Hi
Just Today i noticed that i can't start my Stock recovery mode, I am currently on 8.6.5.21 stock Firmware,
The only thing i did was rooting the Device using NachoRoot and i did not Have any problems while rooting, everything went very smoothly, i rooted the tablet and then installed the superuser app, after that i did batch Backup using Titanium Backup and finally installed rootkeeper
A while ago i tried to boot to recovery mode then i got the picture of the Android with the exclamation mark ( ! ) inside of it.
I would like to know wither this is normal after rooting or not because before i never really tried to boot to stock recovery mode.
if not is there anyway i can retrieve the Stock recovery mode?
I mean as far as i know almost everything you'd want to do you'll have to do it using whatever recovery mode you have.
If there is anything you can help me with, it'd be much appreciated.
Thank you
come on guys 35 views and not a single answer
at least someone tells me wither it is normal or not
Seems normal to me unless you have something on the Microsd that you want to flash.
Sent from my Sparkified TF101 using Tapatalk
so what you are saying is, i have to have a micro sd card inserted with something to flash in order to boot to recovery mode?
I mean what if i want to wipe the data in the device or restore factory settings?
I don't really think it is normal, can anyone please confirm it?
He is right, that is normal.
That is your stock recovery. The stock recovery doesn't do anything except scan for an update file. If it detect one it flash it, if not you get that Android with exclamation symbol. while holding Vol down plus power button and wait till you see the prompt, if you push Vol up within 5 sec it take you to recovery but if you wait a little longer you'll get a prompt to either wipe data our cold boot device

Boot Loop after attempted downgrade to HC

For the second time, I was attempting to downgrade from ICS to HC last night and ran into a bit of a problem. Here's what I have and did:
TF101 with 9.2.1.24 US 20120503
I rooted with PERI-0.4 (found here) and that worked fine. I then installed Super User and Recovery Installer. Started Super User, closed, then started Recovery Installer and clicked the button. It did its thing and rebooted. I had the zip of the latest released HC built on my microSD card and booted into the recovery console (Power + Volume Down). From there I wiped the cache and installed from the zip file. It did its thing for several minutes before saying done.
I then clicked reboot and instead of getting to the android guy with the green progress bar (like it did last time), I get to the revolver screen where it stays there for a few minutes and reboots..and repeats. I left it overnight and still doing it. I tried getting to the recovery console again to try and reinstall, but when I do that (power + volume down), The android logo comes up with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in him. It might also be worth it to add that I can't turn it off unless I hold the Power + Volume Up buttons. Holding the Power or the Power + Volume Down do not turn it off, it just reboots.
PLEASE does anyone know what I might be able to try?
can u cold boot from linux?
Thank to the wonderful people over at AndroidRoot.mobi and their custom NVFlash tool, along with using the latest stock ROMs, I was able to flash the stock rom and now have a full functional tablet again, AND as a double plus? Its at HC
Why did you use Recovery Installer after PERI though? What PERI does is install custom recovery xD
I did because when I tried to install the HC zip file in the recovery manager, It said it was unable to do so (something like directory doesnt exist IIRC) so ran Recovery Installer and then it was able to recover from the HC zip file....before crapping out on me.

[Q] Stock Recovery Broken?

Is my stock recovery broken? Can't update through about device even with stock non CWM recovery.img. Even with factory restore files from the link below I was unable to get native recovery to work. I get a broken android.
I've been manually updating from the link below and I even tried the stock "recovery.img " on that official site doesnt seem to do the trick.
https://developer.nvidia.com/develop4shield
Below thread doesn't resolve issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nvidia-shield/shield-qa/help-stock-recovery-shield-portable-t2850634
AFAIK the "broken android" screen is expected.
You just have to press the Power and Home buttons at the same time (this sometimes takes multiple tries) again to launch the recovery.
Go here and download this tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2661067
Once you have that grab the recovery file and the cwm file.
(Not at a computer right now if you need any files, let me know if you need them)
Turn off the Shield
Hold home, back and the Nvidia button all at once, your in fastboot now.
Here on command prompt type "fastboot flash recovery (location of your recovery image)"
Once you did that on the device go to recovery and you should have the android laying on his back, dead, poor little thing.
Hold home Nvidia button and back and once off boot normally.
One in the system update the system as normal once done turn the device back off
Go back in to fastboot and run on your computer "fastboot flash recovery (location of your cwm file)”
One you do that go back in to recovery and you should have cwm now. Reroot using the flash method "supersu has a flashable file you can use to root" one rooted your done till the next system update.
I have done this for the last 3 or 4 updates and works like a charm [emoji2]

Doesnt work for me. I've tried it so many times and although it flashes everything back to (ota 56 I think) recovery stays broken. Then I went as far as replacing the stock recovery with the official one off nvidias development page still no luck. Tried to flash it bone stock (factory) and although the rom reflects the update/downgrade recovery always stays broken.
