It unlocks the potential for HSUPA if you're still using stock. Doesn't mean it's rolled out in your area just yet.

Yep! Downloading now, thx
Installing right now...
Edit:
How long is the installation is supposed to last? I get an exclamation sign with a little android dude on the screen. Its been like that for about five minutes.
Mine updated ... I was afraid only the Atrix was getting some lovin today...
So I see that this is only a 24MiB update. Is it just a patch? Will it do anything to a custom ROM?

Did it take long to update? I think I bricked my phone.
At work, cant really speedtest right now since i have 2-3 bars cause im surrounded by metal at work. Noticed something funny tho, in the about screen under software information it says the kernel is from april 8th. does that mean it has been ready since then?

I highly doubt you bricked your phone. If you can get into recovery, then you can reflash a ROM.

HTC probably released it to at&t on the 8th and at&t does their "testing" of the update. So basically it took at&t 3 weeks to "test" the update.

You are right, I didn't. I took the battery out and rebooted just fine. I guess I can't update if I rooted the phone.
Just the build.prop is modified in this update?

Looks like there's a new hboot image in this update. Might want to hold off until it is checked out to make sure you can still (or keep) root.

checked mine manually and downloaded an ~8MB update. Phone rebooted by itself into some kind of bootloaded, installed the update and rebooted itself.
Not sure what changed but system info now says:
Firmware 2.2.1
Baseband I997UCKE3
Kernel 2.6.32.9
Build number FROYO.UCKE3
Can you guys compare it to your non updated system info?

Its not an issue really. It is how the rest of the world sets their numbers. And lets not forget where HTC is. Your best bet is to just set up your numbers with the +1 in front like the rest of the world. They are not gonna change this for the few US based phones that come out. Oh and its ATT that is supposed to make those changes.

I'm pretty sure this doesn't fix it for everyone. (Definitely doesn't fix it for me.) Is there any other step besides adding +1?
All my contacts are +13333333333. The names eventually show up, but a reboot makes them disappear.
EDIT: I do agree though, it wouldn't be an issue otherwise.

[Q] T Mobile update 11/21/2011

My daughter's phone this morning had an update from T-Mobile. I told her not to install it, as it may revoke root.
She clicked on it (kids....), but luckily it says it's been post-poned until the 22nd (tomorrow)..
Just wondering if anyone has any idea what it is?
I know any OTA updates may potentiall revoke root, but just wondering if anyone else has gotten this.
The worst it could do is overwrite your root, but it wouldn't take that ability away, you would just need to re-root it after the update was completed. I heard some rumors that KJ2 was being pushed out as an official update, but I'm not entirely sure.
It's 100% true or i wouldn't have posted it. I got the update via Kies. It's coming OTA soon.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Whats KJ2?
Also im running Gingerbreak on it, if it revokes the root, would the thing even boot up?
I got it today. No obvious changes but it does seem to work a bit smoother.
Gingerbreak? you mean GingerClone? Gingerbreak is the rooting method for Gingerbread (2.3).
KD1 was the original stock firmware, then they pushed KG2 as an update, and the latest update is KJ2, which includes some bugfixes and not many other changes.
You can still root after the update. KJ2 is seriously worth it. The phone runs so smoothly now. Although, I still think this is TM's way of staving us off until they release GB. XD

Sorry, you are correct
So it's safe to install the update? I'll tell her to do it as soon as I get home.
is anything else different? I generally try to let others test the waters first, since the last "update" merely removed a useful shortcut function and added Google Books as bloat.

You wont notice anything different except maybe better performance. You should do it.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I went ahead and grabbed the update off Kies. So far, it looks like the persistent memory leak issues have been addressed in the Touchwiz/Zipwip software package. Also, my battery performance has returned to what I expected with KD1 (given my device's configuration).
I haven't encountered any drawbacks to upgrading. No reason to stick with KG2 or KD1 at this point--unless you fell in love with a custom...

I am running gingerclone as well, i got the notice for the update but postponed it, I didn't know if it would be safe to run since i wasn't on a stock rom, I got tired of seeing the update icon so i let it run, it failed.
The phone rebooted and I have not seen the update notice again.
I have TouchMIUIwiz v3 and I also ran the update after getting sick of the constant reminder and icon. It failed and disappears for a few days then come back. I've repeated the process a few times now.
Update installed fine for her and nothing is too different. Safe to go.

Its the same 2.3.6 update that they keep rolling out in waves.
I have the stock GB but rooted with cwm. I got rid of all the att crap with root installer. I took the OTA 'update' and after restart it reported the update failed. Also corrupted my encrypted sd card. dunno why. it won't 'continue update' as grayed out. Especially pissed now as OPs are saying this isn't even the (long awaited) ICS update.
My advice: ignore this update.
I'm waiting for a stable ICS from Samsung to show up on xda; I'll flash that.

Can someone edit the thread title to remove ICS from it? It's irking me.
Yes I keep seeing this thread get bumped and want to go insane
Don't be so negative guys. They roll out OTA really slowly. Sometime over a month or two. This might be real.
