Sorry if this question has been posed already, I tried searching the forums.
I finally rooted my Thunderbolt with Bamf remix 1.5 and have everything setup. When version 1.6 comes out and I want to upgrade, what should I use to backup all of my apps and data so I can restore everything after upgrading the ROM.

Use Titanium Backup for apps and data. If you need help, let me know. Titanium Backup's UI isn't the most user friendly.
You should always make a backup of your current ROM before flashing anything new. Incase something goes wrong you can revert to your backup. Just use ROM Manager for that.
Thank so much. I made a backup and saved it as update.zip. The problem is when I browse my sdcard with root explorer there is nothing in the "Titanium Backup" folder.

Okay, cool. I would recommend getting the Pro version so you can do batch backups. Although, that feature might be on the free verson. I dunno.
I think you can do batch backups on the free version but only for Apps. I think I tried that last night.
On the free version you have to manually hit install for each individual app and the paid version does of for you in batch mode. It is well worth it to purchase the paid version of titanium, along with root explorer and rom manager if you are new to the root game. Good luck.

I just used Bubbys One Click to root my new inspire and would like to ask a couple of questions if you please. First, what do you use to get rid of the "Bloatware? Second, what do you use to do your backups?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this Android system is a complete new experience for me coming from iOS and the iPhone. I must admit that so far I like it and I am impressed with my Inspire.

Titanium backup deletes bloatware and backs up Apps It's a must have for root users.

One thing I gotta say. If you wanna flash a rom, you need to flash clockwork in Rom manager. But when you boot into recovery its blank so to fix this, I had to Eng s off my phone. I thought I was going to have to run commands and stuff like that to do it but it was as simple as a click of a button. Took like 5 seconds too

MyBackup Root is an outstanding full-function system and apk backup app. There's a free version and the paid version. I liked it so well I gladly paid for it. It seems to do a lot more than Titanium for thorough backups. But Titanium is equally an outstanding backup app. MyBackup Root I think is just the new app on the block and is probably why it isn't well known yet.
I used MyBackup to install all the market apps that normally install during a setup. But the new ROM I installed on my HD2 didn't initiate the setup. I had used both backup apps to create backups of all apks + their data and all system data with MyBackup and used Titanium to do a batch backup. I chose to try MyBackup for restoring all my usual market apps and it did an excellent job of it. It didn't install some Google apks, like Maps or Voice Search, but it was an effortless job to find those and install them.
Either Titanium or MyBackup will suit you well.

You can't go wrong with root explorer. Although it's not a free app, the price is worth it.
Root explorer is excellent, I paid nor it, must have for pushing system files. Then I use astro free version for my regular file browsing stuff.
can someone recommended me an app that can backup all of my apps, bookmark etc thing in my xoom? so that i will easily put them back after rooted or flashed my device. its quite annoying to reinstall them 1 by 1 zz

Titanium Backup. I've only been using it for a day, but everybody I've ever heard who has it says it's wonderfully amazing, and it seems to work pretty well from what I can tell. Root required. If you're looking for something without root, then you won't find much.

I'll second that... its the best i've seen/used
I bought titanium because of all the good reviews....but....out of the 30 or so apps I have installed, it seems to only backup a few...like 8 or so. I kept wondering if I was missing something simple, but when doing batch backup it always list a small portion of the apps I have installed.

I've been using it since it first came out.
No problem backing up and restoring 200+ apps on my Nexus One.
Plus it will do settings, sms messages, and bookmarks.
Update. Since I updated to 3.1 and rooted again, seems all 150 or so items are being backed up....yay!

I found this thread while trying to figure out if there is any way to backup BEFORE rooting.
I have a stock 3g Xoom with 3.1 I would like to root it, but my understanding is that it will be wiped, and then I will have to reinstall everything and reconfigure everything, as I now have it, and like it.
So, my question, and I think the question of the original poster, is whether there is a way to backup before rooting? Or is there a way to not loose everything I have now, when I root.
I have used Titanium Backup on my rooted Evo, and it is a great app. But, as was stated, it will only work once the device is rooted.
I've just started trying out custom roms and I've noticed while some roms such as CyanogenMod lets you restore all previously installed apps upon installation other ones doesn't. If I flash a rom which doesn't support it all my apps still stand as installed if I search for them in market on the computer however it's a pain to manually reinstall all apps so is there anyway to trigger something which reinstall all apps like CM do?
well, i don't know what PHONE you are using, but on my inspire 4g with a gingerbread rom, altho the rom doesn't do much with app reloads, just by signing into my google account my apps reappear on their own.

This will restore data as well - game progress, an app's settings, etc. The free version only allows one backup at a time (if you backup the app again, it overwrites the last backup) and you have to agree to the permissions of each app. In the paid version, you can set the max number of backups yourself and everything will install in the background. There's tons of other cool stuff the app can do, I suggest checking it out.

This is the way to go. Trust me on that. One more thing if you kind of like a certain rom but you just want to try others make sure you do a nandroid back up. This makes life a hell of a lot easier if you don't like rom boot back to recovery and restore your last back up. I nan once a week so I keep a fresh image cuz I am always adding and removing apps.

As far as my experience when (this afternoon), TI is the ONLY way to go (although, you'll want to root first).
A follow up question on this topic. I have TI Pro and made a backup of apps and data. After flashing an update ROM on my EVO, I could get most of the apps, but not all of them back. Actually, some apps would not even reinstall -- e.g. Twitter gave me some error about a shared library missing. Any ideas?
I bought the paid version of Titanium backup but during batch restore, I still have to press install/cancel and open/done for each app. Is that correct or did I miss changing a setting?

Not sure, I have never had to do this, and I have not changed any settings that I know of.
I am about to flash my first ROM on my Inspire. I did a NAND backup and copied all the contents of my sd card to my computer.
My question is if I transfer it back onto my sd card after flashing will it restore my apps and other data?

No. Apps need to be installed, not just copied (that's assuming that you're talking about apps on the SD card, and not on the phone's memory).
Do as most of the posts above suggest and do a backup using Titanium Backup. Then you can batch restore (with the paid version) or app-by-app restore (with the free version) after flashing your new ROM.
Titanium is excellent , however I find backups arent always compatible between roms. I sometimes get errors after a restore. For that reason I just sing into Market after flashing a new rom and let the apps re download.
TI Backup
I purchased the pro version, batch backed up all of my apps. Installed MikG on Evo 4g and now I can't access TI back up. I also did a nand back up. when I restore data nothing happens. Please help. I just want my apps back.

Two options.
1. Push your apps recorded in your android market library to your phone.
2. Use titanium backup.
Titanium backup is easier, but since you do a reset to make everything fresh, I would prefer the first option.
What you do is to go to android market library from your PC browser. It has all your apps listed. For each app, use the install button to push it to your phone. You need not wait between apps. Just push which ever app you need and they will automatically get downloaded and installed to your phone. For some reason, Google has kept the reinstall feature hidden. See this for details -

I don't know, google play used to reinstall my apps when I was on stock sony rom, but since I use Cyanogen now, it doesn't do it. I always keep checked option "keep backed up with bla bla", but it doesn't restore automatically :/

How to Backup App and Game data... For between flashing of Roms.... And i do it constantly...like every 3-4 days...thnx to techno advancements....and MIUI Builds...

titanium backup is nice. just don't like the fact that I have to "accept" and then install for a lot of the apps. oh well, better than downloading from the market... much quicker with TB

True.. just found this out by reading Titanium's FAQ online.
I'm going to try all apps+system backup and see how it restores to the new version of the same ROM. keeping my fingers crossed!

So, I'm going to install a new rom. I'm going back from JB to ICS. I was planning to wipe everything using TWRP. Meaning I'll wipe: system, cache, dalvik, factory reset, and android secure. Now I'm looking for a good backup app that can help me restore all of my apps and their saves after I install the new rom. I want to restore all of my games together with all of my save files. I've heard of Titanium and Go although I hear that titanium is only good if it is the paid version. Hopefully, you guys can provide me with a great backup app that is free. Thanks.

Backup and restore is in paid version only
But u can find the cracked version from google
Restoring system files after installing rom is not advisable
I recommend only to restore some files like games data files from titanium backup but not others

Yes, its good enough, unless you want more goodies like batch restoring of backed up apps, unlimited schedules, cloud syncing, restoring from nandroid backups etc. For that, you need to go PRO. Trust me, its worth the money.
P.S. Even if you're rooted, you can use Helium (previously Carbon) also. :good:

Titanuim back up is the best app to do that. The free version makes it longer to restore because it asks permission for every singal app it restores. so if you have a 100 apps, then you'd have to press "yes" 100 times and i found that so annoying. lol. It is worth every penny you pay for sure. And just like the other guys said, I don't recommend restoring the systems files at all, you will get a lot of FC's and error messages and it gets soooo annoying. Restore only the "missing apps". If you like the how you organized your touchwiz, back it up then restore it on the ROM.I have been using titanuim for too long and I know quite a bit about it. Just ask if you have anything question
For me Titanum Backup is also the best backup app for android
Titanium is so worth the money if you want to backup and restore frequently.
