[Q] hsdpa speeds but phone says utms - HTC Inspire 4G

i'm running ultimate droid and while the phone says 3G (UTMS)... when I run speed test, I'm getting 3.5M down 1M up... aka HSDPA speeds. what's going on here?
another question, when I drive through this one street where there is no hsdpa coverage my phone switches to utms but when I get back into the hsdpa coverage, it doesn't switch me back till hours later.
i'm using stock radio.

Network fixed???

My phone has rebooted 4 times since 5:30 eastern. And weather widget is bouncing around town to town. 3g has dropped to 1x once and I haven't left couch.
Signed dissatisfied Verizon customer
My 4G dropped out for the first time today (following the fix late last night Eastern time) at about 8:55 pm EDT. I'm in Maryland.
I'm seeing a situation with LTE where the handset can TX, but it gets no RX from the other end. If I force it back to EvDO (over eHRPD, using "CDMA Auto (PRL) in the Network app), I get a solid connection, no dropouts and fairly typical EvDO speeds.
After a good morning / afternoon on LTE, it seems the network (or the handset?!) is fouling up again. Anyone else?

I'm over in Northern VA. This morning i switched and then left it on CDMA + LTE/EvDO auto, and i even re-enabled eHRPD (for the first time in weeks) and got solid service all the way on my commute to work (Springfield to Dulles) streamed internet radio the entire time never dropped out once. After reading on here about people getting 4G back i figured i'd give it a spin. Then later on in the afternoon i started to see the dreaded "Full bars but no data signal" CONSTANTLY and its still going on, then i flip over to CDMA (auto PRL) and switch to Rev. A which ive been using for the most part of the last month or so and i get a FLAWLESS connection. It locks on to 3G and does NOT disappear EVER!
I really hope they get all this straightened out soon. I had decent hopes for the new radio, and i'm getting little result out of it. Until then, i'm perfectly content staying on CDMA (auto PRL), because it works all of the time.
Yes 4g is very sporadic to say the least. I may have a signal with 3 bars, but I'm still unable to use data. This happens like forty percent of the time. 3g s still stable, and I have tried both radios, with the same results.
I am not in a 4g area (yet, this summer though) but my 3G did come back late last night however, its been very touch and go today. Yesterday I thought it was because I had flashed some different kernels and I am a baby at this but then when I read about the outage I realized it actually wast me! I am guessing from the back and forth from 1X to 3G they are still working on it though. Hope its fixed soon. My wifi stinks at home!

somewhat off topic but not deserving of its own thread: ever since i bought this phone the day it came out it seems like 2 bars of lte means you might have a signal, ive rarely seen it with 1 bar on lte, and to get reliable data you need 3 or 4. fairly solid today though, in and around chicago.

I covered a lot of ground today: LA, Chicago, and Connecticut. All with solid 4g while I was in those places.
I'm in the Chicago suburbs and my 4G has been sketchy all day. I've got 4 bars but the speeds aren't up to par.
My 4G has been sporadic. Similar symptoms as others' posted here. 3 bars and no data connection.
M.
I'm in Baltimore as well and have had rock solid 4G all day.
I'm in Indianapolis, and while we don't quite have 4G I did notice something is up with 3G.
Under the menu>settings>about phone>network it shows: CDMA + EVDO Rev A.
Even though eHRPD is enabled.
So I'm still getting neutered 3G (no data+voice simul).
They must still be up to something.
Yeah I switched to eHRPD earlier in day yesterday and was working fine til the evening. I am not in 4g area but fairly close to one, but haven't seen 4g speeds yet. But back on Rev A now.
I just got a "network connection reset by peer" error so must be having some connectivity issues.

Middle Tennessee here,
While at work, I have had in the past a very stable 4G connection. And when I commute back to my home I am outside the range of the nearest 4G market but I've always bounced to the 3G network under the defaulted eHRPD settings with some latency of course. I have had my device since launch and I am running jcase's original custom ruu for root/s-off which has been running just fine.
Since the outage while at my home I am constantly transitioning between 3G and 1X with the occasional dreaded "all bars" and no network connection but if I reboot my device I have a 3G service restored...
Same goes for the transition back from 3G to 4G....commuting back to work, I know I should be acquiring the 4G network while coming to work and the best I get is the 3G network again all while my device is set for the eHRPD modem setting. Now if I reboot my device while in the known 4G market area I get my 4G back....
Still looks borked to me even if the Big Red Boys say that their service is back up....
My phone was switching betwen 4G and 1X and never went to 3G at all. I cannled Verizon and they said that the handoff from 4G to 3G was turned off due to the outage. Apparently the outage had something to do with switching between networks.
He had me do a battery pull which did bring 3G back (restart and airplane mode hadn't helped me). He did say I might get stuck again probably in 1X and to try airplane mode then.
I guess they are still working out issues.
I live in the middle of TN and I was pleased to see my 4G come back today. Just in time, too. I was able to stream the draft almost flawlessly while at work.

[Q] CDMA Data

I just switched to VZW, and I'm somewhat confused: should I be able to get data over CDMA? EvDO is 3G, are my options 3G, 4G, or bust? GSM has GPRS, which will faithfully deliver me data nearly wherever I am.
I don't know whether my VZW phone is simply mis-configured, or whether EV-DO is required for data access.
evdo rev a is verizon and sprints 3g
Is there anything slower than evdo on Verizon?
FFS one of you has got to bleeding know.
in some rare areas there might be evdo rev 0 witch is a tad bit slower.
1x which is national acesss and will be slower than dial up...
i almost never saw a "1x" / 1xEV-DO / cdma2000 icon on my phone during this trip. when i very rarely did see some icon on screen, it was usually 3G.
would you expect this on a somewhat-off-the-path road trip? i often had 5 bars, but still no data service; that seemed extremely odd to me coming from AT&T.
cdma has a 1x, it's like a gprs in gms
thanks for the help all. seems clear enough now.
now if only 1X had the availability/saturation of gprs, which seemed available basically everywhere.

question about cell connection

ok so just a question, because i think i understand what's happening
my phone will switch between umts, hspa and hspa+ a lot
it seems like whenever the phone is idle it sits on hspa. but when i do something requiring data(open up facebook, for example) it will switch to umts and then switch to hspa+
is that just because when switching from hspa to hspa+ it falls back onto umts before switching over to hspa+(which youre probably always on underneath the hspa(+) connection)?

Nexus 5 poor signal strength on Ting...

Hello,
I have been seeing horrible quality of network service in my area on Ting. I have a white 32GB Nexus 5. I work in a three story building that seems to turn my phone into Digital roaming/CDMA 1xRTT network only going outside I barely get 3G. I have mapped it out and see more service in the area where people on Sprint are getting 4G LTE in the area or WIMAX. I was wondering if anyone on Ting/Sprint has the same issue.
I do see 3G on my commute and downtown Sacramento, California where I should see 4G LTE I am barely getting 3G 2 to 3 bars. Most of my day at work in Folsom, California area is all 1xRTT 2G or Roaming when inside my office, and lower end 3G outside. I have two 3G/WIMAX towers next to my area at work in Folsom and I should be getting some 3G.
I went through the cell network code to enable band 26, and band 41 and changed priorities on the band from 1 to 0 and individually tested each band in my area. band 41 seems to be the best and the others are pretty bad. Band 41 gets me -100 dBm, 99asu, 950ms ping on CDMA 1xRTT.
I now have it back to all priority 1 (Bands: 25/26/41) Band 26 and 41 enabled. I have updated my Profile and PRL multiple times.
I am running 4.4.2 with Xposed Framework version 1.5, with Franco kernel r33. I did see Franco kernel r34 and will probably flash the update ASAP to see if it works any better. I am not using any power save settings for cell network quality. I am also using a Spiegen slim-armor case and tried to see if it was interfering with signal strength, it wasn't.
So my question comes down to has anybody known a fix for getting solid 3G in an area where I should be seeing some LTE and atleast full strength 3G. I am barely seeing 2G most of the time. I am just crossing my finger it isn't an antenna issue with the phone itself.
Any help, tips, or tricks would be greatly appreciated!!!

Go to about phone and check your Baseband version, if your modem driver is older you may want to upgrade it. Or if it is newer, potentially a downgrade has shown better performance as well. All depends.
Read this thread thoroughly and make sure you do a backup before doing anything and see if this helps.

Look for the modem thread (didn't see you post it so if you did, sorry), and try flashing the .15 radio. That seems to be the best. The stock 4.4.2 radio (.21 or .23 can't remember) sucks. I could be halfway between towers and drop to 3g and not get LTE at all. The .15 holds LTE as long as there is really an LTE signal just fine.
i just read that ting uses sprints network. that might be the issue there, as sprint isnt known to have great coverage nor great data speeds.

Sacramento is entirely legacy lucent equipment. Basically **** sucks and won't get better anytime soon till they cluster launch the area. They won't fire up anything (3g / 800 mhz / 4G LTE) until they cluster launch. They can't cluster launch the area until all 200 or so sites are fully upgraded which is a ways off.
B41 is running of old Clearwire sites for now and should be mostly done by around may but you cannot connect to them unless you force LTE only mode and do the PRL update work around (i.e. PRL update every time you reboot the radio) and even then it leaves much to be desired.
So your option is to stick it out on the ****ty legacy network or find another provider that suits your needs. ATT is running 5 mhz on LTE 700 B, Tmobile has a 10x10 FDD-LTE network on AWS that is spotty as **** in around south sac area and drops to Edge when you go indoors which is probably a no go for you.
Probably the best option for you is an ATT MVNO considering your needs are inside a building.
-- Though if you do stick it out Sprint has quite an amazing portfolio in the Sacramento area with full access to eSMR 800 (5x5 mhz FDD-LTE band 26) + eSMR 800 1xAdvance, 20 mhz of PCS A-F + the 10mhz of PCS G (5x5mhz FDD-LTE Band 25) along with 55mhz of BRS (2500) + innumerable EBS (2600). Right now they're running B41 on EARFCN 40978 which is about 2630mhz or smack dab in the EBS block.
Tmobiles is here at 40mhz of AWS and ~30 mhz of PCS + the 700A later this year. They run 10x10 for FDD-LTE Band 4 and DC-HSPA+ on the other 20 mhz of AWS. They run a single PCS 5 mhz WCDMA 3G carrier and the rest of the PCS is GSM. Their 700A Band 12 will be limited to about 3x3mhz FDD-LTE when they deploy later.
ATT has quite a mishmash of spectrum. 12 mhz of 700B Band 17 (5x5 mhz FDD-LTE), 700D block Band 29 which is unpaired and unusable, the Cell 850 A block, 10mhz of AWS good for 5x5 FDD-LTE on Band 4, and 20 mhz of PCS A + D which is split for numerous WCDMA 3G + GSM carriers. So they're probably going to run AWS LTE and aggregate it with their 700B block LTE and then moving onto refarming PCS carriers later. IE -a nightmare.
Take your poison.
I'm not in your area, but Ting has been swell for me in Minnesota. Sprint's coverage map shows NO LTE in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis & St. Paul, though it exists well to the west in rural MN. Imagine my surprise to get it at my home in Hopkins, at least 75 miles away from Sprint's nearest report of coverage. Phone service is unchanged from when I was a Sprint customer.
SomeTing wong
Sent from my Nexus 5
Yes som ting is wong
Firstly it looks like when you got your service you only provided them the ESN number which they can provide you 3G and 1X
however you need a sprint 4G lte sim to actually get LTE along with 3G and 1X ask ting about it.

[Q] Sprint - can't connect to 3G? LTE only.

I have the opposite of the LTE dropping problem I see most people have. I can't get 3G, but my LTE works fine (well, once it spazzed out after a PRL update and would only do 0.5mbs on LTE). At work, where I know I can't get LTE, but could get 3G with my Note 2 (and we even have a repeater), I can't get data. If I go to the window where I can barely get LTE and reset my antenna, it'll get LTE, and when I walk away it'll flash 3G for a second and go out. I still get several bars and can talk and text fine. Everyone else with 3G is fine. After thinking about it I realized that in the month I've had the phone I've NEVER been able to connect to 3G in places where I used to be able to. It's LTE or nothing. I'd be more than happy with 3G if the alternative is to read a book. Could this be a SIM card issue? Hardware? Firmware? It's annoying the hell out of me, I work 10 hour shifts at night, I need my data.
Just a follow up, I downloaded a network signal info app and it shows me having a solid 40% signal. Net type: will alternate between EHRPD, EVDO A, 1xRTT, and Unknown. Data state: will alternate between "Setting up data connection" and "no activity". It seems like it's looking for a connection but won't connect. I know the signal is there. The only time I can get the 3G logo to light up is right after going out of LTE range, it'll light up 3G for a few seconds and then go out. My coworkers with Sprint have confirmed the new repeaters we have are working, and I've confirmed it won't hook up to 3G at home like my old phone.
