Chicagoland TB owners: what are your 4G speeds? - Thunderbolt General

I'm averaging about 6 mbps down and 4 mbps up. Speedtest is using the Aurora server.
Is this considered "slow" for 4G?

I am working up in Deerfield today, DL of 13.07 and upload of 7.6 mbs. I live in south suburbs and average between 8 & 12 up, and 6-8 down.

I'm in the far north suburbs and I average 22 down and close to 6 up

WTF? 22 down is nuts. I need to move up there. I'm in Wheaton.

my speed varies alot depending on where I am at. I have seen my up speed as high as 40(yes that was an upload speed) and down 25. But I tend to average around 5 down and 2-3 up

I used to get around 15-22 down and 5-10 up every time. Now I average about 5-6 down and 3-4 up. :/ I'm in mchenry area. I miss those super fast speeds.
Thunderbolt Rooted!

Schaumburg.
Used to be 20/12. Now I'm @ 5/4. Went to the VZW store and ran speedtest side by side with their demo. Demo unit was pulling 3 to 4x the speeds that my phone was just inches away.

That's odd. Did you show them?

im in northfield right now for work in a basement office and using speedtest.net app got 130ms ping, 5Mbps down and 4Mbps up using an aurora server. switched to the chicago server and got 32.99Mbps down and 5.93Mbps up with a 102ms ping! ill try at home in the city this evening.

Yes, they directed me to their tech who had no idea. His personal bolt was running at the same speeds mine was.

I tried the Chicago server as well and got 9 mbps down and about 6 mbps up.
I'm visiting my girlfriend in the city this weekend. I'm curious what my speeds will be like there.

When I ran my test, both phones were attached to Aurora's test server (because I know someone's going to ask) and I ran the test about 15 times to make sure.

I have my suspicions about the speedtest app, even after the recent fix. Those getting slower speeds, open a browser with UserAgent switching, switch to desktop UA, and go to the speedtest.net website. I always get much higher results that way, which seem to be consistent with the results I get when tethered to a laptop. I'm usually pulling between 10-20 down, 1-4 up on the Northside. It's a very welcome upgrade from WiMax.
btw those thinking they got 40 Mbps upstream a while back, that was the speedtest app giving bogus results. Many of us thought we got those speeds, but nobody really did. The developer of the app was the first to say so.

The chicago server tests much faster than the aurora server.

speedtest.net location 3 states away

I ran a bandwidth test using tethering and speedtest.net told me I was located in Indiana but I'm in Pennsylvania!
The bandwidth test was horrible when speedtest.net auto chose closest server(which was chicago) but when I choose State College, Pennsylvania it was fine.
On my droid x, everytime I ran the test it said I was located in Ohio close to Pennsylvania, last time was maybe a month ago.
Why would it be that far off on the Thunderbolt?
These test were all on 3g btw

I'm curious about this too. I'm in south florida and it keeps picking a server in Kentucky. The only way that i've found to get a server in Florida is to run a speed test on wifi and then switch to 4g after it has picked up a server that is actually nearby.

It's always given me kansas. 3g and 4g. Im in NC. So I'm sure it's on VZW's end.
i am in tampa,fl and it gives me witchita, KS
Do you guys remember the server that was used on your old phones

Make sure your GPS is on and you have a solid fix. You should be able to change to any server you want.
When I was on sprint, and running CM7, if I went into the browser while I was on 4G, and went to speedtest.net, it would show me as being in the united kingdom.
I'm not sure if this makes any difference but, I ran Speednet test on both of my phones:
Thunderbolt..... Not rooted yet.....lol
Incredible.......... rooted.
I'm right outside Philly...
On the Thunderbolt I could pick Philadelphia, New York, etc. The results were great.....
On the Incredible...... It's always given me Kansas and the results were crap.
Anyone experience this?

Same here. Always KS but I scroll down and select ashville
Ok here it goes.
Just Rooted my Thunderbolt and now Philadelphia Server is a 150miles away; So there's a difference after you root your phone.
In Pittsburgh pa and got state college pa which is the closest of all servers. I am rooted.

Its no secret speedtest.net is not to be trusted. I ran 4 test from my computer and it varies from 22Mbps to 100Mbps...anyone stateside knows 100 is currently out of the question...just sayin

Again people, make sure your GPS is on and you have GPS fix before you run the test. Also allow standalone GPS in your Location settings. It's common sense.

Speedtest problems with android apps

Um. So I've used the speedtest apps for awhile and the results are pretty garbage. I've found the best Speedtests to run are the same ones I use for my pc.
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest
The flash on this site seems to run just fine on the evo. I ran a speedtest to Atlanta with the app and 4g on. I got 1.9 mbps. I ran the Speakeasy website and got 6.9 mbps.
Same when I run the Speedtests from my isp. Better through the browser.
For the people with flash on your phones can you compare your results with the speedtest app and the Speakeasy one. Or any browser based test.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I usually test while driving and here in the S F area average 3-3.5 download on 3g I guess it depends where you are
But what are your results when you use a speedtest app vs a speedtest website.

Terrible 4G speed on GB leak

Anyone experiencing horribly slow 4G speeds? I did a speed test both online and through the app and no difference. I'm going to be going back to bamf soon if it doesn't get any better.

Yeah, it's pretty bad but it isn't the end of the world. My normal dl of 20mbs has fallen to 3-5mbs but my upload is still at 4mbs.
Eh I guess I got spoiled. I restored a backup because of the slow speeds.

So the radio is worse; not better?
Holding off myself.
Bamf rocks, But I'm sure they will work it in.
Sorry to hear about the wasted time you guys had to put in.
7-10 down, 2-4 up.
on GB leak
2.5 down when I'm usually dl' ing 15...tho when I go to dl stuff its def not sure slow at all
I guess if you are tethering it sucks, but I use my phone as a phone, 5mb is more than enough for me to whatever Want. what can you do on a phone with 15mb that you cant do with 4 or 5, seriously? I just tested mine on speakeasy.net and I got 7-9 down and 2-3 up.
Are you guys testing your speed using the speedtest app or with speedtest.net through your phone's browser? I know the app has some issues with accuracy.

I use speedtest app but I dont think the latest version has issues with accuracy. I usually get 15 down 5 up until I installed GB last night and all of my speedtests dropped down to 3 down and 3 up.

About the same for me. Tapatalk doesn't load as fast either. Love the gb features and the instant Gps lock but I'm a speed junkie.
Well this is weird, when I check the speed from the phone I average 3 down 3 up but when I tether my laptop I consistently get this: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1300046545.png
speedtest app still has issues, sometimes. I know you dont have to believe me, but I always get better results at speakeasy.net than I do with speedtest app. The app still sucks and constantly gives communication errors.
I was getting 4-5 mbps down on speedtest app and 12 down on speakeasy.net's speedtest webpage on this ROM. I think it all depends on where you test from.

They're talking about the Gingerbread leak. Looks like you're using the cm7 build and also have a different baseband. I did notice speeds of only 2-3Mbps when I got it briefly yesterday here in Raleigh, NC but just attributed that to either the speedtest app being flaky or them not having the network fully up. Didn't get a chance to run a browser based test before it went back off.
Ya the app is flake I got 14 mb down on a browser spedtest on the leak

4 Down and 1.5 Up here in Tampa... It blows donkey nuts.. MR2 and MR2.5 radios, no difference except that MR2 gets much better signals

My record is 21.77 MBPS, maybe 20 miles from my current location, I've experienced some really good service in San Francisco, but didn't run a speed test (two days ago).
Currently running Bamf Stripped 1.8 with Stock Radio.

It usually not this bad here. I usually get between 20 and 30 mbps Here. Just been Really slow for me and even when I do get 4g it usually hangs with the upload arrow lit up and I have to switch to 3g to get any data at all.
And FWIW, my buddy with a charge just did a speed test and was getting 16 down/4up at work while I am stuck on crappy 3g signal.

Expected average data speed?

So I was wondering speeds should I be expecting with the infuse in an average ATT HSDPA network
I am averaging 1.4 -1.7 Mbps, with highest 2.52 Mbps
Normal?
Sorry if this in another thread, I didn't see one.

I does depend on where you are and what is avail. I asked the very same question the other day and really no one had much to say except try different modems. I live in a small town in Northern CA. and average 1.6mbps but have seen 4.00 a cpl times. I am on my 5th modem to test...some are horrible for me but others say it is fantastic. Theere is a super thread for infuse...look there...they are all posted in CWM flashable zips.
